▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop minature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: [YouTube] Kingdom Death: Monster - Prologue (https://youtu.be/FNLc8dHv0Ac)

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

A successful game campaign takes place over the course of 25 to 30 'lantern years' maximum, marked by completing one full phase cycle. Watch as your settlement grows and witness the survivors write their own narrative as they age. Hone your strategy and learn from your mistakes to overcome the immense odds in this cruel and twisted nightmare scape.

Yeah, its basically this method except with off-white highlight instead of skin tone:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqtXK3NLk1c

The texture will show up more if you apply a matt varnish afterwards. Also make sure you use a brush with a very good tip for the lines.

You can try the core game and most of the expacs on TTS via workshop mods, its recommended you do that before you're sure about buying a physical set.
There's also an official digital version that's WIP and currently lacks some features TTS has.

There's a sale every black friday with 20-50% discounts on most items, including the core game and older expansions.

Most likely not

Just got done with a 9 hour session with friends. I absolutely had no idea this game had so much depth past the opening fight. We pulled the event where we got fucking lost and had to start a new settlement. The hilarious narrative potential akin to dwarf fortress.

We finally has schedules line up, no work the next day, got a ton of take out and some drinks and just never looked at thw clock. The resetting of the settlement definitely added some time. The game scratches a particular roguelike itch for me and my buddy, but my girlfriend who's usually a pokemon fanatic with a (tolerable) amount of autism latched on and kept wanting to take her favorite dagger goblin survivor on hunts . I haven't had a gaming session like that in a while, made me feel young again.

Wholesome. People of the lantern?
>>
>>96488427
Yea just core for now, though I immediately started looking for a well priced gamblers chest on ebay. I honestly only got core on a whim years ago because I paint as a hobby and these models have the perfect aesthetic for horror and whore-er without being obnoxious. I think our groups going to be abusing this game for a good while. Next week we are having a paint session to paint the year 10 survivor box i got us.
>>
>>96488668
>and whore-er
lol, stealing that
>>
Keep the bases as they were for a nice statue base aesthetic or give the bases some life? I was really digging the Greek statue style but a fully painted monster/survivor seems a bit off. I am undecided. Also a world devoid of color and life might not translate well I dont think. I've got black sand I might use for the bases but not really sure what to do.
>>
>>96490139
I like to keep the bases as they are because I like that statue aesthetic and this has nothing to do with the fact that I suck at making good looking bases.

We talked about adding gorm or somthing, but wanted to get through a core game campaign before starting the expansions.
>>
>>96494069
what do echoes of death even tho? it says that they have unique survivors and a prototype of the stain system, aren't they obsolete since the strain system is completely out now?
>>
>>96494199
the extra vermin card is fun and strains are not obsolete.

if you refer to knowledges and philosophy's ? these are something new. strains are achievements that give a new thing, like fighting arts you can use.
>>
>>96494098
what i meant is that the core game is literally missing 1 monster, so its not really completed. it needs a lategame node 4 for after phoenix. best so far is dung beetle knight, or lion god for masochists.

i dont know how king would be implemented.
>>
So it looks like my purchase list for the future is
>core game (already owned and currently playing)
>then gamblers chest
>then allies and adversaries bundle
That sounds about right for getting the most out of everything? I know there's a bunch of single model expansions but I feel like the math favores the bundles.

almost all expansions are worth it IMO and very few only come with one model.

Maybe a homebrew item like
>Lexicon: may imprint one of your tactics and use it as a consumable that refreshes each turn/showdown/event/whatever the fuck
Takes up a gear slot for the freedom to take a tactic you learned previously. Though an on demand version might cause huge problems with the AI just unable to function correctly. Agreed it's a neat idea that needs some more work.
>>
>>96506288
>>96506799
how would you homebrew tactics?
just choose the one you want at will? then I would always use the same handful of ones.
make my own tactics? then I might as well change the entire game and redesign everything in the name of "homebrew"
>>96511219
this is just trading problems for new ones, like I said: good idea poor execution.
>>
>>96512009
maybe you make your own decision then
>>
Sorry, can't let you die just yet
>>
>>96512009

Thinking on it, I think I would have it that you would draw a single tactics card when you get a knight badge. The card stays tied to that specific badge, so you always have that tactic available with that badges. More knight enemies, more knight badges, more tactics available. It's still randomized, but locked in for the campaign instead of random every single fight, and if you get a tactic that's bad for the monster you want to hunt, you just don't bring the badge.
>>
>>96512009
Homebrew/Fudge rules or suffer/die is the name of the game. Core game is practically straight RNG.
>>

Injection moulding uses steel dies that don't allow for any undercut worth mentioning. Resin is cats in flexible rubber moulds that does allow a bit of undercut.
What's in the second photo doesn't look like a crumbling rubber mould, and a steel one certainly shouldn't loose a chunk like that without the detail being softened into oblivion first.

