Trench Crusade General - /trench/Let's Make A Warband Generator Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. >>96539883well I was more intending for us to make the actual generator, but we can roll while we write I suppose.>2. Heretic LegionNow we get to figure out what we were doing before we became legionnairesRoll 1d61. Deserter Legion: You and your warband saw the horrors of war first hand and drove you to the brink of madness. Knowing that such horror exists can only mean that the faithful are wrong in that a benevolent god exists. Knowing that only death awaits the men of New Antioch, you've walked to the gates of Hell to swear fealty to a new master.2. Born in Terror: You and your warbands are some of the many natives of the God forsaken lands claimed by the people who hold true faith. You were crafty strong enough to survive an upbringing brought on by Hell on Earth and now you see a way to be the cruel masters3. Rejected by the Faithful: You and your peers were the faithful, until you were cast out by some misunderstanding of doctrine, choice of worship, or the sect you followed being declared heretical. This drove you away, and to survive you took refuge in the only places remaining. You reveled in what your old masters declared abhorrent, what fools you once were.4. Deep Infiltrators: You and your families were once sent to the holy lands to secure a beach head for a time now coming. Your demonic masters have given you the strength to finish the task before you for their grand design. You know that the generations have made such a task harder but you are assured a place of honor amongst the hosts of hell should you succeed in your mission.5. Wretched Adherents: Your warband were once the lowest of the castes of the Hell. You slew an enemy of the hordes of hell winning your freedom outright, but were rejected by the hosts of heaven upon your return. Now the only place left to turn is the nightmares you were forced to fight for. A fight you're now only more prepared for and willing to make.6. Dealers Choice: Pick one of the above or make your own

>>96539829The models for Hunger look sick and I feel like that shouldve been the default Black Grail faction. Thralls that are just shambling zombies is fucking boring as all hell in a game where you cant make large mobs, having thralls that can actually equip stuff, and we still dont know what Dirge is suppose to look like.
>>96539829Has anybody used the third party pastebin's stuff? I've been eyeing Anvil Industry's stuff but I'm not sure about pulling the trigger.
>>96540339>The models for Hunger look sick and I feel like that shouldve been the default Black Grail faction. This is from Nova Open. Those of you that haven't seen it should watch the presentation here:https://youtu.be/aztMGTMoyAE?feature=sharedNot my vid but I was in the audience
>>96540339I think BG is getting a rework, the new Matagot Hag unit seems to imply that taking it gives you a small small horde of zombies to play with, so now there is a unit that you can pick that can let you exceed the unit cap, and thralls are not just shambling zombies now, but more like actual monsters.>>96540368Thanks. Was there anything of note not shown in this?
>>96540376There was another 5 minutes or so of presentation before moving onto qna,, but I can't recall anything major that got missed here off the top of my head, sorry anon that was a few weeks ago now. Next event I'll need my own camera I guess
What size XPS board would you use for terrain? 2" thick? Just to make trenches?
>>96540783>What size XPS board would you use for terrain? 2" thick? Just to make trenches?2" board will work great for trench blocks to make a nice portable modular set up, if you already have something to put that on. Note that larger minis will be visible over the lips of blocks that size, and it'll never look as cohesive as a more static board, but they are way more practical from a gaming experience
Man I fucking love the nuns, coverts injuries to blessings +1/+1. sure not anything meaningful for ranged options but clearly not where they belong.Though maybe I should try and check out martyr penitents if I get a long campaign again.>>96540075Thought we told you to take your culture war bullshit with you back to whatever shithole you came from.
Out of all places, fucking Aliexpress was the last place I expected to find printed TC minis
>>96542349Title reads like some anime title wth
>>96542359Yeah no kiddin'But looking at the reviews, does seem to be legit, shame there isnt any BG minis on there though
>>96540368>two comments saying they're not allowed to playWhat's this about?
>>96542359Typical "catch as many search phrases as possible" carpeting, it's been a thing (in that specific form) since eBay was new and shiny.
