Compared to the more modern titans and knights do you think the classic Imperator's aesthetics hold up?

First for Iron Warriors.

>TQ

I don't like that model very much, but a titan with a cathedral on its back is such a classic Warhammer concept that I have to defend it. However, in the case I'd ever buy a titan, I'd go for a more modern design.

How does solar auxilia play in 3.0? Having those mechanicum detachments looks pretty fun, shame that they can't get ursaraxii in those. But I guess that's what allies are for.
>>
>>96446708
>tq
Yes, it helps that for the new titan types they took very direct inspiration from the older sketches.
>>
>>96446735
>cathedral
Not all emperor titans have it. Iirc it's an option even in the older AT stuff.
>>
>>96446708
>TQ
Imperator was made with the predecessors of modern titan designs in mind. Current Mars pattern Warlord and Warhound are just evolutions of the original (pre-)Epic ones. Now, of course a Numperor titan would tone down some of the fancier elements and add more of the rounded body paneling found on new super-heavies (as seen in more modern art of the things), but unless they go full redesign for production purposes, I don't see how it couldn't fit design wise.

Reposting from end of last thread, do ranged armigers have a spot in mech lists? You can get TWO Lightning locks or graviton pulsars, at the same price as a Krios. Lightning locks are D2 and breaching 5+, so they can even threaten termies and veterans, and the grav guns have pinning (2) in case you want to gimp the lucky few survivors,

What about the daemon engines like Brass scorpion and Kytan? Blood Slaughterer and Decimator look kinda mid but I don't know how the big boys stand

Also, how did the demon engines fare when making

They certainly need an update, but nothing too extreme. I'd mainly change the legs. What really needs to be resolved is the scale issue. How big are Imperators exactly? Are they building sized? Are they kilometres tall? Are they 40m tall? depictions are all over the place

Mostly, it might need a few scale changes and details. Also a lot more secondary and tritary guns.

The armiger autocannons eat 3-4 Vets/Thallax a round on average, not too shabby. The armiger meltagun is a gambling weapon against heavy units, 22% of the time you pick a Land Raider off the table at 12" range and the rest of the time you do very little, since you probably aren't getting to 12" melta range without moving and losing S10. Still, pretty decent for a 150pt walker that's fast and decently tough, compares well to dreads.

Moirax is 2" slower for some reason at move 8, didn't notice that before. Lightning locks eat basically all infantry, although again I prefer them on Mech Karacnoi that get more guns more cheaply. Volkite is a bit lame, moirax grav is reasonably scary. You can get 4 shots with Shock (Pinned) and Pinning (2), and while they don't really hurt anything bigger than a Marine they can happily status vehicles and pin squads forever. Just remember they can't split fire like vehicles can, so you can't pin two squads with one rifleman armiger.

Brass Scorpionposting hit character limit, one second.

In melee you get up to 4 attacks at strength 10 ap2 with armourbane, Crits (5+) and armour-breaker(4+) mean each attack can do up to 5 damage (and against av14 all your attacks are effectively damage 4)

You get to volley fire a crapton of guns before charging, and the Unstoppable subtype means you can move in and out of combat as you please. It's guns are pretty fun too, and you can buff it to bs5/ws5
>>
>>96447137
>Mech Karacnoi that get more guns more cheaply.
Aren't both a Krios and a rifleman Moirax 170-ish points?
>>
>>96447164
I completely overlooked the fact that it can volley fire.
>>
>>96447130
It was also a S10 AP2 5" blast gun in 1.0. Retards who cry about nerfing transport capacity are all nogames netbabies, or they'd realize that a S10 AP3 3D 3" blast isn't that much better than 2 S9 AP2 D1 shots, definitely an upgrade but not "halves your transport capacity" level of upgrade
>>
>>96446841
>>96447137

The Brass Scorpion is a nigh-invulnerable ridiculous engine of destruction and I love it. 15W, T8 2+ 5++, EW (1), has implacable advance to fire its large blast demolisher cannon twice and then charge every round. Can move through other models, can't be locked in combat so the cannoning never ends, hits hard enough in melee to fold up a Kratos or a Spartan in two rounds or so. It doesn't really have the attacks to deal with infantry in melee, but it doesn't really care. It is a bit slow, though, since it gets a lot of its firepower from Volley and so wants to be close.

