>Nearly 75% of NFL players who died between 2008 and 2023 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, a new study led by Boston University researchers finds
>B.U. said the new findings build on a study released in August, which estimated that anywhere from 25% and 98% of ex-NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had CTE

everyone knows this already
anyone currently playing knows the risk
flag football participation is booming while youth full-contact is fading
the future of the sport is pussification until it's two-hand touch, we all know this, but the current players are up-to-date
this isn't news, there is no gotcha anymore

>Cabin crew members, including pilots and flight attendants, have the highest levels of radiation exposure among U.S. occupations, with about 6.9% of deaths among flight attendants attributed to radiation-related cancers, which is higher than any other profession.

Is CTE worth millions of dollars? The answer is yes. Just don’t kill anyone else

How come rugby players are absolutely fine after playing for decades while NFL players turn into drooling retards after 2-3 years?

CTE is pretty bad there too, the future is basketball and baseball

Niggers launch themselves at each other and aim for headshots. The style of tackling is different.

this isn't good by any means. But I would say also that the increased prevalence that we're seeing is also accompanied by the likelihood that there's a pretty wide spectrum of symptoms and presentations of the condition, and that the ones that put it on the map happened to be among the most extreme. Again, that doesn't diminish the severity of acute cases and it doesn't mean we can handwaive the ones that are more mild. But it does start to take the shape of "almost all these guys develop this condition and in some of those cases it has horrible consequences"

I wouldn't let me kids play football tho

rugby doesn't have as many full-speed, head-first collisions, and it doesn't have the same volume of scrimmage battles. Little more flow to proceedings

No.

They’re developing a blood test to detect CTE, just wait until high school kids start getting tested and found to have it in significant numbers. There’s a real chance the sport is dead or at least radically changed in the next 10-15 years.

NFL might start pushing hard on player development in Mexico. The pro league there has been growing rapidly and many colleges there already have teams with many other colleges starting their own teams. Mexicans are stupid enough to not care about the CTE shit too.

We can’t even get universal healthcare despite all evidence of how it would be an improvement for everyone, and you think they are going to let this billions of dollars industry die because 1000 players have CTE?

Reminder that baseball is going into a lockout which is why you're seeing this random seethe about Football (who destroys their sport in ratings every single year and can no longer even beat basketball)

i never mentioned football, sweetie. But as any non-retard would know, the NFL is just as popular as the MLB among mexicans. also it's really gay and underage if you need things to be really popular to validate your personal tastes. go shit up /cfb/ with your low IQ fantasies some more

It doesn't list the age when these players died. Did they live an average life span or did CTE cut 10-20 years off their lives? I'm sure it affected their quality of life.

That's why you see more players wearing those bubble helmets. Ironically one of the first pros to wear one was Cleveland's Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and he's been out two years with a severe neck injury. So you can only protect yourself so far.