I am taking the Aliexpress pill, this shit for 5 euro is a goddamn steal
>>96542370Arch dick riders anon, I unsubbed to him over this shit. There are people that know nothing about this and only watched Archs scorned lover videos on it, so when he says "the developers hate you" they only have his word on it.>get told to fuck off when you try to take over a project you had no hand in making>"what the fuck I made this, me, my community because Im so popular, I made you. Youre nothing without me and my community!">"what hte fuck are you talking about, I was an artist in the industry and have made a game before this and was doing just fine, you dont own anything here">"wow this game is woke, abandon ship. They hate chuds because they didnt let me take the reigns and dictate the direction of the game"Just play the fucking game if you enjoy it. How entitled do you have to be to demand someone elses project be changed to fit your wants and needs even after it was successful and the person making it has success in this field to prove that they are right, and you tried the same thing and tripped and fell on the first hurdleYes, arch wanted to make a tabletop game for chuds in response to this, he buried this becuase it was so fucking generic it was embarassing.
>>96542450Arch is a fucking loser, I havent and wont give his videos on TC a view but knowing how this ERP sounding sperg was about WH videos I expect nothing of quality or value
>>96542450Its not even the first time>"the helldivers 2 devs hate you! Theyre makng fun of you">his own audience calls him a retardAnd then he had to make a video responding to his own audience when he said Kingdome Come Deliverance 2 shouldnt be abandoned even when the creator of the game openly called him and and other commentators nazis and bigots, like, it wasnt implied, he said it, and that was the game he wanted people to defend and embrace. Arch shows you just have to realize, everyone has their biases, trust only yourself, dont let people tell you who hates you, look at what they said and parse that information for yourself.
>>96542414Is the barrel bent?
>>96542604Looks a little like it, another reseller seems to have the better result though so you just gotta dig until you hit right
>>96542450That video got fed to me. Frankly, I don't give a shit if the devs hate me or not. I don't care about the culture war. The only time it has been an issue is I made some off-hand comment that I missed sexy minis (while playing Infinity) and the dude talked down to me basically implying that sexy minis are what keep women from playing the game.Digest that for a second. Sexy minis - not the fact it's a super niche hobby that's very expensive and requires you to spend hours at a table with a bunch of fat guys with mixed results on hygiene.
>>96542495>>96542495Wasn't the creator of Kingdom Come Daniel Vazvra or some shit? I remember that name in the Gamer Gate crap. He used to post pictures of him smoking cigars and being served liquor by women in corsets. How the worm turns.
>>96543570Yea Daniel Vavra. Flat out fighting with people online complaining about what is absoloutely woke stuff being added to the sequel, and again, flat out called people "grifters and bigots" and didnt need people to do mental gymnastics to see how its being implied, but Arch(and frankly, most people complaining) still bought the game and then started coping about how it was ok this time and you should try to coopt the game rather than abandon it...but didnt do that for TC? Again, everyone has their biases. He got his hand slapped because he tried to put his hand on the wheel and then imply that the career artist and guy who already has games under his belt wont be successful without him and his community, AFTER the game took off. Like, come on man. Youre not that important, just make your own game with that influence if you are, Id be happy to see it, part of what makes TC enjoyable is that its part of this modern movement to make alternative games, TC isnt the only one, Id like to see more, and they are not invalid just because they arent beating warhammer. See Turnip, thats a simple game with a really nice community, but its not large at all, it doesnt need to be big it just needs to actually exist so it can find a niche audience.>>96543559I think thats a one guy thing, dont let those kinds of people dictate what the rest of ANY community is, theres always going to be that one retard that stands out for the wrong reasons that you remember over any other interaction that was normal.>hags endlessly birth little people, the model is a bunch of people spewing out of her pussyLike, this shit is edgy lol, a lot of people in general let alone women probably wont be interested regardless. Ive heard criticism that the setting is far too bleak to get into, and its a pretty fair thing to say honestly, but I like edgy over the top shit, makes for cool models.
>>96543792As far as alternative games, I've enjoyed Relicblade.