Run at people, blast basically any target with the guns and then go chew on a vehicle in melee, repeat forever. It doesn't hard-counter anything in particular offensively, especially since as an automata it can't split fire its anti-infantry guns while firing the main gun at vehicles, but it will happily rip large chunks out of essentially anything you point it at.

10 Thunder Hammer Justaerin beating on this thing at once don't even take it to half health. A Sicaran Venator or a Kratos firing at it do maybe 3 wounds on average, because you can't get melta rule benefits or Shock(Status) against non-vehicles. Get an Archmagos or a couple of techmarines to repair you and throw some cybertheurgy buffs and you fear nothing that doesn't have a Volcano Cannon, although Cerberoi and Knights Atrapos should still be murdered with extreme prejudice. Get some Vultarax friends and status the hell out of them while you kill them, it makes all the Ordnance (D) neutron lasers lose half their damage.

>>96447170

A lightning cannon Krios is 135 and extremely fast. A Karacnos is 225 and gets two independently firing lightning locks plus the incredible Pinning (3) phage barrage, and all of them are defensive weapons.

Idk how to use Dynat. He is a praetor on foot, meaning he is for melee and needs a transport...
...but he also infiltrates his unit, meaning that he won't be using a transport, and he will begin close to the enemy but also won't melee them until T2. And he won't shoot them either, as to not risk Return Fire.
I'm at an impasse. I'd rather have his 1.0 rules back (in the enemy's DZ, his army rerolls sweep (Pursue?) rolls, and gets +1 to vehicle pen)
>>
>>96447232
You're nostalgia blinds you to the fact that this would just be a massive nerf because unlike 5th 40k it's easy as fuck to get a massive spam of anti-tank weapons to just make all vehicles crippled hulls, and no I'm not even talking about WAACfag lists or the new FOC.

He's not actually that good at melee compared to a regular praetor, since anything that either struggle to kill in a duel will have a 2+ save and so he basically rounds to a normal praetor with -1A unless you are specifically killing MEQ. As far as I can tell, Dynat is a cheap transport for one of your non-infiltrating infantry units who happens to come with a praetor statline and MOTL, which is pretty handy by itself. Use him to shove chosen or some Rewards of Treason elites in the enemy's face, or even set a HSS up in optimal firing position for round 1, although that is a bit of a waste if you do actually want to melee at all. Personally I'm liking the idea of 10 RoT Suzerains, they're relatively affordable and they come with invulns and at-initiative AP2.

Alternatively, you can go for the chaos configuration, join him to 50 levies with whatever provenances you like and infiltrate a giant wall of bodies onto the board's centreline. React/move them forwards to block off the objective, leave a deeper checkerboard of infantry at max coherency ahead of enemy transports to stop them driving across the line and enjoy all the midfield space you just created as the enemy infantry have to kill you off to break the line. Augmented Levies won't rout when meleed but can't Reposition for that 3" of extra zoning when going second.

This probably isn't good, and it will probably get Dynat killed if he doesn't detach and end up in your backline, but it is funny.
>>
Mechanised list, except it's slightly more infantry/line focussed than just running tanks and tanks and tanks. Thoughts?

