Brighton town and the beach between the piers is swamped with tourists in the summer but if you live here you rarely go there, especially on hot days. There's better beaches than that around. The nearest beach to me is about a ten minute walk from my home. During summer me and my GF would go for sea swims every day. I've got kids so we'd often go to the beach after school.As for foreign tourists in Brighton there's loads of foreign exchange students on day trips, week trips and that sort of thing. You might turn a corner and see 30 Italian teenagers with a bit of paper asking you where the library is or some shit. Weirdly now I'm seeing lots of Japanese tourists, especially young women. Not sure if that's a Mitoma thing. You'll see those more out in nature too, so if you go along the coast a bit to Seven Sisters you'll see loads of Japanese tourists at the cliffs. All young women taking a million selfies. The Croydon/London day trippers are worse than the foreign tourists but looe I said if you live here you tend to avoid the busy town centre and beach between the piers.

The Albion part means a conjoining or working together.In the 90s Brighton wanted city status but isn't really big enough so started working on a long term plan for this where Brighton and Hove became it's own council unitary body separated from the rest of East Sussex. The people of Hove are generally less happy about this than Brighton people as there is a distinct cultural difference between the two places but merging to form a breakaway council was mutually beneficial.In 2001 Brighton and Hove gained city status. So now it's in a place where all of these separate places are now also one city.Basically Brighton and Hove Albion FC being a unification of the two places predates the unification of the two places to create the city by about 100 years.

Where I live, in Hove, is not noticeably more gay than anywhere else I've lived in the country.The whole area is historically linked with personal liberty though, so that makes sense for gays to congregate here I suppose. American independence started up the road in Lewes, for example. Interestingly I think the gay reputation keeps away other demographics. There aren't large swathes of Muslims, Africans etc here. "He" has now been struck off and I think there's a pending criminal investigation. Again, I think this is due to the area being linked with liberty rather than anything. Personally I don't mind trans people, just think they're probably ill. Weird thing for me is that it's funded by the NHS.There's a really low proportion of migrants here compared to any other city I've visited in the UK. Birmingham, Manchester, London etc are way more overtly populated by non-English. Even the deliveroo drivers here are largely Brazilian or local rather than the usual.
