Hockey doesn’t draw anymore
>>

If it's only for canadian people I'd totally believe you
>>
>>158286351
Probably because of inflation and people not having the disposable income to attend games.
>>

Doesn't seem to be the case for the NFL yet but I agree it is because we're all getting nickel and dimed to death; no money left over to waste

soft boycott for the cbc shit. My leafy Canadian heart has gone cold, and the Zamboni just run it over :(

Ive been saying for years that all these seasons of soulless teams from the southern US states ruin the sport. Nobody wants to see teams from North Carolina, Florida, Texas, etc win the title.

florida is ok. but all these krankens and utah clubs and desert franchises are a joke. i only watch east coast games anyway.
>>
It's because of mass immigration. CBC ended Hockey Night in Canada after 75 years on air, almost 100 if you go back to the original radio broadcasts, and put on cricket in its former timeslot. There was also no fanfare in media about it ending--something kids grew up watching with their parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents wasn't even given a 5 minute spot on the news to mention it let alone celebrate its cultural impact--and the main news item about it was lamenting how the Jeet language version was gone.

Didn't Vegas sell out all but one game in their history?

nfl is 8-9 home games and almost all weekends, even actual poor people can swing going to a few of them unless the team is a really hot ticket. It really is impressive that so many of those charlotte hornets-ass NBA/NHL weekday games sell out at those prices

canada hasn't won the highest level men's professional hockey tournament in over 33 years.

canada hasn't won the highest level men's international tournament in over 12 years.

>>
>>158288731
>Stadiums full of influencers and suits
Teams generate more revenue by getting a couple of influencers and millionaires buying tickets than selling the average family low price tickets. it's all business
>>
>>158288763
In an even grimmer twist - those influencers and celebrity millionaires often get them for free. Nothing drives real ticket sales more than thinking all of those guys are paying big bucks for the seats. Not to mention the bigger ones already get paid the price of the ticket by taking a few selfies at the game.
>>
the games in the article are
>winnipeg vs chicago
>utah vs edmonton
>calgary/toronto/la vs vegas

the only one that's notable is toronto vs vegas, it's probably more an exchange rate and trump thing
32 teams and an 83 game season is too much for anyone to care about, but it's good for tv and gambling deals
>>
I dont even recognize the game anymore. They got rid of fighting and everybody just wants a trade to the best team in the league. That usa-canada game was like the only time i felt like the players actually cared if they won or lost. NHL really overplayed their hand with meme southern westward expansion and the league is just watered down with markets that dont care. The hurricanes owner put his wife and 5 kids names on the lord stanley cup, its just a bunch of gay cucks now but to be fair thats kinda the direction every sport is going
>>
>>158289146
>and everybody just wants a trade to the best team in the league
its less about being in the best team and more about wanting to join teams in states with no income tax, nice weather, and isn't being invaded by jeets. Playing for a canadian team is a bad experience right now
>The hurricanes owner put his wife and 5 kids names on the lord stanley cup
Lmao mickey mouse trophy
>>
>>158288731
Billionaires are legit retarded kek
They created the K-shaped economy and hoard all the wealth then don't get why the plebs can't afford tickets and other prices anymore enough to fill an 18000 seat arena for 42 home games.
For some reason they think people will just consoom forever and not that they will price them out.
And then they have no leverage anymore, where are they going to threaten to relocate once Houston and Atlanta get their teams? Fucking Quebec City? Lmao
>>
>>158289184
i still think it's preposterously corrupt that tax advantages aren't accounted for in cap determinations. it's just math. there's no reason to permit it unless you're intentionally unbalancing the competition.
>>158289231
it's especially risky with a sport that gets so much of its income from tickets. but maybe it'll work for them anyway. a lot of stuff that used to be for everyone has been able to sustain itself by specifically targeting rich people with 'luxury' branding.

Bowling has been raising its prices and according to a friend of mine who is big into bowling the game is dying. Pretty much every bowling center in America is owned by one private equity group. People definitely have a threshold on what they are willing to spend. Capitals created a rink side luxury section called the vault that is almost always empty
>>
>>158289288
they do, and big-name or 'experience' stuff has a higher threshold. look at how expensive disney park stuff is. regular people used to be able to casually go without saving for years. but they can get away with it because dumb people with money are happy to spend it.
>>
>>158289231
>where are they going to threaten to relocate once Houston and Atlanta get their teams? Fucking Quebec City?
Plenty of markets open right now. Kansas City, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Phoenix.
>>158289258
Tax laws change all the time, maybe Canada should try being more business friendly
>>
>>158289321
tax laws changing is irrelevant. everyone already has to deal with the fact that they pay taxes differently in every state or province they visit. this is a complete non-issue as far as accounting goes because it is literally the job of accountants to handle that stuff.

