In light of finding out just how fucking powerful Pulse Blasters are I now kinda wish the Astartes animation would've featured Space Marines against Tau Breacher Squads. I'd still expected the Space Marines to get favorable k/d ratios since they're space marines but they definitely would've taken some casualties at least and it would've forced them to slow down a lot since they would've been going up against weapons that absolutely could easily pierce their armor and in turn their own shots would be less guaranteed one-hit kills since they'd be shooting at shielded soldiers in carapace-tier armor. Still favors the Space Marines but at least they wouldn't just be able to ignore 99% of what was thrown at them.

Plus everyone loves close-quarters combat.

They're just Word Bearers. The only notable thing is I only uses contrast and shade to paint them. I guess also painting the bases to look like a road isn't that common? Lasting consequences happening in 40k books is great, but that's self-contained. It's unrelated to the game and product lines.

>>96559601
Nobody cares about any consequences that don't alter the game itself (and introducing new material isn't a consequence). "The Biel-Tan Craftworld was shattered into the a fleet-world? Ok, how does that change the tabletop? It doesn't? Ok, whatever, don't care." It's not worth writing.

Dude, did you catch what happened when Ahriman fought with Mephiston??? It was so intense, they destroyed an entire blackstone fortress and half the Chapter died, I can't believe that! Mephiston was so mad, he was about to kill Ahriman... but then Magnus conjured a storm and pulled him away! It opened up an entire sector-sized extension of the Great Rift! Also, Karandras gave his life fighting against a Tyranid invasion, it was so deep and tragic... but then he came back to life cuz he's a Phoenix Lord.

Huge stuff, was on the edge of my seat the whole time. 40k is gonna be different from now on.

>>
>>96559986
That's the neat, relatively unknown fluff of it. Machina Opus is the holy symbol of Adeptus Mechanicus, and techmarines are ordained priests of the Machine Cult. But their loyalties are first and foremost to their chapter, so they can't wear admech heraldry as is.
This is why Machina Opus on techmarines and marine vehicles is painted with black and white inverted. They pay the necessary respect to the martian priesthood, but maintain a certain distance from it.
You can check it on studio painted minis. Admech ones and guard/marine ones have the icon inverted.
>>
>>96560008
You painted it right, anon.
>>
>>96559614
They're only marginally more powerful than multilasers and we see a marine tanking that in Astartes already, but he did take the most damage to his armor than anyone else, so I doubt we'd end up seeing them actually killing marines in the marine hype animation. Tau breach gats also get out ranged by every marine weapon, which makes me assume they function sort of like pulse shotguns, which would still be cool to see.
>>
>>96560015

That's not stated anywhere
That image is literally from an article on the techpriest specific Machina Opus with cited sources for the image.

>which makes me assume they function sort of like pulse shotguns
They don't, they're more like...hand-cannons. But lasers.

That said, while both Multilasers and Pulse Blasters get AP -2 (at least at the ranges those Marines were fighting at), the Pulse Blaster is Strength 6 while the Multilaser was only Strength 3. So significantly more power with the Pulse Blaster. Even lorewise it's described as being able to put a hefty sized hole straight through an armored transport like a Chimera at close range.

I'd still favor the Marines of course to win, given their general biology, but that is not something they want to get hit with, I don't imagine they'd shrug it off like they did with that multilaser.
>>
>>96560076
>They don't, they're more like...hand-cannons. But lasers.
Well, plasma, not lasers, but you get the idea.
>>
When are we getting a Tau refresh that removes all the pulse and ion weapon tech? They've been being "phased out" in favor of the cheaper, easier and better rail tech since 5e, and that was literally more than a century ago.
>>

>>

>>96560107
NMM is a meme being pushed by youtube painters because it photographs really well at a specific angle. That's it. If you don't look at it 'correctly' it looks dumb.
>>
>>96560099
The question is....what the fuck happens to all the pulse weapons in Tau player armies when that happens?

But as for your question, if this does end up happening, I would assume it would be as part of some big event where the Tau invade the Ultarmar system, wherein they fail to take Ultramar itself but do shave off some of the border worlds from it.

NMM only really works if the models themselves are good. its why you never see firstborn in nmm.
>>
>>96560108
I've known about my colorblindness since I was a kid, but it clicked today when someone was showing off some NMM gold they did at the local. I kept moving it around to try and get it to look even remotely like gold, but couldn't do it. It was just kinda brown. I commented on how it doesn't look anything like gold to me, and that's when it clicked.

