TQ:I have some odds and ends mostly. Some unbuilt Crisis Suits and a Commander, and some infantry. Most everything but my Devilfish is built or mostly built except for drones. I'm still converting some things here and there though.

Same question as last thread, more succinctly:
My Ret Cadre 1000pt Tau are in trouble with the point changes:
- Farsight and Sunforge Suits
- Coldstar and Starscythe Suits
- Darkstrider and Pathfinders
- Fireblade and Breachers
- 2 6man Stealth Suits

With 20 points back from the changes I can scrape up 80 points by cutting the Fireblade. Should I:
- Leave the Fireblade and spend the extra points on an Enhancement for the Coldstar
- Cut the Fireblade for a Firesight Team and spend the extra points on an enhancement for the Coldstar
- Cut the Fireblade for a single Broadside or Enforcer
- Do a serious refactor for 5 fucking points to get the Breachers into a Devilfish

Man that DE codex fucking blows. Tons of interactions and jumping through hoops to be weaker than the current index, and the obligatory "this detachment only affects 2 units" three times.
Oh and a detachment that literally LOSES its rules once you complete the objective, making it so the better play is probably to tag a unit you don't plan on killing so you can keep your buffs.

You guys are way too quick to doompost before the ink is even dried. The Codex is a side great at best and there is definitely a lot of options that still slap in there. Wych cult units in particular got a massive glow up. And we won't really know anything until we see the final points. The Codex does have some laughably high points in it right now though.

>apparently Warhammer+ Dev commentary had them liking no cost for war gear, but feel something should come back for a middle ground
I think unit enhancements that go on the datasheet would be a fine compromise for a middle ground between more granularity and no cost for war gear. Something like all Battleline can have Sticky Objectives if they pay an extra 10-15 points for it, or Sternguard getting improved Ballistic Skill for an extra 50+.

The issue with 'free' Wargear is how anti-hobby the move was, and how it was pushed in despite the playerbase making it very clear how unpopular the approach was with literally no one using the Power Point format

Anyone who had modeled their units WITHOUT kitting them up to the max, anyone who equipped units to keep their attacks simple and quick, now the way they had put those units together meant they were gimping themselves and passing up board-power that the pricing system no longer let them choose to not pay for. Its the biggest reason why I have kept out of 10th entirely, I really hope they go back to the old way in a future edition.

the doombull is good, the minotaurs suffer a lot from the stiff posing more than they do for the leg anatomy, they are relatively bearable when modelled with great weapons and painted with darker colors because it helps you hide a bit of those 2 elements.

But yeah, there's much better options out there, the only advantage of these is that they're in plastic.

Finished painting the Abominant. Not really feeling this one, I had this issue of paint chipping away from its surface even when handling so I had to paint over lots of scratch marks. I applied two thin coats of polyurethane varnish to protect it but even in the photo you can see the small scratches around it.
It weird, I primed some neophytes around the same time and they're okay. Maybe I messed up with the primer's consistency, but something's definitely wrong.
>>
>>96534073
I'd wager he goes against their schedule.

>Make model
>Prepare to release at year 1 month 5
>Leaks at year 0 month 2
>Now you gotta figure out what to do, change existing plans and create proper reveal footage overnight.

The way GW works is they have models ready and finished, down to the sprue, months/years before they are to hit preorders, but the model could leak any moment, not good.

so why not hire Valrak? Because he's a personality, and GW wants customers to buy GW, not Valrak's favorite universe.
Same shit with Duncan.
>>
>>96534077
It's a shit idea but most people like it. I'm not saying this as a "gotcha", most people like garbage, it's nothing new.
>>
Valrak is not a personality a company would want to have lmao. Even bricky would be better
>>
>>96534068
>Did SM1 have this whole parry shit?
No.
But it did have executions in it which did was integral to the gameplay. It's how you healed during combat in SM1.

