How accessible is Magic as a quality of life improvement device in your world?

Assuming it's fairly high fantasy, what are some magical items that would be available to everyday people and how much do they cost?

Some examples from my world are; Vines that levitate and can be used as rebreathers once prepared properly, they have large sacks of air on the end that are often used for under water salvage missions and the leaves bite when you try to harvest them. There are also stones that create the bulk of fresh water in the world, they're used as ballasts for ships crossing the oceans and as a constant source of potable water during the voyage.

Since all Humans are basically psychic even if they never learn any psychic skills, they can use the technology built behind it which mainly involves communication because the psychic tech allows transfer of information with no lag at unlimited distance.

A person on Earth can call someone out in the Oort Cloud in real time
>>
>>96535848
That's pretty cool, sounds like a modified version of the Net Terminal Gene from BLAME! but probably more useful.
>>
>>96535873
It is because you don't have to modify people to use or do it. That said, it does open up new vistas of personal security issues like your brain/soul being hacked but it's the price one pays to live in a world where your employees can live on Earth or Mars.
>>
>>96535848
That's dumb, psychic shittery should work like a muscle. If you aren't using it and therefore learning psychic skills it atrophies and stops working.
>>

How much extra do you have to use your leg before you lose the use of it? Or your arm? Or your lungs?
>>
>>96535931
They do use it all the time, just not in an active way.

The tech can't work without the biological component (you, in this case), being able to allow the tech to interact with the energies that make it all possible. Your brain/soul acting as a conduit for data as long as you use the tech

>bio leggings
A creature that has evolved into the shape of pants with foot coverage. The wearer slips it on over their naked lower body; a tendril slides its way through the wearer's anus, until just below the stomach. The tendril's purpose is to absorb nutrients for the creature's sustenance, which reduces the absorption of its host by about 50%, so the host will need to eat more, and more often, as a consequence.
The sex of the creature must be the opposite of the wearer, as males have hemipenes on the front; having a female host makes the creature more willing to be worn, because even though they're biologically-incompatible, the creature still receives pleasure from being hosted. Same goes for females, the cloaca-like organ is flexible enough to house a human penis of any length and girth while cradling it and the testicles comfortably.
Pleasure and comfort aren't the only benefits, however. The creature has high twitch-reflexes, and can slowly develop a psychic link of increasing strength with its host, to improve synergy for any task involving the legs. Increased running speed, better strides, longer leaps, higher jumps, harder kicks. Incredible force-dampening properties on the exterior reduce impacts of all forms, and the leggings themselves act as compression wear to reduce stress on the wearer's joints. The creature has adaptive temperature control, of up to 50°C in either direction of the wearer's preferred temperature, enabling comfort in somewhat harsher climates.
Rare variants, or those who have adapted to a fighter's body, will have empowered psychic ability, enabling levitation, or energy dampening. Depending on fighting style, the creature may develop bioluminescent nodes for low to no light areas, ocular nodes that shoot psychic lasers, nails/talons/dewclaws for attacking/climbing/gripping, thorns to punish attackers. Some are even known to develop exoskeletal shells for additional protection.

Anon if you don't use your legs, arms, or lungs you will literally lose all function of them and other parts of your body.
>>
>>96535966
>They do use it all the time, just not in an active way.
This makes no sense as they would gain skills with it. This is as dumb as settings that say "everyone is actually a mage but you have to meditate for 50 years before you can cast a simple spell".
>>
>>96536141
It takes active effort to use telekinesis. More so if you're trying to learn how to use a machine that makes your telekinesis ultra-precise enough to move atoms to build meta materials to build the necessary space infrastructure.

It does take some effort to use the tech to sort information with your brain but that's th extent of the actual exertion you are doing aside from not resisting it.
>>
>>96536168
>It takes active effort to use telekinesis.
Exactly. And if you're not stressing your psychic muscles you should lose all ability to use it at all as it atrophies.
The dumb shit in this setting remains the "everyone is always psychic :)" shit. And actually I take it back, it's dumber than settings where everyone is technically a mage because at least magic has the pretensions of fantasy to hide behind.

