>>96431984Yooh it's always a pleasure seeing these. Love this guy's work. They look so nice.
I need to buy a new respirator mask, any advices? I prefer models with no side cartridges.
>>96431984Treasure Island is almost done. I've got maybe 5-6 good sittings and I'm calling it finished.
>>96431984Aawww sweet, I made the banner! Thanks!>>96432046Thank you very much! I think one of the best parts about mini painting is when someone picks it up to take a closer look at.
>>96432455This is really turning out fantastic, how long did it take you so far?
I bought a new pot of candy red since my old one got gummy but even then this is so large it was pushing what I could do with it. Medium flat brushes really saved me a couple times.
>>96432941I really liked this kit. It's a lot of pieces but the sprue is super organized so everything is right next to each other.
>>96432455That's coming along really well! I especially like the plaid and the bandana, do you have any tips for painting stripes on curved cloth? E.g. pants with a bent knee, folded shirts
>>96432455This looks great. The parrot looks off to me though. Like there's no life in those eyes while the two characters look very alive.
>>96432941Looks delicious.
>>96432770Currently around 3 months of painting, I would guess 150+ hours so far. >>96433100I first paint the base cloth fully. Then you draw the basic shapes and add highlights, after which you finally shade it all together with a mix of purple and black, very thin. >>96433144It's not completely done as of now, but also my experience painting parrots isn't massive. I will revisit and add more textures etc.
>>96432669These are Knightmare miniatures, right?I've been thinking about getting some. How satisfied were you with them?
>>96432941Red gives a nice hotrod vibe but you should have used oils like people suggested for those vents, or carefully glazed acrylic layers. Those look like acrylic wash stains.
Is there a good 3rd party bit/3d stl for a chaos backpack like the dark apostle?
>>96432941>>96433049Saved for inspirationWhat's your red recipe?
>>96432941>Medium flat brushesHow do you effectively use flat brushes? Any time I've tried the bristles end up bunching together and the paint just doesn't flow well off the bristles.
>>96432455Oh thats the stuff, that original greenish yellow undercoat really helped to tie everything together, and the distressed leather and cloth are fantastic.
Is there going to be a WIP Secret Santa this year?
>>96434806I sure hope so, I participated for the first time last year and it was a lot of fun
Kind of unrelated but I don't know where else to ask. I wanted to buy some hobby stuff from a US based shop on etsy in the next days/weeks.As an euro, am I going to have to pay some fixed tariff?
>>96434828Hopefully SS Anon is around or checks in with usI can give it a shot, I do like Excel a lot so it'd be neat to match people. But it'd be a lot to track and SS probably has a system down.
>>96434955Tariffs are into the US unless your country has retaliatory tariffs AND that seller is charging you for them.A lot of non-US people have been eating the tariff costs to maintain business in the US but with the latest change many are no longer willing to. Hell, like 20 companies no longer ship postal to the US now
>>96434955As a Euro you have better shopping options local to your continent
>>96434806>>96434828We will do it again, if enough people sign up. But it's not time yet.
>>96435038There are some items on Etsy that you can only get from over the Atlantic sadly.
>>96434020It's just fulgrite copper wased agrax under tamiya clear red. Tamiya does all the work, all you need to do is apply it evenly and let it dry and watch the corners.>>96433564I simply don't have oils. Perhaps a heavier stipple would have been more noticable.

are there any good viking STL/bits for kitbashing space wolves?I'm trying to lean into chainmail, boe helmets etc.

>>96435960Try and search Primal Hounds bits on Etsy or wherever.
i was the anon last thread how to start, i have painted one boi. still find it stressful but atleast the first attempt has been made.
Put together this elevated artillery battery this afternoon from concept to finished assembly. Turned out pretty good I think. Another dollar store build.
>>96436387Not bad anon, better than my first for sure. Stick with it. You should check out Vince venturella on YouTube, he has a series called hobby cheating and it elevated my painting dramatically in a matter of a single day. A lot of people don't like Vince for various reasons but I don't really give a shit about any of that, personally. He's a good teacher and that's how I engage with his videos and the hobby in general. It's about the knowledge and not the person dispensing it for me.
