Wait guys. Bros. Here me out. I know how to save the format. Bring back tuck effects for commanders.>Hinder>Hallowed BurialIt will help revitalized the format by not having so many decks be centered and reliant on their commander, which is a good thing.
Every time I try to build this jolly fuck I come out with no deck and a headache. Anyone got cool lists for him I can steal ideas from?
>costs like 8 euro Holy shit fuck wizards for never reprinting some staple uncommons for literally no reason
>>96505659>137 cards where the color identity ≤ GUW and it’s legal in Commander and the card types include “golem”Seems pretty straightforward to me. Include the ETB/LTB ones to double up on their stuff because you get a copy when they die
>try to make a low-power deck >finish >ah this can make it better >oh this card is a nice upgrade >this helps my combo >this speeds it up a bit >this covers my weakness>now it's too strong >rip it up and start from the beginning again how do I stop
>>96505664That one's gonna be a pain to see a reprint of too, since it's MDFC AND fuckin' tied to a specific plane. We basically have no chance of seeing it reprinted in any meaningful capacity unless they go back to zendikar or if it makes it into a masters set.
UB is at its best when it's a setting that doesn't fit mtg's aesthetic. What's the point of wanting more sets that are LOTR-lite when mtg planes are already LOTR-lite? Shouldn't UB planes feel distinct? Shouldn't all planes feel distinct? Then again mtg's aesthetic is cowboys piloting racecars and spaceships now so maybe LOTR doesn't fit the mtg aesthetic at this point.

>>96505976Fuckin knew it

>>96506042nta, but Arena has a sketchy-ass shuffler, along with a hidden ELO system, and card weighing to affect match-making. As someone who appreciates the presentation of MTG:A, I can understand not liking it, and rejecting it on a conceptual level. Also, despite the automation of the client, the concept of a token cap is mad gayalso also, the limited card pool really pisses me off.oh, don't even get me started in alchemy...actually, I think I really hate Arena.
>>96506042>not true random shuffler>numerous bugs for how cards interact>doesn't have all the cardsit's not trve magic
>>96506053he cute
>>96506058>>96506061The shuffled thing is a myth btw, it had issues at launch but the guy who exposed those issues with a large scale study later came out and said they fixed it and that draws are within statistical expectation now.
>>96506086ok>numerous bugs for how cards interact>doesn't have all the cardsstill not trve magic
>>96506058The token cap is the only thing on that list I'll defend. Since it's almost certainly a programming limitation. They almost certainly could fix it, but it's likely more trouble than it's worthAlchemy is an abomination though and will literally never cease to piss me off. It should've been a format that they dump test cards into to see how they interact and can be tweaked on the fly before going to print. But instead of utilizing the digital nature for the overall betterment of the game, the used it to make a parasitic format that's unplayable outside of arena and will cease to exist when the servers go down.
>>96506093I think most bugs are rather minor issues but yeah the card selection sucks. Can't believe they just skipped Innistrad Remastered, that set has so many awesome cards.
>>96506096I hate that Brawl has alchemy cards in it and there's no other commander format
>>96506096>Need to explicitly state a 'Game' to be 'Paper' when searching cards on scryfall, because it can contaminate search results with dogshit fake cards brewed by retards if I don'tVERY cool
>>96506086The fact that it had "issues" at launch is still a black mark against them. Could they be unintentional? Definitely. But I just flat out wouldn't trust a company like Hasbro to have a system like that be an accident. The only reason it's gone is cause they got called out for it.
>>96506058>Arena has a sketchy-ass shufflerOfficially only in best of one. >along with a hidden ELO systemCan't speak to this one.>and card weighing to affect match-making.Officially only in Brawl.Still better than trying to play on Spreadsheet the Gathering.
>>96505659It is very frustrating the build because the card is so fun there are so many different ways to build it.>>96505677I am working on a build that focuses on the golem support and making 1/1 creatures support but oddly enough when I look at what other decks do most people seem to ignore that. Lot of other decks go with food support. It's tough trying to mix that idea with golems but boy I am trying.
