>3 Imperial Guard Regiment. A true regiment, drilled and competent in their service

No mere PDF unit or Penal formation are we. Our Guardsmen are an honest to Emperor Guard Regiment, with all of the duties, deployments and realities that implies. One of countless.

That said, many Guard Regiments have different ways of recruiting soldiers.

What is ours?

>Caste-born: Raised from birth as the warrior caste of their society, these soldiers make up in training and pedigree what they lack in experienced.
>This also means we take Elite Tithe by default

Our Homeworld seems to have a Caste System in place, formalizing societal functions at birth.

In our Regiment’s case, this has meant that fulfilling our obligation to the Imperium has come in the form of the cream of our Warrior Caste.

Born to battle, trained to War, our Guardsmen have know from birth what is expected of them.

Hopefully they honor that expectation

Now then, speaking of our Homeworld…what is it? What type of world?

>Agri-World: Sturdy, hard-working types, glad to be off the farm.

Some men are meant to till the soil their entire lives(or operate enormous machinery etc), and our Homeworld is a productive Agriworld.

As an Agriworld, it is charged with providing enormous amounts of foodstuff material to the Imperium at large, with the entire planet’s primary function being this.

Of course, it is unlikely our Guardsmen have ever touched a shovel or hoe in their lives, being Warrior Caste.

While the Farmer caste produces the material, they can count on us to have their backs if danger calls. Fair, right?

Still, what else do we know about home?

>Jungle/Swamp: Masters of stealth and inured to disease.

>Agriworld that’s also a Jungle/Swamp world…maybe we grow Fruit? lol

Our home planet is covered in hot, humid swamps and/or jungles, not exactly what one thinks of when the term “Agriworld” is thrown around, but clearly the bounty we produce is great enough to earn that official stamp of designation.

In any case, our Guardsmen have dealt with their share of tropical diseases as a result, and aren’t going to pass out and die from some pussy shit like Malaria

Now then, that’s Home, but what about the Regiment itself? Our Warrior Caste troopers have a favored, core unit type

What type of regiment are we?

>Infantry Regiment: Large groups of on-foot infantry of all stripes comprise the core of this Regiment's forces. Who needs vehicles when you've enough bodies to drown the enemy? Can also be referred to as Line Infantry or Medium Infantry

Sweet and simple eh? We are an Infantry Regiment, the backbone of the Astra Militarum as a whole. Those who oppose us face the lasguns and courage of the Imperial Guard!

Of course, just because we are an Infantry Regiment, that doesn’t necessarily mean our only strategy is drowning the enemy in bodies.

How do we prefer to fight? What’s our niche?

>Counter: Trained and organised to fight a specific foe. They're good at breaking them over their knee, but tend to struggle, or rather show aggressive mediocrity, against other foes.

>I suppose it will be whoever we roll on the Enemy table later?

Most intriguing! Our Regiment seems to have adapted to fighting a specific enemy. Whether that be a Xenos race, the forces of a specific Chaos god, or something else, we are known for that.

Of course, being specialists, we have become somewhat lacking in other war fields. This doesn’t mean we cannot be used outside our niche enemy, but a wise commander would certainly remember what our purpose is.

Now then, the Imperial Cult is an ever present force in the Imperium, and the Imperium is a demanding mistress

How’s our Loyalty?

>Fanatical: No remorse, no retreat, no fear. They would sooner die to the last than do anything to shame the Emperor.

FOR THE EMPEROR! FOR THE IMPERIUUUUUUUUUM!!!!

Our regiment can best be described as fanatical devotees of the Imperial doctrine. Raised from birth to fight, our caste-guardsmen know what is expected, and Who expects it. Because He does.

The Emperor!

With that settled, many Regiments pick up unusual gear or equipment over years of service. What’s ours?

Just a bunch of elite guard used to fighting in the swamps and jungles of their homeworld. Probably some pest or predator that runs rampant. A constant battle to claim? Reclaim their world. But whatever it is they're more than qualified to handle this one type of foe.

Not so much elite guardsmen as professional big? game hunters, or bug squashers.

>Rare Heavy Weapon: The regiment has access to some rare weapon that the rest of the Guard lacks, like heavy plasma cannons or more esoteric devices such as grav-guns.