>>96434806>>96434978>Is there going to be a WIP Secret Santa this year?Santa-anon and I talked about this. The answer is "yes". It's just not, as >>96435091 (who may very well *be* Santa-anon) pointed out, time for sign-ups yet.>>96434955The problem is not with a tariff, as I'd suspect your country probably already charges some equivalent of import duty on things from other countries, but rather that your country might be suspending mail service from the US altogether right now - I know France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Italy, and the UK are doing this, and there are doubtless several others represented here at WIP.
>>96436553>The answer is "yes"
This background is much better for black photos, this one is much better, for a phone pic anyway.
>>96436779I recognize now that I had a stroke while writing that sentence.
>>96436779I like your blue tone
I think its done! the last thing I want to do is cut decals from vehicle names so it can be named Ameno like the Era song.
>>96431984Can I get some advice here WIP?I've come across Turbo Dork Metallic paints and I plan on getting the black ice (black metallic), pearly gates (white metallic) and sparkle motion seems to be an "ivory metallic."I remember a while ago reading somewhere that ivory paint can be better than white sometimes to brighten the color of a paint. Would this apply the same for an ivory metallic brightening up a metallic paint?I already have a metallic medium for turning colored paints into colored metallic paints.
>>96437432I would love to give you an answer, but you might have to experiment on this one. The ivory is probably more about it being not an awful white pigment and desaturating less, which I'm not sure matters as much with metallics, but I'm not sure on that one.
>>96437506Fair enough. I just wanted clarification if the ivory to lighten coloured rule applies to metallic paints as well.
Evening lads, just wanna check I’ve got this correct before I glue - I’m new to this. I’m building 5x black Templar initiates 2x will hold a power fist3x will hold a chain sword 5x will hold a heavy bolt pistol in their off handAll 5x have a close combat weapon glued to their leg All 5x have a standard bolt pistol glued to their leg Is this correct it just seems odd and when I try to adjust the weapons in the 40K app it only says good to go if all 5 initiates have all of those weapons…Appreciate any insight anyone has
>>96438236You're talking about army or squad building. I think this would be better asked in /40kg/. Just know that it is a mess down there. Do you have a list of paints to paint those Black Templars? I don't have the link, but I think someone can link you Stahly's paint PDF so you can find close enough approximates if you like to avoid Citadel paints.
>>96438248I don’t have a list but I watched that really popular YouTube painting tutorial guy, made a list of every brush and paint. Ordered those and I’ll follow along. Just gonna practice his method over and over again one model at a time. I also bought the warsuit so I’ll paint that at some point. I just don’t wanna go and glue and find out my marines have too many weapons, seems odd the model would hold a heavy bolt pistol and also have a standard one on its hip. Kinda confused.
>>96436943
>>96436943solid job, mate!
painted a Blood Bowl 7 Drow (Dark Elves) team.
>>96438302Very nice job anon! What paints did you use for the hair and skin tones?
Anyone got that fucked up face collage
>>96438236you don't need the extra pistol and cc weapon on them, it's kind of weird that they still have them in the profile and those templars have their main weapons chained to their hands so they can't holster and draw secondaries anyway. no one will complain if you leave stuff like that off for aesthetics.
>>96438310thx. It's black, mixed with neutral grey and sky grey (Vallejo)
Sorry if this is retarded but could you use metallics with an eye towards going nmm? Here is my thought process>drybrush on a rough blend from your shadow color to your darkest metallic>highlight your next brighter metallic>you now have a passable mini for using on the tabletop>later you can go back, and continue adding highlights and blends with metallics until you hit white>add a matte glaze overtop to kill the glitter of the true metallicThis would let you get minis looking alright on the tabletop sooner and metallics tend to blend a lot quicker and easier than other paints.
>>96438316
>>96438537>mad world.mp3
>>96438494The retarded assumption you've made is that a scruffy nmm approach is going to somehow look better than shaded true metallics. If you want to do nmm just block in the proper light, dark and mid for your passable tabletop model.
>>96435484Grass is always greener on the other side i guess.