>>96506109Brawl's another format that will die immediately upon arena's death. Or rather, go back to being dead, since there was a bit of time where it WAS dead before they reanimated that cadaver to have a commander-like in arena. It will never not be funny that wizards durdled so fucking hard with Arena's development and rollout, that they accidentally managed to fully kill standard in that time.>>96506111Unironically scryfall should just default to not having those show up in search results.Planechase and the like don't fucking show up by default, why the hell should alchemy?
What is the best tech for this bad boy? I want to build him as chaos stax.
>>96506027Legacy will always have a tiny player base due to RL price capping new players out
>>96506154Probably the usual trigger doubling stuff, alongside other cards that reward people attacking your opponents
>>96505659This guy feels like he'd be decently easy to make a list from. Good amount of enter the battle creatures and some sacrifice outlets to enable doubling up on things. Then some of the good splicers to buff the golems. What about the deck usually trips you up? I remember considering him a while back as well but just never got around to it.
>>96505571I usually like to start with whatever deck I was tinkering with throughout the week leading up to game night. Get an idea on how the stuff I've been considering and put in works and what I still think needs work on. The last couple weeks I've been working on Six so it would probably be him. Then as the night goes on I'll either keep with that deck or move around depending on the vibe of the table.

Especially for things like Doctor Who and this set. That these all visit various planes for their inspiration is great and feels like it would have made a good "around the magic universes" set where they just go around all the planes for a couple of cards. The theming of making some of the villains arena pit fighters is cool way to work around some of the limitations.
>>96506565right one fits a lot better with the effect -Repair- should be something that returns to the battlefield, not to your hand

>>96506586>some new capenna boxing/wrestling thingThere's a few cards that are in what looks to be Capenna and even a few with the boxing fight club theme, but they didn't really fully commit to making it a full in set theme like they should have. It would have been an clean way to make both heroes and villains all work by being wrestlers for entertainment and money in Capenna. I guess there hasn't been many spiders in Capenna so they didn't commit to the bit?
>>96506546So is there any way to get high quality rips of the art from Arena? Usually the art from the game looks weirdly unfocused and has low quality shots. I would have really liked to have some of these as cards with these arts.

JUST A REMINDER: the reason wotc has started to put robots, aliens, race cars, and whatever else into magic lore has one sole reason and it isn't because the designers think the aesthetic should evolve. the reason for it is that one of the main complaints about universes beyond from the very beginning was "this property does not fit with magic's aesthetic". 40K was accepted because it mostly fit the aesthetic/vibe. lord of the rings was accepted because it fit the aesthetic/vibe. final fantasy was accepted because it fit the aesthetic/vibe. spongebob, stranger things, street fighter, walking dead, etc. were all complained about because the were major breaks in the aesthetic. by branching out what the magic IP's aesthetic is with universes within, the wider array of outside IPs that can be used for universes beyond can be used with minimal complaint from the consumer base. oh, you are going to complain about spock or captain kirk on a card or the enterprise as a vehicle? but it already fits the aesthetic! look, we have edge of eternities to show you that sstar trek DOES fit the aesthetics of mtg!i have no qualms with the expanding aesthetics of magic except for the fact that it was done for the most cynical, money grubbing reason.

>>96506855>>96506872i'm right.>>96506866except it was. there were still people who complained about it, for sure. but the overwhelming response for 40K, the first full set/product (as in no a secret lair or alt art treatment like godzilla), was that it could have been much worse and at least they did it with something that has a semi-similar aesthetic and is probably something that a lot of players are already into (seeing as a lot of tcg players are also tabletop gamers as well). sure, it is more sci-fi than magic had really been at that point, but they were already starting to push the boundaries with neon dynasty cyberpunk aesthetics (probably also testing the waters there because they already had an idea from market research surveys about how players feel about UB aesthetics clashing with UW aesthetics and wanted to test with NEO to see how players would respond to a shift in magic's aesthetics that allow for a broader range of IPs that won't clash with that aesthetic).>>96506882there has always been an expanding and shifting sense of what "should" be allowed in the creative team's eyes, but the extent that i am talking about is what allowed a cheerleader in sneakers and CRT screens to show up on duskmourne.

