When you apply for a licence in Australia it goes in stages.

First is the [L]earner plate. You can't drive without a fully licenced driver/supervisor next to you and need to keep a logbook of your hours. You stay on this for 6-12 months, depending on age.

Then you get the [P]rovisional 1 plate. You can drive by yourself but have stricter limits. Only one passenger, lower speed limits, absolutely no alcohol, and curfews. Lasts for 1 year.

Then you get the [P]rovisional 2 plate (doesn't need to be displayed). Passenger limits, lower speed limits and curfews are lifted. Lasts for 2 years.

Or something like that.

Bunch of battles, lots of positions shifting, the soft tyres are blistering bad, the track melted in parts, brakes are snapping or welding themselves, and that's about it cause most are playing a conservative strat so last handful of laps will probably have a bunch churning through everything the last of their reserves.

People were complaining about BoP all season long and they were making jokes about how the BoP became good once Cadillac sealed the championship.
There was also the funny quote from the recent Aston Martin interview: https://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/aston-martin-valkyrie-set-to-use-at-least-two-jokers/

>the BoP became good once Cadillac sealed the championship.
The 31 Cadillac sealed the championship by qualifying well and taking the green flag at Petit. The Aston was generally getting the best BoP after the first few races in both WEC and IMSA... before they stopped publishing the data. Hard to say what it is now, of course, but they were leading until they made a pit right before a FCY and even then, they were alright until they murdered the 31 Cadillac.
>>
The Valkyrie in IMSA will continue to be irrelevant as long as De Angelis is in the car, especially as the closing driver.

He says he won't be racing at Monte Carlo but I truly hope he does at least one event this year. Hopefully we get another Seb vs Seb battle.

As for the car, yeah it looks like a WRC2 car in terms of speed. Funny how much the new WRC regs mirror Hypercar/LMDh in SportsCars 5 years ago. It was so bleak back then, especially when people saw that the new top class cars were literally slower than LMP2s (which they still are in some cases btw). It obviously turned out OK for SportsCars, so who knows.
>>
>>158155679
For now just be happy we get what we get from auto makers, they're in their own self imposed burst bubble after the EV one popped. So just getting teams back in under cost controlled rules is better then what WEC was when it was just Toyota running.

>>158154923
I think Aston would have a better year on paper if not for self mistakes, i remember a couple races where they had top 5 if not podium pace then got stupid penalties.

>I think Aston would have a better year on paper if not for self mistakes
Absolutely. IMSA is definitely well into the territory of "the small things matter." A dropped lug nut or flat spotted a tire can cost a team a championship. It's why Penske demands that the car, the garage and even the mechanics be spotless on top of perfectly organized ans prepared. Even then, they don't always win.
The Heart of Racing is a really good team, but they just don't have the budget and leadership to hire, coordinate and endlessly drill a zero mistakes team. It's a shame because they clearly have the coolest sports prototype since... IDK, the Shadow DN4?

https://www.thestint.com/geely-will-not-take-over-alpines-hypercar-programme/
>Alas, according to our information, the employees were reportedly informed a few days ago. Geely will not take over the operation currently competing under the Alpine banner. A programme that deserved a better fate.
>But at this stage of the year, finding a manufacturer willing and able to take over the programme in time for 2027 would be close to a miracle.
>Therein lies the paradox. Signatech knows the car and the championship, and already has the people and infrastructure required to continue competing in Hypercar. The A424 exists, it races and it performs. All that is missing is a manufacturer willing to put its badge on the nose.
>Geely was supposed to be that manufacturer. It will not be. Barring a highly unlikely turnaround, the Chinese group’s decision brings Signatech ever closer to the end of its Hypercar adventure. And the A424 ever closer to its final race.

Touring Car fans, the FIA has set up a survey for you.

>Alan Gow, FIA Touring Car Commission President, said: "The FIA is seeking the opinions of touring car fans as it begins to consider what the next generation of FIA Touring Cars should look like. Their input will help ensure that future cars remain relevant and popular. Most importantly, they must maintain or even increase the close and exciting battles that are the hallmark of great touring car racing, while keeping a strict eye on cost control."