>>96435960Check Dakkadakka (stormbringers) and Grey Tide (primal hounds) on MMF. The catalogue there is nice to browse than etsy. If you like some stuff, you can look for it specifically on etsy if you dont have a printer yourself. Here is another:https://www.myminifactory.com/users/wargamesprint?show=store&categories=3959Looking for space vikings or viking wolves gives you some other results too.
>started painting a tank for a painting comp this weekend>due mid october>progress feels incredibly slow, not sure if I'll be able to accomplish what I wanted to in time>doesn't help that I can't turn down any overtime that comes my way, not in a great financial spot>the other unit I was considering was a terminator squad w/ bannerman>if I decide to switch streams it has to be very soon

>>96439295post a picture, I'm curious
>>96438236The initiates just need the chainsword/powerfist and the heavy bolt pistol on. I don't know what that app is going about, you can safely ignore that.
>>96439306I took a shower, I basically threw a large glob of paint right in the air, some of it ended up back in the pot/around the lid but the majority landed on my arm/legs/bit on my faceFortunately it was less than half full
>>96439345It's accurate to the unit rules as written. Weird but it's been like this for 2 codexes in a row now.
>>96439910Yeah that makes sense, the app just takes into consideration the bolt rifle replaced by the heavy pistol and the chainsword, and still keeps the knife and bolt pistol as the baseline marine equipment although they will never be shown nor used.
>>96439932They can fire both pistols at once. Its weird they haven't changed it in-line with basically every other chainsword marine (like the templar sword brethren) but it's a valid loadout with in-game effects.
>>96439295Reminds me how I once attempted to shake Vallejo "dead white" bottle without realising it was missing a lid. Obviously produced less mess than GSW bottle would but few drops landed directly on face of one anime plastic girl I was building week before. You can imagine how it looked like.
>>96436943way too much OSL and that background is terrible for taking photos.Take a picture with a white or black background.
my first mini painted after over a decade, pls be gentle
>>96440590
>>96440590Turning my head is annoying, but it looks like you stayed in the lines but it's kind of bland with it being 90% black robesYou can make the hat a different color which make it more interesting to look at
My first ever mini what do u think? some tips or sugestions would be nice
>>96440432You should have left it. Or added to it.
>>96440612im a stupid phone poster so I forgot to edit the image. I choose him because he's supposed to be all black and I wanted an easy first mini to paint. Here's his example image on the Flintloque website.
>>96440659
>>96440659I always send pictures to myself in Discord and crop and post from my PC.I'm curious about what caused what looks like texture. It doesn't look like your paint was too thick, so I'm guessing a poor prime. But it's hard to tell. Definitely add highlights tho. Since it's pure black you could highlight most of it in a dark grey, then go light grey for the extremes.
>>96440634Considerably better than my first attempt, well done.
>>96440682I think a lot of it is the camera, it doesn't look as rough irl. I'm think I prime it a little too light though. This is my first time using speed paints
>>96433380Thanks, I've never used purple as a glaze for cloth! I was talking more about having the stripe follow the curve or fold naturally though, but that's a good glaze idea
>>96433438The majority of them are, yeah. I'm very satisfied with them, good sculpts and decent customer service. They have a hobgoblin mongol-esqe warband that I'm going to get next I think.Creative sculpt studio also has some scrubgly sculpts but he's more of an artist than a businessman desu.I would take a quick look at old-school miniatures soon, he's retiring some chaos lines and they're dirt cheap atm
>>96440634Looks unironically great for a first mini.I'd look into maybe giving the shadows a bit more depth, ex on the mace head and between different areas like the tassets and the clothThen it's just minimal stuff like some strategic highlights, maybe some more focus on the little details like the belt etc
Continued progress on the wyvern, going to do the rider next I think
>>96440634For a first attempt, it's really good! I would try to add a bit more depth on the cloth (washes and highlights) - watch a couple of videos for help.
>>96440634You clearly did your mini painting homework and it shows. Good job anon! I hope you had fun.>some tips or sugestions would be niceMaybe water down some orange brown paint to a milky consistency to resemble rust on the silver part of the mace when dried after application?Video example: https://youtu.be/dvlvzXaEmso?t=570
>>96434158These are the ones I use most often. The small one there had a lot of fraying and I had to trim a lot of it. The others I just paint with normally. I haven't had any bunching and once they're wetted the bristles even out and the paint gets dragged out smooth.
