gib ideas for a Dark Sun campaign please. I think I'm going to do a really sandboxy war campaign between Raam and the bandit kingdoms in the north over an elemental nexus but I dunno how to start it.
>>96460146Well, the first question is if you want to give the players the option of who to side with there, or if you've already got an idea for which side they should go for. Most open-ended would probably be having them be the survivors of a monster attack on a caravan, which means that the players could easily be guards, prisoners, merchants, mercenaries, etc. Though that start also relies on the PCs having background contacts or relations with Raam, the bandit kingdoms, or some of the other outlying towns and settlements. If you're not going to start with them involved, you're going to need to give them plenty of things pushing for them to stay in the area and get involved.
>>96460146Getting ready for mine. Players start off as slaves being trained to be gladiators (Pre/Non Prism Pentad setting). They begin in a manor outside Tyr where they're being trained and meet a fellow slave of the Veiled Alliance. The Dragon is rumored to be near, and the decennial rains to fill the city's cisterns are late.
>>96460785As they're training, the rains finally arrive. The dragon appears above a nearby hill and they see a chance to escape in the chaos and confusion, fleeing the manor on stolen mounts. Slavers pursue them as they skirt the dragon's zone of death towards the city down a flash-flooded wadi.
>>96460800They get to the city and the prologue is essentially complete. The old man they saved invites them to a much more rough-and-tumble version of the Veiled Alliance that's looking to get into a couple different scraps. If the players wanna, they can pick from three different adventures with the Veiled Alliance.
>>96460808Most obvious one is to rescue the old man's beautiful daughter from slavery at the house of the noble who has kidnapped her (gotta have my damsel in distress). Dunno why but Inkarnate isn't letting me open this map so I had to grab the publish preview. They just did an update and it's having trouble loading. Obviously not complete.
>>96460818Another is to free a batch of slaves before they arrive in the city to bolster the Alliance's numbers, by hitting a mekillot caravan arriving from out of town.
>>96460828And the third is to explore Under Tyr and look for a route into the noble's quarter beneath the city. That map isn't done yet.
>>96460833And that's as far as I've got things mostly-ready. From there, they can fuck around as Alliance members or really do whatever they want. I've got a rough sketch of an underground section where they'll "Enemey of my Enemy" a colony of Yuan-ti beneath the city who betrays them (gasp!) and sacrifices the girl to bring their Yuan-ti abomination to life. Who sorta assumes her body/memories/life but is fucked up and evil and essentially a Marilith. But I dunno. We'll see where they take it.
>>96460146God I miss Dark Sun and this whole edgy 80s/90s heavy metal fantasy flavor so much. I want violence, sex, and tragedy back.
>>96462617Can't. There's too much of a suggestion of class warfare and anti-oligarch sentiment in Dark Sun, and you know the suits want to stymie that.
>>96462617So play it.>>96463174>Can'tCrybaby says wha? Buy the books. Run a game. There absolutely are not any badwrongfun police to stop you.
>>96463489>are not any badwrongfun police to stop you.I'm not so sure anon WoTC might hire some Pinkertons to come over to his house and rough him up.
>>96460844You can always try the old adventures in dark sun if you feel like it. And slavery is never just a one time thing under the burning glare of the dark sun. As long as the sorcerer kings rule there city's nobody is truly free even if they do not live in bondage. The sorcerer kings love to run near constant slave raids in there own city's whenever they have a new idea pop into there heads and it needs tons of free labor to complete. New, bigger, grander temples to themselves and there own egos need to come from somewhere after all. So why not from the broken bodies and souls of massive temporary work forces you can whip into line from your own citizens. You can after all be dragged into and dumped out of slavery many times in your life. As soon as yu are done with whatever pet project your sorcerer king wanted done he will most likely just have you dumped back onto the streets where he does not need to feed, water, or keep you caged anymore.Afterall the lifeless sands of the endless wastes are more than enough to keep you trapped behind his city's walls and under his control.
>>96460146We've been running a Palladium Fantasy Dark Sun campaign for awhile now, and it's pretty fun setting. Our DM has gone above and beyond and basically has a little compendium of each city state with hooks, so we're focusing on creating a little roving trade caravan/mercenary group. Raam is full of all sorts of conspiracies and strife between revolutionaries, infighting between guilds and nobles, and secret police. Our start was as slaves in the Draj arena that won our freedom, so that might be a good start for you.
>>96463174I think it's the slavery and race war themes. I don't hate trannies but I hate that media has been trannied.
>>96463521WotC literally sells the old books.People want to piss and moan, but WotC has made a good deal of the TSR catalog readily available.
>>96460146>gib ideas for a Dark Sun campaign pleaseExtermination of any elf who acts like a real-life gypsy (aka all of them)
I will play in your Dark Sun campaign and you can use my psion's backstory as a central plot piece. I like the XPH race Elan as being vaguely human/elven but being explicitly created by Mind Slavers - he is often captured and reset/rebirthed when his psionic power grows dangerous in a variety of directions. ( an in setting reason for DMs regularly banning him )
