Ok, I've written a quick summary of what I think could explain the egyptian situation (as well as some bits for the ottomans). This is not the full writeup, just some quick notes to get some feedback.--------------------------------Anglo-Ottoman victory against the Napoleon. Rumors are abound of Napoleon entering the Giza Pyramid and exiting somewhat changed. The ottoman authority begins getting questioned due to its poor performance, as well as that of the mamluks.- The power vacuum left in Egypt is exploited by Muhammad Ali, he becomes the “de facto” ruler after the civil war between him, the mamluks and the ottomans. The ottomans tolerate his victory over the mamluks, but they still claim nominal authority over Egypt. Muhammad Ali promotes modernization, both of the army and of the economy.-Egypt expands across the Kingdom of Sudan, and helps the Ottomans in the Arabian Peninsula.- Egypt helps the Ottomans in the Greek War of Independence, but they are defeated [did the greeks become independent in the 1830s or in the 1870s? The wiki gives contradictory statements].
>>96311305- In exchange for their help, Muhammad Ali asks Syria. The sultan rejects this, and with his new army and fleet, Muhammad Ali invades Syria. First Egyptian-Ottoman War. They manage to win, but the need to avoid the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and to slow down Muhammad Ali’s growing power results in european aid in favor of the Sultan. Second Egyptian-Ottoman War (First Oriental Crisis). Egypt loses their gains in the previous war, but they maintain their “de facto” autonomy from the Sultanate.- Muhammad Ali dies in 1848. His heir Ibrahim also dies months later due to disease, so Abbas Helmy (the son of Ibrahim’s younger brother) rose to power.-Abbas’ rule in not particularly prosperous, with Ali’s modernization projects withering away and with growing aversion from the european powers. He helped the ottomans in the Crimean War, but the defeat of the Coalition resulted in a hard blow for his rule. Signing of the Treaty of Berlin in 1856. The fact he was not able to obtain a total independence from the ottomans during this stage was seen by the Egyptians as a failure.- Abbas I dies in 1854. His successor, Sa'id Pasha, manages to get power thanks to western influence. In particular, he gets french aid in exchange of concessions to start the building of the Suez Canal. It quickly gets british investments as well due to the costs. The sinking of Paris in 1860 results in the french investments falling into English hands, they continue with the construction. Sa’id dies in 1863, his modernization project led to him siding heavily towards the English, getting close to their sphere of influence in exchange for industrial and economical aid. These projects, alongside the failed attempt conquest of Ethiopia, put Egypt into massive debt, eroding his power, as well as that of his heir Tewfik.
>>96311314-1871. The Tsardom declares war to the Ottomans claiming the turks disturbed Bulgarian sovereignty. A quick stardom victory forces to cede most of the Balkans to the Austrians and the Russians. Emboldened by this, Isma'il rises in revolt against the Sultan, seeing the chance to not only obtain total independence, but also expand his power throughout Arabia. The Hejaz campaign is quickly successful, taking advantage of the anti-ottoman sentiment of the region, Meca and Medina fall in months, though he is refrained from expanding further due to English advisors, who wish to avoid a quick collapse of the region.-The ottoman sultan Abdulaziz is deposed by Murad V, who claimed to be the savior of the Ottoman Empire. Murad V launches a near suicidal campaign against Egypt, with the goal of moving towards the Pyramid of Gizah. He quickly manages to go through the surprised Egyptian forces, but instead of moving to defeat them, Murad V instead asks to be allowed to enter the Pyramid of Giza. Utterly confused, but seeing this as a sign of madness, Isma’il allows this, and the surviving ottoman army enters the pyramid. The Egyptians decide to seal the pyramid from the outside once they are in, thinking they won’t be able to escape.-When news of this arrive to the Ottoman Empire, the sultanate enters in a state of complete and utter panic. The nation begins quickly fracturing as a result. The Abdul Hamid II faction starts trying to put all the pieces together, but to no avail. Things worsens as a week after “the entombing” most of the city of Istambul seemingly collapsed into the depths, just as Paris did [which part of the city fell? The european or the asian one?].
>>96311322- Beginning of the The Necropolis Event. A month after Murad V’s entombing, the dead begin rising all over the empire, taking arms and fighting whatever force tries to dispute ottoman rule. An immortal army of over 100,000 skeletons began a seemingly cause-less war against the surface. Utter chaos ravages the empire, with the only force managing to keep their grasp on power is the undead husks. Many cults pop up claiming it is the end of the world, massacres across the empire take place. -After eleven days of undead revolt, Murad V returned, coming from what would be known as the Capadocian Caves, with the army he took with him now all Husked as well. From there, he launched a massive campaign of subjugation throughout the Sultanate, gaining both living and undead troops to his cause in his march to what used to be Istambul.- By winter of 1874, Murad V has managed to recover his control over the Sultanate. Launches a series of punitive campaigns against the foreign powers who decided to move against the ottomans during its period of weakness. The Ottoman Undead marches against Egypt. -Seeing the armies of the dead crossing across Hejaz and the Sinai, and disembarking in the shores of the Red Sea, Isma'il Pasha sees this as the end of the world and quickly becomes unstable and unable to lead the Egyptian forces. The western forces dispatched to defend the Suez Canal begin mounting a line of defense.
>>96311330-Battle of Suez. The overwhelmed western are caught in a sandstorm, and seeing that the undead have no issues crossing the clouds of dust, they decide to retreat. The Egyptian forces are left manning the barricades and trenches made by the french and the English, but they are quickly overwhelmed. When all seems lost, a dustcloud moving in the opposite direction suddenly blows into the battlefield, and hundreds of warriors tattooed with ancient Egyptian hyeroglips and animal masks charge into the battlefield from the dustcloud, hacking and slashing the undead. At their head is the figure of Muhammad Ali, suddenly a young man again, encouraging the Egyptians to push back the ottoman demons. Confused, but emboldened, they come out of their trenches and destroy the walking corpses. The “Miracle of The Desert” quickly spreads across Egypt, and tens of thousands of volunteers move to fight the ottomans, pushing the turks back from the shores of the Red Sea.-Muhammad Ali triumphal return to El Cairo is celebrated by all Egyptians. While noone can explain his return, he is clearly not a husk, as husks do not bleed, and Muhammad Ali proved to be living by cutting his palm in front of his army and letting his blood fall into the desert sands. However, dark rumors are abound that even in the most luminous days of summer, Muhammad Ali’s body does not cast a shadow anymore. He is also seen carrying multiple ancient Egyptian trinkets at all times, which makes the more faithful worried, though not at the extent in which the ottoman husks would be preferable.-Seeing his long dead grandfather back to life, Isma'il Pasha collapses utterly, dying a couple of days later. Muhammad Ali becomes the ruler of Egypt once again.-Joining the western powers, the newly led Egypt manages to contain the ottoman forces, though they have to abandon the territories east of the Suez Canal. Egyptian and western forces constantly patrol the strait against occasional ottoman raids.
>>96311337- Seeing that there was an entrance to Agartha through the Pyramid of Giza, Muhammad Ali orders an expedition across it, reaching the layer of Pangea. The Egyptians, helped by western capital (particularly french and british) establish an outpost on the 4th. Creation of Giza Tath Al’ard.- As the owners of an entrance to Agartha, the epigean powers move to claim their influence over Egypt before their rivals do. The Treaty of Athens established that Egypt is to be treated as “a fully sovereign item”, basically agreeing that no western power is allowed to claim Egypt under their colonial wing, though due to their massive debt, Egypt is much closer to the Anglo-French sphere of influence.- Giza Tath Al’ard is not treated as colony or a settlement, but as the “world’s biggest military outpost”, as its goal is to push back against ottoman expansion within Pangea. If the ottomans ever manage to take over Giza Tath Al’ard, the Egyptians are ordered to seal the passages of the pyramid utterly, blocking the pass though them forevermore.
The biggest issue with this writeup was to answer how Muhammad Ali was still alive to fight the husks if he died decades before the Necropolis Event. I was following the bit of the googledoc where it's stated "The Second Oriental Crisis is headed by the now over 100 year old Mohammad Ali Pasha, who has uncovered various artifacts from under the Giza pyramid made specifically for battling husks". I don't delve much on the matter, i kind of handwave it as "he suddenly appeared again", but if someone has a better idea, be my guest.
So why do Gunslingers and Co. have the soldier tag?
>An interlude with the Existentialists:The General sank deeper into his armchair, eyes closed.Afternoon dragged on days like this. Platoons of motes swirled lazily in the rays of fiery light which shone through the windows. Everything seemed to sink downwards, from the thick curtains to the members in their chairs. The downstairs was empty at this time of day, the uninitiated tending to their posts and positions for at least an hour more. To them the club was an exclusive and exciting thing, which it was, but also a source of prestige. Wearing a hidden pin under the cuff or behind the lapel made them feel better than their comrades. The full members of the club hated this, of course. The whole point of the thing was to get away from the politicking and cronyism. An officer was supposed to be judged by his rank and record alone, never his connections. Still, keeping friends in high places ensured the survival of the branch, and drunken visitors can divulge interesting things on occasion. He was revisiting the argument again. At his age it was difficult not to go over things again, and again. Like The Crater.Politics, it all came down to politics. Send these soldiers forwards, hold these ones back, it’ll look bad if we don’t, damn the training. Flashes and words echoed around The General’s mind. General Burnside had been right, and The General had seen what it cost him. He had been a captain then.
>>96315562And Paraguay! Paraguay.“Sir, I believe the Walker may be rather too powerful.”On the other side of the sitting room, battle raged.“Whatever could you mean Lieutenant? It perfectly matches our field experience.”The Major and the Lieutenant stood on opposite ends of the table, a board of hex-shaped tiles between them.“Well sir, it is my understanding that these machines are more prone to mechanical errors than this simulacrum represents.”“In what context Lieutenant?”“Well, against the Mu our machines had notable trouble, sir.”“There is your issue Lieutenant! That was a conflict against primitives in a primitive land. This is a Kriegspiel, a war game! It can hardly be a war if one side refuses to even use artillery. We are simulating a conflict of supply lines as much as simple tactics, and in this battle our machine is well-maintained.”“Yes, sir.”The Major was too fond of his machines, thought The General. Too European. His wars had been in cities and on railroads, never in some Godforsaken wilderness. War was everywhere, everything. It was no more the province of civilization than life itself was. The General had seen what war looked like against the primitive and from that very same perspective. Cavalry turned to flame, teepees burning, tripods and trenches. It was all the same at a fundamental level. A younger man might have giggled. The General instead smiled with the contentment of the elderly. It was a wonderful world.
>>96315564“Now hold on there son, I ain’t finished yet.”“Yessir.”The Colonel had cornered a Sergeant by the drinks cabinet. The non-commissioned officers occupied a precarious space between manservant and target when they were assigned to the second floor. This Sergeant had one of the tan uniforms coming into fashion amongst the British. All identifiers of nationality, save rank, had been stripped as per tradition. Blocking his exit was the Colonel in that faded butternut grey The General remembered so well.“Those Taiping son, you ever seen a man take a bullet square to the chest and get back up? Tso an’ Me were damn sure those Tsardom boys were ‘bout to put us in the damn ground till our boys charged! I tell you what, we might should get us some of those!”The General didn’t know how The Colonel did it. They were the same age, but that man managed to travel the world on his adventures. Perhaps it was the hot blood of the South they had been bragging about before the war. It was the strength of their mutual organization that the North’s wisdom and the South’s vitality could be brought together. No more separation. Too many good officers had died in that conflict, and the worst part was the obligation so many felt to one side or the other. Imagine dying for something you weren’t even sure was right! Better the utter certainty of their new way. There was only war, and war was the only thing for it. It was the scalpel of the self after all. Was it Fuller who said that? But wait, The General didn’t know any Fuller. There was a brief and bitter taste in his mouth. He was dizzy, what was in that tea the Colonel had brought back?
>>96315569Paraguay again. It was too damnably hot here. Everything was sticky with moisture, and not a single surface was free of insect life. The men around him were in a stupor, they had all misjudged the morphine dosage again, or maybe they just wanted to die softly. They lay against the gun, or in the ground. Some were face down in the mud. The sky was dark and grey, and in the ceaseless purple flashing of the clouds he could see everything. There! A Sioux warband in the sky. And there! Mexicans at Veracruz! And Confederates at The Crater! Frenchmen at Amatlán! Every foe in his career stared down at him from the sky, illuminated purple and glowing! Across the muddy clearing of the jungle he saw the too-tall thing stagger out from the trees.“UUUUUUUUUUULLAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”It was stumbling, but not damaged. It looked, no, it felt hungry. Not just hungry, but weak and starving. Three legs as tall as churches, and a tin-can head with gargantuan viewports for eyes. The General stood transfixed, but his body left his mind and made slowly for the cannon. It was so beautiful, standing with the purple sky behind it. He marvelled at the seamless construction, the fluid movements even in emaciation, and the almost gentle deadliness it exuded.“UUUUUUUUUULLLLLLAAAAA-”He watched in awe as every colour of the rainbow splattered out from the tripod’s head when it detonated. He hadn’t even aimed, at least not consciously. There was a sadness to this, to destroy something so beautiful. But there was a purity in the action too. The General fell to his knees, weeping and laughing as the tripod shuttered sideways and slumped into the canopy.
>>96315573The clicking of heels brought him forth from his happiest memory. It must be another recruit, here to hear that same story. They never understood. Theirs was the smash-boom giddiness of children, and the sublime perfection of that moment was impossible to explain. It was terrible to be known for that, forced to always recall what you could never again experience. The General opened his eyes.“Konnichiwa, Shiki-kan.”Before him stood a young man, his shoes polished and uniform neat. It was very dark, with a sword buckled to the side. An Imperial Japanese officer then, this could be interesting. He looked upwards, no medals and no insignias. This recruit would be like the rest, no experience and no knowledge of war. The chances were that he would wash out early or be sent on an assignment of no-return. Too many dandies found the romance of their organization more appealing than the reality. Wastrels to a man. The General raised his view once more. This man was different. Entirely shorn of hair, with shrapnel scarring and burns on one side of his head and face. Here was a man who had seen a battle, perhaps many. A man who was not scared by a little bloodshed, a man who embraced it. His eyes told the most, because they were hungry. Hungry and emaciated like the tripod. Like The General. He smiled then.
>>96315581>NOTES:Writing for the Existentialists is fucking hard. They have a weird mindset. The General has mostly gotten over his Civil War hangups, but he still has some American Exceptionalism in his brain despite all the talk of equality among officers no matter background. Then again, so does the Major since he’s full in on the German technical superiority meme. They’re all on good enough terms to take this sort of thing in stride, for now at least. Time will tell if one of them ever snaps in an argument over unit balance. The sort of person who goes to serve in 8 different armies in the 19th century is a good template for one type of Existentialist I think. Someone like Gordon who is in it for the adventure as much as any other reason. That’s what the Colonel was based on. Others like The General are really different mentally. Seeing Hyperboreans does that to a person. Also just fighting in the late Civil War. The Japanese recruit is in a similar mindset. Meanwhile I think the Lieutenant is just here because his commanding officer joined and he followed like a dog. The Sergeant is here for the paycheck and is regretting his choices.
>>96315584The Fuller reference might have been pushing it on a couple of levels, but I saw in a paper about British historiography in the early 20th century that he directly called war a scalpel for cutting away the fat of the nation, and that’s a Warfare Existentialist quote if I’ve ever heard one (Just replace nation with the self and there you go). I will say that the main thing keeping the Existentialists away from later developments of Fascism is their complete disdain for civilian life. They’re never going to schmooze their way into industry or the general public like the Fascists did because they cannot disguise their contempt for the average person. They can barely manage to hide their distaste of other officers who won’t join, and even doing that is a contentious subject. (It should be noted that these semi-members who aren’t in the inner circle might include figures like Cunningham who are showing up as a societal thing to show how much they like war and also maybe negotiate covert contracts.)Also note the complete absence of enlisted men except the sergeant in the story. They are here to go into the trenches and then die according to the Existentialists, and when they’re not doing that they can serve drinks and shut up. The Existentialists only get away with doing this through a combination of strict discipline, and really good pay for their soldiers.
>>96311362I like it. And I don't know if it's your intention, but you can very easily argue that he's a Napoleon puppet with the whole lack of a shadow + pyramids thing (or the total opposite? Who knows.) Or, if you want, we could just write that he went on an earlier expedition into the Pyramid and disappeared, assumed dead, and then things go along from there. We could work it in that he knows more than anyone about the true function of the pyramids, save Napoleon, though I feel like there should be some kind of cost to that knowledge.>>96315564>Expedition! is also an in-universe wargameKek. Surprised nobody ever thought of that before.I like the story. Especially the Paraguay flashback. A really understated exploration of the insanity the existentialists (involuntarily? Would Warfare Existentialism be classified as a mental condition if more people knew about it?) subject themselves to.