you don't know what you're talking about
there's a specific tax law in canada so that canada is one of the most competitive markets tax wise for nhl players
the nba doesn't allow toronto to use
it just requires tax planning and hockey players are usually dumb about anything other than hockey

it's stuff like this why they don't want to play in canada, the only players that like attention are tryhard fags like avery and bissonette
>>
>>158288763
Yes in the short term; in the long term they lose customers and those big TV deals go away

Half the viewership is 55+ year olds. We all knew this was coming. Hockey fans are literally dying
>>
>>158286351
You can only cater to non fans of the sport for so long before the real fans start to get annoyed
>>
>>158291673
People always bring up 30+ years since a Canadian team won, but also 2019 was the last time a traditional market won a Cup
Non-traditional markets winning is beneficial when it happens once in awhile, but when it’s nothing but for a prolonged period it starts being a detriment for the core markets and overall bottom line
>>
>>158291829
The traditional markets should try to win then. They're not entitled to championships, its not like the NHL is purposely helping the sunbelt markets, you can't rig hockey like that.
>>
the audience is mostly white upper middle class people who are disappearing
>>
>>158289231
The new relocation ploy to continue shaking down for public money is to threaten to move across state lines within the same metro area.
>>
>>158289184
Don’t Canadian teams have the trade off of being better for endorsement deals since you’re more likely to be a real household name up there?
>>
>>158288761
Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if the US replaces Canada as having the most NHL players within the next 15 years and it becomes a rarity to see more than 1 Canadian in the top 10 draft picks by 2040.

The really shocking thing is how there was absolutely no retrospective about the impact of Hockey Night in Canada. Like I said: kids grew up watching it with their parents who grew up watching it with their parents who grew up watching it with their parents etc etc all the way back to Canada's great great grandparents listening to it on the radio with their great grandparents. Barely a mention in media? The most prominent article was about the fucking jeet language version that shouldn't have existed in the first place being cancelled? They put on fucking cricket in the timeslot that was HOCKEY Night in Canada for almost a century? Fuck man.
>>
>>158292265
You don't have to play for a Canadian team to get endorsement deals. What the other anon said about taxes is the main thing. Teams like Vegas/Tampa/Florida basically get like an extra 20% of cap space based on the fact players don't have to pay massive amounts of taxes. I honestly wish they'd just eliminate the cap and add a luxury tax system.
>>
>>158286668
Inflation is a good thing anon Trump said so

MAGA!
>>
>>158292265
>Shh you aren't allowed to acknowledge that every market has different advantages, everyone knows the only thing that matters is taxes

This is why the tax argument always annoys me, a 4th liner that punches people can be set for life if he plays in Toronto and the fans like him. Very different than playing in Washington (also a no tax state). The panthers sucked for 25 years despite not having state income tax. You want good players to come to your team? Build a good team.
>>
>>158293702
>a 4th liner that punches people can be set for life
Sure, anon. Every team in the league is climbing over one another to secure 4th line enforcers. Retard.
>>
>>158293788
>if he plays in Toronto and the fans like him
Reading comprehension beaverfucker, endorsements are not an option for a league minimum facepuncher in Nashville
>>
NA/NHL tickets are absolutely insane, i’m amazed anyone shows up to any sporting event. But Gary gets his corporate seats filled and is happy
>>
>>158288100
Terrible
>>
>>158293862
Reading comprehension, retard. No one cares about attracting 4th liners let alone enforcers. Being able to attract them doesn't prove that the taxation bonuses players get by playing in the US isn't a major factor in attracting talent.
>>
>>158294784
Yeah, no shit no one cares about 4th liners. That's not the point. I'm saying that the extra dollars you can get from endorsements can make up the difference in taxes.

You absolutely have got to be kidding.
>>
>>158286351
I can't even watch a game if i wanted to. Augmented ads for midwits on every broadcast. All the canadian broadcasters (lmao j/k we are only allowed 1) try to model themselves after ESPN which results is women talking.

I can save hockey in Canada easily. NCAA already gave us the chance to free ourselves from the NHL. We just need the balls to do it.
>>
>>158291829
All the best players are going to play for Sunbelt teams for a reason. Why deal with cringe fans who take that shit super serious when they can go to LA, be relatively unknown and left alone, and live like... Kings
>>
>>158295304
>no one cares about 4th liners
As a massive AHL fan, I definitely care about those guys because I got to see them all play in my local barn as early adults