>>96539829>TQHeretic captain took on two heavy mechanized infantry and Melee combat and I kept rolling good to abuse the puppetmaster skill and get free melee hits.It was pretty disgusting, but then again so is pressing two heavy shotguns to my elite
>>96543792>part of what makes TC enjoyable is that its part of this modern movement to make alternative games, TC isnt the only one, Id like to see more, and they are not invalid just because they arent beating warhammer.Yeah, the ones that come off the top of my head are Quar, Turnip, and Blood and Plunder all replicate the feel of the 40k system without the dogshit prices and rules.I've always kinda felt arch had a stick up his ass and was really just trying to be sargon for warhammer players, and the fact that he's kept doubling down on the culture war bullshit really speaks volumes. At the end of the day as much as I dislike troons, if they shut the fuck up and roll dice I'm willing to play.
>>96540365I’ve bought Anvil’s cast resin stuff, it was fine. Never used their 3d print stuff, though.
>>96544084Puppet master is pretty fucking crazy desu. But I am not in love with the heretic priest model.
In part I don't find all of the black grail stuff interesting, though some is cooler than other. But undead fortitude seems increadibly fucking strong and coupled with widespread fear they just seem dead hard.Is it supposed to be offset by them not seeming very shooty or something?
>>96542450>arch wanted to make a tabletop game for chuds in response to this, he buried this becuase it was so fucking generic it was embarassing. Now i am interested. do you know anything more about that particular project?
Trench crusade should have been 28mm scaled because the majority of minis are in 28mm scale which means easier conversions. Hell our list of mini manufacturers is all 28mm.
>>96546282Most people play 28mm minis regardless.
>>96546289Because it is the true scale that tc should have been if anybody wants to put that whole conversion aspect into practice.
>>96546274He showed it off in one of his videos about TC, I definately remember that.Like, I never want to knock people for trying to make something, I wish people did it more, but I think what he was making sounded way more interesting in his head than it did said out loud, and when he finally said it out loud he realized that and never did it again. People came to TC because the art was great , if the art was generic I dont think people wouldve cared, if you want to make a unique setting for a game you need to come out the gate with a cool aesthetic that is distinct and makes for varied factions, otherwise theyre not going to care about the introcate history youve written, that shit doesnt get people making models and playing games. If I was to make my own game I would pick a historic era/model model range and then build an aesthetic around that and make test models with them to show if you dont have art.
>>96546257they're not very shooty and they don't have amazing kill power until they start stacking infection markers. They're meant to be slow-grow, late-game monsters
>>96546564The Dirge variant does have guns however, so I dont know how that also works out with fear and toughness for them specifically. They seem like a better BG than the default all around, you miss out on the lord and the amalgum but the tradeoff being you have a lot of guns seems more than worth it since it gets around their biggest weakness as a faction. I hope the talk of a rework for the faction is true, things like thralls and especially the flying ones seem useless, not even because of stats but because of the unit cap.The showcase for new stuff they did showed new thralls look like lickers from Resident Evil instead of zombies so I hope they have been changed to be something worth using a slot on.
>>96546564>they don't have amazing kill power until they start stacking infection markersI remain not entirely convinced, doesn't seem different from stacking blood markers, they seem to have access to + injury roll/dice weapon in reasonable amount.
aliniggas have no chill, its been like a day
>>96539829>What's the most awesome moment you've had in a recent gameHL Priest took on a Brazen Bull by himself.Smote it into the ground and actually campaign-killed it.That guy had a fucking good run. Was absolutely the main character on the tabletop (until he wasn't).
>>96547487Well desu not like a HL priest is a soft target either.
>>96539829I was working on these again Sunday. Last week the best thing that happened was I had to play vs Prussia and he missed 8 Grenades so the game was actually kinda balanced lmao.
ANGRY! ANGRY ABOUT WARWOLVES!Also he clearly painted around an actual image of a machinegun here.>>96548533Everyone seems ti go prussia if anything with NA. Are they that much better or is the other stuff just not interesting? Like I know long range nades are good and tankbuster swords are strong but do other variants just not perform?