>>96311362I didn't write it and have no clue what the plans for it were. The obvious solution would be for him to mysteriously disappear one day instead of dying. Frankly, I've come to see the supernatural angle in Egypt as a bit overblown and wacky. At the very least I'm not sure we need immortal Muhammad Ali AND the artifacts AND the beast-headed warriors with laser eyes. You know, people keep bringing up Mahdists, but wouldn't Muhammd Ali himself be a factor here? I can see a lot of people thinking that HE is the Mahdi, if he doesn't claim the title himself. The Mahdist revolt would either not even happen the way it did or it could be against Muhammad Ali, with the rebels denouncing him as Dajjal and rallying behind the REAL Mahdi.>>96309498I suggested the name Khrabry already. Or the city could just keep the original name. Anything but Bretovsk, because it sounds like if you named a French city Bordyon or and English city Lonbridge.
>>96318586would it help if we established that most of their weirdness only exists underground? On the surface I would guess it's mostly your standard husk-fighters and some very uncomfortable Euros.
>>96315825>>96318586I was trying to avoid the "Ali disappears one day into the pyramid and reappears", I feel it's somewhat redundant considering that is kind of what happens with Murad anyway. I thought that Ali reappearing seemingly alive after having a completely normal death is considerably different and has enough shadowy implications to be different enough while keeping the mystique of the thing. >you can very easily argue that he's a Napoleon puppetHadn't thought of that. I was imagining as he's a doppelganger construct of sorts made to imitate Ali, and not even him does not know he's not the real Ali though I hadn't thought much further than that, so tying him to Napoleon makes sense. >Frankly, I've come to see the supernatural angle in Egypt as a bit overblown and wacky. I agree somewhat with that, but considering the ottoman and egyptian lore is heavily tied to the Necropolis Event, in which tens of thousands of dead rise from their graves, I think it's kind of unavoidable. I mean, this event would cause mayhem worldwide, there's no way that the news of thousands of dead coming back to life in the Holy Land not cause many doomsday cults to explode everywhere. I would like to turn the beast-like soldiers into mere masked soldiers, maybe under some sort of trance to not fear the husks and with great knowledge on how to destroy their bodies to finally kill them. >wouldn't Muhammd Ali himself be a factor here?I do like your idea that the Mahdist Rebellion is a civil war inside of Egypt between those who see Ali as the Mahdi and those who see them as just another undead or a "fake prophet".
>>96315584It was a good read. You're very good at characters. I actually read it just before going to sleep last night and it infiltrated my dreams.>They are here to go into the trenches and then die according to the Existentialists, and when they’re not doing that they can serve drinks and shut up. The Existentialists only get away with doing this through a combination of strict discipline, and really good pay for their soldiers.I think the promise of meritocracy and chance of moving up the ranks would also be a big motivator, at least for people to join if not stick around.>Fuller quoteThe infamous 2e time travel plots...>>96311362Maybe he just never went away. He's just really old, but somehow still capable enough to lead. Maybe the Implements of Unhusking are stretching him out like Bilbo. They save him from total senility and death, but he steps down when his son dies (graving, and tired, and old). So, things go on more or less as normal until the Necropolis Event inspires him to intervene. Him coming out of retirement would be less of A Thing than him appearing from the aether, and his 'well persevered' nature would have become something of a fixture of the years (if hobbits can get used to it so can egyptians). It would mean he surely wouldn't be seen as a part of the Necropolis, but a reaction to it. A 'oh look, you made grandpa had to get up out of his chair' sort of feeling, rather than 'the ghost of my grandfather has appeared to cast my enemies into flame' sort of feeling. It's mysterious, but subtly so, and subtly is what the Egypt stuff needs. >I would like to turn the beast-like soldiers into mere masked soldiersYeah. The masks could be Implements of Unhunking.
>>96314119There isn't a particular reason, i don't think. I don't think it's egregious, but guess they would be better suited with Auxiliary, or even nothing.
>>96321287>A 'oh look, you made grandpa had to get up out of his chair' sort of feeling, rather than 'the ghost of my grandfather has appeared to cast my enemies into flame'You'd still be sending a +100 old man into battle. And keeping him alive and spry for so long would open many questions before the Necropolis Event starts. Centenarians in the 19th century were rare, centenarians who could lead men into battle are almost unheard of.
>>96319905>I would like to turn the beast-like soldiers into mere masked soldiersI'm down for this, but let them keep the laser vision because I think it is very funny and fitting for the sort of esoteric conspiracy thing a lot of Agarthan stuff has going for it.
>>96321640Yeah, it's weird if you think about it, but it would be easy enough for people not to. For, one thing, they will have gotten used to it. How many generations would there be that have gone their whole lives with him being alive, old, but still capable? Any questions about his longevity would have already been asked and 'answered'. Those questions might come up again, but, like all old questions, it would mostly be a call and response. The choice to just ignore the oddity would be a much easyer one to make, and seeing as it would be incredibly inconvenient to not, of course most people will. The puppet of Napoleon thing wouldn't work, but every other idea brought up now could be in some way or another. You could have the Mahdists revolt, citing his unnatural long life, or you could have it not happen, either by him claiming the title or by his being able to restore stability. Also, it's not like he would be routinely on the front lines. If he ever is, and loses a few years there, it can be chalked up to superstitious soldiers misremembering, too active imaginations, or, come down too it, a miracle. Alternatively, he could put on one of the beast masks in a pinch. Generally, as a general, He would be using his mind much more than his body.Regardless of all that, an exceptionally old man is still less unheard of than the dead suddenly appearing in their youth, that much is certain.>It's mysterious, but subtly so, and subtly is what the Egypt stuff needs>Him coming out of retirement would be less of A Thing than him appearing from the aether>>96322132I agree. Also, i'd like to keep the corpse eating.
>>96322465I suppose we could have him gain some sort of egyptian ankh icon that allows him to regain his youth, but it's still going to be weird to see him in charge of the army. The elephant in the room is going to be very weird before the necropolis event, whereas if he appears during the madness, it might be swept aside as the less bad/weird choice.
>>96328202>Bullfights but with dinosaursCan't tell if brilliant or stupid