Our Regiment is lucky enough to have gotten its hands on some rather non-standard issue heavy weapons. How we managed to arrange this is less important than the fact that we have them-and undoubtedly this has come in handy on many occasions.

If The enemy expects little more than lascannons and rocket launchers from us, they are sorely mistaken….

Apart from our faith in Big E, what really gets our Guardsmen up in the morning? How do they feel about their purpose and goals in general?

>Best of the Best: The regiment believes itself to be elite and constantly strives to prove itself

Every warrior in Our Regiment knows that they were raised for combat and aren’t shy about demonstrating that. They seek the glory and recognition of having their skills recognized by the wider Imperium. We are the best! Warriors born! Can a simple farmhand volunteer or backwater conscript truly equal us?

At our best, this could manifest as an unending desire to spread victory and order for the imperial guard, being showered with accolades along the way

At our worst, we may view lesser regiments(read, everyone but the Tempestus probably) as disdain worthy non-castes who need to prove themselves even harder.

>Famous: Known in Segmentum, obscure in close portions of neighbor Segmenta, very obscure galactically

Well fair enough. Our Regiment has earned a sterling reputation in the local Segmentum, though our occasional forays into neighboring Segmenta have not earned us our deserved fame there.

We still have work to do, although being well known and respected in a Segmentum is still an accomplishment by any means.

In any case, every Regiment needs friends. Over the period of our service our Regiment has become particularly close with….

>Uluméathic League
>Nightmare Engines of the Pale Wasting

Most exotic.

The League are a fairly obscure Xenos race these days, though they once prodded at the edges of imperial space. They ran afoul of the Tyranids, who devoured many of their worlds, and were ultimately saved only due to the direct intervention of the Eldar(this is basically everything in canon about them), and are these days a hollow shell of a “empire”

The Nightmare Engines are almost as obscure, from the Ghoul Stars, having been the main villains of the Pale Wasting, a terrible conflict in the far past that saw around a dozen chapters of Astartes destroyed, with the Novamarines as the only survivors. Since then, they seem to have been contained within the Ghoul Stars.

A strange pair of foes, but worthy no doubt of our skills!

Aaaaand that’s all folks from the charts

So in summary we have an infantry regiment raised from among a hereditary warrior class on an agri world that is mostly swamp and or jungle, who are very specialized into fighting against a certain pho while enjoying exotic, heavy weaponry, and are also fanatical followers of the emperor

Our buddies of choices are Guard from a specific world, we view ourselves as elite and worthy of glory, actively seeking it out, and our arch-foes are two very obscure Xenos races, one of which got raped by the Tyranids and the other a terrible foe of legend that even a crusade of Astartes barely defeated

Fun!

Thoughts? I liked the samurai idea someone mentioned.

I do think these guys would probably respect the death korps yeh

Being raised to war is something they can relate with and the Kriegers still outpace them in psychotic fanaticism and self sacrifice so they have something to work towards

An entire planet given over to a war caste sounds like they’d enjoy their company, even if there wouldn’t be much hand shaking involved given, well, Kriegers
>>
>>96505112
The best part about this idea is that “Tennō Heika Banzai!!!” Still completely works in context
>>
I would go the route of having their particular warrior caste having solidified its place in the social hiearchy as a way of keeping them in line with heavy doses of indoctrination of Imperial flavored Bushido.

Perhaps the different families hold competitions with each other to see who gets to lead when called upon to go fight off-world.
>>
>entirely swamp agriculture
>known for fighting in jungles
>special weapons, likely heavy flamers on a platoon level
>famous for their skills
>sent out for likely anti-insurgency ops on other planets, aided the cadians/catachan in their deployments
>all skilled and raised for this lifestyle

So it's either space gurkha, space vietminh, or space burmese. hell you could even make the special weapon bolters so their elite have the musculature (or bionics) to wield them in that case, it would explain how they're fighting a xenos coalition with one of them known for wiping out fucking astartes chapters in totality.

>Every decade, the chosen caste begins the Reaping Festival, a bloody pogrom rooting out dissidents within the worker castes; those weak peasents who neglect their quotas, those profligates who eat more than their alloted rations, those subversives who decry the brutal caste system, and so on. Though the meagre Arbites presence officially condones this rigid enforcement of law, the actual crimes of those killed are often arbitrary, and the taking of tallies presents the festival more as an opportunity for the warrior caste houses to prove their valour than for any real judiciary end.
