And so the 2026 European Tour ends with another first time winner in Niels Zonneveld as he wins his maiden PDC ranking title and shakes off the tag of "highest ranked player without a senior ranking title" (in case you were wondering, that tag now passes down to another left hander in little Justin Hood).Despite going down 2-0 to Danny Noppert in an unsurprisingly nervy final, Triple Z turned it around to win 5 legs in a row, and dealt the killer blow with a colossal 157 outshot with The Freeze waiting on 64 to level at 5-5. Danny did not win another leg after that and lost 8-4 to make it 5 Euro Tour final defeats out of 5. Although he's a rather awkward left hander who looks like his wrist's on backwards, Zonneveld has produced performances this year which were deserving of a title in some form - including being the only person to beat Luke Littler on the Euro Tour in 2026, a sudden death leg at the World Matchplay and a World Grand Prix quarter-final - but never got over the line until tonight. Niels will surely thank his old neighbour Wessel Nijman for suitably shitting himself in tonight's quarter-final. Maybe Wessel bet on a 6-5 loss...The final Euro Tour of the season was quite an amazing tournament, with multiple 110+ averages (including Gian van Veen's record 120.24 last night), a lot of upsets and close games throughout. Let's hope the 2027 Euro Tour is more like this tournament, and not a largely predictable slog where the usual names win, as happened many times over the 15 Euro Tour events this year.The European Championship begins on Thursday in Dortmund at 6pm UK / 7pm Germany.