>>96322465>>96321287>>96318586So instead of dying and suddenly appearing, maybe he receives some sort of magical item that grants him eternal youth in exchange of "something" (hence the lack of shadow)? Maybe he joins an ancient egyptian cult and thus he comes back with them to fight the husks? Something like this?-Muhammad Ali receives a message by a stranger, including a mysterious item. -Muhammad Ali's son Ibrahim dies of disease. He announces that he's abdicating from power, intended to become a desert hermit for the reminder of his life. He leaves his son Abbas in charge, and then he leaves.-He's taken for dead a decade after his exit, burial with full honors without the body.-Meanwhile, he finds an ancient egyptian cult in the desert.-He learns about the old legends and other mystical stuff. Meanwhile he recovers his youth in exchange for something (maybe the eating husks part is needed for the eternal youth/life?), but this process turns into something not fully human, hence the lack of a shadow.-He's contented with his new hermit life, but the Necropolis Event forces him and his cult to come out of the shadows.-Things then happen as described in >>96311337.I still like more the idea of him being a mere copy made by unknown forces and him not really knowing he's not the real Muhammad Ali, though I'm not sure how to make these two ideas fit together. ---
You know what would be a good campaign? A 1871 Paris Commune coincides with the Necropolis event in the catacombs.

I'm working out some Austria-Hungry Traits. One idea was Mystery Meat can gain Line Fire by testing awareness at the start of the turn. I realized that wouldn't really work (too many rolls, and just rolling once for the unit would defeat the point), so moved to having it be before the game, but that felt too abstract. So my final idea for it is to force you into rolling for the Mystery Meat rule and having Mystery Meat models of the same Ethnicity game Line Fire. Anyway, so i've been looking at the MM a whole lot, and so noticed that it has the Ethnic rule. That's odd, because it means you'll end up with an ethnicity and an Ethnicity. "Other" has a weird interaction with the rule where it Also, because "Other" is only on a 10, you're 10% more likely to end up with a Galician than anything, and the Mystery Meat having a most likely outcome bothers me. This is more minor, but it also bothers me that 10 is the best result rather than the worst or an equal one, as is normal. The other thing i noticed is that "What?" won't come into to play all that often, and is bound to be one of those things people forget to roll for. It's also a second and long rule on a mob model with an already fairly long rule. So, my idea is to 1. Specify that Mystery Meat supersedes Ethnic, or just straight up replace it. Expand the Discipline malice to all Ethnicity options, not just the Mystery Meat exclusive options, and have it be an "if" rather than a "for each".2. Have the "Other" result be on the 9, and add to it that you must then roll on the normal Ethnicity chart. 3. Fold "What?" into the rule. Have it on the 10 and change it to something to the effect of "This model gains +1 to a Stat of your choice, and ignores effects that target it as a result of something on it's profile"
Another thing i'd like to change is how Einnmannpackungs work. It should not retain it's special effect when Cooked into a Warm Meal. It should be a choice between +2 AP next turn or +1 AP when you want it, rather than +2 when you want it. It's too much. Also, i think the models that can take it should not be allowed to share it. Otherwise, you'll end up taking models just for having access to the item, but never using it themselves. An alternative to locking it to the models is locking it behind a Trait, and having it replace all Rations when that trait is taken. >more notes on equipmentThe Vetterli is in the equipment but not on any models. They have no Agarthan mounts. Aside from the normal three Saurs, it would be cool if they could get Olm-Steeds somehow, but that maybe that should stay an Atlantis exclusive thing. Maybe a Trait that allows the Viennese Violinist or Bosniaken to take them? Having all the Bosniaken on one Olm-Wyrm would be fun, but i don't know about allowing an Olm-Wyrm into a non-Olm faction.