>>96432941That red is lovely>>96436387This is pretty good anon. Try to practice staying "in lines" next time, you got a bit of overspill on his belt.>>96438302Very nice! I especially like the skin>>96439112I don't know anything about sculpting but this is already starting to look good.>>96440590You picked a pretty simple mini which I think is good for some practice after a break this long. Everything is "in lines" as far as I can see and that's always nice. I can't tell how much of the shading you actually painted and how much is because of the lighting though. Overally a decent start, keep at it!>>96440634If this is really your first mini that is unironically very impressive. It takes people a while to even try to attempt blends(even if it's done with contrast-like paints) and you got it pretty damn clean right off the bat. Same with the eye glow, more experienced people can struggle with that and yours looks good. The verdigris is a nice touch too. Great job, honestly.>>96441123Gonna try asking again - where is that mini from? I really like it
>>96441371Sorry! I posted and crawled back into my cave last time. It's an Orc Warboss on Wyvern from Warhammer Fantasy. Very old model, I've had it since 2011.
In a previous thread someone shared a website that sells really cheap miniatures which are helpful when first learning to paint to get practice. Can anyone link it again
Does this look good? I'm not happy with the coat color yet
>>96441509
How are Pro Acryl's fair skin paints? >>96441509>>96441512Looks fine to me, anon. Noticed a few dust particles on the miniatures though. Got a big brush to dust off the mini so that dust doesn't get trapped under a thin coat of paint?>>96441486Are you referring to EM4 miniatures?
This is the plasticard I just got in the mail for making tiled based. This shit is extremely hard to cut. My hobby knife will only make superficial cuts and I'd never get through it all the way. I had to use tin cutters to be able to get through it easily. Even a pair of wire cutters didn't cut all the way through. How am I supposed to use this when I need heavy equipment to even cut out the piece I need? I have no idea how I'm going to be able to carve in the grooves for the tile look.
>>964418861.5 is pretty thicc. That said, if you don't have any dedicated equipment (like DSPIAE cutter), you should be cutting plasticard by using (ideally metal) ruler and then doing multiple shallow cuts on the same spot. It usually takes ~three cuts before you can just snap it cleanly away.
>>96441923I had thought about getting the 1mm, but after seeing how hard it is to cut with just a hobby knife I'm wishing I went with 0.5mm.I suppose to make the gouges I can use my hand saw I just got. Making this one base did just get way more annoying than I thought it would be.
Is 0.38mm needle size a good needle size for basecoats and detail work if I just switch the air cap to a wider one?Or if I just want to use an airbrush for basecoats it is just 0.5mm all the way?
>>96441886>>96441923that's not how cutting platicard worksyou score the line a few times depending on thickness and you bend it until it snaps, non straight cuts are harder buy doable by chunks in the same manner, for smaller random shapes you can use a jeweler style saw>https://youtu.be/HMxHTeIGD84?feature=shared&t=33also abs is not 'polystyrene' and might not break as cleanly, that product description is lying to you, i'm pretty sure abs is cheaper and that's why they sell a lot of sheets of that for hobbying now and try to gaslight youhowever if you want the thickness to make slabs or something like that look for 'foamed pvc' sheets, those are soft enough to be cut A LOT more easily and you can imprint textures on it by just pressing on it or scraping to make wood grain, picrel is mostly that
>>96442002Nah anon, you just need a sharp/fresh hobby knife and a (metal) ruler. It's easy to cut plasticard, even 1.5mm (and thicker), but it needs a little bit of patience. I do it regularly. You can check Offbeat Builds on youtube, he does some pretty magical things with plasticard and shows most of the important parts of the process. That said, if you wanted to use plasticard as some kind of cobblestone or something similar, it might be easier to cut it into smaller pieces and then layer it, rather than carving.
>>96442087>that's not how cutting platicard works>proceeds to repeat the same thing I said
>>96441430Thanks and no worries I figured you must've missed my post.
