All these years later, and
>human
>male
>fighter
is still my go-to.
>>
>>96429422
I've come around to it over time. A disgraced king, a generic dad with a moustache armed with a crossbow, young edgelord with a cursed sword...
Doing your own spin on something everyone has some experience with is much nicer to play with in practice than a lizardfolk druid that the player and party have no idea how theyre supposed to be interacted with in-world. Unless everyone is always a male human fighter.
>>
>>96429422
Then why did you post a photo of an orc?
>>
>>96429422
Yet you posted a monster race. Hmmm....
>>
>>96429422
High level variant human battlemaster with a heavy crossbow has actually managed to be fun to play in 5e. Being able to shit out maneuvers at 400 feet of range brings a level of tactical depth and versatility that even outclasses casters in some cases.

That's clearly a redguard and not an orsimer, you goofs.
>>
It's been 5000 years and people still can't accept that orcs are just green humans.

Something something tolkien, wow, bla bla
>>
>>96429422
Yeah, I enjoy human male fighters from time to time.
Most times, because it's a
>fantasy (involving impossible/improbable aspects)
>roleplaying (involving deciding the character and behavior of someone who isn't oneself)
>game (structured set of rules to engaging challenges of skill and luck)
I like to play human female fighters too.

I especially enjoy playing fighters with supernatural powers, facing against larger beasts and monsters, or amassed armies, using various coordinated tactics depending on the kind of fighting style they have.

I like when fighter is more of an archetypical umbrella, and through the use of style/weapon modules and many skills, you can craft archetypes
>social + tank => marshal
>social + speed => swashbuckler
>unarmed combat => brawler
>stealthiness => skirmisher

Ugh!

unnecessary class
just make the ability to go berserk accesible (as if a feat of sorts) and have knights, fencers, and any fighter archetype go angry at will

yes, I am thinking I am lovin it

Classics exist for a reason. You might go out to a fancy place every once in a while, but at the end of the day your diet is still 80% burgers for a reason.
>>
>>96430464
They're being casually racist by referring to a black person as an orc, despite the fact that Tolkien (who invented orcs) clearly used them as an allegory for western white people who bought into nazi-style eugenics.

That part sounds like it's a GM failing. Although, I generally prefer to give an example or two of what each class/race combo could be in-universe whenever I show up with a homebrew setting.

Ridiculous headcanon.

Sure, Tolkien wasn't using orcs as a stand-in for niggers but neither were they that antifa fantasy you've invented for yourself. Don't be silly.

Read the books. Goblins were elves who had fallen from grace and abandonned peaceful pastoral living and enlightenment in favor of dank, squalid, industrialized living. Tolkein hated city life and thought it was a mistake. Orcs were advanced forms of goblins who built themselves up into superior examples of their kind, taking on traits he despised based on his time fighting the nazis in ww2.

Not head-cannon. Just knowing the material.

Barbarians being limited to their anger gimmick is modern 5e brainrot. It's not just about how they fight, it's who they are and what they represent. A proper barbarian is a wildling raised in some of the harshest conditions imaginable, who hates magic and mistrusts advanced civilization. You ditch armor and enchantments in favor of just being Built Different. Your rage isn't just anger, anyone can get angry – when you rage, you literally bend reality with how badass you are. It's almost like anime bullshit but for white people.

Classes as personality traits and religion were a mistake. A templar/crusader can easily fit with those descriptions and yet keep being a fighter.
>>
>>96435985
Hey, if you people didn't want people to associate orcs (and drow) with black people, maybe you shouldn't have pushed that narrative.
>>

>>

I think barbarians and knights should just be subclasses of fighter. All of them are fighting men without magic. Morever, I think they should have made a class call magic knight that encompasses paladins, dark knights and dragon knights etc
>>
>>96441386
everyone who specialize in the use of weapons without the aid of supernatural traits, whereas he is a tank clad in ful armor or a nimble duelist, shall be a fighter
they'll be another class if it draws features from other classes with different combat style, like magic or psionics
fighters who use magic are battlemages, those who use ki are samurais, and those who use pisonics are... mindbattlers?
>>
Why does a simple human male fighter thread cause so much butthurt and drama?

>>

Same brother.
Especially in DnD spaces where everyone is trying extra hard to be unique and special, it is someone who just plays the regular human male fighter that turns out to be the most unique out of them all.
Not sure if such a scenario or phenomenon has a term for it.

This but also when did the association start of Barbarians being berzerkers? It's really trite and shallow. I've always associated berzerkers with raiding cultures, not tribals.
Why? Because you can't build even a tribal society if all the warriors are berzerkers. This was always a specialized role for retarded and TBI warriors to do some damage and maybe not be a burden on the village anymore.
>>96436826
>Ridiculous headcanon
NTA but here's a sketch of an early orc complete with WWI-style stahlhelm. Tolkien was Ted Kacszinski-levels against industrialization.
>>96437989
NTA either, WWI was far more horrible as a war than WWII, Hollywood and TV shows aside.
>>
>>96448118
that is because creating a freakshit character is just a way to disguise the fact that you cannot create an actually interesting character. an interesting character is determined by his background and by the actions and roleplay that happen in-game, not by outlandish concepts (which usually are just gay people with horns and purple skin)
>>
>>96449105
>I'm not like the other PCs!

>>96441386
>a class call magic knight
In my shitbrew, humans with certain educations (ie. military academy, elite schools, certain temples) can multiclass.
Paladins are cavalier-clerics, a dark knight would be a cavalier-necromancer (mage) and dragon knights from the other hemisphere are maidens trained as aeronaut-mage or aeronaut-fighter.
While rare, this allows for both player and BBEG characters in these themes. It also provides very strict guidelines at the social level in-campaign and it's relatively easy to wash out of the attached organizations.
>>
>>96435985
Orcs were inspired by his fellow WW1 soldiers who had uncouth behaviour. basically your rowdy lads who talk about women's bums all day, get drunk at the pub, and cause trouble and vandalism. the closest modern day equivalent are football hooligans. their racism fluctuates on the number of goals Nbugu scores for their favourite team, and most of them can't even write the word eugenics.
>>
>>96449003
Stalhelms were in use since ww1 though
