Good things:PK was excellent. Credit where it's due to special teams coaching staff and PKers, notably Graf, Sherwood, and Trouba. Really good work.Dickinson was flying and looked great. He's clearly taking strong development steps. Trouba must be having a good impact on him, not to mention Trouba himself is playing solid hockey for us.Misa's speed was evident. He generated a few slick dishes and his zone entries will be a force in the future. Strong face-off work tonight. Unfortunately, Misa sliding feeds to marchment is just throwing the puck into a black hole.Goaltending. With this much offensive talent, holding a team to 2 goals gives us a strong chance to win. I thought Asky looked solid, made some good saves.Bad things:We got one goal. From a defenseman. YeeshThe team doesn't look like they're having fun. There's no pep, no jam in their game, and the youthful exuberance we saw last season is gone. Looks like a chore for them to be out there. Less fun to watch and makes me sad for the players.The power play breakout. Holy shit. They insist on a drop pass to Macklin and then a pass at the blue line to a stagnant forward. We are forcing the puck into a small area ripe for stick checks and it's neutralizing the rush.The 5 Fwd PP lineup was interesting but it's clear they're defensively vulnerable. If only we had highly touted defensive prospect we want to develop who was known in the OHL for his offensive creation from the backend...Puck support in the O-zone especially was bad. We got outnumbered all over the ice. The offensive "system" is murky at best - as far as I can tell, it's roll up/down the wall and try to slide a backhand/weak forehand to shark in the slot for a shot. Unfortunately, teams don't defend like the sharks and will actually cover players in the slot. Doesn't work. Please, we need to stop going after too simple of a system that handicaps the talent we have on the roster.The 4th line - did they even show up?Tl;Dr: Pain :(
