>tfw your club gets relegated based on not getting enough engagement on TikTok

Instead of traditional promotion and relegation, here are the grading criteria for UK (basically Norf England and the best two French) Rugby League teams:

>Fandom (5 points): Includes match attendance, TV viewership, social media following, and website visits.
>On-field Performance (5 points): Assessed on league position over the past three years with bonus points for winning the Grand Final and Challenge Cup Final.
>Finance (4.5 points): Assessed on profitability, financial stability, and a diversification of revenue streams.
>Stadium (3 points): Stadium and other facilities would be assessed.
>Community (2.5 points): Assessed fanbase vs fanbase potential, as well as assessing community and charity work.

15 points is needed for Grade A status, while 7.5 is needed for Grade B

Grade A teams are guaranteed a place in the top-tier Super League and CANNOT be relegated, then the rest of Super League is made up of the best Grade B teams but they CAN be relegated.

So the Championship is made up of the rest of the Grade B teams and Grade C, but even winning it convincingly like London Broncos, the only team from the entire south-east, isn't a guarantee your grade will go up enough to replace one of the Grade B teams in the Super League.

What happened with Halifax RLFC?

Rugby League is like a bizarre alternative version of Rugby Union. The main problem with this sport is that there is no real International Dimension to the sport.

Even Hurling and Gaelic Football are more appealing without the latter.

The issue with rugby league is that they're clearly desperate to get people watching the game, but there are too many old-timers who take the approach of 'if you're not already a fan, you don't deserve to be'. Look at the decision to schedule the Grand Final for the same time as an England football game. It's lunacy, and the BBC aren't going to keep funding it

Rugby union and rugby league need to just bury the hatchet and combine into one code. its too confusing for 99 percent of people that there are 2 sports named rugby and theyre almost identical. especially because neither of them have enough decent teams to make a full league right now
>>
>>158110765
This a league brain take, literally no one thinks of league when they hear about rugby

This is to fix the mistakes made when they went to Super League. The fact that London Broncos are ranked so low is very telling that simply looking at a potential market for expansion predominantly based on population doesn’t work, so you have a situation where the biggest London club is smaller than some almost village that nobody south of Derbyshire has ever heard about.
Ideally this criteria would be set further down the pyramid.
And another thing is the absolute failure of English rugby league football to keep the Toronto Wolfpack in the system, an actual growing club in an expansion market, just left on the vine

I always had the vague inkling that rugby league was a simplified faster flowing version of rugby without the incessant scrums and bollox. Then I did a bit of research and turns out they have even more man-hugging and NFL-style down possession rule shite? And you're not allowed to contest the ball when someone goes down?

Rugby League split of from Union because working class northerners couldn't afford to take time off work to play matches unlike southerners, so argued they needed to professionalise so they could make money off playing. southerners said no to professionalism, so they split. southerners played Union, northerners League. of course, Union has pro leagues now so it was a pointless split in the end

The games are kind of hard to get in the US. The timing of the league is good. I need something to watch after NFL. I don't know how your country can support so many teams with the population. Anyways, three changes I would like to see. Better TV deal in the US, because the game times are much better than NRL. Make multiple rugby league video games. I would not do an exclusive license. Lastly, do some international games in Mexico.

I would suggest a rule change or two but it would not be taken well. (I would like a free six again after getting past the halfway or your 40m line, would have to test. Also, field goals but only worth one point). I love how fan friendly the sport is compared to Union. Its somewhat hard to find NRL and Super League sports content. There is not a million podcasts I could find like there are for more popular sports. We don't really have any rugby league stuff over here, its all union. There are a few adult clubs but that's it.

Rugby league feels like easy sell from a spectator standpoint. The players are all fit and lean, and there is not very many injuries a game despite all the contact.
>>
>>158114342
all I'd change is get rid of the metric shit. English sport, use ENGLISH units when playing it. even soccer has the common decency to measure the pitch and nets and ball in feet and inches.
>>
>>158114342
i wonder why america doesnt just get a bunch of running backs that arent quite good enough to make the nfl anymore, like either washed up formerly good players or practice squad level and make a rugby league team. i wonder how they would do compared to pro rugby league teams if you trained them
>>
>>158114124
Union only allowed professionalism 110 years after schism
>>
its over, /rug/..
>>
I also do not like teams getting a full six-again, but I understand why it happens. To make the game work well in the US, we would probably have to switch to 9, 11, or 13 players because of the field size. I don't know why they don't do that when they do the rugby league Vegas games.