>>96560109
I can't comment on if it does or doesn't work, but man I've never seen an NMM that even looks like metal to me, let alone that looks better than just clean metallics.
>>
>>96560112
You just have two data-sheets. One for the old pulse stuff and one for the new rail stuff. Or if it's a proper range refresh, just legend the old units and people can then just proxy that old stuff in as needed.

from Throneworld
>A series of bangs resounded round the room. The ork’s chest blew out messily, showering Haas with viscera. She covered her face instinctively. A final shot rang out, bursting its head, and its huge corpse toppled towards her. Haas scrambled aside to see a giant warrior in black-and-white armour shove itself into the cell, bringing part of the doorway down. It was some kind of Space Marine, garbed in armour Haas had never seen: tall, high-backed, the helmet roughly square and formed of brutal angular plates, arms protected by massive shoulder guards. A second stood in the door, watching his comrade’s back.

>‘Thank the Emperor! We are saved, saved!’ shouted Marast. He flung his lanky body at the feet of the Space Marine, clutching gratefully at the feet of their saviours. The longshanks wept, disbelieving of their salvation.
>The Space Marine nudged Marast away with its enormous boot.
>‘Non-standard human phenotype identified. Loathe the mutant. Terminate.’
>Haas curled up and clapped her hands over her ears as the Space Marines opened fire with their terrible weapons. The longshanks did not even have time to express their surprise before their fragile bodies were pulped by mass-reactive shells. The gunfire went on forever, the individual reports merging into one rolling booming. When it stopped, Haas was amazed to find she still lived. Her hands shook as she took them from her ears. The longshanks had been obliterated, reduced to a gory slick that dripped from the walls.
>Her ears hurt agonisingly and she cried out. The Space Marine swung its blocky helmet in her direction, pointing its bolter at her. She screamed again, and the Space Marine moved his bolter away from her. When he spoke to her it was muffled, as if her ears were stuffed with fabric.
>‘Human survivor located. You, come with us.’ The warrior pointed a massive articulated finger at her, the segments sparking with a power field. ‘The Emperor protects.’

if it makes you feel any better the Black Templars got a stern talking to by their chapter's official tard wranglers(the Imperial Fists)
>‘Chapter Master Koorland, human survivors,’ said her rescuer. The chamber shook with a titanic impact somewhere high above. Grit pattered down from the roof. The Imperial Fist, Koorland, finished giving his orders to warriors in bare metal armour discoloured by heat, and others in battered gear annotated with careful script.
>‘State your names,’ said Koorland to the survivors. ‘Be quick. If you have anything worthwhile to tell us of the ork moon, reveal it now. We cannot tarry.’
>‘Your men! They killed the longshanks,’ she shouted.
>The Chapter Master turned back.
>‘What?’ His voice was hard and inhuman from his vox-grille, the bright yellow helm unreadable. Haas was terrified, but her instinct for justice was strong.
>‘Others. I was imprisoned with them. They helped keep me safe, and your men killed them.’
>‘You are?’
>‘Arbitrator Galatea Haas, Imperial Palace 149th Administrative District, General Oversight Division. I survived the Proletarian Crusade.’
>‘Is this true, Arbalt?’ Koorland asked of Haas’ rescuer.
>‘The female was domiciled with a number of aberrants,’ said Arbalt, his contempt plainly audible through the distortions of his vox-grille. ‘Non-standard humanoid phenotype. They did not deserve clemency.’
>‘They told me that they were permitted abhumans. Longshanks,’ said Haas.
>‘Longshanks? That kind are sanctioned,’ said Koorland. ‘Arbalt, Ulferic. No human is to be harmed, no matter their type, not before you report to me.’
>‘As you wish, Chapter Master,’ said Arbalt emotionlessly.
>‘Convey this information to all your fellows,’ he said angrily. ‘While you are under my command I will not countenance the needless slaying of innocents.’
>Arbalt gave an awkward bow, his movements restricted by his suit. ‘My lord Chapter Master.’

Got my first game with my own minis coming up this sunday. I'm playing Orks, 500 points, opponent has Tau and is a beginner just like me; not really expecting to win or lose.
I'm working on the list (and finishing the painting but I doubt i'll manage until then) How does this look? (using the most recent rules/point update
Detachment: War band (I like taktikal brigade the most from what i've read but i figured i would take something simple for my first game)
>Trukk
>1 boyz unit
>1 grot unit with runtherd
>1 stormboy unit
>1 big mek
>Burna boyz

That puts me at 450, I'm hesitating between switching the burna boyz with something else or using the remaining points for Detachment enhancement.
Still reading the rules and I don't have a very good grasp on it or on strategy in general, figured I would bring a decent variety of units to try them out.
The idea I have so far is to put the boyz in the trukk, put the Weird boy with the burna boyz so he can teleport either near an objective (or the other army). Stormboyz should manage on their own. Its just the grot i'm worrying about as they might lagging behind

honestly ork vehicles are fine to paint the old fashioned way
not to say an airbrush wouldnt be useful, but because so many of them are multiple bolted on plates of armor getting the clean flat finish over large flat panels isn't the issue it is with stuff like tau or eldar vehicles
drybrushing generally works if you're light with it too as they have lots of rivets and bolts that it can pick up

Psykers can be cloned and the clones won't be psychic. Same with nulls. It's a soul trait, not purely a genetic one. It can still be inherited in a way but not specifically through the genome.

