the "default" is magic and other draw 1 per turn games. they give you way fewer cards than you can use, so draw is very valuable. If a game lets you draw 2 per turn then draw is only half as good.

EBG did show off some new cards recently, probably will a lot more as we get close to the release of Hubworld Aidalon. These three are particularly not fun to play against, but will be much fun for the Seeker that specs into thievery. Cool to see an agent that can actually defend itself after being revealed. It will be difficult to keep the 6 mandatory cost to eliminate her, but with the bleeding purse trick or a surprise obstacle, stealing could become impossible for them to afford it.

These all seem really strong for limited. I see a lot of decks splashing for purple just to get access to the good counters. The strongest pairing might end up being Orange/Purple, but we'll have to see the rest of the cardpool to be certain of that.

cards cost what they cost because of other aspects of the game. if the game makes players hungry for more cards then getting more cards will be "OP" (or expensive, if its balanced). like >>97833096 in mtg you only get 1 card per turn when you could easily use 3 or more, so draw is extremely valuable. if one deck could just draw more they would prettymuch always win.

in games that just give you more draw, or some equivalent like SWU, draw tends to be less good. in netrunner you can draw up to 4 per turn with no help so things like Diesel can exist and be balanced. piccy is some exampls of cards that look similar (one shot pay X to draw 3) but are very different valuation because of the system theyre in.

I played a few games of Altered and I liked it for the most part, it had interesting decision trees going on. If anything maybe the problem with gameplay was just how much you had to see every turn (cards to put into the mana zone, what to keep in the reserve, lane to play your cards, bunch of tokens to manage, three stats on each card to keep track of)

I decided to just ignore that and do my best to push my Carrot deck instead. Been doing really well with it lately, with multiple wins or X-1 finishes at my locals.

Regardless, It's not about pure margin, it's margin * volume. Coomer games tend to have high margins comparatively, but very low volume, and sometimes negatively impact high volume stuff like Pokémon sales (less so these days with Pokémon stock basically being a money printer and selling all to scalpers). They're noob traps, essentially, unless there's already an enclave of customers that come to the store. Weeb corner is a good way to mitigate that, as another anon suggested, but it's still almost never going to be worth the risk of alienating the walk in "parents with kids" crowd.

If you want degenerate card games, just buy online and save everyone the hassle. If you want to help your LGS out, work to build a reliable event community for a 2nd tier game, buy snacks and backlog items that have been on the shelves for a while, or sell them popular staples for the 50% market price they'll give you.

I'm done with MtG at this point, primarily due to the three year rotation and 7 sets per year pushing the power level of decks too high for my taste. Digimon looks cool visually and I like the IP but it seems even faster and more explosive which isn't really what I'm looking for, but maybe I'm wrong.

It kind of is? Like, at the top level Draven is the undisputed king, even after the bans and I don't think this will change too much in set 3. Being the easiest card draw legend in the game, and being able to do it 2-3 times a turn for some stupid reason, just makes him beyond powerful.
At store level plenty of decks can compete. I've been to 3 skirmishes this month and they were all won by different legends. Draven, Fiora, and surprisingly Ahri.

Unironically it might be One Piece, anyone else care to comment on this? I'm not that experienced and my decks are freaking Purple Blue Sanji and Krieg, both notorious for plating the long grind.

But One Piece does give me the vibes of old Yugioh in which the first turns are truly just setting up plays for waaaay later, and you tend to play few cards per turn.
Although this specific Meta, Enel exists and he's at full power the moment he has 6 DON on the field, that's like turn x3. Not sure if long grindy games will be a thing this set.

Is there a CG in which Green would be the color of trickery and tactics? Trickery and disruption are the most fun way of playing CGs for me and Green us the coolest color, but in most games i played it is just the ramp/tempo color. From my experience the color that usually gets the cool trickery cards is blue or black/purple. And it may sound autistic but I just can't bring myself to like blue cards. I will gravitate towards green even if it is boring.

One piece has no legs. Printing a dozen different luffies and a dozen different choppers every set is going to cause severe fatigue among the fanbase sooner rather than later.
Pokemon has a thousand+ different creatures to go off with new games coming each couple years. MTG goes to different planes with new sets of characters for every set, ygo makes up new archetypes every now and then. One Piece (and some others like lorcana and riftbound) have a limited amount of content and characters to go by, heavily restricted to adapting stuff from other sources.
