No resource cards...

Do yourself a favor make a fake discord with a trash email and use lorcanito. If you can't do that

TQ, anything more consistent. Games moved away from the mtg land/mana and pokemon energy in the main deck for a reason.
I'm also interested in the resource system from the new godzilla game where it's determined by the threat of your opponent's kaiju. The bigger it is the more cards you draw at the start of turn and as it gets closer and closer you can play bigger and better defenses.

Fixed resources a la Ashes. Allows for card design to float instead of flooring out because you can't be sure the player will have the resources to play a card when they draw the card.
Cumulative systems like FFTCG and Netrunner because use it or lose it is gay design unless time is thematically involved (construction/available labor)
Thresholds because they are a good secondary resource for moderating the pace of the game, turn costs from Naruto being the most straightforward one. Reminder, that game was accidentally made good.

easily wixoss Level Limit being the main "resource lock" and destroyed units going to resource as a "catch up" mechanic.
>>96452050
you dont draw at the start of your turn and mostly locked to 5 cards a turn in godzilla. you draw end of turn up to 5 dependent on how many cards you used. the system for level is real interesting though.
>>
>>96453338
>for no reason
She shouldn't be allowed to have felling if the crown. Such a bullshit card. Now she's just going to take one of the other legendary head pieces and be fine shooting out 6 base arcane damage from 6 of her spells and felling people right after.

>>96454399
Despite all of those that hero still barely managed to capture big tournament wins before the ban.

>Fixed resources a la Ashes.
honestly the thing I like least about that game
taking mana out of the main deck is good. removing RNG bullshit ramp is good. adding a shitton of extra components I need to track is not good. brilliant game, but there had to be a better way to do that.

Through no failures of her own but this post aggro meta
>>
>>96454657
Yeah. Although now that I'm thinking about it more I watched a bunch of Verdance vs Gravy matches from high level tournaments lately and most of those matches were decided by early Golden tipples. Maybe without those Verdance would've dominated those matches.

So I'm testing anon's Mickey Mouse deck (pic related) from the last thread in Lorcanito, and I'm having a blast, but is there anything i could do to further optimize this?
>>
>>96455558
What is or isn't working for you? Presumably some way to increase hitting power could help early game, and help 2 cost mickey cheat out easier. Looks pretty good, though.

That's dope. Doom town aka Deadlands is a cool setting.
>>
>>96454656
Did they add a bunch of stuff? The only components really *needed* to play ate the cards and the dice. Yeah, you get tokens for a few things, but those can all pretty easily be replaced with d6's.

Ashes has way less fiddly shit to keep track of than something like Marvel Champions.

>Ashes has way less fiddly shit to keep track of than something like Marvel Champions.
having less fiddly shit than FFG the king of component bloat is not exactly a win.
ashes still has a ton. you need a double deck box to travel and one side of it is going to be just dice and tokens.

I've got a favorite, but I also have two close runner ups:

3rd Place: I really like One Pieces resource because it's just generic resource, it ramps at a reasonable pace, it caps at 10, and it doubles as a power boost for your cards. It's very simple, but allows for some interesting design space.

2nd Place: Warlord is a game I was way, way late to get into but it reinvigorated my interest in TCGs. No resource is great. You'd think it would cause balance issues, but no. All the balance is done on the cards you're playing once per turn for free. A card seems too strong? Increase the requirements to use it. This card seems too weak? Lower the requirements to use it.

1st Place: I've played games where any card in your hand can be a resource, and they are okay. What I really like is "anything is a resource, but also there are resource cards" which is what the WoW TCG does. It's just a perfect combination of the two worlds and I feel like the design space is huge. I can play this equipment card face down as a resource, or I can play this quest card face up which can tap for resource but also has a one time activated ability and a reward, or I can play this location card face up for an ongoing effect and it taps for resource with the trade off being I can only have one location at a time. And I am pretty sure there are cards that when you play them as a resource you can reveal them to do a thing. But even just the idea of "I can play this high cost card face down as a resource and later I have an effect that lets me take a face down resource and put it back into my hand" or "This removal spell is cheap, but it turns the target into a face down resource" or "When this card dies, it returns as a tapped face down resource" or "This card cares about when I turn a quest/location face down" or "This effect cares about the card type of one of my random face down resources" I just love it so much and can't sing it's praises enough.

The bans have me losing more and more faith in LSS by the day. They and everyone else touted FAB as a well designed game that learned from meg's mistakes, but that's turning out to not be true at all with each of these bans.

