Has Warhammer 40K changed YOUR life?
>>96423016My disgust over how it's degraded over the years has saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars by no longer purchasing their products.
yeah honestly>excuse to regularly spend time with friends and meet new people>hobby that produces something instead of mindlessly consuming things made by others>playing with friends has helped me tone down my competitive nature somewhat and be more fun to play games with in general>my wife says "oooh wow" when I show her my finished plastic army menthere's always stuff to get butthurt and hyperbolic over (like >>96423062 ) if you want to be butthurt but idk man I mostly play narrative / crusade with the lads now
>>96423095There is nothing hyperbolic about my comment. I've grown to have 40k as a game, due to it being awful, and GW as a company for their terrible price gouging. If it wasn't for both being awful, I might not have turned to Oathmark/Stargrave/TC/Turnip28, which would've resulted in my having a very different set of friends in life and very less money in my wallet.
>>96423016Made some 10+ year long friends in my LGS, one of them the owner who gave me a job which help paid for my university tuition. Ironically we kinda don't like GW in general from mostly a business perspective (they were very cut throat in 2000s~2010s along with WotC). Still like the old lore and occasionally play Death Watch RPG and WHFRP 2e & 3e. Didn't keep up with the new lore after closing the shop (it was before Primaris cameout IIRC).
>>96423016Well I've only been in the hobby for a year so it hasn't had that big an effect on my life. I guess it's a good pastime since I haven't been enjoying gaming as of lately
>>96423016When my parents divorced, my brother and I used to play DoW1 a whole lot. I guessed it helped a bit.
>>96423062This. >>96423095Shill.
>>96423062Absolutely this + making me more social (my disinterest in the IP and the shit prices made me actually touch grass and apply for a job)I ain't spending time, efforts and other shit for feed a bunch of retards overpricing 2 pieces of plastic so they can round up the money done with games and comics, let alone join the retardness of social medias over bullshit>>96423118This tooI've been disgusted with GW and what the hobby has become (mainly the former) that I just decided to seek other stuff to obsess over or even try to make my own schizophrenic setting and rules.
>>96423230Going to tell you this: just buy minis from anywhere else but GW, same for painting and tools. You will save hundred or thousand of money
It caused my to lose last bits of my self esteem.Turns out I'm a really shitty painter and quite a shitty player.
>>96423283Is because you didn't picked Deatg Guard/Orks, and dipped them in Nuln OilThat way no one can tell you that you are fucking awful at both
>>96423016I wonder what point that video tries to make.I'm not going to watch it though.
Well I've been hooked since I was like 11.Now I'm mostly an Oldhammer type and I'm kind of working my way into being friends with people who run small companies around Nottingham and such.
>>96423016Somehow helped me work through some weird self-sacrifice programing I picked up somewhere.
>>96423016In my adult life it has introduced me to a group of good people who have changed my life. None of us play warhammer anymore but we still hang out weekly. Got my first girlfriend there too. In all honesty it did change my life for the better.
>>96423016it made me hate myself more for being dogshit at the game
Kept my childhood friend group together despite all falling into different cliques as we grew older, also gave me a hobby that makes it easy to meet people whenever I move
>>96423016Yeah, absolutely. Been really into it ever since primary school and I've spent countless hours throught my life painting 40k minis, playing games, running 40k RPGs, playing 40k video games doing other hobby projects related to it etc. I mean, if I wasn't into 40k in particular I would certainly still be into different nerdy stuff, so it's not like my life would be drastically different, but it definitely is a non-insignificant part of it and I'm kinda glad for it. For all its flaws, I really dig the setting and it gave me lots of joy and inspiration
>>96423016Yeah, I will regret all the money I sank in that fucking garbage for the rest of my days.
>>96423016I guess technically since I had to go looking in a few more stores before I found people who were playing what I wanted to play instead of it. Makes my commute to the game store about ten minutes longer than it could have been.
>>96423274>or even try to make my own schizophrenic setting and rulesUtterly divine of you, king.
>>96423016It made me spend a lot of money, but other than that no.
>>96423095Five GW-bucks has been added to your account
>>96423016Of course. It made me fascist. Or so some internet guys say so
>>96423016I really hate this thinking>the hobby got me out of a dark place like numetal did for kids with very, very big heads (too big for most hats)The hobby should and can be therapeutic. Even shit painters like me can get in the zone and meet some nice people. But the hobby as therapy, ie "I'm a trainwreck, I killed so many kids in Iraq" (they went as a tourist in 2019), "I looked at my unpainted Republican Roman army, and the picture of my ex and the pills and just couldn't, man," I learned to keep this sort of person away. For about two years I listened to and helped with other hobbyists weird personal issues as well as their hobby ones. I really just wish I had all the time and money I spent on other people back. They won't even be decent to you for that price of entry sometimes. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.