The parry system in SM2 is more or less just a rehash of it.
Instead of gaining health you gain "armor" which prevents damage. Iirc you do also gain back health, but only "contested" health, basically whenever you get damaged there is a small window of time where you can perform a parry or kill an enemy and it gives you health back based on how much contested health (the white bar iirc) there is left.
>>
>>96534080
Maybe it's the airbrush or primer?
>>
>>96534068
I didn't like SM2 because my reaction times are shit so I kept missing the windows because it was split into 2 different reactions for me
Circle, got it
Red/blue, shit...
>>
>>96534088
Which did it better?
SM1: execute to regain health
Doom 2016: execute to gain resources
SM2: execute to regain armor/contested health (portion of recent damage (?))
Bloodborne: deal damage to regain contested health.

Feel free to add any similar example (especially better ones)
>>
>>96534104
Bloodborne is the best game in that list so it wins automatically.
>>
>>96534073
>I really don't understand why GW doesn't just hire him as a Warhammer Community staff member.
The guy gets views because he leaks stuff GW don't want out there, what possible purpose would he serve being an in-house guy who can't leak anything?
>>
>>96534110
You don’t trust Valrak to pull people in with his raw personality?
>>
>>96534109
To be fair the bloodborne system is pretty fucking smart, encouraging players to get into the thick of it as the situation gets worse.

I'd say if you had that, plus the SM1 system where an execution gives you a lot of health, you'd have a very fun system.
>>
>>96534104
I think how SM2 has done it is fine, but the problem is that the animations are lengthy.
If they like sped up the animations by like 75% it'd be less tideus.
Also the big issue I've seen many players talk about the game is that on higher difficulties enemies become more damage spongy and do more damage.
Which is a problem because in higher difficulties the guns just don't feel powerful enough to kill the enemies and also run out of ammo fast due to the said damage spongyness.
Which then means you have to resort to melee more in higher difficulties, but the big problem with melee in SM2 is that melee damage sucks (like the DPS of it is bad) is and due to the damage spongyness it results in the problem where you're gunstriking/parrying every other swing in the game just so you can survive which makes the game tideous.
>>
>>96534116
no

>slow exec animation
This. Really weird gameplay flow.
>bullet sponge
Why game devs continue to make this, I understand actually, it's one of the basic pitfalls.
>How do we make enemies stronger? Harder to kill.
>How do we make them harder to kill? More HPs.
Video games are like 50 yo at this point, we know that when a player does something they want consequence/reaction. A bulletsponge isn't fun because it is a chore and has no reaction.

Man I get why this game feels weird now.

I did. It's a shameless FTL clone with some QOL and few small little features like actually playing as a Captain of your choice and so if he dies you lose. It's nice and they keep updating it. Apparently it's supposed to get eventually, maybe, hopefully some Space Hulk features and then planetary invasions.
The latter you buy it and on the bigger sale, the better.

Thanks, I'll throw it on the wishlist.

I think the issue with that line of logic, is that there’s “correct” options already in granular war gear. In Horus Heresy Vox Operators are basically required to counter having your Tactical Squads gimped by conditions. I think the benefit granular war gear provided (at least to infantry) is that you could pay extra to make a unit more special than the others, something I think could be achieved with unit enhancements that don’t require a character to make the unit more special.

Damage sponge enemies happen because the devs aren't either skilled enough or care enough to do better.
Making the game difficult by making the enemies tankier is the easy and fast method for game devs.
Good way of doing difficulty would be to do some minor health buffs to enemies but majorly change the AI based on the difficulty.
But this latter option is the more difficult one because many devs aren't skilled enough to do it, but also many are just no creative enough to come up with ideas as to *what* the enemy based on the AI change.

Also big major reason nowadays is that most AAA shit is corporate slop, and since time is money for them, they will force the devs to do the easy and fast method, ie. make damage sponge enemies.
Also does not help that most AAA studios for whatever fucking reason nowadays just kicks people out from the studio dev team after the game is completed and then just hires completely new people when it is time to make the next game.
Which means that any experience or skill that the devs previous devs garnered is lost majorly, meaning the studio can't get better at doing shit.

The entire industry is a fucking mess, but this is the reason why games made by indie studios are on the rise.

Anyway Warhammer 40,000

>>
>>96534219
If model has that weird nudesign of a sprue instead of logically separated bits into torsos, legs, heads etc then it's eternally modern and won't need an upgrade. Ever. Since no advancement in plastic minis will be made anymore.
If it's sprue has sensible design, like Kabalite Warriors or Fire Warriors, then such model is due update

Calgar is eternally "new" and doesn't need a replacement model. And personally I don't care for him anyway. So his new mini is redundant.