>>96507507>demons>mechanical horror>leaves out literally everything elseYou cant pick and choose, its all a package deal. The closest thing mtg has to 40k is the brother war and that was an apocalyptic event, not standard fare.People bought the 40k set because it was 40k themed not because it worked well with mtgAlso the power level was more usable than other ub sets.
Just give me actual warhammer fantasy already. The aesthetic fits and we would get a lot of tribal support to dwarfs, elves, rats, and various undead factions. There's more than enough to easily make a full set, unlike spiderman which clearly struggled to fill out its extra slots.
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/08-09-25-yeva/?cb=1757342166I made this yeva deck using EDH rec, cards I remember from back in the day, and also other tappedout lists. It was originally weaker. I was aiming for around 50-60 USD but it comes out to over 100 which is still alright I suppose. Here are some questions I have>I have lots of ramp spells and mana elves. Are they redundant or do I need even more?>do I need more card draw?>are my finishers (overrun effects) sufficient? I added Garruk for and extra overrun>is bow of nylea enough recursion?>What are my high-priority tutor targets with fauna shaman, woodland bellower and Mwonvuli beast tracker?>Do I need more artifact and enchantment hate?>How do I protect from/mitigate/play around wrath effects?I'm proxxying the sol ring cause it's ridiculous how impossible they are to get when you can own one copy and resleeve it every time you play a different deck. I don't even own a copy, just a rules card with a neon green sticky note on it. even after dozens of reprints people buy a new copy for each of their 15 decks. Meanwhile 14 of them are sitting in the deck box doing nothing at any given time. You can only play 1 deck at a time!!!I have also chosen to not put in seedborn muse. It's expensive and seems too strong, almost unfun for everyone else. I'm afraid of the deck being too strong since Yeva is really strong and versatile. But I also fear that the one-dimensional strategy of mono green stomp can get kneecapped by designed-for-commander fuckery cards and control.
>>96507553>you can't pick and chooseArmored humans/knights, genetically modified warriors, huge war machines, demons, and mechanical horror, then. Still works great since we have Phyrexia and Mirrodin.
>>96507584>conveniently leaves out the most iconic thing about the settingWell i guess this conversation is over
Somebody once told me that nobody ITT actually talks about the game. I thought they were just joking or being hyperbolice but I'm starting to see that's the case. This might be the worst AND fastest moving thread on /tg/ next to the 40k generalanyway do you guys have any favorite pieces of basic land art?
>>96507553>leaves out literally everything elseoh, like tyranids? because magic doesn't have beasts and bug monsters either, right? space marines? they look like big armoured dudes, which magic has. the biggest departures to the aesthetic that 40K had were guns and spaceships.>People bought the 40k set because it was 40k themed not because it worked well with mtgyou misunderstand the argument. it isn't that people bought it *because* it fit aesthetically, it is that enfranchised players were not as repulsed by an outside IP as they were things like jurassic park and spongebob. 40k, lotr, and FF were more well received by naysayers than stranger things, walking dead, transformers, etc. because the aesthetic departure of the former listed IPs is a lot less than the departure of the latter listed IPs. if you are denying that there has not been a very vocal point made over the years about what outside IP makes a good 'fit' for mtg (usually some form of sword & sorcery type thing or some IP that spun out off a riff on D&D), you are just telling me that you aren't very in tune with what anyone is saying. the point has been made ad nauseum that something like 40K is a better fit for mtg than something like spiderman.>The closest thing mtg has to 40k is the brother war and that was an apocalyptic event, not standard fare.brothers war released a month after the 40K decks, making it seem a lot less out of place. plus, all the individual elements described can be found spread across many planes, but the main plane (dominaria) has enough 40K parallels to make the aesthetic not seem out of place. but then factor in shit from innistrad and kaladesh and anything to do with the eldrazi and you get enough to make up the difference.