>>96548734Its because they get to field a bunch of guys in cool looking armour it seems. I made some test models for Eire but didnt like the direction, and just went back to making default because cool trenchoats and gasmasks.Id like to see model examples of all the factions just for inspiration, the guys I actually play are TP cavalcade, Ive only had 1 game against NA default, were waiting for full rules now.
>>96548734It's just that Prussia is NA but better. The only downsides don't really matter to the gameplan of NA. No Reinforced armor doesn't matter because you aren't putting armor on your chaff and your lieutenant and Mechanized infantry get the most OP armor in the game anyways. If you're gonna armor shield+standard is only 25 bucks and is as good as like TP or IS are gonna get on their normal dudes. And long term NA doesn't field max MCI.In return you gain 4" range on the best/most efficient item in the game (grenades), weapons that have a 50+% mortality rate if the opponent so much as wore a single point of armor that's not a shield, everyone gets the dog "bonus dice to dash" for super cheap, your leader is still unkillable, and you can infiltrate more. Oh and an extra fireteam which is very good. I love their flavor but their shit is mad overturned. The only thing that brings them into balance is missing every grenade and charge, or picking off their fireteama/activation advantage. NA is actually relatively high skill in my opinion but prussia brings it down and gives it a million amazing tools.
>>96548734NA has like 6 official sub factions. Who have varying cool flavor but don't have nearly the power prussia does. People also like Germans
>>96548734As said, prussia is just overtuned pretty hard and their drawbacks arent that harsh if noticable.>oh no only 1 mecha hitlerYeah but the leader still gets to be mecha hitler too so w/e. Grenades are just good in general and with that range, great.
>>96548913Prussia, the irish, the scotts and the papal intervention force and the abyssinians?
>>96540048Hmm
>>96548913The Papal intervention force initially seems gimped, but you realize how insanely good they are once you have the extra glory.I'll say in a dead on fight prussians come out on top, but Papals having the ability to make early purchases like the Jawbone, or knighthoods is very powerful in the long term.Red brigade also offers the retardedly powerful gunslinger perk for just *5 Ducats*. Which allows you to take two auto pistols and get what amounts to a machinegun you can use as an assault weapon. The only one I'd say is actually underpowered is Eire, since a lot of their faction specials need a serious tradeoff (Berzerker having the LT wear no armor, Hit-And-Run still triggering Melee attacks, etc.)
>>96548974I'd say you have two counters to prussia. You have the "I'm not touching you" counter. Which basically means you make a unit with insane range/damage infiltrate in a spot that forces the Prussia player to play defensively. Or, you rob them of charge bonuses by forcibly engaging them in Melee first.First one I find easier with a very mobile warband (Navy Heretics are a good example of this, since infiltrating an artillery witch is a fucking warcrime) The second one needs you to have a lot of chaff, or some people who're beefy enough to take withering fire/are hard to damage (I find death commandos do this pretty well, though if you're a cheeky fuck you can do some nasty shit with heralds)
>>96549110I love that the counter is arguably tied or barely behind prussia in terms of power. HL are a menace but I love them. Also have my start of my foam trench boxes.
Finished my Pilgrims, next is gonna be a Dirge warband. I orderd 3 of the Dark Tides knights from westfalia miniatures. How do I play it? Just go arty spam and gas grenades?
>>96549067>>96549110Just realized my friend made a Prussian force to go with his HL.Preparing my butt hole.
Sniper priest
>>96549652hell yeah
Hello, havnt posted in a while cos life got in the way.Im soon done with my first warband using raging heroes/heroes infinite, all the models are printed but i am getting some alt models printed(1 extra hellknight cos 2 of the 3 i currently have are the same sculpt and some alt sorcerers which arn't standing on the ground, ill have 3 sorcerers total so i might try and write a fanmade subfaction)After they are done im thinking of doing my second printed army with iron sultanate using the iron wall defenders sub faction but making it asian themed. The latest month of heroes infnite subscription has some models i could easily use for most of the faction including pic related which i would really love to use as cannons. Now my question is for a campaign how many models would i need for a full campaign?Ill need at least 13 for the silahdar, alchemist, 2 officer janissary, 2 cannons, 1 brazen bull, 4 sappers, a sipahi captain and a mamluk faris but how many azebs should i go for? would 6 total using a few different units from the 4 different asian themed releases i own be enough?