>>96442102i didn't mean to contradict you just to add to the conversation
>>96441430>Very old model, I've had it since 2011.>most of my models are pre-2000now I feel very old
>>96440464Torches are bright and I want my huge plumes of fire to act as huge plumes of fire. That one is just subjective. background is true though.>>96438292Thank you!
>>96441509The color is fine, but I think you're lacking definition and shading on it.>>96441123Nice. The skin and base look good. You could always differentiate the scales a little by making them a bit darker or a deeper shade of blue. also the bone spines on the wings, the big ones at least you should probably blend the ivory brown into each other with the sharp lines (idk how to describe it properly but you know what I mean), or just the way you did it on his horns.>>96440634Nice start. some basic improvements, I would say add some edge highlights (not full outlining everything, but little bits of untarnished bronze dotted around any angular shapes on the armor and here and there, and on the rivets. Stuff like that.I see what you were going for with the 'dark red into red' look for the red, but it looks a little strange on the plume of the helmet,, The top of the plume where it bends over should really be a little bit brighter, some of the brighter red just highlighted along the hairs only right on the top of that bend, and then maybe an even brighter red just on the upward bending parts closer to the tips if you want to keep that gradient well defined.I would also put a a brighter dot of very pale pastel green right in the middle of your glowy areas.Oh, also the belt buckle isn't painted. It's pretty good though.
>>96442087>>96442088Thanks anons. I might look into that softer stuff if I plan on doing more bases like this.I ended up making due with my hobby saw that I'm now really glad I recently bought. Drew straight lines with a micron pen, scored it with my knife, and then dragged the saw across 7 times for each line. I got it mostly to size and shape with the base, but it's good enough. I can't be fucked sanding it down to flush. At least not today.I'm gonna make a blood splash out of the cup with some resin too. Now I just need to decide what material to make the floor tiles. Not Marble.
another grogdar painted mostly over a short evening sessionwent for red ink airbrushed over a zenithal prime this time to see how it came out
>>96441371thanks friend anon, showed it to my firend last night and they pointed that out and i beleave i fixed it.
>>96442615Looking good. Btw anon, you can soften the plasticard with plastic cement and stipple a nice texture onto it with something like an old stiff brush. This technique is especially great for coarse things, like cast iron/steel or stone. Stipple the texture, then sand it very gently to make it look more natural and it does absolute wonders when painted.
>>96442732I tested my glue on a piece just to make sure it was even the material as advertised. I though I was gonna have to soften it and then cut it for a minute. But that texture method sounds interesting. I'll try that if I want to go for a more worn or natural material.I managed to grout the tiles with some thinned vallejo texture paste. That really fine sand worked better than I thought it would desu. Now I just need to decide if there's anything I want to put in front of where she'll be standing or leave it as is before I go prime it.
First time posting here, I’ve always enjoyed checking out your works anons.I'm at my 4th mini, tried some stuff and learned a lot. I rushed my white and didn’t thin my paint enough and got fucked later on.Also fucked up my white while trying to practice OSL for the first time, so there is a lot of white particles around some parts...Anyway, I will do better next time.
>>96442767Good shit, sounds you have it under control.Anyway, if you plan on doing more cobblestone in the future, you might like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQkWP3aIQ-Y
>>96442767
>>96442767>it was even the material as advertisedplastic cement works on abs too, maybe not as easily but it doesit won't work for the pvc thoalso from experience, unless you want them to look brand new or like inside flooring, tiles look better if you make each tile individually and glue them together later, the uneveness gives them character, also its easier to wear and tear them that way
>>96442866In this instance it's supposed to be a fairly wept kept vampire's castle, so this is what I was going for. If I need to cut out individual tiles I'll have to bust out the tin snips again kek
why do paint makers just suck at making charts? what kind of benefit do they have from not advertising the correct color?
>>96443492You can't realistically advertise the accurate color so there's no point in bothering.
>>96442802>gamesworkshop bathroom floor immediately after tournament, colorized, 2025
>>96442774Every mini is progress and practice with brush control and learning how your paint behaves. Looking good, you're painting "in the lines" and your color choices work, keep up the good work and be sure to ask if you have questions.