"Spoilers" for Kyme's Immortal Duty:
>He gave no recognition of the fact I had just spoken his name. I thought he had died and yet here he was, aboard the Obstinate. But something was very wrong. His flesh looked cold, gelid, like the severed heads in front of me. Azoth’s fire had been extinguished. Ice filled his veins and countenance. A dead man stood before me with the axe, dead and yet animate, bereft of any sense of cognition that would mark him out as the warrior I once knew.
What's being implied here?
That they rescued Azoth, same as Gallikus, from space but he was wounded enough that when they put more cybernetics onto him to save him, it essentially turned him into a servitor? Or something similar to that, basically lost enough of his flesh that he lost his soul too?
Or is there some deeper, darker IH lore I’m missing here? Maybe it’s punishment for failing in his duty again, but that doesn’t make sense since Gallikus failed in the same way and he’s being kept as an Immortal.
>>
>>96447195
It's not about balance it's about fluff. That thing can't carry as many people because you gotta carry the shells for the demolisher too which 1.0 represented with the different capacity depending on the hull gun. Also it sounds from your post that your problem isn't how many saux a dracosan it can carry or how much it costs but rather the stats of the demolisher.

What’s up /tg/? Need some input from anyone that feels like it. I’m a wargaming noob who played 40k off and on many years ago, orks in 4th edition iirc

Long story short, a friend who has invested a lot of time and many thousands in the hobby is trying to get me onboard the new HH edition that just dropped. I think it could be a fun way to spend time with him and as good a reason as any to go out and meet people, but I’m way out of the loop, and don’t know much about factions, rules, lore, player culture, etc.

It feels like a lot to digest for a green player, so maybe share some of your experience and wisdom with me?

>What’s a good source to start learning the lore and timeline? And maybe figure out which factions appeal to me? Any “required” reading?

>What are good armies for inexperienced / kinda retarded players, easy to understand and play? And maybe, not too expensive? Might be asking too much there

>What are some bad player habits that might not be obvious to outsiders? Cardinal player sins and such? i.e how can I not be annoying or off putting to long established members of the hobby?

Or just advice you would give a friend who you want to get into it. Feels like I need a semester at a community college to be caught up. Any advice is appreciated.
>>
>>96447634

The hammer trick is cool but mostly a downgrade, I think. Standard AL Praetor can already use their god tier gambit to lock the enemy down to I1 and then beat them mercilessly with a normal thunder hammer.

Power-wise Dynat is about a 6-7/10, I have lists that use him, I have lists that don't use him, but his infiltrate trick is the kind of army-supporting buff that really isn't on that many characters any longer, so it's good to have him as an option.
Went through the books on a whim, the characters that have any kind of squad-support rules are Ventanus, Sedras, Qin Xa, Pollux, Lotara, Abbadon, Maloghurst and Dynat, that's it, and half of those are pretty puny. Ventanus is really handy, though.

Hi anon.

>Lore
Read the Black Books here https://gofile.io/d/huUWLK.

>Starter armies
Since you're new, the Saturnine box is a good starting point. It gives you 40 tactical bodies, 6 of the new terminators, the terminator praetor and the power armor centurion, then an emplacement. The emplacement is decent for starting out, as are the terminators.
You'll want to find a legion that resonates with you, and start looking into getting some special weapons and heavy weapons to turn some of those tacticals into support squads.

>Bad habits
We like to see Heresy as a semi-historical game, so it's encouraged to run units that are thematic for your legion over what's currently Strong. For example, running a lot of flamers with Salamanders, a lot of heavy bolters with Imperial Fists, etc, over running multiple Kratos tanks.

black books are a good start but theres a lot to digest there. Luckily theres also plenty of warhammerslop youtubers that regurgitate the 40k wiki
>What are good armies for inexperienced / kinda retarded players, easy to understand and play?
marines because they're everywhere and you can recast them for cheap or custodes since you only need like 20 infantry guys and some vehicles. There also several gaming youtube channels that give a detailed breakdown on how each legion plays the game but that will also depend on what edition your doing
>What are some bad player habits that might not be obvious to outsiders?
just dont be lazy when it comes to modeling/painting and keep your army relatively close to the lore. Most Heresy players aren't meta chasers either so dont go in expecting the typical 40k power game standard

Seconding the other anon on the Black Books. The last couple fall off a bit, but the first few are some of the best campaign books. Read the lore sections of the first one or two for the vibe and some highly important battles, then the others if you're enjoying it or want to learn more about the particular Legions in them. BB1 Betrayal and BB2 Massacre are some of the best campaign books ever written in my opinion.

