Which gamestore-nerd hobby would you say has the smelliest and most anti-social playerbase? Do you hold any stereotypes against people who play certain games?
Card games, especially YGO.
Probably Magic... but adults playing Pokemon (or any child's game) are worse. 40k players are terrible, but not at the same depth. D&D is bad, but only those playing the most current edition (5th for now) are true filth.

>>96435763Having been to gathering for most types of nerd hobbies like tcg tournaments, video game tournaments and other stuff the absolute worst I've ever been to was a 40k tournament. to be fair it was 10 years ago so it might be better now but it was literally the single worst smelling event I had ever been to. 40 degree day in spring and th smell in the room was so unbearable that despite wearing shorts I still opted to watch at the outside tables in freezing temps because it was less awful.

I played a good bit of GW games and found most players were pretty cool. Granted I never got into the “competitive” scene. That has to be hell. Seeing older miniwargaming videos where some of the personalities from the channel/store would play some shit like Tau+Eldar against some poor Schlub who traveled 1000s of miles to be there and brought a fluffy army turned my stomach.

In my experience MTG.I went to a club day to play Battletech, not realising there was also a MTG tourney in one of the big rooms we use. There were about 60 overweight neckbeards, about a third of them in dresses or dressed in leather 'goth girl' outfits that clearly didn't fit them. The stench was unreal and seeped out into the rest of the building.At the time I put it down to the heat, but the next week I had to go to a big work gathering; there were a hundred or more people in a space smaller than the club hall, with the heating broken and the roomer much hotter than the club, but there was no smell at all. I realised that the MtG players were even greasier than they looked.

in philly we've got pax unplugged where all the tcg people go on the east coast. got some p o w e r f u l whiffs at times, especially with the card game folks

>>96435763When I used to play YGO back in the 2010's, I would often come across the occaisional smelly nerd sporting a lewd anime playmat. As eye-roll inducing as they were for perpetuating the stereotype, there was one guy who will always stick out in my mind as one of the worst people I've ever met at a game shop. As far as I could ever tell, his hygiene was acceptable, however he used to bring his little brother with him. While the kid was fine, and clearly new to the game, this guy would constantly give him so much shit it made everyone in the store uncomfortable. For context, This guy was somehwere in his 20's and his brother looked to be still in school, maybe about 14. The kid would regularly lose games as can be the case with younger players, and his older brother would just berate and insult him. I didn't stay at that store for long

Never experienced that with the MTG side. There's also something extremely strange about seeing the Pokemon side and it's a mix of 40 year gelatinous neckbeards playing with prepubescent boys. Strange fucking game.