More Smoke :All Colonial Firearms gain Blackpowder. Colonial Firearms that have Smoke gain additionaly +1 Lethality. Fast Smoke recomended.Blackpowder : After resolving an Attack with this weapon, place a Smoke Token in the hex this model occupies. If that cannot be done, place it instead in the Front Arc, and if that cannont be done, place it instead in the Back Arc. Stacks with Smoke. Smoke is removed at the end of the next Activation.Baltimore Guncotton Co. :All Colonial Firearms without Smoke gain Guncotton.Guncotton: +2 Range, Deadly. If this model suffers a Critical Hit or fails Evasion agaist a Melee Attack, it Explodes with the following profile once for each Guncotton weapon equipted, and loses those weapons.Fast Smoke :Smoke lasts only until the end of the next Activation.Slow Smoke :Smoke lasts until the end of the game.
The reason only some guns have Smoke despite them all using blackpowder is because of Gunsilk. It's like guncotton, but made from Skyspider Silk instead of cotton. Because Skyspider Silk "holds things in place" it stabilizes, but also greatly weakens, Nitrocellulose made with it. Skyspider Silk has cellulose in it because they can't produce it on their own, they have to eat a certain plant, and that helps them make it. The result of this is that their silk has a useful cellulose content. The guns that have Smoke anyway either have it because those guns require blackpowder for some reason, or because anyone using a gun that last season would not be using modern munitions.Gunsilk was discovered by Impey Barbicane, when, upon taking the Eifel Tower for the first time, he saw the INNER SVN in a Sky Spiders web. But, if you want to play the untrue, non-cannon, stupid head ignoramus lair's version, here are extra rules for blackpowder and guncotton.

>>96372605>especially the wiki give that it seems to be the best repository for everything. What could we improve on the wiki in regards to formatting? Right now the thing I think it still lacks is content.
>>96372657Honestly, it's in an alright state as is. Needs more content obviously, mostly images, but it's got the basics. The main page could do with some improvements though, just to make it look nicer. Compare it to 1d6chans home page or even basic wikipedia. I'll have a look and try to get my head around editing it this weekend.

>>96377725I guess a good argument against including him is that it kid of implies that if you give your BAPs a Khaki Uniform you have to take them as HMRRs instead, which would suck if you just liked the look. It's not really a probably for playing online or with tokens, but if you did play with models, that would be frustrating. I normally don't like to making "thinking out loud" posts, but considering the thread's how it is right now, figured might as well.
>>96385134If it's any consolation, I think I'm the only anon in here with physical BAPs of any variety right now and I'm doing them as redcoats (with khaki helmets because why not)So having a khaki-specific unit wouldn't cramp anyone currently around.

Fuck, that was long. >>96379136>What's the story here, by the by?Just computer issues, everything else if fine, thank you for your concern however, its appreciated. According to a friend, an update forced it to run in safe mode without any reason, or without showing that it was running in safe mode. I need to dig through the last two threads and see what I've missed, but this crap really underscores how much I need to get a module done for TTS so that everything can be found in one place, and that the game survives (2e itself, if anything how strong the thread is still going shows the setting has resilience) in the eventuality anything happened and I could not longer post for real. Austria still needs a bit of attention, the two Heroes needs more Traits, but Japan/Satsuma is pretty much the last piece of the colonial puzzle. >>96397988>That would be cool, I could help with that if we divide work.Sure. I will add the ones in the mercenary book (I'll check if the version I have is the latest one). Should we add them in bulk, as in one wiki page per book, or should each unit have its own page? I believe the later is the better option so long as we link them well enough.
>>96397988> I don't have much of a direction in mind for it, beside the not!GUNDAM being in there to enable proper Kaiju fighting scenes, so if you have some weird mechanics or focus you'd like to give to the faction, this is the perfect time to discuss it.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karakuri_puppetIf we extend the idea that the Ashigaru units are female(is this still canon? It's chart-lore which means I treat it as gospel unless corrected) because of a population shortage in Satsuma then having Karakuri as another attempted replacement for a limited population could be a good segue into more fantastical stuff. Plus, there's probably a way to tie them to the Clockwork thinker somehow.
>>96398075One unit per page is better, just have an index.
>>96398213to elaborate, imagine a single looping task version of the clockwork scout to use as a worker unit.
>>96397988Glad your back. I've been working stuff out for Japan in my notepad. These are some excerpts for lore stuff. I've worked out some ideas for mechanical stuff too, and that doesn't contradict the current lore, though i did derive it from my own story ideas, so if nothing else, just take this as my personal scaffolding. I'll post profiles here in a minute, and the mechanical ideas this facilitated. Part of the reason i was thinking about alternate lore was because i feel the current stuff isn't up to date with the scope of the game. Meaning, Sunken Satsuma works well when the game is set almost totally in Agartha, as Agartha is smaller, and the time line ends in the 1880s. So, it feel like it's 1e lore, if you know what i mean. That's my most important reason, but i could elaborate if someone wants. I guess it's not that important over all. People will use the lore they like, but i feel it's still worth sharing. I just don't want to be misunderstood in where i'm coming from. >Empire of JapanI propose that the lore is simplified extremely. No Mu invasion, and no sunken islands. Samuria Saur Riders and Ashigaru stay, but the Samuria are Edo/Meiji Samuria rather than Sengoku Samuria. We don’t attempt to explain Ashigaru.>As for EntrancesThe Osore Entrance is found by Italian surveyors, while the Fuji Entrance is found by French surveyors. The Orsore Entrance is quick, large, safe, and leads to a good part of the third, but requires sacrifices. The Italians say they will handle the sacrifices for and development of the entrance, if they are allowed to manage it. The Fuji entrance is slow, small, cold, and leads to a mysterious icy/snowy place on an unknown layer (it’s probably the 4th). Ultimately, the Italian’s harsh terms are agreed to, with the hope they can soon find another entrance of equal or grater value. The search for a viable independent entrance is a major motivator for their surface colonial efforts.
>>96398357Hopefully you guys can see what i'm trying to do there. This is what i've been thinking for weapons. I posted the Katana profile earlier. I imagine they'll have a number of ways to lower reload, and that the Murata will be very limited normally, requiring traits or certain leaders. I'll talk about Heroes and Leaders after i talk about Ashigaru. The historically of the Snider bothers me, because i just got if off wikipedia and the link to their source for that was dead, but it makes sense mechanically, and i guess that's more important. I did have the Spencer Repeater as well, but dropped it because it didn't really fill a niche. I like having 1, 2, and 3 cost options for rifles. Murata is just a Beaumont. Chassepot is a Gras with 2 Reload, and Snider-Enfield is a Lee-Metfield without Ammo Feed or Headshot. Snider-Enfield: Cost 1Range 14, Long -3, Pen 2, Leathlity G, Reload 2Chassepot: Cost 2Range 12, Long -2, Pen 2, Leathlity G, Reload 2Headshot!Murata: Cost 3Range 12, Long -2, Pen 2, Leathality G, Reload 1
So, with the new angle, the other major clans of the restoration suddenly feel lacking in representation. It makes the set list feel asymmetrical to me, so i come up with ideas for Choshu and Tosa units to balance it out. I'll explain my ideas for the Ashigaru first, then explain my ideas for Choshu and Tosa.Satsuma Ashigaru: Cost 4SoldierAP: 2Movement: 3, Accuracy: 3, Strength: 4, Discipline: 3, Evasion: 4, Labor: 4, Awareness: 4Health: 2Armor: 4 6 5Training [Snider-Enfield]Equipment: Dagger, Flintlock Pistol, Snider-Enfield, Minie Rifle, Rations, Shield, Material, Torch, LanternGyaru: If a model has a Satsuma Ashigaru adjacent to it, that model has +1 Discipline.>commentsIs the cost alright? Minie Rifle is just renamed Bradsburg, and maybe it doesn't need to be included. Maybe spelling out the pun is stupid, and explaining how the rule works in a meta way feels lazy, but i think the rule itself is good. Half of the old rule doesn't work anymore. The idea is for them to be a more of a support unit by default, that, with a certain Hero Trait, can function as your main force. Buffed armor and lowered most everything else. Training and Gyaru get you back to 4 Acc and 4 Discipline. They'll be able to gain Line Fire if you take a certain Hero Trait.>Choshu and Tosa modelsIdea for Choshu is a sort of combination Sargent, Capitano, and Ordinance Sargent. He'll have Set The Pace, and have a version Capitano della Compagnia but with -1 Reload instead of Line Fire, and where you are limited to 3 Soldiers to chose, but that's your only limitation. Tosa will have Horse option, Colt option, and good melee with Katana. It's gimmick will be model's that it's engaging may not engage other models. Tosa is farther along than Choshu, but obviously neither are quite worked out. I keep mentioning Hero Traits, so i'll go one and explain them. But first, i'll post the Tosa unit, seeing as he's fairly far along.
>>96398075>Should we add them in bulk, as in one wiki page per book, or should each unit have its own page? >>96398769Oh, actually, i was right without realizing, because this is a perfect pivot point. You may notice that my version is lower costed and lower stated. The reason for this is because, like the Italian Soldato, he will be able to take Faction Traits. This is something i haven't quite worked out, which makes it harder to talk about, but, right it now it seems that you will only be able to take 1 Faction Trait, and that trait will effect the whole list, not just your Imperial Soldiers. Originally it was going to be just like the Soldato, but grew. Maybe scaling it back would be good. Were it to be scaled back, the model would gain a rule, like Soldato, that indicates it can take Faction Traits. The Faction Traits are based on the major garrisons established after the Boshin War. I figure the Surfacer generic Leader will be able to take a Faction Trait as well as both Heroes. I plan the Agarthan generic Leader to be a Samurai Saur Rider. I'd like to have two Heroes split in a similar way, but right now only have 4 Hero Traits in mind. Of those, only 3 are worked out at all. Those 3 would determine if the Hero is from Choshu, Satsuma, or Tosa, and buff the related models. This is how Ashigaru would gain Line Fire. Aside from the synergy, officers from those clans had color coded hats, which would be cool for real models and illustrations. I'll post some of my notes for both Trait sets.