If they had a reliable way to produce psykers they wouldn't constantly be hunting for them to feed to the emperor.
>>
are tau cute?
>>
>>96560359
Votann manage to clone psykers though
>>
>>96560368
Not super familiar with their lore but do they have a template for a psyker they can clone skein at the will of the Votann or do clones all just have the very small potential to be psychic and are elevated to the Grimnyr position when their talents are discovered? Kyn have greatly diminished souls on average though to keep them warp resistant so it's odd for them to have Psykers at all.
>>
>>96560367
No they are ugly but they have a nice taste
>>
>>96560376
They have specific psykers clone-skeins iirc
It's very weird that it flies in the face of all pre-established lore on clones and souls but honeslty most Votann lore seems to have just be thrown together last minute.
>>
>>96560376
Votann don't have diminished souls, they are just "shrouded" or hidden in someway so daemons can't see them.

Last time I checked, Navigators are a gene thing and they're close to Psykers. Some races like the Eldar or Orks are all psykers in their own way so if they found a way to dim them, it's not too crazy to enhance.
>>
>>96560395
Don't Eldar lose their psychic powers when they are cloned too or have weaker souls or something?
>>
>>96560383
>It's very weird that it flies in the face of all pre-established lore on clones and souls
Most clones in 40k are just fine and nothing bad happens to them.
The bad luck thing people think of only happend to the Aphriel Strain which are specifically an abhuman strain imperium made by combining the genetics from all of its best soldiers and imperial guard heroes.

Other clones in 40k are just fine.
Like Deldar, they are mostly just vatborn clones.
House Goliath on Necromunda, they are also majorly vatborn clones. And only difference between natborn goliaths and vatborn ones, is that the vatborn are slightly dumber and have slightly shorter lifespans.
Then there are also the Krieg who are also implied to be a clone army of sorts, and they are all just fine as well.
Even the clone of Horus that Abaddon killed was entirely ok, only thing happened is that Abaddon killed him and that was only done so GW can show how cool Abaddon is compared to Horus.
Same goes for all the Ferrus clones which Fulgrim tries to corrupt to Chaos which only ends in him and the clone Ferrus fighting because even as a clone Ferrus wants nothing to do with Chaos.
>>
>>96560397
Vatborn are not clones, both for deldar and kreig
>>
>>96560396
>Don't Eldar lose their psychic powers when they are cloned
There's no fluff about that.
Only thing comes to mind if the Deldar being vatborn.
But even then the reason why Deldar have no psychic powers has nothing to do with cloning, it's just that they can't use them because their psychic powers have athrophied because psychic shit is banned Commoragh.
>>
>>96560395
>it's not too crazy to enhance
the rarity of the grymnir is proof enough that the cloning of psykers, for whatever hidden reason, is capped.
>>
>>96560399
Vatborn is just cloning.
That's all it is.
>>
>>96560399
>>96560396
Technically Dark Eldar "clones" are the same soul shoved into a duplicate body.
The vatborn or halfborn are extracted fetuses raised to maturity in an artifical womb for the purposes of unburdening the mother from a lengthy Eldar pregnancy that would leave her vulnerable.
>>
>>96560396
eldar don't really clone themselves to increase their numbers, they clone themselves to maintain their numbers, they essentially fish the souls back, they don't make new ones

are they? I thought vatborn's thing was that they are also not conceived naturally. Trueborns are born out of normal conceptions (and makes sense for the fetus to grow outside the body, typical deldar stuff), while halfborns/vatborns are created in a vat.
>>
>>96560405
Or they don't clone more Grimnir because there's largely no point.
The society functions well enough with the amount they have.

free customization lead to bigger homogenization because there is 0 reason to not pick the actually good weapon compared to the past where taking it might've been +15pt on a character model
rules dumbing down
more herohammer shit
too easy to get lethal sustained which is the most cookiecutter shit
armies are too cheap (points wise) so outside of few outliers you're going to horde out, this is especially bad for starters as some armies reached a point where your cost:point ratio is 2:1 instead of 2,5-3,xx:1 (marines are in the better half which leads to more marinebloat in stores)

gear is a persistent problem because there has always been a best option, it just didn't always used to be the strongest weapon and you needed to do some basic maths to work it out.
the rules haven't been "dumbed down" enough to make the game quicker to play, which is the number one problem for making the game actually good or interesting. you can't do shit in 3-4 rounds of interaction.

