Back from the dead edition

>What is Shadow of the Demon Lord?:
Shadow of the Demon Lord is a horror-fantasy tabletop adventure game that presents a world standing on the brink of annihilation. In this game, you and your friends play characters charged with fighting back against the spreading evil, whether that involves tracking down potent relics, exploring ancient faerie ruins, journeying into Hell to bargain with the Devil, or battling demons and the cultists who summon them. The system is setting agnostic and has a wide variety of possible details for your own world.

>What is PunkApocalyptic: the RPG?:
Another game using the Demon Lord Engine. Text trimmed for text length constraints.

>What is Shadow of the Weird Wizard?:
It's a high fantasy game running on the Demon Lord Engine. It's similar to SotDL, but without the horror elements and the power levels are higher.

>Thread Question
Do you use roll tables to generate your characters? If so, what's your favorite character that came from it?
>>
mid game that gets continual marketing to sell sourcebooks
>>
>>96473778
What fantasy RPG isn't?
>>
Are there any splats that cover things like rogue-y tools? I'm playing a rogue in a SotWW game.
>>
>>96474402
SotWW doesn't have a load of support as of yet but the Dwarf book Honor is Life, Glory in Death does have a few bits and pieces you'll probably enjoy. Actually the Faerie book With a Faerie, Hand in Hand is probably also helpful on that front.
>>
So now that it's been out a while, how is Weird Wizard? Anyone actually playing it?
>>
>>96474554
I think it's great, personally. It's got plenty of what I like from SotDL but a lot of new stuff both for the higher fantasy style of it, and just in general. So it's familiar but also fresh, and I think it does a few things like Paths, Magic, and Initiative just plainly better than SotDL too. I've played a fair amount of it never had a bad time.
>>
>>96474554
It's pretty good mechanically, but it's just serviceable as for lore and setting part and has no theme to lean on. And there's no shortage of RPGs with heroic fantasy kitchen sink.
>>
>>96474895
I think the lore is over all better than SotDL. A lot of it is the same broad stroke foundations given the love it took years for it to get in SotDL.
>>
>>96474554
From what I've seen Rob made it so gishes are actually viable. Power increases with your group level instead of paths level so picking a magic path later on isn't a trap anymore.
>>
>>96475509
Gishing in plenty doable with the reworks to Adept in SotDL.
>>
>>96475755
NTA but it's been viable for a lot longer than that, since core it's been viable. Spellbinder is basically all you need on top of Rogue or Priest. What hasn't really been viable is mixing non-Power with Power Paths because of how badly it fucks spell progression. That's something that's been fixed in SotDL.
>>
Why the fuck Schwalb writes basically sotdl adventures for weird wizard? They all have the same tone as DL ones missing only the stuff about no good endings in conclusion.
>>
Are Incarnations this fucking powerful? RAW they can possess a bear and gain access to its physicals while keeping their mental stats and magic. Apparently dragons are mortal so apparently they could posses them too.
>>
>>96478524
They're closer to god than actual gods, I'd hope so.
>>
How does SDL/SDWW handle Long-term campaigns?
>>
>>96479157
What's long-term to you?
>>
>>96479165

40~ sessions per year, 3-4 hours of gametime
>>
>>96479179
I mean, how many years would you wanna play a single campaign for?
>>
>>96474402
>Are there any splats that cover things like rogue-y tools?
No, but there's seven sourcebooks for different types of bowel movements and things you can do with the shit you just dropped.
>>
>>96479179
My adventures, from 0 to 10, ranged on average of 2-4 sessions. Typical session length was 4-5 hours.
40~ sessions for one campaign is pretty doable. It's all about how you pace it. Demon Lord and Weird Wizard are more built around that level 0-10 structure, and keeping up a consistent pace toward that end leads to smooth games in my experience.
>>
>>96479157
Doable. Throw out of the window recommendation to increase level after each adventure and do it after 2-3 adventures since gaining 1st level. If you run a campaign that has more or less seamless flow than visualize story arcs as adventures and keep average arc length about equal to 2-3 sessions - some o the PC paths gain resources that are refreshed each adventure, not each rest. On level 10 add paragon rewards after each adventure, while still limiting the Power (caster rank) - it's better to give just the spell of a rank higher with 1/rest recharge. This way the will be able to play on a peak for more than just a short final while still getting some advancement
>>
Any sdl lore masters can tell me about Dwarfen Kingdoms? There's nothing about them in the victims supplement or the core book
>>
>>96479157
I did 1.5 year long (weekly) campaign in SotDL and it was fine, only 10 levels is a little bit dull but not a deal-breaker and the other big concern is that sometimes it can be relatively easy to die
>>
Is the guy maintaining trove still there? I have "Glory to High One" from vola