No Mu invasion, and no sunken islands.I'm less attached to the Mu invasion of Japan than I am to the Raid on New York, so I'm not going to oppose revamping the lore if its to simplify it, rather than try to make the same element fits somewhere else. I guess in this case the timeline is too much at issue. One thing I really do not want to erase from the game is the possibility of Agartha spilling forth on the Surface however. Maybe Mu establishing a full colony on top and defending it for years requires too much detail for the scope of what we are doing now, but maybe smaller raids could be mentioned as well somewhere?
>>96399094What's the status on Hawaii as a Mu protectorate? >>96399247>commentsI'm not sure how these are balanced. I guess Cost will be a determining factor in their balance. Imperial Guard is meant to be this factions other Elite. The Agarthan stuff isn't as prominent as i might like, but i feel it's necessary for cohesion and simplicity. One idea i had, in order to preserve the more traditional images of Samurai Saur Riders is to introduce a Samurai Psysaur Rider Leader for Lost Men. Being a Prophesy Leader would explain why he is "somehow worse in melee than the normal samurai. That is part of why i posted the Disgruntled Ronin model as a merc (aside from the fact that having a Ronin mercenary is cool). Alternatively, could be a Mu adjacent model that can do Maledictions. I think Prophesies are more fun, and Lost Men are cooler, but it could work to satisfy Mu raiding the surface. Though they could also raid as Lost Men. I might be misremembering.>Maybe Mu establishing a full colony on top and defending it for years requires too much detail for the scope of what we are doing nowI was thinking more from the perspective that it makes Japanese engagement with Taiping less likely and that they can already fight Mu in Agartha. It's a big deviation with little reward, it seems to me. I'd be cool with a Mu raid on Hokkaido, even a more planned and prolonged one, i can see the benefit in that. I just really don't think Mu should succeed in keeping it. I'd say Dousicily and Ottomans are big examples of Agartha spilling over, and Britain losing India is another one. Maybe Mu takes over Alaska (or the parts that matter) from the Tzardom, and there is an international expedition to beat back Mu and fight over Alaska? Like a Pacific Doggerland? If it happened late enough, Japan could join.
>>96399094>Maybe Mu establishing a full colony on top and defending it for years requires too much detail for the scope of what we are doing nowIf we're going for that, what we have with the mu-aligned ainu would be enough, since it wouldn't really be a directly controlled mu territory. Japan not really able to immediately counter the alliance would make sense as their modernization plans have been severely delayed due to the loss of Hokkaido and the sinking of Kyushu. >>96399448>it makes Japanese engagement with Taiping less likelyWhy? Taiping are hyperborea-aligned, and a big fight about who's going to become East Asia's main power will give them enough reasons to go against each other.>Maybe Mu takes over AlaskaThat messes with the american lore.

Kyoryu King is just Honai Standoff and Tonkin Team rolled into one with added Discipline. The Discipline part may be too much. If so, i'd increase his Discipline to 7. He may seem a little cheap, but the cost of a Saur is not included, so he will be at least 30, and at most 40. Maybe include a Cavesaur in his load out? He could have the better version of Intimidating Headdress that lowers Evasion, but if he did, i would want him to have 2 AP and 3 LP instead. I'd also like to have a generic surfacer leader that's similar to the Comandante. A cool idea for a Samurai Psysaur Rider would be that when he would die, instead of Warrior's Way, he can use Psycall and transfer his remaining LP to whatever shows up. As for named leaders, Saigo Judo, Nozu Michitsura, and Fukushima Yasumasa are names worth looking into, it seems to me.The last prepared stuff for me to post is ideas for Specialists and Workers.
So, for Workers, i'm thinking one could be a sort of reverse Moblot, where it is a Worker by default, but can be taken as a Soldier at the cost of 1 Movement. It would function as the intermediate step between Imperial Soldier and Satsuma Ashigaru. The other worker would just be the typical generic worker, may not even be strictly necessary. For Specialists, an Ordinance Sergent type unit would be good. An Engineer unit (probably with connection to the Mech), and Sushi Chef feel like musts to me. Maybe an Army Medic. An Academic / Surveyor unit of some kind would probably be good. Mercenary Options would focus on Specialists. >>96399680>Why?>as their modernization plans have been severely delayed due to the loss of Hokkaido and the sinking of Kyushu. Also, they wouldn't have an entrance that they could use to exploit (or engage with) Agartha. Meaning, in order to reconnect with Kyushu, something they would be very much keen to do, they would have to take back Hokkaido from the Mu. That would be very costly and delay war with China (which would be over Korea as a war of security. Asia's top dog is Britain here you argue that they aren't because of Taiping, to which i argue they still are just not to the same degree). If one thing is kept from my proposed changes, it should be giving them an entrance at Osore.

Friendly units may spend 1 AP while adjacent to move this unit up to 2 hexes or exchange its equipment for something else it can wield.>Equipment:Shovel, Pickaxe, Lantern, Alcohol, Rations>Recruitment:Satsuma>COMMENTARY:The Satsuma samurai are starved for manpower. Constant warring with their Agarthan neighbors has won them no friends, but lost them many soldiers. First they impressed their wives, but who was then to maintain the homefront? Strange as it may sound, the homeland which the Satsuma fight so fiercely to protect is one peopled by machines. At first glance it would be hard to tell. Aside from their small stature, these creations move smoothly and silently like they were really alive. But they never raise their heads to gaze at the horizon, or sing songs, or sleep or dream or any of the other thousand actions which might be expected of them. The Karakuri Labourers work, and that is all.
>>96400780European visitors are astounded by their seeming complexity, but much of it is for show. The machines do not know the difference between a bottle and a scythe except by their weight. Handing one a weighted pole would lead it to swing as if it were carrying a pickaxe, even if there was nothing to swing at and no such tool. When carrying lanterns or parasouls, they follow by means of an almost invisible cord carried by their masters, and only through the careful yet subtle shepherding of their guardians are they kept from tripping and shattering their cherubic porcelain faces at any given moment.Satsuma is a land in denial. They fight to preserve a way of life which exists now only in the pantomimed recitals of machines. There are some samurai who despise this, those who wish to embrace their new existence. Others are content with a peasant population who can never revolt, or even challenge the gaze of their rightful daimyo.Tl;Dr:Robots are cool, but 19th century robots can’t think (as emphasized with the Clockwork scout also being brainless). I believe this makes them cool in their own special way.The Karakuri labourers aren’t the only civilian population of Satsuma, probably not even the majority or anywhere close. But there are a fair number of fields and mines and kitchens where they hold sway. They look like PicRel but a little more fanciful. They also move in a completely organic way thanks to the power of damn good engineering. Unfortunately they also break very easy. The Clockwork scout is practicality first, these are much more on the stagecraft side of things. Your other units can move them to relocate the digging ones. The lantern one cannot keep up with most units, but I think that’s endearing to have a little buddy running along behind carrying a lantern on a pole.Cheap price is because of dogshit stats and the fact they can only do 3 or 4 things. I hope there's not a way to make these a combat swarm or something.