11th could save the game by reducing points to 1200 standard, removing all rerolls and rolls to wound (saving literally an hour from a typical game) and banning knights

I don't know. But it's not Orks. Orks are barely above Deldar, making them the third least selling Xenos. That means that CWEdlar, Tyranids, Necrons, Tau all have to be selling above Orks. Then you have the Chaos faction and all the Imperial factions that aren't agents or any of the chamber militants.

How about a game? Had a game of votann vs tau yesterday.

After spending a good chunk of time explaining my army rule and all the situational buffs I'll get over the course of the game to my opponent, we started with Tau getting the first turn. Our mission was terraform, so he went up and had his kroot terraform two of the nml objectives. There weren't any sightlines to any of my units though so no shots were made.
>>

And so, for my turn I 2 had to steal an objective, so I did my own deep striking and placed 2 units of hearthguard to take his home objective and another NML objective. I had to use my landfort sparingly to leave space for a charge to steal the center objective, so unfortunately I didn't kill the flamer suits in front. After the charge, though, I did have the center objective so I scored that secondary despite my hearthguard failing their charges. Importantly though, I was now in FT so I was hoping my defensive buffs would start to help me stay alive during the next rounds.

For my turn 3 I was now on the back foot and had to kick things into high gear. I had my hearthguard do their best to actually take the objectives they failed to get last turn so they shot and charged what they could. I successfully took his home objective, but the pathfinders spiked 4 6+ saves against my hearthguard and stayed alive while the transport was living with just a few wounds left. It'd be another turn before this one was mine which was bad news.

The tau turn 4 was sealing the deal. By this point he was far ahead on points thanks to the terraform points scoring on both player turns, but I wasn't out yet. He had some more kroot that had deep striked last turn charge my earthshakers and while it did flip my objective for a turn they held strong and ended up winning this fight (not before the rampagers came over and cleaned house next turn, though)

I had to make a gambit on my turn 4, because if I tried playing the objective game here it wouldn't be enough. I did terraform on his home objective and had my other hearthguard unit, which had managed to clear the tau they were in melee with during the tau turn 4, shoot at his vehicle killers in the center, hoping that my kapricus could use it's shoot and scoot ability or a charge to flip the objective and score area denial as well as open myself up for cleanse next turn while doing terraform elsewhere all while denying him more primary scoring. But, my gambit didn't pay off. The kapricus missed it's railgun shot and the hearthguard weren't enough to take down the whole unit with the character. The kapricus charged and while it did manage to contest the objective, I wouldn't be scoring anything on it anytime soon.
>>
>>96560230
What other units do you have? Generally that's a fine list

>>96560992
And so, we went into round 5 knowing the result. That gambit was my last effort and it failed, so we rolled a few more dice and mathed it out. My kapricus and earthshakers died and with nothing to go for the hearthguard (and both for them to shoot, either) they did some actions to get myself as many points as possible. And while it was close, it just wasn't enough. We finished the game 76-70 in favor of the tau.
It was an extremely fun game and I was very surprised I was able to get the score that close despite the odds. Tau are seriously no joke even to the toughness of the votann. Funny enough, I think my -1 to wound rule only came into play around 3 times during the game. Most often he was matching my toughness or lower than it. And when he was exceeding, it was into vehicles. I think if I had remembered to use rapid ingress the game would've been much different, but oh well. Still a great time against one of my favorite opponents.

Sorry that this writeup was a bit longer than my last, I tend to remember more about the games I had more fun playing. This one was extremely fun.

I agree with him. The idea of soldiers on cybernetic stilts prowling the battlefield is very cool, shame it's not a unit but a character. It is also a way, way less awful model than the chicken helicopter and the hovercraft. The default helmet is bad, however, it looks like an AI artefact the way the goggles are doubled.

Man, I am so pissed about the new admech models. Aside from the pteraxii and this guy, I think they are pretty bad. The initial models had a different tone, and they ruined it with comical 1400 designs and cowboys. The baroque wings make sense for the pteraxii, not for a flying aircraft.

I would have suggested the gunship too, but it's an older kit, many find it stubby and ugly, and it's questionable whether it's going to survive for much longer going forward.

the deathwatch flyer is much cooler, I'd just grab that one and proxy it as the storm raven instead.
>>
>>96561087
>Those look cool but that's the scheme of my DG lads already
Sure, but there are many others.
You clearly need directions but also want something that feel yours. Minor Warbands is the sweet spot.