Phew, he's done.
>>96443724silly good work.

Hello wip, today I offer freehand shields.
>>96443724Fingerlicking so good. You use true metallics on this right? But just with NMM methods I'm guessing. It's making me rethink dropping them to try and learn NMM if that's true.
>>96443760It's TMM but painted a bit like NMM? The brighter parts are highlighted with a brighter metallic
>>96443744Appreciated anon>>96443772Yeah those are metallics but with some more shading and highlighting. It's simpler than NMM but I like how it looks

>>96444317>hobby sawsOrdered from Tamiya
>>96444258Probably not. I use a similar trick to weight my bases by supergluing something heavy underneath (washers, pieces of pewter, or a huge mess of 2mm steel ball bearings) and then coming back later to seal the bottom with PVA glue.
>>96444381thank you, these work in any x-acto type holder or does Tamiya have a proprietary one?
These are my holes. They were made for me
>>96444700Did a round of painting on my little kitbashed flyer+pilot. Looks messier than I thought, in the photo....anyway, still have some more shading/highlight to do, so it'll be a good chance for cleanup. Do you think the flyer's too plain? Any idea on how to make it pop more? Don't really want to go for the rusty/grimy look, but I'm trying to make it look like it's well used/maintained.

What would be a good highlight paint for vallejo's Brassy Brass. A silver is too cold, gold is just a different colour.

Hey lads, the local GW is going to be hosting a painting competition, I'm not sure what to submit for the unit category, give me some opinions here. Option 1: some chosen.
>>96445282Option 2: other chosen.
>>96445285Option 3: terminators.
>>96445293Option 4: possessed.That's all, which one anons?
>>96445293Its gotta be the terminators man. Everyone fucks with terminaators
>>96445293these ones
>>96445293>>96445298Termies or possessed for me. The termies are clean and simple but I like the flesh, glow and bases of the possessed.
>>96445282>>96445293These are the most impressive. Good luck.
Been a while since I last posted. Progress is coming along nicely but I'm still undecided with what to do with the bases. Any recommendations?
>>96445403Goblin green. NOW.
>>96445403Have the red from the guns return, or use a neutral tone like brown or grey.
>>96445424No :^)>>96445460I did initially go for purple to contrast the green, but it detracted too much form the model. Neutral tone it is
>>96445582Yeah, you usually want the focus to stay on the model itself and use the base as a supporting feature.
>>96445282>>96445298For me it's either the first batch of chosen to show some variations, or the possessed, with more area and having both organic and armour together. Look at them again and decide which looks better painted in person (because I assume they won't be judged by picture).
I'm trying to channel BT anon with this.Respect for that dude's edge chipping skills.
>>96445282I've been a fan of your terminators, but the chosen might be more striking with the colors.
>>96445282Also voting for these lads.
I am a fan of the older style of>basecoat>wash>basecoat >highlight Who makes good washes these days? The last washes I used was gw’s from 2010 or so
>>96446174I like this one, it gives everything a nice and dirty look.
>>96446174I use army painter's dark tone or dark skin shade (a richer red brown for warm colours). Most brands are a bit thinner and less tinting than the old GW washes.
>>96446174I heard Vallejo's black and sepia ones in the game color range were a solid alternative to Citadel's.
>>96445282>>96445285>>96445293>>96445298Is there a reason why you would not submit them all? As far as the quality of the paintjob goes I would say the Chosen show off your skill the most due to their slight theme variation and various details. But also, and this is not your fault, the models are cluttered with shit, generally bad and a bit hard to look at and won't pop well. The same is true with the posessed. This is why you should go with the Terminators. They are far more readable and will be easily seen by both the judges and the audience.
Is the ashen skin with white armour a misguided choice?I need to glaze some more color back into the skin but I’m starting to worry it won’t be enough contrast.
>>96446941You'll have to add a lot of shading in the skin to make it stand out. I actually couldn't tell there was armor for a minute and though it was naked.Maybe it you add a bit of grey to the skin to make it look more like Kratos' skin and glaze some red/purple into the shadows it could help.