>>96507611what is, in your mind, the most iconic thing about the setting?>space marinesgenetically modified warriors are in mtg and ravnican giants are about the size/build of a space marine. >the warpblind eternities and the eldrazi>god emperoryawgmoth
>>96507611We get it you hate big pauldrons
>>96507619Funnily enough, you posted my favorite mtg basic art. The way the 4 mountains fit together and the beautiful OG Kamigawa aesthetic kills me. I actually have a set of them, but I considered if I ever do mono-red, splitting my lands evenly between them so I can lay them out like that.
>>96507507If they cared about wh fitting they woulda done wh fantasyBut they dontThey care about money so they did 40k>the ub frameUb frames are not universal, the 40k one is pretty bad
>>96507619Posting john avon is cheating, he is a god of landscape art. I really REALLY hope the new lorwyn lands don't suck.
>>96507567I feel like the thing with this commander is you want to be able to hold up mana to run creatures that interact when they enter or are cast when it's convenient. Also what are you using cards like ghalta for besides being big? How are you leveraging the unique thing your commander does to build a deck that's gonna feel new and fresh for you?
If YOU could make a 4 color commander, anon, what would it be?
>>96507626>>96507634The bolter you actual retardsThe automatic handheld rocket launcher Nobody sees a space marine and goes>oh he must be genetically alteredThey see a a dude with a gun, its a sci-fi set. No contest its better than fallout or spoodermin but i wouldnt put it next to lotr or ff.
>>96507659>If they cared about wh fitting they woulda done wh fantasythat is also not the claim that was made. your reading comprehension is abysmal. i am not even making complex claims or obfuscating my point. i have been very plain when getting my point across.>Ub frames are not universalyes they are. since 40K, they have used one frame for anything that isn't alt art/booster fun bullshit.
>>96507695I wouldn't 4c historically has been a massive problem for all highlander formats, not just edh. Creating more would not benefit the format. You know what? Ban partners and we can talk.
>>96506553No it doesnt lmao it looks passable (which is what it is, a tranny card passing as mtg)
>>96506573This is such a bad card its hilarious
If I want to be an annoying little shit with Slivers, which Sliver should be my commander? I've got everyone but Queen (Legion, Hivelord, Overlord, Gravemother, First). Overlord seemed good to me, since he can ftutor out all other Slivers with his ability.
>>96507349>Do I get to make copies of the stolen creatures when I sac them? Ok didn't know it worked like thatYes, it says when a creature you control dies. You don't need to own it.
>>96505677TRIBAL BRAIN LMAO HOLY FUCK THIS IS RETARDED HE MAKES EVERYTHING INTO A GOLEM YOU MORON AHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH
>>96507247>Now I'm not sure if they meant big anime titties AI proxies or bootleg stuffNeither are real cards, and thus the point is moot.
>dogshit set>now I have to look at it twice because people wanna pretend they magically love it when it transitions StMNo conviction and stop posting cards that have already been posted this isnt arena just shitting up the thread
>>96507231>IncalKino, just came back from reading Metabarons. Not Moebius, but same writer.
>>96507702>The bolter you actual retardsthe bolter is not more iconic than the space marine itself. a specific gun is not the most iconic thing.>They see a a dude with a gun, its a sci-fi set.guns have existed in magic before AND i mentioned that guns and being in space were the only real big departures of the aesthetics. YES it is sci-fi, NO it is not entirely incompatible. magic also has a bunch of sci-fi elements like cyborgs, automatons, genetic alterations, and more. the whole point is not that 40K is exactly the same as mtg, the point is that 40K is close enough that it was far less offensive of a departure than many crossovers. the point is that mtg is expanding the IPs aesthetic sensibilities in an attempt to curb UB naysayers who do so under the banner of "it ruins the aesthetic sensibilities of the game". you're such an autistic pedant that you literally can't understand what is being said.>i wouldnt put it next to lotr or ff.FF is also scifi and has guns/gun swords. mtg is actually closer to 40K than lotr.