>>96400780How did the satsuma manage to build automata? The Satsuma wouldn't have a particular edge in tech before their sinking. And would they be worth it to just have them do peasant work? I feel the time and investment for an automata such as this if the satsuma will have them just plowing the fields.
>>96401796>How did the satsuma manage to build automata? The Satsuma wouldn't have a particular edge in tech before their sinking.Like I posted earlier, the forebearers of these automota already existed OTL. The reason they have them plowing fields is because they're not complex enough to do anything but the most simple of tasks. OTL these automota would serve food and wine, the other tasks are largely up and down motions with a tool or staying upright as its being pulled along.

>>96402959Oh, fair enough, I hadn't realized these were a reference to those dolls, my bad. Still, I think it would be a considerable waste of resources, when vassals and serfs are probably much, much cheaper to acquire and mantain (specially when the Satsuma wouldn't be the most tech-savy of all of the groups in the setting). Tending to the land is quite complex all considered, and these are not thinking machines. Also, if these work that well, I can imagine the western powers (if not indeed all powers) wanting to know how to make them. Just imagine their impact in industrial tasks, so how would we keep them a Satsuma-only thing?
>>96403009I suspect that at the end of the day they're just not as efficient as a human worker or a more conventional machine. You need someone to make sure they're not tripping over random rocks, they only do simple tasks, and they're not very large on account of their small size. You're right about farming being complex, so I imagine they would be used for individual tasks at a time while a human minder has to move them between tasks and re-wind their clockwork. The reason Satsuma uses them is not just because of population issues (Which are a serious problem since their only major neighbor is Mu, who they don't much care for) but also to fit into the Samurai LARP. These are peasants who can't say nonsense "Why don't we buy modern firearms?" or "Please, I'm tired from working all day."It's similar to why France has their infantry dressed up like Knights or why Germany uses walkers when both would in all likelihood be better off with some variety of tank. At the end of the day style and cultural relevance can team up to beat practicality sometimes. As for industrial tasks, these are delicate mechanisms. They do not hold up compared with a steam hammer, and their versatility of tasks (which is limited but still very impressive for the time) wouldn't matter as much in a manufacturing setting, even a pre-fordist one.Keep in mind a hired hand with a shovel is 2 Silver, and these are 5 without any equipment. One of those units can do any action and carry a lot more, the puppet's advantage is it fears nothing because it knows nothing, and that's about it.
>>96403103Would the Satsuma really have that big population issues? Between the satsuma survivors and the local tribes defeated and annexed into the domain, they'd probably have enough for a feudal domain. Also, I don't think the Mu attacks them that much, if they wanted the Satsuma dead, they would have erradicated them much earlier, before they were established.>but also to fit into the Samurai LARPThey are not larping as samurai, they are samurai. Before the fall, the sastuma was gathering samurai that were not happy with the modernization, so a great chunk of their forces were traditional samurai. >and their versatility of tasks wouldn't matter as much in a manufacturing settingHow many early industrial tasks were just "hit the nail with the hammer" or "pull the lever when you hear the sound"? This would revolutionise early automation.
>>96403147Good point about the LARP. A better way of putting it might be their clinging to a faded way of life despite both the changed times and geography.>How many early industrial tasks were just "hit the nail with the hammer" or "pull the lever when you hear the sound"? This would revolutionise early automation. Before the advent of the manufacturing line in the early 1910s, manufacturing did not work this way. This is an era without conveyor belts and where interchangeable parts are limited to specific products like bikes and clocks.Workers didn't even generally work at a single task in this period. That's one of the reasons Ford's wages were so high, it was considered a harder job to do a single assembly task for an entire day rather than moving between stations as the final product was worked on.Something like digging a hole, scything wheat, or pounding a nail is a task these machines could work at, but again they lack the awareness to be more than a fancy (and weaker) portable trip hammer. And trip hammers have existed for 1000+ years.Would upping the unit cost to explain their rarity help? Alternatively we could just say that they will revolutionize the world, but only in XX years during the deluge.
>>96403009Perhaps, > A Satsuma/Japanese Expedition stumbled on a cache of half decommissioned Clockwork Scouts. The machines were in too bad a state to be rebuilt, but many individual parts could be reused. It was discovered midway in the salvaging process that the instruction rolls on these were defective and could not store the same degree of complexity of "behaviors" as any other Clockwork Automata. > Karakuri Labourers are currently limited in numbers, no Epigean power has figured out how to reproduce Clockwork Automata in its totality, so Japan/Satsuma's stable of automata is entirely built out of those recuperated out of the cache. > While not the labour revolution one could expect from the mass introduction of automation in a society, there *are* advantages to having access to a workforce that doesn't need to be fed, doesn't care about its living conditions and won't die to disease. Additionally, most Epigeans, nearly all that do not have some background in engineering or some other academics, find Clockwork Automata very unsettling. Gradual introduction is meant to acclimate the population for a (much anticipated) complete reverse engineering of the Clockwork Scout (they are nowhere near).>>96399247This might work better if you just have it be a Faction Special Rule like the Deepfolk's Development & Culture system (this may be what you are getting at anyways). Otherwise you have to plan for Expeditions that do not end up taking the Soldiers. Not that that would be too hard to do, but this would be simpler, I think?>>96398662>Is the cost alright? For the Ashigaru, I don't think its wrong in any way, I wouldn't put it higher than 4, even with the potential of unlocking Line Fire, the Reload will limit it in a way that the Brits aren't. >>96398700Is the part added to the Headdress rule correct? >>96403732I'm not sure about the cost, but lore-wise, maybe they are the ones working on the private states of the higher satsuma lords, and only they are allowed to make and own them. That way, they can be a sign of power and prestige, while also guaranteeing them that their most prized lands won't suffer the risk of revolt. >>96404212I like this explanation.>>96403732>clinging to a faded way of lifeI wouldn't put it that way, as the "Treaties of Reunion" pretty much allows the Satsuma (and the samurai who go there after the fall) to live their lives as they were before. Since Imperial Japan has no real means to impose their will to them, they are at no risk of being faded away.

>>96404792I mean, the one close to the Satsuma are the Mu colonies. The others at at the other side of the ocean, so that is their only worry. And the Satsuma do try to keep their distances from them as much as possible. From the wiki page:Oddly enough, the one point of contention between them, the issue of Hokkaido, has been reversed. The imperial government is now growing more and more interested in the reconquest of the island, [...] while the Satsuma are growing less and less interested in Hokkaido. Not only they are still expanding across the region and thus have no hurry to reclaim the island, but doing so would get them into direct conflict with New Mu, something that could put an end to the prosperity of the domain. Beating the occasional assault from New Mu saur rider clans is one thing, but having to fight an unified New Mu front is another entirely.
>>96404741>and I cannot find the description of the common special rules. Were are those?Main Rule Book, the version I'm working on has them at around page 20-21, but that's accounting for a few changes that will go on the next version.