>Marek Nawarecki, FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director, said: "The future of touring car racing should be shaped not only by officials, manufacturers and teams, but also by the people who fill grandstands, watch broadcasts and follow the sport around the world. As the regulator of the sport, the FIA wants to hear directly from those fans. This survey gives them a unique opportunity to help shape the future of this spectacular form of racing."

The questions are hard, I can't really choose.
What do we even make of Touring Car racing at its current state? TCR exists and it's OK but clearly not doing too great, BTCC seems to be hanging on and I guess the other alternative is the Aussie cars that don't interest me very much.
I am conflicted because I just want something cheap. In an era where GT3 has become too expensive to get into and GT4 isn't too far behind, I believe we need something more entry-level cost-wise. Road-relevant cars would be cool, however how can you really have that nowadays when companies won't even be available to sell ICE cars in <10 years? Too conflicted.
>>
>>158181635
This is a weird survey as they lump together TCR with aussie supercars, stock car brazil and turismo carretera when they're very different. Maybe they're thinking about joining them? I don't get it.
>>
>>158181736
I think they're trying to gauge if people even want "slow" touring cars anymore or if they should make something closer to Aussie/Brazil in terms of speed to potentially replace TCR.
>>
>>158181755
I guess that makes sense when thinking about turning TCR into a common platform series like Rally1, which would kill the production car aspect, but it would be a cheaper entry for manufacturers. The more I think about it, I realize it's a very hard problem to solve. Probably the reason for this survey.
>>
>>158181850
Yeah, it's too difficult. I'm at a point where I just want to have good racing for as long as I can, I've given up on road-relevance and us getting cool road cars again.
I actually like TCR and I really like seeing them in multi-class races, I just wish we could go back to the prime WTCC days. Watching those and later driving them in Race07 was a lot of fun.

Agree 100%
NGTC (BTCC regs) are kinda like that already. Off the shelf subframes, drivelines, electrics etc you can bolt onto different bodyshells.
Some other anon recently hit the nail on the head imho when he said Rally1 could be seen as an attempt at replicating the Hypercar success to a different discipline. I hope they're trying something like that for touring cars as well
TCR already made changes BTW, as of 2026 you can run 3 door bodies and engines up to 2,5l

I filled out the survey yesterday and imho one of the big things to "fix" with touring cars is the overly complicated sporting regulations
>success ballast on top of BOP
>different tire compounds for selected rounds unless you're in the 3 and many more rules I haven't picked up on despite watching it for years
>BOOST but it's entirely different in quali races
>reverse grids
>reverse grids with a random draw
>mandatory tire changes every 15 minutes
>the WTCR quali system. Shit was so retarded the teams themselves kept getting things wrong
I don't mind any of these please but no more than 1 or 2

For me the great draw is having full on pro drivers doing short races in cars with limited pace and grip. Mix in some younger drivers or local heroes thanks to a common ruleset with reasonable cost
that's just my 2 cents I guess

V8 Supercars are more leaning towards GT3 regs with the current generation of cars and obviously Camaro, Mustang and Supra are not comparable to typical touring cars like TCR or BTCC
>>
>>158181635
Thanks for posting. I gave them a ton of feedback. I think the 2 best touring car series are BTCC and Supercars. While I'd love to have a road chassis based series, I just don't think enough manufacturers are making cars that could compete in a series like that. A slightly larger BTCC style module chassis with road cars silhouette body work is about the best compromise I can think of. I also took the time to tell them no one likes hybrids.

I think you're pretty well on target with all of that. Especially the part about the pro drivers. It would be pretty cool to have TC guys getting big and sought after like the SVG, Dixon and Power.
I like BTCC and Supercars because the competition is so close based mostly on the overall technical regulations, which is to say, it's done correctly before the season starts instead of BOP gayness every single race. I like both the purity of Supercars and the gimmicks in BTCC (boost and tire allocation strategies) but reverse grid draw is dumb. I also like how they really went out of the way to make them look like road cars. I really like Stockcars Brazil and TC, but that is one place where they are lacking. I'm just glad the Brazilians went back to the LS and I absolutely love that TC uses the Jeep I6, not that I think the FIA should adopt either of those as a single engine type.