The other game is okay, but it has almost as much stoppages as an NFL game, they just keep the clock running. Also, the players seem to be bandaged up more. It really does not feel safe to watch in a strange way. It feels way to easy to eat a random knee to the head and get fucked up, not really because of a hard hit or anything. Just some rugby shit.
>>
>>158115909
Usa is a union country, nfl has 11 minutes of ball in play in three hour broadcast against 40 minutes of ball in play a 95 minutes game, plus scrum, conversions and line outs are cool to see even if they dont count as live plays
>>
>>158116061
idk scrum stuff kind of put me off watching, scrums would be cool if they didnt spend minutes to set up only to collapse and then they re do them. they need to just let them rock and if they collapse to bad, or just call a foul vs whoever made it collapse and give the other team the ball
>>
>>158116108
and by give them the ball i dont mean give them the ball then have another fucking scrum i mean they just get the ball and thats that
>>
>>158116108
The rules around the scrum are a shit show yes, did you know only france top14 enforces the law where you have to feed the ball straight in the scrum, everywhere else the scrumhalf just throws it to their team
With just a couple changes in the rules you can fix the scrum, a good one would be a penalty from a scrum cant be another scrum
>>
>>158116061
American football diverged from rugby before the league/union split happened, is why. Union rules predate League rules. American football became its own thing when rugby was still primarily a university leisure activity.

>>158116108
not that different in spirit from how American football works. there's no "scrum" for possession every play, instead we developed a system where we assume one side "wins" the scrum every four plays so they get four attempts to move the ball up the field before the other team "wins" the scrum and possession. so gameplay picks up just as the ball gets hiked out of the scrum by the "winning" team.
>>
>>158116770
then make me a team of NFL players that would win a rugby league championship
>>
>>158116788
I think the US men's national rugby team is comprised of mostly college football guys who didn't get picked up by the NFL or CFL. Rugby world cup happens during the middle of the American football regular season no NFL team is gonna risk sending some of their guys over to play in some niche sport nobody in the States cares about. same reason you rarely see big NHL talent in the IIHC world cup.
I dunno about the Canadian squad, maybe there are some CFL guys over there. CFL is a summer league, so they might be able to do it
>>
>>158116770
I meant that union is bigger than league in the usa obviously being niche, kennedy played rugby
And the scrum you got it wrong its not for possesion after a tackle, that would be the ruck, scrums happen after a penalty or knock on (dropping the ball foward)

The scrimmage line is based on the scrum, but in game it would be closer to a ruck
>>
>>158116926
as far as American football is concerned, any play that doesn't make it to first down is considered an "incomplete play". in rugby terms, it would be like resetting after a penalty. it's also why the ball is considered dead on a forward pass that doesn't connect; because as far as the rules are concerned the play doesn't actually start and the ball isn't live until the catch is made. think of it like the ball warping out of the scrum and into the hands of a players halfway up the field the instant the whistle is blown.
>>
>>158114510
100, not 110.

>>158115909
Six agains are a blight on league.
>>
Alright, going to have a better read.

>>158114342
>field goals
Define field goal. Because it cam mean very different things depending on the context. In rugby league (especially NRL), it means a drop goal. Historically, it was a method of scoring where you kicked a loose ball (e.g. from a grubber kick) past the posts, a scoring method that has long been abolished. And I'm sure you already know what it means in the NFL.

>I love how fan friendly the sport is compared to Union.
Might have been true pre-1995. This isn't remotely close to true anymore.

>The players are all fit and lean
For what it's worth, rugby union still sells itself as, a sport for all shapes and sizes. Rugby league has lost that.

>and there is not very many injuries a game despite all the contact.
I'm not that sure about that, but okay… concussions in particular are a serious concern in pretty much every football code.

>>158115909
>Also, the players seem to be bandaged up more. It really does not feel safe to watch in a strange way.
I've heard that the bandages also act as some weird makeshift protection. Or that it's simply there to stop yourself from bleeding all over, since cuts and scrapes and the like are common. Playing through injuries is also common in both codes, but bandages would be useless against the actually serious injuries like concussions.

>>158116108
>>158116114
Yeah, I'll give that the way union scrums are refereed really need fixing. But World Rugby hasn't bothered to fix that. It really should.
>>
>>158117148
Okay disregard the fan friendly part, you meant the sport itself not the community.