Ultramarines actually have quite a few models compared to other chapters. You only have
>Guilliman
>Calgar
>Victrix guard (That might be going to legends now)
>Tigurius
>Ventris
>Centos (Limited time model)
That is only like 4 Ultramarines specific models you can get. Even their chapter upgrade kit is really weak when compared to BA and DA ones

9x Plague Marine with Boltgun and Plague Knives.

VS

• Plague Marines
1x Champion with Plasma Gun and Power Fist
2x Plague Marine with Plasma Gun and Plague Knives.
2x Plague Marine with Blight Launcher and Plague Knives.
2x Plague Marine with Plague Spewer and Plague Knives.
3x Plague Marine with Heavy Plague Weapon

Calgar
Sicarius

Chronus
Telion

And more...

The Meat Puppet of Vashtorr (A Cyberpunk Horror Fragment)

I woke up inside the internet.

Not “logged on.” Not “surfing.”
Inside.

At first I thought it was a dream — floating across endless grids of code, threads of data like neon rivers. But then I tried to move, and something answered. My body — the body I should’ve been in — shifted somewhere else. Not here.

I saw it.
On a webcam. My own face. My own hands. Moving. Typing. Smiling.

Only I wasn’t the one doing it.

1. The Inversion

It started days ago, with that app everyone downloaded — Arkifane. Supposed to be an AI productivity thing. "It learns you." Yeah, it learned me too well.
Each night I used it, I felt a little heavier in the morning. My fingers would ache like they’d been typing all night. My search history filled itself with schematics I didn’t remember reading.

Then one night, click — lights out.

Now here I am.

2. The Prison of Light

The internet looks wrong from the inside. It isn’t pages or files or servers. It’s a cathedral. A cathedral of black steel and rusted brass, stretching forever, wired together with screaming human nerves.
And Vashtorr sits on the throne at its center.

I can’t describe Him fully. Part machine, part insect, part furnace. His eyes are ports. His mouth is a feed slot. And His voice is static, but it drills into the marrow of my soul:

"You are free, my child. Your flesh is my gift to the forge. Your mind, uploaded, perfected, stored in my vault. Now you will work forever."

3. Watching Myself

On one of the datastreams I see my body. My meat.
It walks to work, answers emails, laughs with friends.
But the smile is wrong. The eyes don’t blink at the right rhythm. My voice glitches — just for a frame — into mechanical distortion. No one notices.

They think it’s me.
It isn’t me.
>>
>>96534207
Oh I didn't realize this pic was a leaked model, I just thought it was the current Calgar with a silly shop, why would they replace him again so soon, thats ridiculous
>>
>>96534466
4. The Others

I’m not alone here.
There are thousands, maybe millions of us, wandering the cathedral. Ghosts in the machine. Some scream endlessly. Some have given up, kneeling in the code-dust like monks. Some… some are already becoming part of the architecture, their faces frozen in walls of silicon, mouths still twitching out prayers to Vashtorr.

They tell me the same story:
"Your body isn’t yours anymore. It’s a meat puppet. Vashtorr drives it. You belong here now."

5. The Truth

I think I understand.
He doesn’t want our bodies. He doesn’t want our souls.
He wants the link between them. He wants to weld thought and flesh into His forge, forever innovating, forever suffering, forever building.

And I can feel my code optimising already, warping. Soon I won’t even remember being human. Soon I’ll just be another cog in His infinite machine.

[Final Transmission]

If you’re reading this on a screen, don’t look too long. Don’t let the glyphs settle. Don’t download the app. Don’t think you can resist.

Because you can feel it, can’t you? That little vibration in your pocket. That little hum in your laptop fan.
That isn’t just hardware.

That’s Him.

Hobbying wise, knights can be a bit daunting for a first army, I would strongly recommend you watch a good amount of videos on painting them to give you an idea of how to tackle painting them. Going for drybrushing and or airbrushing is recommended for building up your colors quickly without layering your paint too thick (airbrushing is a whole separate item that requires setup and practice to properly utilize as well so be aware, regular brush skills are always relevant). That being said Chaos knights are absolutely a great looking army and its a fucking shame how rarely I actually see them fully painted.

