Check out here for useful links and a catalogue of relevant miniatures retailers:

I'm working on compiling all the RT relevant articles from WD into one document. I'll figure out a way to share it here once I'm done.
>>
Totally dumb, but after some research I managed to find a grotty scan of the first Games Workshop commissioned novel.
After some classic GW fuckery, it got scrubbed of Warhammer references and published as "A Spell of Empire" by Orbit.
I first read about it in this rescued Stephen Baxter article on
https://pariedolia.weebly.com/nimh/oldhammer-lit-101
Which has some great insights into early GW if you are into that sort of thing.
Sill no luck finding scans of the original editions of Ignorant Armies or the Ian Watson books. Would love to see more of the illustrations.

same go file as last thread:

where can I find the books that have stats of various neutral or unaligned battlefield threats? Things like automated defense systems and planetary flora and fauna. I saw a few of em posted from older warhammer rulebooks I don’t know which ones they came from.
>>
>>96410453

IIRC the original RT rulebook has some of that.

my dark eldar sprues arrived today
>>
>>96411355
Cool! Are you the same anon that scored them dirt cheap in the last thread?
>>
>>96411223
thanks ill look into it
>>
>>96411643

yep. i got a seller offer as well so i might be able to get another ten for around the same price per mini

is there any demand for/existence of an industry of recasting these old sprues? seems a shame to let minis like this die out, especially with how fragile they seemingly are (although gw did rerelease them that one time I guess, although I don't know how much impact that had on supply)

We're all groggy, and that's perfectly fine, but what modern 40K thing do you like?
For me, it's Diocletian's descent into the throneroom.
>>
>>96410453
Rogue Trader like the other anon said, and the various creature feature articles from 3rd/4th.
>>
>>96411900
You might could find someone interested in scanning them. There's a bit of an underground for scans of oldhammer stuff.
>>
>>96412704
thanks ill look at it
>>
>>96412145
There's some cool moments in modern 40k, but honestly I feel like most of the lore has been wrong turn after wrong turn.

Writing out the HH in general I think was a bad call. It was better left as this mythical past. Knowing too much about big E and Primarchs ruins the mystique because you get to see them make stupid ass decisions that no one with their supposed capabilities would.

What do you guys think about black tree Dwarfs? They seem alright except a few of the slayers arms are too long
>>
>>96411355
These plastics were maligned at the time (or moreso when they were towards the end of their life cycle) but I think they're dope.

nice work lad

Much like Hasslefree Miniatures you have about a 10% chance of ever actually receiving your purchases.
>>
>>96415408
Have you ever ordered anything from Black Tree?
Not sure how much has changed post the July EOE Orbis takeover, but 6 month plus order times was too much for me.
>>
>>96415603
I ordered in 2022. It took 4 months to arrive. The prices have tripled since then though.
>>
>>96412145
The reason that's good though is because, frankly, it doesn't have anything to do with modern 40K. A person who doesn't follow the shitty nufluff could be reading that in a White Dwarf from the 90's and it wouldn't seem out of place. Modern 40K stuff is only good when it's completely indistinguishable from something that might have been written prior to 5th edition - the issue for me is I'm not willing to suffer through the endless, endless pages of nuslop to nuzzle out those few small nuggets of what used to be, and you can't even ask to be directed towards those and away from nuslop because the nuslop-gobblers will act like you've just suggested cooking and eating their newborn child and start screech-shitting at you. Easier to just not bother.

Managed to snag a complete dark millennium box for a cheap price. Should be arriving tomorrow morning, cant wait to play some actual 2nd edition on the tabletop for once.