>>96506842I think AtLA fitLiterally they should just stick with fantasy, there's no shortage of big fantasy franchises
>>96507709>im not obfuscating>except when I turn a blind eye to every thing scifi in the setting and focus entirely on the fantasy aspects >ub frames I guess so, looking at it closerThe 40k cards stick out like such a sore thumb in any decklist i assumed there was somethingIs it the foil treatment? I guess it could be the art clashing too.
I'm fine with UB personally
Sex with goblins
Literally NO UB lore belongs in magic. Nothing fits. FF didnt fit, Dr Who doesn't fit, 40k doesnt fit, lotr doesnt fit nothing fits because we all KNOW these are separate IPs and separate lore. We just lied to ourselves but deep down everyone knows nothing but magic (despite your opinions on its lore and aesthetics) fit in magic. Everything else is a stretch from the get go.
>>96506402He's fine, he'd probably see more play if he wasnt locked to mardu>>96506652Unironcally it just needs a better ban list>>96506865He would be simic in paper, the only reason he isn't in arena is because merfolk are simic on ixalan and the cats are selesnya>>96507619This gen is full of troon obsessed weirdos who don't play the game and just want to be mad. In terms of lands I really liked the full art seasonal lands from Bloomburrow>>96507721Case and point btw >>96507737>Yes, it says when a creature you control dies.I assumed needing to exile it meant I would need to control it in my graveyard for the ability to resolve
>>96507798>Exile it instead It never goes to the graveyard when his ability triggers
>>96507619Loved the stained glass lands from Dominaria United nothing beat them yet imo
>>96507798>case and pointIts case in point you mouthbreathing dumb fuck. And slapping a different coat of makeup on something and calling it something else IS trannyism. That post is talking about the game by the way loterally as much as yours.
>>96507805Ah shit do I miss dies triggers then or no? My understanding was the creature dies, Brenard triggers, and then I get to exile the card as it's hitting the grave
>>96507831>slapping a different coat of makeup on something and calling it something else IS trannyism. So every land in the game especially snow lands are trannies?
>>96507839Depends on the wording of the effect. Some will put them into exile instead, in that case they never hit the graveyard. Others will say when a card is put into your graveyard do..... those will trigger him.
>>96507775>except when I turn a blind eye to every thing scifi in the setting and focus entirely on the fantasy aspectsi never claimed it wasn't sci fi. i even brought up "guns and spaceships" specifically as the biggest departures to magic's aesthetics. and i am not obfuscating the point because i stated it very clearly multiple times that despite the differences to magic's aesthetics, 40K was less offensive to enfranchised players than some of the other UB products that have come out. i never claimed that it was a PERFECT 1:1 fit, just that they are close enough that there were less complaints than if the first UB commander deck had been something like the simpsons.>The 40k cards stick out like such a sore thumb in any decklist i assumed there was somethingyou are remembering your initial reaction to a new frame more than anything. when 40K came out, they were the only UB cards with the frame, which made them stick out. you remember that and the memory alters your perception despite the frame being the same other UB products.>>96507787i am talking about aesthetics and vibes, not actual lore.
>>96507846>>96506842Final Fantasy was called UB slop what do you mean it was accepted? People just stopped talking about it because of Spiderman.
>>96507831Shit I fucked up a phrase that totally makes you sound less deranged and obsessed>And slapping a different coat of makeup on something and calling it something else IS trannyism. >"everything is literally the most recent thing that I hate"Oh wait >literallyHaha it's literally spelled "literally" you retard>>96507842Snow lands are white face
>>96507857>Final Fantasy was called UB slopby literally who? this thread? r/freemagic? yeah wow like 100 people at most.
>>96507872yes we're going by these threads unless you want to go by a youtubers opinion.