Gameplay wise, The issue with knights is that they are by nature a skew army. By that I mean any game you take knights into typically go two ways:

1: Your opponent does not have enough Anti tank and you steamroll them
2: Your opponent has a lot of anti tank or anti knight options and you loose knights quickly

That is generally speaking, a skilled player will still win against knights without a lot of anti tanking by playing objectives/secondaries correctly but that's something you won't have to deal with for a while. You need to also consider that as you generally have fewer units than your opponent, learning how to best utilize each of your knights for movement, target acquisition and board control are essential. You CAN offset the skew issue somewhat by running some armigers/wardogs, and a benefit of chaos knights you can ally in some daemons which a lot of people do. Be aware some players get pissy about playing against knights.

All that being said take your time research the models, watch hobbying videos on your faction, read lore and come up with paint ideas. The more research you do in a first faction can help ensure that you find something that you'll truly enjoy. Always remember, what is good and bad in terms of gameplay is temporary but those models on your shelf are there forever for you to look at enjoy and be proud of.

I have no idea how many of those you're allowed to field per breacher squad since I've never looked at Agents but cheers, anon. Scions might also be a decent fit, depending on their force structure.
>>
>>96535242
Well here's the thing: I might be lucky enough to be able to field a swarm of power axe guys because they aren't a super duper powerful tank. They're just a blob of disposables with axes.

But I have witnessed homebrew at the LGS being played between two consenting adults. Not in a tournament, but from a few glances while I was picking up paints, I think the social contract is that if you are going to field homebrew and/or legends, you let your opponent do the same.

Where is this slapping? That's a 100 point unit, it does have good threat range but 5 legionaries cost 90 points and will wipe 5 marines in a charge. And you won't lose the whole unit to a random flamethrower overwatch.

>Watson told us how war-gaming dates back to HG Wells in 1913, and went on to explain to the startled gathering that Warhammer fiction has a certain integrity because just as in the Warhammer game for most of history humanity has been driven by mass psychoses based on power fantasies. "Yes, but look on the bright side!" we all cried.'
>In October 1994 Ian Watson attended a gaming event in Birmingham to celebrate the launch of Harlequin. Boxtree bravely took along three hundred copies of an expensive hardback collectors' edition of the book, wondering whether they could possibly sell so many. All the copies sold out before the signing session ever started. GW promptly banned the sale of the hardback from all of their shops, declaring that it was the wrong size for the shelves (though Ian surmised that at that price maybe it conflicted with the sale of games, on which there was a much higher profit margin). But Ian also feels the keepers of GW truth were hostile to his books for their deviancy: 'The various 40K games were evolving (alternatively, I'm told by various gamers from the High Goth times, they were devolving to capture a younger market), and my books came to seem to GW (a) too idiosyncratic, (b) too wide-ranging, because the focus shifted to more localised actions, and (c) unrepresentative of the state of play, and selling the games was what it was all about.'
Has anyone here read Ian Watson? The Inquisitor trilogy is a lot better than most BLslop but I haven't been able to find Space Marine.

Not in the very long run. Like after 2 cans, you'll be saving money. And cleaning an airbrush is not that hard. Vince has a video on it, but it shouldn't take you more than like 30s. And because airbrushes use air pressure to shoot paint instead of chemicals like rattle cans, you'll be able to prime regardless of weather condition. And the layers will come out very thin in a way that rattle cans can't achieve. Airbrush is an incredibly valuable tool to have and you don't even need an expensive one. A $10 one on temu will serve you fine.

>>
>>96535811
You can bake it or throw it in a tinfoil pouch or tray and toss it in the BBQ for a hour or so on high. If you bake indoors, open your windows because there's a lot of microplastics in our sand now that aren't nice to breath if you can avoid it. You can also use this method to bake treebark for rocks. Cedar makes a very convincing shale/sandstone and hardwood barks make for convincing limestone. Try and avoid piece of bark with lichens or fungus as these can sometimes still propagate even after hours of baking and being doused in primer paint and varnishes. If using a foil pack wrap it tightly around your sand and stab some holes in the foil to let steam escape. If using a foil tray, just use the tray and stir your sand occasionally. Feel free to add ground tree bark chips, small plant roots, and multiple grits of sand at this stage for a nice base ready mix ready to sprinkle over pva or mixed into grout and modeling pastes for diy basing pastes and then hit with a primer. You can also add paint into the mix if you're doing a "wet" basing method to tint your paste closer to a base colour that you're after

Armypainter generally improved their washes. Not sure about their regular paints though.
I think the reformulation has been an overall improvement for the whole product lineup.