I did the survey, it was interesting. The only thing I found odd was mixing categories like the Stock Car Pro Series and V8 Supercars in a question about Touring Cars. I really like those categories, but they're very different in concept compared to TCR/BTCC/TC2000. The Stock Car Pro Series is more like NASCAR in its conception, and Supercars leans more towards the GT3 concept.

Intentionally running 30th in every race you enter out of sheer half assery is an interesting OEM marketing strategy.

Haven't posted too much this season, but I figured I'd let my /msg/ bros how the autistic vintage motorcycle racing season went.

This weekend was Barber Vintage Festival, final races of the season and one of the coolest events on the planet. I came in with 8k points, championship leader had 9400. Saturday had hurricane cast off storms and the bike had some issues, I only made it half the laps but it was enough for third with how many people didn't race in the rain.

Sunday morning the track was drying, me and the points leader battled back and forth the entire race. There were at least 5 overtakes back and forth in 8 laps, I lost the rear at least twice and saved it. Got to watch him almost eat it on the fastest corner of the track from maybe a bike length back. On the last corner of the last lap I made a move up the inside and got him by two tenths across the stripe. First place, 9700 points on the season, and my first ever national championship.

It was an awesome weekend, I even got my poster of Kenny Roberts Sr. signed by the man himself. If anyone ever gets a chance to go to the festival (especially when there's no hurricane) I cannot recommend it enough.

the new kit looks god
but this might be the first rule chamge since the early 90s, that Ford does not win the first rally with the new reg cars. They did it in 97, 2006, 2012, 2017 and 2022

Is motocross of nations the only motorsport with national teams? Could motorsports be added to the olimpics? Maybe a karting event? They got horses so why not motorsports

What if we did a motogp one? That would go hard, obviously spain and italy would dominate but still

Posting here cause as a thread it got 0 replies

good afternoon, frens. help me understand super gt:
do manufacturers tend to support more their "works" teams or do they support them equally? for instance, does nissan equally support nismo and impul (or kondo, etc) or they're always favoring (even if a little bit) nismo instead of every other team using nissan cars?

Admittedly running tcr for 1-2 seasons as the top level was a temporary solution by FIA until they figure out the next ruleset for wtcc but they never got to it even though they promised it when WTCC originally folded with the failed TC1-TC2 cars.

I think EuroV8/Superstars or the australian Supercars series would be something to go by as the top level. All my respect for Tarquini's abilities, but him being still in the front over 50, let alone won his final world championship at 56 meant that TCR is simply not challenging enough.
On the other hand touring cars is more similar to rallying in a sense how much privateer and amateur operations matter. For the world championship a 2 tier like wrc1-2 would be an interesting setup, with tcr being the "WTCC2" and the more challenging cars the WTCC1 and running multi class races

Also btw anything can be the new ruleset if the new promoter will be still fucking the same. Eurosport events and its renamed iterations drove already 3 touring car championships into the ground and if they still get to handle the new one,it will die again. Fortunately it seems FIA is realising the issues with promoters in other championships

The olympics wants "fair" competitions which are quite hard to do with motorsports.
Motorsports inherently favor whoever qualifies higher and being faster doesn't necessarily come from higher levels of athleticism, and that's assuming all the cars/bikes (with driver) weigh the same.
>>
>>158192233
also there is the truth that a lot of people can't really handle, that even in a spec series, the car and tech will be still a very big factor in the race outcome on the current level of pro motorsport
>>
>>158190469
No there were still a lot of wet spots on the track, the pass was in a dry spot but the corner exit was wet, I just got my head down as far as I could so I could stand it up straight and hammer the throttle.

You're not really trying to make things a driver competition unless it's like IROC with the cars all built and prepared together and rotated between rounds and even that has limits
