I want to get into some fantasy wargaming, which one of these is better?
Neither. Get into MTG instead.
>>96490104Do you like units or centerpieces? If the latter, Sigmar. If the former, Old World.I personally prefer Old World but I just like having an army of dudes.
>>96490104Does anyone around you play either of these?
>>96490113>Do you like units or centerpieces?>If the latter, Sigmar. If the former, Old World. But GW added a shit ton of ugly centerpieces to WtOW.
The one that people near you play, so you can find someone to play with.
>>96490104Neither, both are dogshite boardgame tier and played by manchildren and trannies
>>96490113tow players dont play with infantry albiet.
>>96490104AoS target audience >troons>redditorsTOW target audience >boy lovers >manchildren Your choice, OP.
>>96490104You like Herohammer? AoSYou don't? Old World.
>>96490104Sigmar is built around single mandatory centerpiece models this edition, its not that fun. Old world is a specialist game they'll drop again in two yearsThere will be a new AOS edition next year or so, id wait for that
>>96490143>hasn't read the FAQ
>>96490192>hasnt read the meta
>>96490104Old world unless you want to play a legacy army. But ultimately play the one you can actually get games for.
>>96490104AoS because uhhh uhm uhhhhhhhhhhh
>>96490143i thought dorfs were like really strong.
>>96490104Honestly I recommend getting into a fantasy miniature agnostic game. Maybe Dragon Rampant might be nice. You can still use citadel miniatures in that game so it mostly doesn’t matter which you choose.
>>96490215The meta is Cathayan infantry spam with balloon support.
>>96490104So first question is, which would you rather play?Rank and file tussle between two armies or a more skirmish-y fight between two smaller forces?
>>96490104Neither. Do not paypig for GW.
>>96490104Right is better if you want to play tabletop gamesLeft is better if you want to play video games but LARP as a tabletop player
>>96490104>which one of these is better?Oathmark.
>>96490104Neither.
>>96490104Both are horrible in their own waysAoS has insanely dumbed down rules that make it pretty boring to do anythingOld World has just insanely cancer army comps that if you're playing with the wrong people you will have 0 fun because all they do is run cavalry and monsters instead of actual armies.
>>96490104There are dozens of better fantasy wargames. IF you have to stick with GW games due to your local scene being GW-slop only, AoS is better.Still, you will play whatever your local community is playing anyway. Unless you are the one jump-starting the local fantasy wargaming scene, your preferences don't matter.
>>96490104Warmaster. The rules are free via Warmaster Revolutions, and the minis are tinier at 10mm if I recall correctly, and will better represent the scale of carnage of battles in the fluff of AoS and ToW on the tabletop. This anon gets it: >>96492000
>>96494321>Rolling to see if your unit activates and actually does what you wantNo thanks
>>96494321Hypothetically warmaster has its charms but good fucking luck actually finding a game
>>96494336Shit really? That sounds awful. >>96494343>but good fucking luck actually finding a gameThat's just life when it comes to playing /awg/ stuff.
>>96490108Advocating that anyone get into MTG in 2025 should be a permabannable offense
>>96491413this but switch left and right
>>96494350Warmaste is a game of command and maneuver. Do you go for the certain front charge, or risk moving to hit a flank?I like the command friction, it's better than just guaranteed movement.
>>96490104Old world if it has to be gw.Oathmark, Midgard, Warmaster, etc, if your willing to branch out and play fun games.
>>96490104I feel like you should be able to tell from even the most surface of level of each, even from just looking at some art and models, which one appeals to you most. They have a very obviously different vibe and focus. And in terms of gameplay again one glance shows a difference of gameplay so huge its probably enough to make a determination off of-one is a rank and file game that looks more like real historical battles, one is a game of blob units seperated into stand alone models like a super unrealistic battle scene in a movie. Whichever one of those sounds like the kind of gameplay you'd like more will probably lead you to make the right decision in light of the rest of the rules. Personally I think the old world lore and world and look is so absurdly, infinitely better its a night and day difference and I'd always go with that. But if I put myself in the mindset of someone who might like AoS more it would be really easy, at first glance, to tell it appeals to me more.