>>96550188I've only gotten into the game recently, but I am pretty interested in what happened to east Asia in this setting. I imagine the Heretic Navy raids India and China but they'd be protected from land assaults by the Iron Sultanate and the Iron Wall
>>965501886 would be fine. 3 with flamethrowers is mandatory since other than your cannon and bull (with flame cannon) IS has fuck all for penetrating high armor. You really shouldn't bring more than 1 cannon ever unless your boards don't use trenches and terrain.Defenders are cringe and making them like, goofy fantasy chinese before we have a glimpse of the east is wack but I hope this helped.
How do I build a Pilgrim force? I'm stuck between two basic concepts that sound fun to kitbash and play:>A) Screaming horde of wretched retards with improvised melee weapons>B) Elite unit of Nun ninjas focused around hit-and-run tacticsFrom the games I've played against them (mostly vanilla Pilgrims), Pilgrims seem very reliant on their Elites. So Idea A would probably be based around going Sacred Affliction and surrounding my Elite core with as many cheap bodies as possible, mixing in some Strong guys with tank hammers and shields. Then I mob the board, and letting my heavy hitters down people while the Millstones do the rest. Idea B seems harder. I'd go Cavelcade, where the lambs, capriotes, and a Blessing each round might really help the Nuns. I'd still keep a modest Pilgrim melee core lead by a Castigator, but the flanking Nuns and Prophet would be the true threats. But, the absolute shitload of other restrictions make me wonder whether it's really worth it. Even the lambs would basically be a 20 ducat tax each game since they're consumable. Vanilla Pilgrims would give me a more balanced force, but Vanilla Nuns don't seem very impressive. Again, I'm not sure which to do, or whether the game even supports these play styles. Any thoughts from experienced Pilgrim players?
I wish 7-Headed Serpent demons were customizable, maybe not to the degree of a Homunculus or Anchorite since they already have spells, but at least a few body options would be cool. I have some really nice demon miniatures from the 7 Sins board game by CMON lying around, but the fact that most don't have wings or hands is really a bummer. >Just pretend they can levitate or something I know, but man...
>>96551644Sacred affliction getting no capriotes means that they are prime fodder for grenades, gas and fear by the way, so you will end up taking the martyrdom pills for the guys you want to keep alive, which is more expensive, yes, thats right, they do not have gasmasks or helmets, the lack of capriotes is a major setback for survivability for all those great boons this warband gets, this one seemingly minor thing is actually huge. Consider the lamb tax like giving anything an extra hitpoint. Its perfect for making regular chaff into tanks so the prophet can start spamming that smite ability on whatever the chaff is pinning down, meaning they dont have to risk getting into a melee with something that can kill them and can defeat armour without even having to pay for a weapon for doing that, meaning more points for elsewhere, and it means those chaff units can get into melee with the strongst units in the game and not get run over immediately, and can invalidate a successful charge. Use it to have a group of these tanks just follow the prophet around, you dont need to give everything the lamb until you have spare points, just these guys and the elites.>pilgrim, flail, warcross, shield, armour, capriote, lambTheres a tank, where even when the enemy actualy does do damage for the first time after defeating the armour, you just ignore it, imagine how fucking annoying that is.Nuns punch way above their point cost by the way, youll want to take some no matter what.
>Love Eire's flavor and lore so much>Look at their rules>DisappointmentSo I'm giving up heavy weapons, the command ability on my HQ unit, and one of my fireteams in return for... A reduced chance to get hit when leaving Melee, and the abilitty to sidestep being charged?I don't get it, am I a fucking brainlet? The upsides are nice but it doesn't make up for being deprived several of my most powerful assets.