I want Existentialist Attache merc option for sure. I was thinking of baking "Legt An!" into a leader, and/or having it as a Hero trait, this could be the place for that, or a place. Looking into getting hexagonal tiles cut out which I can then texture/paint as I please. A full battlemap would be around 271 by my calculations, but that does not account for different terrain types so bumping up to twice that might be a start for single-layer battles. It's a blessing my basing formula is just spackle and drybrushing instead of anything especially weird.I'm thinking that 35mm hexes would work well, they're large enough that structures would look miniaturized but not idiotic next to figures, while 28mm figures can stand reasonably close to each other despite potential base discrepancies (A lot of my 1 hex models are based on different sizes [Atlan is really bad about this because of all the repurposed stormcast] so I would like to account for that)Still thinking about how tall wall hexes should be. It's a tall order to capture all those sweeping pillars of the edits while still being able to grab the plastic.
>>96405598>Why aren't the common rules added on the units' profiles, btw? Most units have plenty of space remaining on their pages.Honestly, there was space on that section of the profile, and not much else to put there, there wasn't much more thought put into it. And while most profiles have very few special rules and plenty of real estate left on them (like picrel), some do not, and some special rules can get wordy. I've been cutting Walls out of gardening foam, just a bit over the height of my Immortals, and a smidge larger than the base of the models, so that I can put them on top to show them as Climbing. But for a physical game, I initially intend to play on a map without hexes, try out simply converting everything 1 hex = 1 inch, see if there is any issue that arise. > picrel> I had to embark on a year-long criminal enterprise to avenge my lord after he lost his shit and attacked some posh rich kid. >>96409130We could push the slight mirroring that Japan has with the USA if we make the Saur Samurai a leader reflect the Saur General. On the note of the Saur Samurai Leader, I think its a bit too much for its cost, even if you account for the Saur. Not insane OP, just very good, especially since at this Discipline you likely won't ever see him getting Dismounted. I would suggest removing the Headdress rule and keeping the LP action as it is. >>96408410Sure, do you have an idea for a niche he would fill in mechanically? > picrelThe autism goes on. Now with some bonus weird dick and ball visual artefact I can't get rid of on the bottom row. Surely, La Ombre did it.
>>96411410>I would suggest removing the Headdress rule and keeping the LP action as it is. Works for me. >>96409130I'd love to have Mushi in the game, but i don't think there is a good way to represent them, save maybe pick out one like the moving swamp and have it be an anomaly. I guess the Eloi are like Mushi. If you guys haven't read it, i highly recommend it. It has very Agarthan sensibilities, and it's set during a fictional Edo-Meiji fusion, so it's really perfect for this. It's episodic, so it's not like you have to get invested in it to check it out. Regardless of if there are Mushi are in the game, i'd like to have a Mushishi unit. I think it'd work best as a mercenary that could be recruited by Japan as Faction. Something to do with Anomalies.
>>96411410>Sure, do you have an idea for a niche he would fill in mechanically?I'm not really sure. Maybe less attack in exchange for evasion/movility? Maybe provokes enemies into focusing on him?
By the way, since we are adding the units to the wiki, I propose all units are added with (Unit) in the title, so as to differentiate them from lore pages.
>>96387310We still need to add more names to the world's geography.
>>96415409
>>96415409>>96416803I'll give it some thought, I'm trying to write up a story about Epigean diplomats vying for land concessions with a Deepfolk tribe to build up a railway, I'll pull some names out of my ass to give it more flesh. Trying to reason out why as many major factions as possible would bid is a bit of a challenge... >>96413089I was wondering under what section you'd be putting them, each of the faction's? Mercenaries don't seem to have one. I'm stuck setting up bags for an eventual TTS release atm, its taking a lot longer than I expected, but I should be able to upload on the workshop by the end of the weekend at most?
>>96419533If you mean where I'd put it in the box, I can add a spot for that. Give me a second.
>>96419533Done.
>>96419533That reminds me we could also add railways to the maps.
3 hours of uploading tokens later, I'm about 75% done. Gotta figure out the map itself, since the table is hard programmed in, I could easily load the maps as boards and have them in a bag, which you lay on top of the main table, but I expect there would be stupid physics happening because of it, TTS doesn't handle stacking very well. I assumed as well using the edits posted here was fine, let me know if it isn't, but they look great, it would be a waste not to include them. I don't see a reason so far I won't be able to include all the books in the module, including the world book, unless I hit some wall that's the intent. Once its done, I intend to add on some profile information in the token's description, as we currently do manually before each games, its not the full stat block, but it still takes some time to input. Profile cards would probably be very useful (especially since physical play is no longer a complete fantasy, printing cards and putting them in a sleeve would probably make Expedition recruiting at a glance very easy, as well as health/AP tracking...)
>>96423268>>96425148>>96425816These are great. First and last especially.
I'm continuing adding the units of the mercenary book to the wiki. I'm not adding the ones with text in red, though, since I assume they are incomplete. Also, the wiki template I made sometimes results in double columns on certain points, and I have no idea why. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if I should have gone with more filters to integrate the imaterii better, of if it works better as is.
>>96432585And there was a layer out of place. Knew that it couldn't be all right first try.
So, for Bayonets, were we saying you can still use them not Affixed, but like a Dagger? Or was it that you just don't get Reach? If it's the former, why ever take them, when a Dagger is free and a Sabre is constantly better? If it's the latter, why ever bother Affixing? Reach on one model isn't worth 1 AP. What if we gave "Affix Bayonets!" to all Colonial Leaders and make it cost either AP or LP, while having the Bayonet work like a Dagger while not Affixed?
Why did Napoleon do it, bros?
>>96432826>So, for Bayonets, were we saying you can still use them not Affixed, but like a Dagger? Or was it that you just don't get Reach? They just don't get Reach. At least I don't see a reason to call out to another profile when there's one there. >>96432826>Reach on one model isn't worth 1 AP.You may not have anything else to do with that AP. but, in ranked fights, having one second row that can attack is pretty good. >>96432826>What if we gave "Affix Bayonets!" to all Colonial Leaders and make it cost either AP or LPWe could spread something like it more, but giving it wholesale seems weird. One thing I consistently forget about are the new unarmed melee rules. Not that it would influence this case much, but it would warrant bringing Daggers more often, which in turn would make Bayonets seem more relevant. >>96371035Would this be meant as a Sponsor rule or something that can be unlocked only for some factions? >>96398686Anyone want to try their hand at Saigo?
>>96434862Personally I'd want for affixed bayonets to count as a spear rather than a dagger, but that's definitely something that would have to be tested.
>>96434862>Anyone want to try their hand at Saigo?I can give you a hearty maybe on that.Although, I did have some ideas for the mech I can get to. I think having work as a "Character enhancer" rather than a crewed vehicle might be cool and fitting for the faction. I can post the idea in depth later.
>>96434862>Would this be meant as a Sponsor rule or something that can be unlocked only for some factions? A Baltimore Guncotton Co. Sponsor might be fun as a sort of Mercenary Sponsor, but I was thinking of it as like just for fun "party mode" rules, or something for particular scenarios or campaigns. Like if someone wanted to make a scenario around fighting in a small cave or tunnel, they might use More Smoke and Slow Smoke to achieve a certain effect. You could have lots of different interesting games just from pitting various propellants against each other. I didn't come up with rules for Smokeless Powder and Gunsilk, but i guess the former would just be +1 or +2 Range, and Gunsilk just providing an exemption from all the other like rules. They're meant to be like conditional rules of sorts, but i feel weird calling them that. Scenario rules? Alternate Propellant Rules? they're not something i would expect to be used without some particular purpose.
Just to be clear, i don't mean the Gunsilk stuff super seriously.>>96434862>At least I don't see a reason to call out to another profile when there's one there.By "like a Dagger" I meant if the stat modifiers were also locked behind Affixing. >in ranked fights, having one second row that can attack is pretty good. That's a good point. You do end up in those often enough. But, in most other situations, you are better off not Affixing. The times when you have a model with a Bayonet and he has nothing better to do be Affix it seem very rare to me, and can only be considered because Affixing is more of a bonus than a goal due to un-Affixed Bayonets being good already.>Bayonets seem more relevant. It's Affixing them in particular i'd like to be more relevant. I think Bayonets as a whole as they are (which i had just forgotten temporally) are perfectly relevant. I actually think they're overall better than Sabres, seeing as they are how they are. My intent there was to have Affixing be more of a goal, so that they feel more like Bayonets and are closer to Sabres in value. The reason i say Bayonets are overall better than Sabres is because of the ranked fights, and that outside of those they are more or less equal in value. Also, Bayonet Training and rules that benefit Bayonets but not Sabres seems fairly common, while the same can't be said of Sabre Training and rules for only Sabres. So, you'll have a fair number of situations where Bayonets are overwhelmingly better, and only a few where Sabres are somewhat better. Most if the time you won't Affix, only normally doing so in ranked battles to gain an overwhelming advantage. All that to say, my intent there was to make Affixing more like a goal, and to make Sabres more consistently better than un-Affixed Bayonets.
>>96436430What about having Bayonet Training only kick in for Affixed Bayonets?>We could spread something like it more, but giving it wholesale seems weird. I worry that doing so much with Bayonets as good as they are now would make them too good. So, I agree. Probably even if we went with my first idea it would be better to at least limit it to just Soldier Leaders.
>>96405267Something like this. I don't have them all quite worked out. Traits i always find troublesome, and without having played a normal list they become real bitches. I just don't want to further delay clarifying my intent, so I'm posting these two now anyway, and the rule for Imperial Soldiers. Tokyo and Osore will be different. Even if you don’t take Imperial Soldiers, if your Hero has Soldier he can still benefit from these Traits. On a Hero, Osaka isn’t as good as the other two, but i think that’s fine, and maybe could be remedied. I plan there to be a way to allow units other than Imperial Soldier to take Faction Traits. Sendai seems better on Heroes, and Kumamoto seems okay either way.Sendai Chindai: Soldiers with this rule gain Skirmisher while Elevated and Climbing Gear. (2 Silver)Osaka Chindai: Soldiers with this rule may equip Muratas, or if they may already do so, gain Murata Training. (1 Silver)Kumamoto Chindai: Soldiers with this rule gain Dogged. (1 Silver)
>>96436802I'm not sure if i want Tokyo Chindai to make Imperial Guard lose Elite, or to only effect Heroes that take it. If we went with it only effecting Heroes, then some Leader that allows you to take Imperial Guard as without Elite but requires them to be on Saurs could be cool. I can even think of some good lore ideas to go with that. Maybe that would be better as a Hero Trait rather than a dedicated leader. If we go with it only effecting Heroes, then I'd have less of an idea of what i'd want it to be, but i still like the idea for the Hero Trait ideas it opens up and for role play reasons. I like the idea of some Imperial Guard officer getting promoted or otherwise sent to Agartha, then he has to overcome whatever flaw got him sent down there with the help of the bumpkin soldiers he has to whip into shape, all without falling to the deep. I guess that same story could play out with a Leader, and if i can't think of a good way to represent that with a Trait, then it might as well. I do have an idea of what i’d like the generic, baseline leader to be like. I'll post that here in a minute.I guess a Tokyo Chinai that unlocks Imperial Guard and a separate Hero Trait to do with Saurs would be okay. But, maybe a dedicated 'Jinryu: Saur Brigade' unit would be better. Maybe dropping it would be best. I'll have to toy around with it before coming to a conclusion.

