T28 looks fun. Is it worth making an army and trying to play a few games?
I've never played Warhammer if that makes any difference.
>>
Doesn't matter how good the game is if you can't find anyone to play it with. So look into that first, then worry about the rest.
>>
>>96533151
If you've got someone to play with, then absolutely.
As a first modelling project, also yes; it's cheap to get the materials, the aesthetic is clearly defined and simple to execute, and if you've got any sort of sense of humour or ability to express yourself visually then there's loads of extra potential.

I'm a Sludge man.

>>96533178
Disagree if you like kitbashing.
>>
>>96533795
I've gotten into painting models. Just stuff for the dnd game I'm a player in, the one I run is online so models would be redundant. So if by modelling project you mean an army then yes it'd be my first.
>>96533855
Paintings fun haven't gotten crazy swapping bits around yet.
>>96533178
Honestly, if I had a pair of armies I've got a friend or two I think I could talk into playing with me. No idea of the local scene. I've seen some of them playing Star Wars Legion.
>>
>>96533151
Trying a few games with proxies, paper, whatever to see if you like the rules is not a bad idea before you put significant amount of time into a project but you can always use them for a different game. The police will not break into your house if you use them for whatever games you want.
Worst case you have made something that was an enjoyable hobby time creating a thing.

Fun thing about turnip is that you dont need to search for grogs that are looking for getting full in alternate wargame. The core rules without getting into dedicated factions are really easy and gameplay is fast, so as long as you can provide the minis by yourself (and you actually can slap basic units together pretty fast and reasonably cheap ) , you can easily fish among guys outside wargaming circles - peeps who play boardgames, RPG crowd, MTG players or pretty much any other autismo that does not hate the concept of tg on general principle.

Turnip28 is the most based wargame out there.
>free, simple rules
>list building takes 5 minutes
>the aesthetic is strong, but you can use any minis you want
>low skill modeling and painting still looks good
>>
I haven't tried it yet, but I appreciate how it's a 28-style game that's not just another 5-10 model per side skirmish system. It's still low-figure, but not as much as its cohorts.
>>
>>96533151
Did you not play Warhammer previously because you just weren't into it, or because you're a massive gaping supermassive black hole of snide, elitist, self-absorbed, incredibly homosexual snobbery, basically the wargaming equivalent of the ponciest winefag?

If the latter, you will *love* T28, because it's basically Warhammer for instagram poofters who never play games and think they're above mere wargamers.
>>
I don't get a chance to play it because my LGS doesn't provide that level of autism, but it was a fun modelling opportunity. I've got some models I made that I'll have to go take pictures of for the thread.
>>
>>96542653
I've not played any wargame excluding Domains at War and that is only in the last year. The only people I think I'm above are the Trading Card Game faggots. I don't want to get into Warhammer because it's notoriously expensive and am trying to get ahead of my mortgage at the moment.

Please do :).

Oh wow, an actual New Guy. Welcome :)

I won't try to push you into Warhammer, GW hardly need any help filling the ranks of the cult, but I will say if you *want* to play Warhammer don't let the cost thing put you off completely. It's absolutely true, but also somewhat avoidable either through sticking to their smaller games(nu-Necromunda, Warcry, AT), playing their older games if you have a local scene for those(classic-Necromunda, Mordheim, Epic, BFG, GorkaMorka, 2nd or 4th 40K and 6th WHFB are all great and not *totally* impossible to find players for if you're willing to do a bit of legwork), or various combinations of third party models and 3D printing(assuming you're not stuck playing in a GW store). So long as you steer clear of the current editions of their main systems(AoS, 40K, Heresy, TOW) which all run on a toxic brew of "meta shifts" to bleed tournament gamers and FOMO for the model-first guys, it is possible to enjoy Warhammer games & settings for a cost comparable to alternatives.

That said, unless you're super into it on its own merits or there's an established well-attended local scene you want to join in with, Turnip and similar "mudcore" things like Trench Crusade are probably the last things I'd recommend to a newbie gamer. All joking aside, they really kind of do live and die on Instagram more than IRL, you're not going to find them played in most places and building a scene from scratch for such a niche game is a bit much to take on as your first wargaming experience.

DESU if you're looking for something you'll actually get to play, that has a decent variety of stuff to paint, and that doesn't cost a fortune, you really can't beat historicals. They're played pretty much everywhere, the plastic kits are often dirt cheap, and starting off with Napoleonics or WW2 means you'll be building up a decent bitzbox you can use to get into Turnip or Konflikt '47 and other "spinoff" pseudohistory settings when the opportunity arises.

It's going to take off once everyone realizes Trench Crusade was a scam. Start converting/painting now.

suffers from the same problem all alt wargames even the side products from GW have for me. Lack of support leads to smaller communities which fade. It takes me years to finish an army because I paint slowly. I would rather there still be a scene when I'm ready to play. It's more about chances of longevity for me

Well, I remember when I started painting my Khorne Daemonkin back in 7th when their "codex" was released and guess what? By the time I was halfway through both 7th edition and Khorne Daemonkin were no more. Similar experience with 13th Company back in the day, still have 6-9 bikes in various stages of completeness and loads upon loads of old CSM and SW bits.

>Turnip 28. Yay or nay?
Yeah. Seems fun. The creator's progress was slowed down due to his apartment flooding while he was abroad but he's still working on the Shattered Lance expansion.
>>
It’s a fun modeling proyect even if you don’t play. I found really liberating to build these guys and that made me want to convert stuff for other, more popular, commercial games.

If you are in Europe there are a few events in the UK and in Eastern Europe. Germany too I think, but don’t quote me on that.

I can't be bothered to find it, but assume I posted the utterly dead-on meme of the SJW wearing the normal person mask insisting that anti-SJW are worse.

>if you call out my fruity faggot hysterics you're secretly in my outgroup!
All you're doing is reinforcing what an annoying turd you are
Gaslands is the only non-historical I've played the last decade, you're truly just a cunt

Jesus Christ you sound like an insufferable reddit-loving faggot.

Turnip is cool but it kneecapped itself with lore that very explicitly stated that all animals are dead. I hope that gets retconned out because making mutant horses and attack dogs seems obvious
>>
>>96555467
it has been, there's even an elephant unit called the great probiscus now.
>>
Anything endorsed by ben apocrypha is fucking shit. Max is alright but a bit of a fag as well. The game is quite alright but nothing to write home about. Ive found it to mostly be instagram post hobby fodder.

Why dont you just save time and write all the gay copes you're going to use in one post

There's plenty of "animals," born out of the root's dreams of the old world.

Look I'm sorry that outside your faggoty little hugboxes on insta and FB you have to encounter the reality that most people hold you and your sad little "movement" in disdain, but get over it yeah.

unironically something I consider when picking an army. Like Idoneth Deepkin or something, I consider how niche and how likely its gonna get continued support.
>>
>>96565227
>Gaslands is the only non-historical I've played the last decade, you're truly just a cunt
Which part of that are you struggling to understand?
The more you cope and mald the more you prove me right, you are way more of an annoying faggot than some fans gluing static grass on perry figs, which you have to actively seek out in order to be pissed off about. Which you do, as a hobby, because you're a truly worthless autistic untetmensch
>>
>>96565227
Didn't ask and didn't read, loser. Keep whining and throwing your tantrum if you want fag, I ain't listen.
