Why did they eve try this marketing gimmik? How could this ever work?
Are there any good ones?
Do you wish one in particular existed?
>>

Why wouldn't they try it? Far stupider marketing gimmicks have worked.
>>
some stuff just doesn't work with a ttrpg
This one is for a system that is extremely autistic about guns. Calculare the effect of the wind levels of autistic, half the manual is types of guns and amunition levels of autistic. There are no guns in the movie.

Is Homeworld RPG any good?

it's really cheap as far as movie marketing goes and will probably get noticed in the nerd market segment. Quality doesn't really matter.
Personally I'm mad the rebel moon RPG got canceled because the retarded company that was hired to make it broke the NDA right before the movie came out.

oh yeah this is fucking phoenix command isn't it?

On the whole, license IP TTRPGs are garbage due to a number of issues. In many cases, a lot of it comes down to the fact that the IP owner often has too much input and control of the creation of the RPG.
That said, there are a few standouts that did create a great game; WEG Star Wars, Serenity, and Dragon Age.

Yeah, they also had the rights for Lawnmower Man and made a game that was strangely close to the sequel in terms of setting and tone. I didn't bring up that one because they kinda made it work and there are like 3 Lawnmower Man videogames so the IP seemed tempting at the time. A wargame adaptation of the 90's Dracula movie on the other hand...

How does it work? Does it use Tri-Stat, since it's by Guardians of Order? I guess technically they count for several BESM books with licensed settings.
>>
>>96535396
pretty much
the big pitch is that it was made for a single player and GM, but I'm not entirely sure what it does to achieve that besides telling you to do that. I guess only stating the main character of the movie?

I mean, Star Wars is one. I feel like it did ok.

Most are trash. Most are designed to be trash. They're trying to make a quick buck before you read them. Same as any marketing tie-in, promotional crap is.

The Free League Alien RPG is supposed to be good; people seem rather skeptical to the changes in the upcoming new version however.

See West End Games's "World of Tank Girl". Probably very collectable now, but ended up on clearance in the 90s given that the film may be a cult classic, but it was something of a box-office bomb in its day. Although in fairness to Tank Girl as a whole, because who doesn't love the original comics, the entire MasterBook/MasterDeck thing never really got any market traction. Never played it, but for all I know it was hot garbage.

Star Wars had a wide range of games that did really weird things. There were some that focused way too much on trying to stop playes from being cool jedis, god knows why.

>>96535822
nah, most publishers that focused on IPs ended up bankrupt, it clearly wasn't a savvy strat to exploit the market.
>>
>>96535860
lol

>>96535840
I kinda liked the Blade Runner one.
But FL's games are IP focused to the detriment of the game, you end up with stuff where making your own adventure in a different direction is kinda hard. People run the official modules and just stop playing it.