>>96445796Appreciate it, I think yours is coming together really nicely.I like the contrast of the silver weathering with the matte black, it's something I always wanted to do but since all my guys have the same semi gloss finish I'm sticking with that, but I think matte can give a much grittier (in a good way) look.In fact if you want some better inspo there's a painter that does weathered, matte black templars which are probably much better than mine- check out boo's builds on ig, his OSL game especially is awesome and makes me wish I wasn't so stubborn in not getting an airbrush. Here's the cousin of your swordbro anyway.>>96445282>>96446673I agree with this anon, I feel chosen have the most personality and showcase a more interesting skillset, but termies are a safer bet.
What’s a good type of brush if one wants to just use it for applying washes?
>>96447310Anything with a decent bit of body and not too pointy.
>>96447310synthetic size 1 is fine. you don't really need a separate brush.
>>96447330you do, because washes tend to ruin good brushes.
Assembled my first mini today, I guess it is a better choice to finish setting them all up before priming it right? I did not have a hobby knife, but had a small file so I tried to file away any of the excess. This is a fun hobby, I just need to find a way to store these dudes since my shelves are full of books.
>>96446673>Is there a reason why you would not submit them all?Max one entry per category.
>>96447503get a xacto knifeyou have to remove the mold lines too (you can use the file for that)extra points if you drill yo barrels
>>96447526Oh now I see what you mean, thanks Anon. What would you recommend to store these dudes too?
>>96447574some people here use steel boxes, boxes with steel plates or IKEA KVISSLE/HARVMATTA and put magnets on the bases of the dudesyou can also use generic foam suitcases like this>https://www.amazon.com/CASEMATIX-Shell-Miniature-Storage-Travel/dp/B086MGDYZLor this>https://www.amazon.com/-/es/Tools-Funda-r%C3%ADgida-impermeable-almacenamiento/dp/B0CKFHH599those are just first result examples but you get the idea, you can also buy just the pluckable foam and put in whichever box or drawer you want
>>96447503Until you get enough minis, you could store them inside tupperwares with foam or bubblewrap, it will be enough for a while.
>>96447574extra tip, if you have plastic cement, you can dab it after you sand a surface to smooth it a bit more if needed, just dab and let dry
>>96447378same as any other paint you'll fuck it up if you drown the brush and it soaks into the ferrule, by minimum good sense won't cause any problems.
>>96447822>all paints have the same capillarity
>>96447932you are rinsing your brush before paint dries, right?
Had to do a fumigation for bed bugs because my next door neighbor is literally the infamous chris-chan tier hoarder of the building, but i forgot a half-painted daemon prince on my hobby desk, how fucked by the leftover chemical film is it? Do I have to strip and prime again?
>>96448301If I recall correctly, everything left open after beg bugs chemical treatment have to be washed in warm water and soap to get rid of residual stuff. Maybe just warm water will be enough? Also, for the future, because I had to deal with bed bugs myself - chemical solutions are no longer favoured since these little fuckers gain resistance absurdly quickly so you need to repeat it with at least three different stuff to be sure. Now, most popular and safest option is to use just hot steam - it was proven (I even have scientific article about it) that temperature over around 50C kills both living bugs and their eggs and even casual steam cleaner device penetrate beds, carpets and the like with ease. Just a friendly tip.

>>96444317>How are you feeling about the zenithal prime on this compared to other methods you've tried?i kind of always go for a zen prime just because I have the airbrush at hand but don't always take advantage of it. in this case i had a can of hyrax brown i used as the base (i actually used this on the first of the kabalites i painted (the modern one)) and it seems to work pretty nicely as a base for a red ink sprayed onto the zen shading (i used some monument bright ivory as my airbrush white has been coming out a bit spotty)

>>96448586That looks like a really hard dungeon
>>96446174For acrylics, ProAcryl washes are very good but their colors are limited. They flow super well and have a lot of pigment in them. I also really like AK's DeepShades. I hate to sound like a broken record but if you love washes I would encourage you to try oils, you can get a big tube of Ivory Black and some white spirit/mineral spirits and go to town for very cheap.
