How does /chess/ feel about vertical castling? Pretty sure FIDE says it's illegal but the circumstances it'd come up are so rare I think it ought to be allowed just as a fun meme move.
>>96527626It sounds like one of those weird variants no one will ever play (torpedo pawns and similar).

>>96533201There is one: https://chess-results.com/tnr1246286.aspx?lan=1&art=0&turdet=YES&flag=30there isn't a "men" division, they make that one "open" so that the women can choose to join it if they like.

REMINDERSaturday there will be the Titled Arena on Lichess. You can play the Warm-up tournament that starts 2 hours earlier and has a little prize money: https://lichess.org/tournament/sep25wua

>>96572691Nice one, it's 1. Qb8+ Kg7 2. Nxe6+! fxe6 3. Qa7+ picking up the rook. If 2...Kf6 or 2...Kh6 the rook is hanging The first move was obvious but the second one is what you just have to see. I first saw the idea of Rxf6 but it was not forcing and didn't gain too much material The resulting position is not even too easy either I dont think.
RIP coolmathgames? getting TLS cert error (domain mismatch=suspicious)
>>96575307somehow I suspect the #1 rule is to actually play a lot, not just few games a week

sometimes i feel like playing chess is mostly like this punnett square of- i lose. i never had a chance, i developed fully but just kept losing space and analysis doesn't really make it clear where i lost. i gain nothing from the experience. rarely, i might lost to some weird trap that doesn't even seem to be in the database but my opponent found INSTANTLY- i lose. i was better at some point, even up 1-3 points of material with no clear long-term weaknesses and then my opponent seemed to hunker down under pressure and my advantage slowly vanishes. a lot of times my opponents seem to have no trouble quickly finding draw-ish moves and i kind of just clock out before i can convert even though i'm still better or winning- i win. my opponent doesn't understand how to pick the right time control for themselves. they either played like it's bullet and blundered bad IMMEDIATELY, or resigned early in rapid/classical in a position i don't fully understand myself- i win. like, in any given position during the game, i'm winning even if it's my opponent's move. that kind of winning. i win after like a combined 80% of both players' clock time has been used and i'm too burnt out to play anymore
If you go to an OTB tournament, would you prefer to play against a blonde or ...
>>96591108... a brunette?

I wonder why not many people play Bughouse. It's fun and you don't need to memorize openings.
