In Bakersfield's case, the jr college predates the establishment of the 4 year Cal State Bako by 60 years or so, and they have football while CSUB does not so its a bigger event to get people to come out and reminisce.

Also the alumni association is a charitable org that helps fund scholarships for currant students, I am in my 30s and doing well in my career, so I kicked over a couple of bucks to help the new generation of students.

I used to work in the Institutional Advancement office of a much smaller school. While we didn't have an athletics program, we did have an alumni association and events like golf tournaments. The purpose is to keep a connection with former students so that if they become successful, we can hit them up for donations.
When people give money to something, even a small amount, it anchors a feeling of personal importance in them. Most members of the alumni association don't make the school money but since it keeps potential whales in contact with us, it's worth doing. A single million dollar gift to the university covers several decades of running the alumni association with plenty left over. Any other large donations after that is all gravy for the school.

Not sure if it's good or bad that Hispanics end up in the local community college at a higher rate than their population of the catchment area would predict.

Eh, As a teacher, if you are 18 and have no idea what you want to major in, CC lets you bang out your first two years at dirt cheap prices, so much of collegiate pricing is inflated if you need to pay for on campus housing with a meal plan and that kind of bullshit. I think it was like 700 a semester when I was a student, you could even make money back with Pell grants and board of governors waivers

Granted it can really suck for some majors, my GF did nursing and the fights for the bio 101 and chem 101 labs were no nasty you had to know exactly when you were eligible tor register and lock in your shit asap.

Not every CFB post can be about LSU or Penn State, someone's gotta hold it down at Bakersfield College

I've got a soccer ball from the 125th Everton Anniversary, signed by a player who was a very prominent player back in the 50s and 60s.

I also have a match day program from Stephen Ward's first competitive match for Bohemians in the FAI Cup against Skerries Town (he scored both goals in a 2-0 victory, and broke the Eircom League transfer record when he was bought by Wolves for 100K). He signed my program.

I also mentioned in a previous thread that I had a hurl as a child signed by DJ Carey, but this was later stolen.

The school I worked at had a scholarship funded by the alumni association. It wasn't much money, about $500 for a single term, but sometimes we'd only get one application so that student automatically won. We rarely received more than half a dozen applications. Think most student either didn't know the scholarship existed or assumed there would be lots of competition for it so it wasn't worth the time to fill out the application for so little money.