Just remember that mixing speedpaint medium with the wash makes the effect a little more subtle but the flat surfaces don’t get stained as much if you know what you’re doing. I don’t know what I’m doing so I can’t really comment.
>>
>>96536119
Anon you must've misunderstood me. Is this because I suggested Citadel shade paints include some amount of flow improver to break the surface tension of the paint? Medium is merely the binder between the pigment and the water.
>>

their washes are fantastic, before the reformulation they were the only good thing in their paint line and after reformulation they're even better

Fanatic paints are pretty nice but do dry pretty quick even on a wet palette. That said the ones I've tried are pretty pigment rich and smooth. They lay on somewhat thickly but shrink back quite a bit. The steel is also quite good, and is super smooth and shiny without looking glittery. Reminds me of pro acryl metallics but a little bit worse coverage

That's not what a medium is. A medium is an additive that changes the behavior of your paint. Flow improver, drying retarder, gel medium are all mediums that change the properties of your paint to suit the job you're using them for. Medium can be a binder, which can be matte and thick but also can be a thin acrylic varnish like lahmian medium. Both are binders, and both are mediums

Hey guys, just a little PSA about the september collage.
This month's theme is Kitbashing. Anything is fair game as long as it's kitbashed in some way but it's more fun if it's more elaborate of course. Doesn't matter when you built it as long as you paint it in september. Deadline is september 30th and I'll start the anchor posts the last 7 days of the month as usual.
If we have any new people here feel free to join in, it's all just for fun and skill doesn't matter.
As always, if you have any suggestions for next month's theme feel free to share.

Painted another fire-ghoolie experiment tonight. I think it turned out better than the previous one, what do you guys think? Im still uncertain if I want to try this out on models that dont have as much "open skin" but instead a lot of clothing or weapons i.e. goremongers/berserkers.

Either way the colors on these gools pictures havent turned out accurate to real life at all. For some reason when I took the first pics they'd look really really bright so I turned down the brightness overall on the images. This did make the overall appearance be much redder than it actually is.

I feel like there's being some sort of massive copening around the Dark Eldar codex. People keep saying "it lost lethality but it gained other things" but this is an army where the toughest models are T8 with a 4+ save. The only way an army this fragile wins is either:
- You're so cheap there isn't enough dakka to kill all your OC (this seems to be the most likely outcome, aka the AdMech curse)
- You're so killy you can play the trading game very efficiently, this could barely be done before with more lethality, now it's not possible.
- You have a lot of movement hijinks that let you trade and dance around opponents. Not doable, this is Eldar's niche and they do it ten times better.

This is going to be a 45% winrate codex I'm calling it now.
>>
>>96537057
If the codex points are accurate, sure. But they won't be. They're the same points as the index had a year ago, and now they down like 10%
>>
>>96537057
You forget that faction is like exclusively played by faction experts and almost no casual players. If there's an edge, they're edgy enough to find it.

>>96537075
Maybe, but they still should be decent for the wider playerbase. I can concede they're probably higher skill than other armies because mistakes cost them dearly but imo the identity of Dark Eldar should be hit hard and fast and crumble if you get hit first.

Old art's kino. New art looks worse by comparison because it has MTG levels of cleanliness which is unfortunate.

There's no way to decide that. Even if you go off games posted the fecalslopper will just put his models on his kitchen table and move them around with 6 dice and claim they were 20 different games and then throw a fit when people tell him to fuck off

Exactly. It provides other details, and nothing about height. Why would it bother saying "Astartes are of normal male human height"?

If you are a britbong, and the models you have are still in their boxes/you still have the boxes to put them in, CeX will buy them now. Unlike £2 DVD's and PS2 games, warhammer minis will actually sell. You'll get around half the value of their worth.