When I hunt and kill a monster of a certain level, do I have to progress to the next level if I choose to hunt it again? Up to to max of level 3 of course. I could have sworn I read somewhere this was the case but I might have misread that from a custom campaign or something.

I went directly from the base game to GCE, you can really feel how far Team Death have come in terms of design and storytelling.

People can call PoTL "soulslike" in its narrative all they want but at the end of the day the surface narrative is just random shit happening. It lacks any kind of overall thread between the different nemesises and story events. And the ending is complete ass where some dude shows up and farts your campaign to death. Unless you're some sperg who combs through every random event and store page description of a mini that sold out 15 years ago none of it makes even remote sense.

PoTDK meanwhile actually feels "soulslike", in the sense that you always have a vague intuitive sense of how events connect to each other and what the general motivation of the different characters are. You'll still have to autistically comb through all kinds of random event descriptions if you want to understand the DEEP LORE but the surface plot is comprehensible an intriguing - these superpowerful beings have some kind of bet going and this one guy is using you to stack the odds in his favour. Also I love how neither the Hand nor the Gambler are really malevolent
>>
Man fuck the phoenix, what a tedious build
had to go ballistic with putty to fix all the gaps and seams
At least this was my last non-optional assembly from the core models, only the generic armor kits are left and I'm not planning to assemble them any time soon
>>
>>96554888
Is there a set in stone plot for the setting now? I always kind of liked the idea that it was so vague we had to make our own theories. I had the idea that the players are just meta gods/ancestral spirits directing the lowley humans to ascendancy, and we jump into the lanterns of survivors brave enough to fight the dark and guide them. That's why using meta knowledge on fights works. Oh well, the setting and aesthetic are great.
>>
>>96554888
What is the deal with the Gold Smoke Knight, anyway? Feels like such a random boss of that campaign.
>>
>>96555762
in my headcannon, the "world" is actually a large artificial area of wilderness in the heart of a Borgesian city, where the Kingsman, Hand, manhunter etc come from...the survivor are pretty much pigeons in central park

Been playing here and there with a fresh settlement using expansions I hadn't gotten a chance to put on the table yet. I have to say, I'm sad the Flower Knight is kind of meh as it currently is. One of my favorite models, fun fight, good theming, but it just doesn't add anything substantive to your game. You only have to hunt it two or three times to get everything you'll ever need from it, the helmet and sword are gated behind a not at all fleshed out campaign for no good reason (I just house ruled it that they are patterns now that you get from beating a level 2/3 flower knight respectively), and you need to spend all the resources you get from it or they just go away for no real good reason.

It feels like he should have been a bonus nemesis, kind of in the same way the lonely tree is. Personally, the worst part is that he takes up the same node as the Smog Singers, which have all the instruments that would mesh well with the Flower Knight's cello.

Here's hoping the Oblivion Mosquito is a good expansion.
>>
>>96557733
rejoice then, because the True Flower knight aka Verant Lord has been teased as the hardest fight of all a while ago so i guess the abyssal wood and/or CoD expansion will give it a lot more fluff
>>
>>96558003
And that is great. I look forward to seeing the content some time within the next 10 years. Unfortunately, I didn't grab it in the kickstarter because it was supposed to be just a book of optional campains to run, and not full overhauls of expansions.
>>
>need lion god just to fill the slot on 1.6
>bought 1.6, GCE, and survivors pack already, so money is tight.
>consider recast, but dosnt come with cards
Do they sell cards seperately? I mean i could just get sleeves and card stock but I still feel like it would stand out too much in a deck.

gold smoke knight use to be an expansion for the 1.0 version of the game, on the 1.5 version they just bundle him with the main game and very awkwardly made him the final boss, the watcher use to be the actual final boss of the PotL campaign and thematically he still is, gold smoke knight is just an extra boss at the end for no god damn reason.

Isn't this something you should be working on in any game, along with a Fist/Tooth master? Having both of these available to all survivors dramatically improves your chances in encounters.
You also only need to hit and wound once with a weapon you're intending to master, you don't have to be using the master weapon as the only weapon for the whole encounter on that survivor.

Finished Red Witches last night, got it down to just a couple more GC narrative sculpt sprues left, hopefully finish this week. And then it's time to paint them...

I remember bringing a complete fresh survivor to a hunt, absolutely no stats on her whatsoever. Her first activation on her first turn I had her walk over to an herb bush to pick it. Rolled a 1, saw a bug with her own face on it. 3 brain damage. No insanity, so immediate brain trauma. Rolled a 1. Died.