>>96552054Not played Eire but wouldnt the Berserker upgrade be more useful than on my command?infiltrator schocktroopers i imagine could do some decent damage, oh and also the instant down ability on clerics seems fun
Rolled 4 (1d6)>>96540048I'll roll for this one
>>96552187>>96552054Seems like youre suppose to keep using their improved retreat and the fiannas skirmish to avoid getting stuck in melee so they can shoot more with weapons that have shorter range. Give fianna autoshotguns and other high powered close range weapons and use infiltrate to get close, and use skirmish/retreat to stay out of melee so they can keep firing, if you make this work it seems like it would shred enemies and kite them around, but the moment they get caught you have an incredibly squishy unit since noone can use heavy armour or weapons, so the moment you come up against some elite wearing armour youre running up against a brick wall with no real soloutions besides shooting at it more. I mostly just struggled to make something that looks interesting with them, Id be interested to see what other people do with it. I dont see the application of the berserk unit given the lack of heavy weapons, id put it on the leader, give him 2 axes and grenades and thats it, and then drop him into any melee and fish for critical hits with the axes and +2 melee, but the unit isnt that strong honestly, the survivabilty is undone by the fact they cant wear armour at all, the unit will die outright rather than through sustained damage, and the killing power isnt there because they cant use heavy weapons.
Companion guy here, I've been looking at stats since Tuomas is interested (not sharing specifics of course, just broad numbers).Heres a quiz: What variant do you guys think was the least common? For context "base" is treated as a variant here. Bonus points if you try and guess what % of warbands it makes up.
>>96552774I'm going to guess dirge, black grail seems to get the least play overall and I've never seen a dirge player before. Alternately it could be a faction of New Antioch just by numbers of sub factions cannibalising each other
>>96551679I mean it's a your doods focused narrative war game. What do your doods have and do? A guy I played had a totally gorgeous ice focused court war band. Flavor then according top what fun bits you did add
>>96552774Probably dirge or the IS cannon version. Maybe 3%?
>>96542450>he buried this becuase it was so fucking generic it was embarassingHe abandoned the project? lmao.
>>96552774Abyssinian expeditionary force.Or one of the court sins if those count
>>96551961>Nuns punch way above their point cost by the way, youll want to take some no matter what. This, dont want non unless you got nuns
>>96548983Red brigade, they are not in the rules pdf but a separate one
>>96552863>>96553016>>96553062The answer is Cavalcade of the Tenth Plague, with 0.3% of warbands - terribly low lmao.
>>96553069Cant find any titty models for conversion which is my problem with them, Ive seen people using fireforge female wizards and barbarians for just women that wear robes.>>96553496That would be a shame because that is the faction you pick if you want to make your prophet the protagonist of the board and I think people see it as more mundane than it is because it doesnt get a lot of new toys. Heres what your prophet looks like in that warband;>Lamb to ignore first successful BM>Prophet ability ignores first death>this is all fallback of course to the armour you have>with the free blessing marker each turn you can use it to give injury rolls a -1, make sure the wrath triggers, or just fish for criticals with a critical hit weaponpic related, and then you get the wrath ability, which does not count as a ranged attack if a friendly unit is in melee with the target so doesnt need to roll the dice to see if it will hit your own unit, and doesnt end your turn on success, meaning you can then attack something else.
Mechanised Heavy Infantry
>>96553840Awesome. Yours?
>>96553842Yes. here's my shocktroopers
>>96539829>TQTested out my airbrush by mixing up a custom metallic blue blend for the base coat. I think it turned out pretty damn good.Still in progress, need to paint the bomb. Any suggestions for the magic stuff around the bomb?
>>96553496It doesn’t really surprise me that much. Ignoring one blood marker per model, per game isn’t really that significant and eats 5 ducats per model. It also has a chance of doing nothing if your guy gets yeeted on the spot. The war prophet ability is fun, but that’s about it for the subfaction.Every other special rule is a restriction. The Sacred Affliction has restrictions, but in return frees you up to do a lot of fun stuff.
Only one sniper priest for prussia does limit you. But you still get the one and he can do a lot of work. Several sniper priests don't really fit into the prussian gameplan anyway
>>96554752Looks pretty cool! You could try doing some like blue flames with green tips or similar to match the rest of the model