>>
What should i choose for 4th edition cityfight or city of death and why?
>>
>>96419556
For now collecting. In the last 2 years I have collected pretty much all of the 2nd edition marines miniatures and lots of RT era plastic and metal marines. The plan is to build a Blood angels army, but it will wait for some future times where there will be a little bit more free time for hobby. Until then I occasionally grab some cool stuff and boxes for goodnprice. This one is one of these.
>>
>>96419212

I am quite big fan of numunda, I know some folk don't like it's aesthetic, but I quite like it's lore, I for example enjoy idea of new goliaths being unrelated to old ones, old ones being a house that went extinct and new ones took up the same name (something the books imply) and some old goliaths became new ones....

Also the silly stuff like plate armour wearing muscle bound dudes in a deeply religious area pretending to be almost lord of the rings style orcs. That feels proper RT idea.

Host it on catbox, mega, or gofile and share the link here. Gonna be a long bloody time before(if ever) we can share PDFs natively again. Looking forward to seeing your work complete, it'd be a nice resource to have, for sure!
>>96411355
This looks awesome, anon, very clean.
>>96412145
Honestly I've been so out of the loop, I think the most "modern" thing I liked was the Shield of Baal campaign expansions they did in 6th edition. Always thought it was a pretty cool narrative with Hive Fleet Leviathan threatening and invading the Baal system and targeting the Blood Angels out of unfathomable xenos spite and hatred. Not only did I buy the campaign books but I grabbed the novellas, too, but I seem to have misplaced them? I dunno where those ended up.

Silly little project, but I had horus kitbashed from old metal abandon in my collection, and though silly means aquired this mephiston originally without a face...so sculpted an ugly greenstuff mug, bought some metal wings and bam, Sanginius in terrible style. Was fun to paint and it's a nice bit of metal overall. Not pretty face, I admit, but it..works on table top. Couldn't replace thet head since it's got the collar and OG owner filled off only half of the face off.

Trying to plan out an edition agnostic DKoK list.
My idea was a company command squad, two platoon command squads, six ten man infantry squads, a ten man grenadier squad aka storm trooper squad, and a handful of combat engineers aka veterans that I can use to make a squad or two of various sizes, and a bunch of heavy stubbers, mortar, and Lascannons teams, and a heavy weapon platoon command squad.
All this supported by three or six teams of artillery crewmen that can be used alongside various carriage drawn artillery, like thudd guns or earthshakers. Maybe a Macharius for armour support that's cool and lore friendly and isn't just another Leman Russ.
Thoughts? I dunno about the death riders, either ten or twenty of them?

Where are your Commisars Anon?
>>
>>96436061
No, I've posted here sometimes about my ambition to make a 40K collection based around the Third Armageddon War.
For commissars, I was thinking of just a handful that all my guard would share, so they wouldn't look like the DKoK commissars even tho they're awesome.
>>
>>96436061
>>96436261
Sorry I misread your post but yeah my plan is to have a pool of regiment agnostic commissars

"Rogue Trader era space marines meet something new -- a war troll carrying two space orks on its back. (Vince Pask cover art for Australian Realms magazine no 3, August 1988) This issue includes two articles with unofficial additions to 40K, the war troll and the Skaven, plus material for AD&D, Gamma World, and Rolemaster."

Decided to get off my arse and do some terrain making, first up is some GW kits I've had sitting in my room gathering dust. Making a shanty town bazaar for my idea of a frontier colony terrain set, kind of inspired by Rogue Traders Helsreach, I've even started writing some homebrew fluff for my little corner of the galaxy. I've got some scratch built stuff too, pre-fab and converted shipping container hab blocks and shops, as well as plans for some industrial buildings and shit. I've got a few little ideas for settlement factions and personalities for flavour, this has been some good fun on its own. I'm really looking forward to showing you guys more as I progress.

Nice grog haul from the toy soldier shop in Gettysburg. The citadel journal especially because it has the conversion of Last Stand at Glazer's Creek to 3rd ed rules (plus an epic rant from Jervis about how people who only play points values games are knuckle-dragging subhumans).

Played Mordheim this weekend, my squig ate my opponents troll. Hes gained the name Trollchompa but some reports say he exploded shortly after the battle while the boys were pillaging the battlefield for loot.
