>>96515528If you're talking about the part about not casting while holding a shield, that's always been a thing, that's why the War Caster feat specifically allows you to do that as one of its benefits. It's just rarely enforced.

>>96516650Not quite. You can cast just fine with a shield and your other hand free. Or in a Cleric's case, a shield with a holy symbol emblem allows you to cast VSM spells just fine, since you can perform the somatic components with a spellcasting focus as long as the spell has material components. The only thing you need War Caster for is for VS or S spells while wielding a shield and a weapon.