Mistveil was insanely overpowered, gravy is going insane, they can't seem to figure out where to cap the Rosetta heroes not to mention aurora's bullshit. It's almost as if they are just making overpowered cards and heroes then just not bothering to do extensive play testing. I love fab as a game but LSS needs to step it up. Even our local hardcore fab guys are starting to get tired of it and are flirting with Riftbound. There was a time when tcg designers faced some consequences when they screwed up but I guess they are just allowed to fuck around now. The fab scene needs to wake up and bitch them out more.
>>
>>96458136
>then just not bothering to do extensive play testing
The tester guys seem kind of weird. One of them in a recent YouTube showcase of an armory deck said that he mains Boltyn in the test tournaments and he tends to sweep the floor with most of the new heroes regularly. LSS also often acts shocked by what the players come up with after every new release.
Despite their claims and ambitions they might not be nearly as competent as they'd like to think that they are.
>>
>>96458234
Would you mind giving me a link to it? I wanna share it with my boys. Or just the channel name. Interesting though, nobody at my local scene plays boltyn regularly. He's never top at any of the big tournaments. It's like play testing with uzuri and nobody plays her.

Not a great look when your customers play your game better than you do.
>>
>>96458285
The customer will always play the game better than the designer. That's just the benefit of large populations able to play the game more than any reasonable development team can.

But LSS isn't even close. Look at every set since Heavy Hitters and you'll see a pattern that is either intentionally predatory or pure incompetence.

Either way, the fact FAB stopped publishing print run sizes after all this time tells me the anecdotal steep decline in player base is likely true. It's not like there was ever much new blood coming in.
>>
>>96458285
It was on the official FaB YouTube channel but I don't remember which video it was. It might not be too recent, my bad. Might've been the Boltyn armory deck demo video. Boltyn was still old and off meta at that point too though.

Work in progress
>>
>>96458495
How often are they gonna have a hand where they want to keep every single card?
>>
>>96458529
I think as much as having the option to cycle cards in hand is a benefit to the player, I also think forcing them to do so can be a downside to them. And it could combo with a card like Open Source
>>
>>96458407
True. I blame the try hards and over powered cards mostly. I've seen countless people come into the game and then leave because they can never get a win or even close to a win. And my lgs is cool with proxies as well. We even had a fai player caught cheating just to win 30 bucks of store credit or a couple packs.
>>
>>96458136
>>96458234
Given the way they seem to selectively forget that decks should have weaknesses to encourage metagame, I suspect they have some "strong personalities" in the dev room. The kind who is incapable of compromise, or of putting overall balance ahead of his current personal favorite.
>>
>>96458505
looks very intresting game, keep it up anony
>>
>>96458716
Thank you anon! I have 210 cards ready for Set 1 to get playtesting
>>
>>96458573
Part of that is the game is deceptively, and decisively, low rng and high skill. So a newbie is unlikely to win their first dozen games, at best, even with a top tier deck. Combine that with using subpar decks and you repel everyone that isn't a tryhard.

There are many reasons to hate lands, but the occasional free win to the worse player makes magic more palatable to new players.
>>
>riftbound secret lair is still up after hours
Game is dead, I wanted to resell them but they seem pretty worthless now.
>>
>>96458911
>lands are a feature as much as a bug
I wish more people would understand that. In terms of market appeal, psychology matters much more than autistic ideals of balance and fairness.
>>
>>96459247
Jinx is bad and Arcane is pure r*ddit garbage. And they're selling mostly unplayable cards at a huge premium.
>>
>>96459275
>Jinx is a baddie
We know.
>>
I hate how they we have to play catch up to China for Riftbound
Catching up to meta is fucking stupid. One Piece still hasn't caught up
>>
>>
>>96458911
I get that, I just wanted to enjoy some games after 10 hours in the heat/cold. But every game is like this, the tryhards always ruin it for people who just wanna play the game.

Like our local armory guys are grinding 100s of games on talishar a day and treating every armory like it's a tournament. There's gotta be something between tournament try hard and just being a fairly average person that enjoys the game.
>>
>>96459259
matters to whom, is really the question.
WotC's great revelation was that the people who care about balance don't matter. the competitive vets are responsible for almost all of the complaints, but as a group they don't spend 1% of what the casuals and whales do. trying to make a deep well-balanced game is, financially speaking, a total waste of time.

which is why the only games where you actually get that are community-run dedgames, or shit from tiny garage publishers that are small enough to still have players in charge of major decisions.

Are we in a new era of games?
Or just the echoes of '20's boom?
