Why do traditional games seem to attract the most socially undesirable people?

Not trolling, I seriously would like to get to the bottom of this. I don't get it, tabletop games are social in nature so why do they attract anti-social weirdos, you expect these types to stay at home and video game. Why are some games MUCH worse that other when it comes to players, ie. Warhammer 40k is worse than historical Wargames, compared MtG to Chess, etc.

Is there an explanation for this phenomenon?

Anon, I legitimately ask how old you are to not remember the satanic panic regarding so many full grown adults throwing shitfits over the idea of little timmy pretending to fight evil monsters in a board game in someone's dusty basement.

Traditional games are not a cool hobby. Until recent year, very few conventionally cool people will admit to it. So you're going to get social reprobates. The guys that don't have anywhere else to go or get pushed out of every space, whether because they deserve or they don't. It's that simple.

P.S. look for something called "The Five Geek Social Fallacies"

>>96486188
Historicals skew older (older guys just learned to mask their sperginess better) and chess doesn't have enough player interaction beyond the game itself to let people really flaunt their sperginess

Given modern times I can definitely be 'satanic panic' being the result of widespread grooming using tabletop as an in. Look at how troons will use children's games like roblox
>>
>>96486390
Also see how /pol/tards will use children's games like roblox to indoctrinate kids into their psychotic murder cult. Remember the sharty literally banned roblox discussion because it was flooding the site.

The kind of personality that makes you think its a good idea to play MtG, D&D, or Warhammer leads easily to being a pathetic subhuman. Just look around this board.
>>
>>96486407
So why are you here?
>>
I think a lot of people in the hobby are pretty sociable, if anything /tg/ complains all the time about people who are too social and normal. But it does attract huge weirdos, I think they look worse because they are pushing themselves to do something they are bad at but that's how you get better so they could be on the right track,

I think they pop up because they manufacture an ideal version of themselves and then crash with the reality of their own limitations. Instead of seeing their issues and improving they double down on their weirdness and make shit unconfortable for everyone.

>>96486202
If you remember the D&D satanic panic you're well into your 40's if not 50's. Don't expect people here to be that old.
>>
>>96486412
Yeah they're honestly not that common. I go to a convention every year and there's one bad sperg player or GM on average that I stumble into
I did once witness a loud spergfight at a neighboring table though

Being a grown adult and playing with toys tends to mean that you will get some people who haven't fully matured yet.
Also what >>96486596 said.

Its both.
>t. was into WW2 German groups back in 2012-2014. Because sci-fi groups burned me out and I still wanted to play bad guy so others could play good guy.
Groomers of all kinds are an open secret on that site anyways. You'd be ignorant to deny the existence of any kind of grooming collective on Roblox.

If you actually have the option of going to fun social outings, interacting with women, and enjoying your life, why the fuck would you ever play an rpg?
>>
>>96486202
There are no spaces to be pushed out of. The post collegiate social scene is a hellscape. Gaming was one of the few that remained which is why it’s under full on liberal assault.
>>
>>96486642
Those outings don't magically turn into Napoleonic battlefields or the women into princesses
Games of imagination are for people who have an imagination regardless of other factors

40kids are ugly
Warhammer Fantasy fans are good looking, muscular and high iq
>>
>>96486697
Don't hoist up an exception like that.
It only proves the rule that Warhammer fans (including me) are not exactly the best specimens of human beauty. You found an exception.
Like when Henry Cavil started his PR campaign about being a 40k nerd and Reddit cockgarbled him digitally.

this is totally a thing
I've seen som rules lawyers that think the game works best a certain way and want the game to go quickly as intended, obnoxious but well intended, and some that are trying to show everyone they have the biggest dick because they know how much damage falling on lava from 100ft does.
>>
>>96486642
I like the consensual sadistic fun of adding more and more complications on a gang of fictional dudes just trying to survive, or having a compilation of weird absurd shit after each door and seein how different people interact with it, or spreding tidbits of information and hear them build their own completely wrong interpretation of what's going.
You know, social interactions you don't get in another hobby.

>>96486697
lol, I remember that retard who could barely speak and repeated cliche red pill stuff. Something Thor or some other egomaniac name like that.

He's the next president of Sweden now. I bet you feel retarded now
>>
>>96486868
Sweden doesn't have a president, and if he somehow became it I'd think all of sweden is retarded.

I wanted to be an officer in the army but was scared of le boolets so instead I larp as a space man shooting le heretics and gained 25 pounds in 5 years :)))

The normies are always saying "UGH PEOPLE SUCK UGH I HATE PEOPLE SO MUCH" yet they continue to go in public and interact. Suddenly we're the weird ones for being socially awkward and not being normal.

This blog post isn't gospel but it is interesting to read and compare to your own gaming group.

Personally, I think tolerance is a virtue, but you really gotta put your money where your mouth is. And how tolerant should you be of actual harmful, destructive behavior (pedophilia, bigotry, etc.)?
>>
>>96486188
I dunno, most everyone in my group is a nice boomer with a job and a wife, and even the one dateless wonder is a perfectly normal guy. Are you sure it's not a you problem?
>>
>>96486929
Remember, there's always an important line between tolerance and acceptance.