>Skyrar's Dark Wolves
Descendant of traitor Space Wolves. Unique enough and good for kitbashing

>Bleak Brotherhood
If you want to experiment with fluo paint, hexwraith technicals or anything like that, there is potential to make them cool.

>Brotherhood of Darkness
Night Lords with a Word Bearer style. Nice if you want the new NL kits.

>Dragon Warriors
Scales and flamers. Traitor Salamanders, so there is plenty of room for conversion.
>>
I'm working on my Eldar Combat Patrol, just finished the Dire Avengers. Jesus Christ why did GW put two of this fucking kit in the goddamn starter box? Are they trying to scare people away from building an Eldar army?

Like, looking at the pictures on the webzone, they don't look great. Not terrible, just OK. But then you actually build the kit and it sucks so bad. Not just the age of the design but the age of the mold, the fit on the parts is awful. There are big gaps on like a third of the complete shoulderpads because the pieces just don't go together well.

There are so many nice new Eldar kits, why did they dump these things in what is supposed to be the introduction to the army?

I think earthshakers are a meme until GW decides to ease up on indirect fire for its sins. I probably won't run them again.
Defenders are pretty fun though. 70 points for a nice railgun shot that can shoot and scoot to cover itself is a very nice tool.

Can inquisitors order the creation of a space marine chapter?

it shouldn't he hard to source a combi weapon

for the extra mile you could replace the sword with a knife and the head with one showing a somewhat more tacticool and phobos-like look

but it depends on the spare bits you have
>>
>>96561204
Maybe on paper, but no. The Imperium not being fascist, there is no word of law and only what you can force to happen, most of the time. The Highest rungs of the Imperium behave more like a social group than a government.

Imperial Agents, Grey Knights. Deathwatch, and Sisters of Battle should all be melted into one Inquisition Codex, and any models that don't fit the mold should just have their datasheets sold with the model and be attachable at will to any Imperial Army.
>>
>>96561206
it's a ship moving by inertia, there's noone at the helm anymore, they might swerve slightly to avoid some shit on the way, but they're inevitably moving forward regardless of anyone's say on the matter
>>
>>96561209
Are new space marine chapters not made in 40k? I didnt know that.
>>
>>96561245
Do any of the Xenos factions have a similar power structure that is somewhat vague and spread out or would you say most of them have a single focal point leadership group.
>>
>>96561234
sisters of battle have more than enough units to stand as an army in their own right and aren't really as known to be auxiliary forces for other armies like inquisitors or specialised strike teams can be

the 4 main imperial armies should thus be marines, guard, admech and sisters
with everything else being in an imperial agents index of units you can field accompanying one of those 4 army, or choose to specialise into completely and exclusively (like doing only knights), or use as keystone for a unified imperial force that has the index units at the head but can also incorporate units from the 4 main armies
>>
>>96561234
Why? Sororitas is a nice and fully expanded range. Same with GK. They're just old models. You're trying to fix one army, DW (space marines) by killing two armies? Just fold DW back into space marines. Make a DW detachment and be done with it. +1 to hit and wound and damage against xenos. Strong enough to be great into it's intended matches, and useless into anything else, as a balancing factor. Done.

eldar and squats are both extremely decentralised, way more than the imperium, while orks and necrons may claim to have a supreme ruler in this or that other figure, but there are always a lot of cracks in the chain of command as well
>>
>>96561264
>>96561260
All the Militant Chambers sell as well as Deldar, and Deldar are leaving us soon. You don't want to join them do you? Of course Imperial Agents is the worst selling codex in the game.

I dont think that's ever the reason they put stuff in starters.
First off, considering GW's stock problems over the last half decade, it seems unlikely that they are overproducing many units ever.
Secondly, starter boxes are usually one of the best selling items for their army.
So it's really unlikely that they would have enough unsold stock of one kit to make a significant dent in the number of kits they need to fill the starters.
Especially when we're talking about more of a niche, Elite unit like Dire Avengers.

I always found it weird how the greater Eldar race has had at times four armies dedicated to themselves, only real faction other than Imperium and Chaos to have more than one army at a time, until Tyranids got GSC in 7th. No. Only the High Lords of Terra can legally create a new chapter. Though special dispensation can be made, for example if a chapter somehow goes overstrength and they don’t try to hide it. The extra dudes can be rounded up and used as part of a new founding. Usually through the high lords declare one as part of a major campaign to stabilize places. Gman can also basically just wave his hand and have them founded too but he’s a primarch.
