HYROX world champion Joanna Wietrzyk is speaking out about the controversy surrounding her decision to continue racing after suffering a bout of diarrhea during a September competition in Beijing. The 24-year-old Australian athlete said food poisoning caused a bacterial infection, but she was determined to finish the race and win. "I didn't really think about those around me," she admitted in an interview with the BBC, acknowledging that she put other competitors at risk. Wietrzyk also described the online backlash as "mentally and emotionally taxing," saying she even considered leaving the sport.