Her entire life was her walking to a bush, seeing a bug with her own face on it, and dying. She was not meant to survive in this world.

What? No, GSK didn't exist at all until they added him to 1.5. He wasn't even slated to be part of the cancelled expansion, or at least he wasn't publicly stated to be. I honestly think Poots just thought he was cool and shoved him in at the end of the story.

Are the survivor head peices always the same size? Im not really digging the Allister face on the 10 year with the lips and what not, but I probably have a ton of different ones from GCE and core. Just a thought that came to me at work.
>>
>>96591130
KD has had some pretty massive scale creep over the years. Core box and original expansion figures are significantly smaller than more recent content like the 10Y anniversary survivors. Swapping with a core box head would be really obvious.

Doing it with a GCE head might be a better bet as far as size goes, but do keep in mind they aren't made to be swappable -- more recent figures are not supposed to be customizable, each piece is uniquely cut for that model. You might have to do some serious work to get another head to fit on Allister's body, and vice versa to get Allister's head on the model you took the head from.

We ran into a problem as a group of new players: When you pick up a vermin resource on a hunt, when can you use it? And can anyone in the group use it? We were unsure because we got the ant and one of our members had 20+ insanity and was going to run into the dark after the antelope fight. Does it take a gear slot?
>>
>>96597120

Resources like vermin or acanthus that are gained during the hunt go next to the gear grid of the survivor that picked them up; they don't require an open gear slot to gain. Adjacent survivors can "hand off" resources during the showdown. The survivor holding a resource can use it whenever, in any phase.

I mean I guess it could be a case of "ugh these players are too good at min-maxing their turns" you just apply the same rules to the enemy turn, and make it a game where the DM can really work to challenge the players.

Lion Knight - 4/10. 0/10 if you exploit

>>
>>96619223
Have you played against Pariah and Red Witches yet? Didn't they just come out?

Agreed with most of the rest of them, Kings Man and The Hand really need a redesign. King's Man is just a gear check, if everyone has shields he's a pushover, if nobody does it's a TPK, and The Hand is super hype until you learn just don't attack him and let him do his thing and the fight ends.
>>
>>96619232
I've played against their LV.2 versions on TTS. I might change their ratings based on their final encounters but in general, their designs/lore/flavor are peak. Looking over and brainstorming their final encounters; they still seem good. Maybe RW are 8/10s since the final battle seems like a slog fighting all of them and minions.
>>
>>96619223
I like the kingsman better with the changes to his curse and the armor in I think the GC. Makes it feel a lot less like you lost a useful survivor, and I like that he encourages dagger usage and thinking about your positioning. I also dont think its bad to have a gear check sort of fight. Honestly thats something all the nemesis should do to some extent. Not my favorite node 2 nemesis, but not worthless.

>>
>>96639706
Most of the minis are plastic, resins are only for limited release figures, and most of their resins nowadays are photoresin as well. That said, both of their plastic and photoresin are extremely high quality, especially recently. Their early photoresin models were a bit touch and go, you could see the print lines on them, but the newer stuff I literally cannot see print lines without a microscope. And for the plastic kits, they went through some growing pains so it does depend on how old the kit is but the newest stuff is honestly industry leading quality. (The recent release for the False Messengers is actually one of their oldest molds and you can see the difference in quality between it and say the Red Witches in the OP).

tl;dr, quality good
>>
>>96641127
the problem is that when I pitched that to my old group, the DM went "umm no we do it my old fashioned way where everyone sits there bored as we go turn by turn"
and then when I DM'd, that same person went "umm no this is too much for me to understand please do it the lame way instead"

I don't run with that group anymore.
>>
>>96639706
Plastic kits are good, especially the later ones. But I'm going to disagree with the other anon about photoresin. While the details are magnificent, it's absurdly fragile. You might think well that's just the trade off for the convenience of resin printing at such high levels of details. Resins have come a long way and there exists far more flexible materials. But no matter how careful you are something is likely to snap like a thin piece of hair or a sword either in your hands or in transit which happened to my first run Sci-fi Pervical. My Lantern Armor Aya broke in 5 places and 1 of them was from the rest was during the painting. I've had better luck with deathgrey stuff, but at 39usd I better get my moneys worth of miniature tits and ass. If the resin kit comes with a "beta" card, you can just wait for it to come into the plastic eventually. The detail won't be as crisp and you might end up buying a more expensive kit because it might come with a painters scale model, but it'll save you from all the breakage issues.

Maybe it's just my bad luck. And even despite all the bullshit with Aya, that model is still my fav in my painted collection enough to also buy the plastic kit to paint at some point

tl;dr excellent details. fragile material