The lore section in the HH2 and HH3 rulebooks is a good brief summary of the setting and main events/factions up to the Siege of Terra (the final campaign). It's the only thing you need to play the game, really.

Then the traditional advice is to read the first BL HH series books, from Horus Rising to Fulgrim/The Flight of the Eisenstein. They're pulpy but essential to get the mood of the setting as a prequel to 40k. Then get a reading guide and focus on books of the factions you like until the lineal Siege of Terra series. Some are shit, others are great, you'll need to make up your own mind.

Other anons recommend the HH1 Black Books, which are great high effort products and also mandatory, but you need to be aware of the following that anons here will not tell you:
1.they low-key assume you've read the BL books they're based on
2.they're incomplete, they only cover the start of the war. Besides the initial Issvan trilogy, the rest focus mostly in events outside the main BL books narrative.
3.they also have accuracy/retcon issues. Made up units, factions in battles they never were in the original BL books, etc.

If you need any books, just ask.

Any highlights of Dynat's infiltrate? Idk what to bring with him lol
>Hammer trick
Aww rip. Would've been nice for it to cause one hammer attack for every successful sword hit during duels

There's also lexicanum dot com if you wanna quickly read up on the lore of any warhammer subject.

>I’m actually relieved to hear that HH had a more emphasis on thematically appropriate battles and not just dick-kicking meta lists.
Don't be fooled. Everybody from anons here and GW themselves will tell you that the HH is more narrative game, but in reality the people playing can be just as WAAC as in 40k despite some house rules becoming common to reign on it (like 1 dread per 1k points in HH2)

It is somewhat less prevalent, depending on the local group of course. There's enough people that post huge, impressively painted armies and "bad" units to prove that HH has less meta chasers than 40k.

So much of AL already has infiltrate that sometimes you straight up don't need him, but he's good for melee praetorians, and you can make a reasonable case for shooty squads that like being set up ahead of time in a good midfield position. HSS, TSS, vet tacs with special weapons.
Rewards of Treason or allies opens this up a good amount: my good idea is Ultramarines Suzerains, my silly idea that I need to test against a proper rhino rush is the levies here >>96447426.

Mech has a few units that don't mind a forward position either, but the only non-Bulky ones are the Arcuitor Magisterium (Sigismund-tier duelist for a much lower price, add Paragon of Battle and attach to a Dynat melee squad like Suzerains or Vet Breachers to go hunt praetors) and Scyllax (don't neatly fit in allied detachments, you can do better with your own melee elites).

What about infiltrating a squad of DA interemptors? Nothing is gonna want to charge into that.
>>
>>96448396

You can't use Guide on the Arcuitor when they're mixed with Marines, so an allied one is less scary, but you can detach them from the squad before the shooting/charging so they can self-buff if necessary, and a paragon/hammer Arc without Guide is still going to flatten all but the very best SM duelists because the main use of Guide is going from WS7 to WS8 so that people like Siggy hit you on 5s.

Would be an amazing pick if they weren't Bitter Duty, but Dynat can't join them since they are. Same for most Destroyer-type units.

>>96448450
Ugh forgot about bitter duty, of course. Guess I'm gonna stuff them in a drop pod then.

I'm buying another 6 saturnine terminators
>>
>>96448471
Any particular reason?
I'm still waiting on the saturnine command squad rules. Squads of 3 with either gun seem good enough already.
>>
>>96448471
I admire your decisiveness. I can’t even pick a legion despite having almost 100 infantry.

I like it anon, I would have included a artillery's tercio for the indirect fire instead of the stormhammer but that is a fluffy list. Go forth and make those marines pay!
