The most irrelevant faction in 40K.
This did not need to be it's own thread. This is literally the kind of thing you make a post in the general.
>so irrelevant, people dont even think about themstep aside, knife-ear.
>>96445118>>96445137>'Darkeldared' will become the new 'squatted' in your lifetime
>>96445118Not after Rogue Trader
>>96445118And that's a good thing!
>>96445137I like how they tried to hamfist votrans having a rivalry with eldar but no one cares or thinks about votrans in any manner, both in and out of setting
>>96445769They're get along great with adeptus mechanicus They both love body modifications
>>96445137Why the hell does GW keep insisting on making dwarfs and not giving them beards? Same thing with those stupid steampunk dwarfs, they're all clean shaven or have a small cropped beard.
>>96445868I’m pretty sure the steampunk dwarves all actually have beards. If they don’t they’re probably women.
>>96445875Their helmets are modeled as if they had beards, but under the helmet they have what votann have, which any real dwarf would call a pathetic stubble. Still a better direction than votann. And half of the models being beardless to represent women is also lame. I just don't know who looks at dwarfs and says "they'd look better without the beard".
>>96445868>>96445875>>96445880This guy alone beardmogs the entire rest of gw's dwarf ranges
>>96445882Seriously? Looks like some balding shortarse who overcompensates by getting involved in a beard oil MLM scam.
>>96446121you're describing a dwarf to the v
>>96445118I would say the Tau, I love them, but they only exist cause the other much larger factions are preoccupied with killing each other.
What people don’t get, is that the dark elves are the commercial bait faction. All those dark elf fantasy reps are.But this is the new age where the force is female and the male gaze is bad. Now they are just evil elves whos theme over laps with chaos, no identity. They are out.
>>96446863Man I love a proper edgelord without any of the irony. Its too bad most people can't actually play one well.
>>96445868They did the same thing for AOS Chorfs, very uncanny looking
>>96445118I actually liked them a LOT more with their original 3rd edition sculpts. Those has sovl. The current stuff sucks.
>>96453181What exactly do you prefer about them? I always thought Jes Goodwin did an excellent redesigning them in 5th
>>96453204They were kind of the beginning of GW's trend of over-detailing models. It doesn't look good imo.
>>96453204I like that sword design, even if the armor is a bit too detailed. Still, gotta love being spiky cunt with a cleaver that it's blade has a pointy bit just at the end of it, but behind the blade.
>>96445118Wouldn't that be the Lovecraftian Horrors that dwell in The Ghoul Stars? They never do anything.
>>96445118I would hesitate to call the Dark Eldar/Drukari “irrelevant,” since that would suggest that they do not have any sort of connection to the greater lore of 40k and, thus, no place within it, other than simply selling more model kits and paints. Rather, I would insist they instead be called “underutilized,” seeing as how there are no pieces of media (save for the Owlcat Rogue Trader game) that have actually taken the time to explore their nature outside of the utterly two dimensional (and worrying bio-essentialist) characterization of “sadomasochistic goth space elves who are pathologically evil” (granted, Owlcat’s Rogue Trader falls into this trap as well, but at least they actually TRIED to make it interesting).
>>96453776Have you read the Path of the Dark Eldar trilogy?
>>96453825>>96453776 here. Haven’t even heard of it until you mentioned it. Is it worth the read?
>>96445137At least they have the excuse of not existing for 99% of the franchise's history.
>>96446863That image describes 99% of modern feminist characters.
>>96453832>The Path of the Dark Eldar trilogy is pretty widely regarded as one of the best sets of Xenos books in the whole setting.>Yeah the Path of the Dark Eldar is a very tight and good read. All of the characters are pretty interesting despite all being Drukhari, and it really gives you a good look at the differences within the culture. Fun concepts like Ailendrach where Mandrakes live, the large amount of pocket dimensions very close to Comorragh proper, Incubi shit. I liked it a lot. The Archon was pretty cool too and I was rooting for him, but Vect is inevitable.>Path of the Dark Eldar is fucking god tier, bar none the best xenos trilogy BL will ever put out and it's such a shame it rots in obscurity. I cannot recommend it enough.> Have you even read Path of the Dark Eldar? Honestly they're probably the best written and most fleshed out Xenos faction in the game if you actually bother to read their trilogy. It's absolutely ridiculous how Craftworlders get absolutely shit on by GW yet Deldar get a god tier trilogy that no one read.> Seconding Path of the Dark Eldar. It's better than any of the Craftworld books.>I don't know what the fuck a drukhari is but the path of the dark eldar novels by Andy Chambers shit all over anything mike brooks has ever written.>Literally the only good 40k novels I ever read were the path of the dark eldar trilogy ones.>Path of the dark Eldar omnibus is really good. I wish more non dark Eldar collectors read it so it got more recognition.>The Path of the Dark Eldar novels are very good and interesting, especially for a world building side of the universe you don't see a lot about.>You should read Path of the Dark Eldar if you haven't, yet. It's fun. It pretty much single handedly turned me into a deldar fan.>There are exactly 4 Black Library books that I believe are tolerable. The first Sons of Aenarion book and the three Path of the Dark Eldar books.
>>96445118GW just needs to give Vect some justification for waging a proper war in realspace, something to tie them back together with everybody else in 40k, they definitely feel overly self contained to their own dimension as is
>>96445785>they have a rivalry with the faction that hasn’t done anything in 10 years
>>96445118I feel like it works for them, though. It plays into the pirate aspect of the Dark Eldar. They're secretive and opportunistic just like IRL pirates, they're not going to sit still and trade artillery barrages with the Guard or throw millions of schmucks into open conflict with the 'Nids.
>>96445126500+ replies max image limit ss this.
>>96467736also, this plays into the whole Your Dudes thingyou can say your faction is doing whatever, and there's no bad GW writing telling you otherwise
>>96453204He did, and the plastics were so good. I started DE just because of it, I already had an old box of kabalite warriors tho
>>96453832It's really, really good. BL accidentally got someone competent to write a Xenos trilogy for once, and he does a fantastic job of nailing down precisely the spirit of the Dark Eldar to a T. While it mostly focuses on villainous bastards betraying each other and accidentally throwing Commorragh into havoc, it's anything but one-note. Book two is a particular highlight, in that it focuses on an Incubus and a Harlequin going on jolly cooperation adventures together and showing what it looks like when Craftworlders turn evil without realizing they've gone rotten due to their arrogance. Book three is absolute fucking kino that ties up all the narrative threads of the trilogy in the most satisfying way and finally gives a glimpse at who Vect really is, beneath his egomaniacal persona.
>>96453825NTA but I have the first book, never got around to reading it. Maybe I should.
>>96445118Relevant to what? The "plot"? The "story"? Both are fucking garbage. The only thing of relevancy in 40k is if they are a unique army that can fight other armies on the table top.
>>96468790The first book starts a little slow as the characters and their schemes are established, but is pretty decent once the action picks up. The full payoff mainly comes in the next two books though which take the individual plot threads and characters introduced in book 1 and run with them in fun new directions
>>96445118The fact that their machines are powered by rape is kind of a hard thing to work around in a narrative context.
>>96469137only if you're a coward like GW currently is staffed by
