How does it fare against other tactical oriented TTRPGs?Doesn't look like it's inspired by D&D 4e, but I might be wrong about that. The other big ones like LANCER/ICON are pretty influenced by 4e and those have kicked off their own little resurgence of sorts while Panic at the Dojo came just before that.
It's inspired by 4e but in the sense that a different person liked different things and went in their own direction. Lancer and Icon were written by the same guy, with his own ideas and preferences.PatD, for one, isn't a d20 game. You roll a dice pool AT THE START OF YOUR TURN and spend the dice on moves.
>>96551006I just googled it, seems pretty cool but mostly because I love Kung fu movies. I'm a war gamer and don't roleplay so I doubt I would be able to find anyone to play this with. hmmm pity.
>>96551708Honestly, it's almost a war game. All out of combat mechanics are just 4e skill challenges without rolling, with the stakes being only a bonus on your next fight.
>>96551725I saw a video on it, very interesting, if I present it as like a hero/skirmish war game I might be able to get some people to try it. I will post result if I can get a game in. Maybe I might try online if I have to but the idea of RPG online doesn't sound appealing to me, seems so impersonal.
>>96551006No idea what this is, but I can already tell it's reddit as fuck and you need to go back.
>>96551708If you're a war gamer, there's no way you don't roleplay. Your units aren't you.
>>96551006The art needs serious work.
>>96553656Well I don't pretend or act like a commander when I play. I feel kinda like one when I deploy my troops and make decisions but that's just how games work. I will say I've spent years making "My Dudes". Creating characters, stories, and general lore. Unfortunately most war gamers don't care about that and just dump their grey plastic mass on the table and do math.>>96553658Yea it sucks, needs less gay shit and more kung fu. I think to show off the diversity of games you can play the art work, both cover and book should show different scenes like 1980's Hong Kong, ancient china, Blood sport esque fighting tornemnt.
>>96556038>Well I don't pretend or act like a commander when I play. You don't need to.That would be one way to roleplay a war game, but not the only way.In >>96553656, I explicitly said your units aren't you, so deciding their behaviors is roleplaying.Moving them across the map is deciding their behaviors.Choosing what attack they use is deciding their behaviors. That is roleplaying at its core, despite not being expressly play-acting.
honestly I've never seen any indie RPG with good art. They all seem to hire some barely competent webcomic artist. Understandable since they have no money for real good art.
>>96557008And the companies with money like WoTC get the worst most DEI checkbox ticking artwork that they can.
>>96557127While true, most of the time the art is technically competent even if the subject is horrendous.
>>96556917I disagree
>>96551006The girl bossery one display does not sell me
>>96558343Too bad.
>>96557127This is probably one of the worst genres to complain about something like Diversity or Inclusion though, a lot of important mainstays are really inclusive.
>>96559381Granted I don't think all of has a progressive agenda in mind, especially stand outs like One Armed Boxer and it's sequel, though it does have a handicapable protagonist.
>>96559406Speaking of handicapable, here's the Crippled Avengers a group of ordinary men who learn Kung Fu after being Blinded, Deafened and made mute, Lost the use of their legs and driven mad, a Shaw Brothers classic.
>>96551006PatD is an interesting nugget surrounded by some shit you have to get to it.> The art is very french onion soup.> Its skirmish wargame wearing an RPG fig leaf. That said, the activation system, creation system and actual parts where you push your little miniatures around to beat the shit out of one another is pretty fun from what I have played. If you like tactical wargames you might get some value out of it, would be good for a monster of the week style game.
>>96551006I got it and play once or twice. It's has good ideas but the art is so early 2010s gay tumblr webcomics full of DEI. I almost think they didn't know it was supposed to be a "fighting game TTRPG" with how bad the designs are. All they had to do for art is make knock offs of characters like Ryu, Terry, etc and they couldn't even bother to do that. I swear they just got their gay friend to draw random characters and thought it was a good idea to use it.
>>96559566>DEIIt's like talking to a fucking wall.
>>96559588Go back to Bluesky, you can't tell me the art looks good. It looks like a DEI hire was pick for the job cause they were a black trans muslim or something
>>96557008>>96557729It's not the best, but sometimes it has characters. I liked Abbadon's art. Big corporate RPG art is really fucking bland these days, good at a technical level but simultaneously drab and saccharine, boring>>96559381>>96559588It's just a word people say at this point. No real meaning.
>>96559381>>96559406>>96559444>>96559588Anon, you have to differentiate between actual, honest inclusion and gay tumblr/corpofaggot "inclusion".Inclusion aside, the character designs are boring garbage and nothing will fix that.
>>96559566>I almost think they didn't know it was supposed to be a "fighting game TTRPG" with how bad the designs are.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gib72XuA3AThe dev pops up in the comments to say this video is the single best primer on the game ever produced. You might be right.
>>96557127It's completely possible to have DEI and have art that doesn't gargle donkey semen.I don't care if my books are filled with rainbow hair black women with bulges in the crotch, just put some fucking effort into it.It's a product they're expecting people to buy, for fuck sake.
>>96551006Got this and read over the rules. I'm game if anyone wants to do an online session, even if it's just a one off.