I admit that I rushed this a little bit, but I really need to get better at smooth blends over large surfaces. I suck at drawing and sculpting fabric in 2d and 3d stuff too so maybe I should try actually learning how the shading on a cape like this works and then practice more deliberately.

What's with this trend of using these abysmally ugly colour schemes?People in the 90s have used very vibrant colours too, but they had much better sense for colour composition. Is it really just because of youtube morons praising colour theory and everyone simply tries to use it without really understanding it?

Simple quick answer: can you get someone to 3D print the part you need?I've cast metal models using a hot pot to melt casting metal (a mixture of tin, bismuth, and sometimes lead) and a two-part silicone mould, but this is a pretty big production if you want to do it correctly.Lately, there's been more talk of using resin or green stuff/milliput with "temporary" moulds made from Oyumaru or something similar. That, I have never had much luck with - but others have, and I bet you could find some tutorials on YT.>>96454906Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Sofia Vergara, Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day, and Jaret Reddick of Bowling for Soup all turn(ed) 53 this year.
I was painting some Mansions of Madness minis to find the coat was coming off in my fingers, directly down to the plastic. I probably wasn't thorough enough in my removal of the releasing agent is my current theory. These minis are a softer plastic than I'm used to. Unsure what kind. What might be best in terms of stripping these things and starting again from scratch? >>96455890You can use all the same stuff for painting but you need to be a little more careful when cleaning them, you'll probably want to wear a mask if you do any sanding or filing because inhaling resin dust can be really bad
>>96455890depending on procedence you may want to gently wash them with warm water and soap to remove possible mold release on them, ignore this if they are 3dprintedyou will need ca to glue them too, plastic cement doesn't workany primer works fine

>>96456622I started with this one - not the best but the guy presenting it is very clear and makes the steps look straightforward.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTFUrBgxkroBeware of bubbles, especially when casting small pieces. For my dragon's dorsal spines I had to lay the two halves of the mold out flat and cast each one separately, then dissect them out and glue the halves of each spine together. It was the only way I could think of to get them with the points intact. Hopefully other folks here may be more knowledgeable, cause this approach took f***ing forever... :)

Is army painter dark tone a good substitute for Nuln Oil in the thread's opinion? I'm running down to the end of my pot and apparently they fucked the formula in the meantime.
>>96459823I've had pretty negative experiences with army painter's tones, they don't flow well at all.
>>96459823I've never used nuln but dark tone is your standard neutral brown-black wash.
>>96459931Would I be better off just thinning down a contrast or mailing away for one of those vallejo washes? I've had alright experiences with making my own wash-likes before but I don't know if I could get a reliable ratio every time. I could probably just premix a batch and keep it, thinking out loud.
>>96459960It's fine I've never had problems with it. You can always add a little flow improver if you prefer something more mobile. It's really not worth going to extra effort for vallejo these days.
>>96451141Sculpting done. First time doing 3d flames so they're kinda wonky. May be able to save them with painting but we'll see.>>96457214Nah, keeping the helmet as is. Mk7 better suits the idea of lotd being the image of space marines in the human collective subconscious.
>>96460248I really like that lil reliquary on the pauldron.
>>96460325I'm glad to hear that because it was a pain in the ass to make.
>>96460248Personally I think that without the esoteric elements like partially exposed skulls etc it'll end up looking more like a particularly pious, relic loving marines rather than a lotd wraith, although I appreciate the sculpted bits a lot
>>96460248sick, shoulder shelf fucking rips>>96460427i feel like once you have the ribs and bone toes and its on fire its hard to call it anything else, i'd guess chaplain if i had to guess something else and there are some clear signs its not that of course im just another rube though i dont think its a ridiculous take
airbrushing highlights...This might not be the best example picture, but how hard is it to do modular gradient highlights like this? Possibly even better than this? Does it take a lot of airbrush practice to master or is it kind of easy? These are big marines, but I'm wondering about on something smaller, like a necron or an oldschool firstborn model.
>>96461080FUCKING HATE THAT LOOK
>>96461118this example is fucking over the top, but I think if its very slight and subtle, it looks nice
>>96461118he's under water
>>96461080It's easy.>>96461118Because it's poorly done by a person wjo doesn't understand how light works