Is that the living toilet?

The thread is about magic, though, and since that anon responded to a thread about magic, that means he was talking about magic.
>>
>>96536255
>The thread is about magic
I know it is, which really exacerbates the point about how the psychic stuff isn't appropriate and makes no sense.

A couple I've been working on

Bountiful Scroll Case
Wondrous Item, Common

An ivory scroll case that is very durable and adorned with well made scrimshaw.

When closed it is completely waterproof, and it is resistant to elements, including fire and acid but not immune.

A small case can hold up to 10 scrolls, a large case can hold 50 scrolls (Scrolls with multiple spells count as separate scrolls for each spell)

You can also store maps, documents, ledgers, patents, and similar written objects within the case, counting each as a single scroll. You can draw forth any scroll or map or return one as a bonus action.

Elucidian Spyglass
Wondrous Item, Uncommon
A spyglass that can detect traces of magic and wards. Often used as a tool by officers in armies to identify warded companies and enemy mages. Since the end of the last round of many conflicts they have fallen into the hands of many skilled specialists, including various rogues.

A brass casing with silver trim and scrollwork, it has a blue lens and comes with a fur padded leather case.

This spyglass has a maximum of 7 charges, recovering 1d4 charges per day. It can detect any arcane or divine traces. It does not identify the magic besides a faint glow that will determine what kind of magic, such as white for divine, a black/purple for abjuration, and elemental magic will show as a similar color to that element, like Red for Fire and Blue for Water. There are cases where this may be a negative however, as it will show White/Gold for Divine, and Pure White for Annihilation/Void

>exacerbates the point about how the psychic stuff isn't appropriate and makes no sense
I don't see how it isn't appropriate.
Anon has apparently made psychic powers magic in his game, so it's apt.
Neither magic nor psychic power exist in our world, so they are both impossible, so they're both fantasy.

It isn't hard to understand.

Not bad, Claude or GPT-4o?
>>
>>96536246
Yes
>>
>>96536141
>This is as dumb as settings that say "everyone is actually a mage but you have to meditate for 50 years before you can cast a simple spell".
Makes sense to me. Anyone can walk, it takes time and effort to run a marathon.
>>
>>96535807
>in your world?
Stop making threads like this. Just talk about the fucking idea you want to talk about.
>>
>>96536301
>I don't see how it isn't appropriate.
That's fine, your consent isn't necessary.

>Neither magic nor psychic power exist in our world, so they are both impossible
Putting aside the truth of those two specific things aside, something currently existing or not has no bearing on whether it is "impossible", sperganon.

>>96536313
>Makes sense to me. Anyone can walk
Not if their legs atrophy.
>>
>>96536305
No, just been coming up with items that I thought would be useful to a party for a longer term campaign, like "What would I really appreciate as a player?"
>>
>>96536320
>Not if their legs atrophy.
A fair outlier example, though it'd be weird to go "The majority of human beings born with two functioning legs that can support their weight"
>>
>>96536334
In the context of this conversation it isn't because you still have to use your legs to keep them from atrophying.
>>
>>96536319
The idea I want to talk about is what people are putting into their worlds that makes things feel magical, my eventual goal with these ideas isn't to actually have a world where these things are permanently available to the players, but a world that loses access to those things.

Turning a campaign from Eberron to Dark Sun in an instant. It's not germane to the conversation at question, hence why this thread is more open ended. You can hide the thread using settings or filter them all together.
>>
>>96536320
>I'm incapable of understanding simple things
Enjoy being a retard, then. I'm not wasting my time on someone who has zero common sense.
>>
>>96536566
Yes anon, you are incapable of understanding things, it's why you need to construct a poorly made defense for a very dumb concept.
>>
>>96536092
If it's tongue-dick is going all the way up to your stomach how are you absorbing any of the nutrients from the food you consume?