>>96423016>The Man in the Broken Towerwhy do these basedchud essayists always pick the most pretentious nicknames imaginablegenuinely cringed
>>96431442Video essays are the documentaries of today grandpa, get with the times. Remove any pretense of cinematography on the savannah and just have some guy talk to you didactically about why Star Trek is a workplace drama for 2 hours. Otherwise you won't develop media literacy. No soundtrack, no primary sources. Best I can do is an AI generated image of a band in a studio, you remember those guys.
>>96431506what does any of your random rambling has to do with cringy nicknames
>>96431518You're right, he should have picked a credible one like Lindsay Ellis
>>96431538Well look where her channel ended up.
>>96431587She talked for two hours about how Yoko was hard done by and I almost believed her until she started ranting about how John was just muh sadboi genius artist and she had more talent. She's really a very dumb cunt
>>96431442Like breadtubers are any bette, literally dubbing themselves Destiny like some sort of pretentious fortune teller-cum-stripper
>>96423016It has taught me that anybody who actually plays Warhammer (40k or otherwise) tabletop miniature games are best avoided.Note that adjacent stuff like Bloodbowl, space hulk, etc are not indicative of a person to be avoided. Large scale battle and skirmish WH PLAYERS are the ones to avoid. Hell, even the people who just like buying and painting models or going full autistic over lore and novels are fine.100% of the big battle and skirmish players of GW stuff are the ones to avoid. Varying degrees of insanity or insufferably exist in them.
>>96438290>Large scale battle and skirmish WH PLAYERSwhat about us epic players anon?
>>96423062>stopped buying GW paints>stopped buying GW brushes >stopped buying GW tools>stopped buying GW booksstill buy models because i despise 3d printer troons more than GW.
>>96439555>stopped buying everything but the most egregiously expensive stuff
>>96439577ok brokie
>>96439577>most egregiously expensive stuffGW minis are overpriced, but at least they're genuinely of a high quality and plenty of detailAll of their other stuff is literally the same shit competition has, but 2-4 times more expensiveAnd before you say the minis are shit as well because you have to be a contrarian, that's a you problem and I don't give a fuck
>>96423016These games absolutely ruined my life. My rich uncle gifted me starter sets for 3.5 and 40K's Battle for Macragge when I was younger. Now I'm mid 30's, virgin, low level IT job that will probably be replaced by AI soon. Women at my work report me to HR for being creepy even though I'm trying to be super polite, never try to flirt or ask them out, and look at the floor instead of checking them out. Most of my friends moved on from games and are too busy with wives/kids to hang out so I feel like a ghost haunting the game store sometimes. It's hard to relate to competitive Zoomerhammer with symmetrical terrain and I'm probably too awkward for anyone to let me into a TTRPG at this point. One night I got mad so I destroyed some of my old 40K shit and then felt guilty to the point of tears because these figures were like my bros back in the day. Then I got sad again knowing that other people have emotions invested in shit that actually matters.
I don't know. I started 30 years ago.
>>96440225>reddit spacing>troon trecyeh that fits
>>96438024>Like breadtubers are any betterWhen did I even imply that??I wrote basedchud as in "a fucking nerd", not as a political orientation.
>>96442110>I used politically charged language>but like, I meant it apolitically!!!Yeah sure lil bro, we totally believe you.
>>96423118nah I just don't buy it when people use such strong language on 4chan lol, i think the influx of underages has contributed to a culture of over-emoting & histrionic language>my DIGUST over how it's DEGRADED and the AWFUL PRICE GOUGINGlike nah man who talks like thisalso, just buy chinese recasts lol who is spending MSRP on 40k in current day??>>96423249>>96430631Sorry to interrupt your group therapy session lol
>>96430626>draws the banned show better than humansArtists are sad creatures
>>96430626>Makes it a strong kick in the nuts seeing it's flanderization over the yearsXhe says, posting horsefucker content that contributed to 40K's downfall.
>>96443975>such strong languageIf any of that is strong language then you're just a thin-skinned faggot that would probably feel more at home on bluesky.
>>96445725no I talk to real people in real life and we call each other niggers all the time, stuff like what I quoted just makes anon come across as a spastic looking for attention
>>96439555>"I totally stopped being a shill">"But I'm still shilling them"
>>96423016Having your life changed by pop culture franchises, regardless of which one, means you're a weak faggot. You can ejoy them, no problem with that, but fuck off with that whole "dude, it's like totally super deep" bullshit.