He has notably worse stats than the Commandante, but his special rules are a bit better, i think. Shosa is Major; Rikugun is Army. I guess you can tell, but i couldn't think of a name for his big rule. >>96444703>Crazy how one image and some text can completely define a faction.I think part of what elevated it from "weird screencap of some weird looking video game" to "mind-altering funny image" is the work that went into trimming the fat on the description and giving it that neat little background on the original chart. That's really E:AD in a microcosm, isn't it? >>96445096I think one of my favourite things about Hyperborea is how balls to the walls batshit it is. This is already a setting that pushes suspension of disbelief to breaking point, and then you have this Techno-Torture Pain Kingdom that has nothing whatsoever in common with anything else, and it yet it elevates the entire setting that much more. It shouldn't even belong, it's pure 70s/80s psychedelic cyberpunk in a firm Victorian sci-fi setting with a dash of esotericism, but it does and it's GLORIOUS
>>96444287>The quality of edits posted lately make doing this very fun.Thanks. Btw, does anyone have a clean image of the two legged fish from the charts?
>The small children stopped running across the jungle and turned back. The glittering monster shone with every color of the rainbow, burning down each of the small houses. What used to be a humble farming village now was pasture of unnatural fires, all while the monster advanced, unfeeling and uncaring, carving a path across the greenery. Its metallic legs stomped over the local church, finally repaired after last year’s floods had sunk its rook and taken its bell tower down. >A blinding light that was pure light quickly turned into a flamboyant array of colors, so wild and varied the kids had never suspected so many colors could exist. The darkening light of dusk made the flames a mystifying spectacle, dancing and spreading in from tree to tree despite the suffocating humidity, as if they had a mind of its own, hungering for all life they could consume. >The children were the only ones who had managed to flee the devastation, as their mother had not believed the local cacique that there was no danger and that the american forces would arrive in less than a week. Seeing that the cacique and his family had fled that same evening, the woman began preparing the children to move, but the horror had arrived much earlier, somehow avoiding detection, it seemed impossible for a thing as big and unwieldly to appear unnoticed, but it had done so nevertheless.
>>96446108>Now, a safe distance from the horror, the children watched and heard the flames devouring the only home they had ever known, and the screams of their townsfolk mixed with the hunting growl of the beasts that accompanied the three-legged monster, howling in as much rage and pain as their victims. >The older brother looked at his sibling, covered in mud and blood. They had escaped in their family’s old mule, but it had been ambushed and attacked by a creature. A caricature of a human being, twisted by whatever horror now besieged their home, it clawed at the animal’s throat and made it fall, bleeding and whining into the ground. They had fallen into the ground and had to run on foot for their lives while the freak ate the mule alive. The older brother had twisted his ankle, which began to swell, and his younger sibling had hit his face, and could not see from his left eye anymore.>An hour passed, both brothers simply stared in shock at the three-legged machine that razed their village. Once nothing remained standing, the horror turned slowly, with an unearthly shriek of victory, and the young men knew that the thing had spotted them. The older brother ordered his brother to run without him, as his leg had stopped responding properly a while ago, and he couldn’t trek the long journey into the jungle. His younger sibling cried, begged and threatened with the worst curses he knew, but even the young child knew that it was impossible. As a last ditch effort, he offered to stay with him, but the older brother berated him and ordered to flee, swearing in the name of God and their mother that he would live.>With tears flooding both of them, they embraced each other, and the younger sibling began running into the canopy, not stopping to look at his brother one last time, least he could not find the strength to do so if he saw his brother one last time.
>>96446114>Finally alone, the older child just stood still while the demon toddled across the remains of the jungle, moved into position and shone a white light into him, defiantly glaring at the monster until the very end.

>>96450627I've been looking into metal covers lately, and while they have a lot of barbarians and amazons, they are too valkyrie-like or high-fantasy for the setting's aesthetics (at least for what I try to edit). I have managed to find a couple that I could use, though, but I still prefer the old try and tested sword and sorcery artists for this. Also, no dinosaurs in metal covers, kind of surprised I haven't managed to find at least a single decent one.
>>96450685Slough Feg's Atavism could work. There don't seem to be many high quality versions of the cover around unfortunately.Other than that I would recommend Tyr's Album Valkyrja cover (I know you said too many Valkyries, but this one has no wings or horns, just robes and a spear) and Blind Guardian's Nightfall in Middle Earth album cover.I'll see what else I can think of too.
It's been far too long. The deadlines I set for the completion of the audio-drama were not exactly realistic, given that I had to manage a cross-country move in the middle of it. Have a new episode. Should be up on the channel by the morning. Although, I am now in 2eanon's timezone, so perhaps scheduling playtest games will be a bit easier. The hardcover novels were shipped to my old address, and thankfully a neighbor has posted them to me. They are real, and negotiations with a publishing house are ongoing regarding distribution. Napoleon lays bare the Prince's delusions regarding the inner earth, and eventually, after much tribulation, the Prince learns to accept that he will not learn all the secrets that the depths have to offer. Having L'Ombre remain 'anonymous', was the reasoning behind always placing Willy facing away from him, with Nappy's hands on his shoulders. Such a thing would probably require AI to render. That being said, the edit looks good.

>>96398357I've been advocating for scrapping the Mu invasion (a Mu raid could work maybe). Like why are we even adding the empire of Japan into the game if we're going to cripple it and make it sit on the cuck island instead of doing their rapid modernization and shit. But I don't like anything you propose in place of Satsuma, because of how severely it lacks with the same kind of pizzas as a bunch of angry amurais getting Isekaied into Agartha like an anime parody of Paris and because it creates the messy Franco-Italian-Japanese overlap.Satsuma, while it's kinda tight on the timeline, has the samurai aesthetic going for it and I kinda liked the idea of the Empire reconciling with them by letting them have their autonomous frontier samurai paradise underground. But if you do want to scrap Satsuma and just give Japan an entrance - fine, but if you insist on keeping things simple, why not just give them one damn entrance and call it a day?>>96399094>One thing I really do not want to erase from the game is the possibility of Agartha spilling forth on the Surface howeverAgartha already did a shitton of spilling, that was my point. And every instance of it except for Mu has something going for it that makes it worth it in my eyes. Lemurian India works. skeleton Ottomans have to kinda warp reality around themselves but they work aesthetically/thematically, HyperTaiping is laying it on a bit thick, but even it has some redeeming quality. Mu Hokkaido is just lolrandum. Like, all of the ideas are lolrandum initially, but I just don't see the "potential" (meet the potential lore, jpg) that some people insist it has. Even Mu Hawaii that I don't particularly like, still has a kind of vibe to it.
>>96457349I still don't see the issue with the Mu takeover of Hokkaido. The thing is, Japan would struggle with keeping control over the island after a successful Mu raid, at the time of the attack Hokkaido was not that well settled by Japan anyway, and something like this could make the ainu move closer to New Mu, even if only a handful of tribes do so. And if it's an attack small enough to allow Japan to keep their control, it could led to a "Long March to New Mu" situation, but much bigger, and I don’t think Japan would have the resources to a full on invasion of the underground (plus would clash with the satsuma lore, and besides, it would be somewhat redundant). But if Japan loses the island to New Mu/ainu coalition, that could motivate them further to modernize, to one day retake their island and defend it from the New Mu (while at the same time creating a dilema with the Satsuma, who don't want to attack the Mu because they are still settling in). >Mu Hokkaido is just lolrandum. Like, all of the ideas are lolrandum initially, but I just don't see the "potential"So if we could somehow fit together the Mu with Hokkaido somehow, would that solve the issue?
Watched The Time Machine (2002) this evening while painting.Pretty good film. Their version of Morlocks are what we could consider Neanderthals, or maybe devolved deepfolks. Is there a clear divide? Lot of rough patches and points where it feels like they jumped ahead a few scenes, but I liked the time travel effects.Did we ever get any version of the Eloi rules put down in a book?
