i think the idea of dragons (by colors) being good, neural or evil is pretty fucking retardedlike why can't we have a good red dragon and an evil silver dragon? oh wait it's a DnD problembut the influence it did already ruined most fantasy dragons for me when they are so predictable in how they will behave unless the GM ignores all the bs and does his own thing
Anything other than evil or animalistic (but still cruel) dragons is a mistake.
I do not understand the point of this thread. Well, I DO understand the point (to bitch), but I don't understand what the complaint is beyond "I don't like how D&D does things!" Ok. Great. So don't play D&D. Or play D&D and just do your own thing. The end.
>>96562554Literally NPC mentality.
>>96562554>hates D&D>still so obsessed with it that it ruins dragons in other fantasy for himKWAB
>>96562554You're the game MASTER bruh. Want to make dragon alignment independent from color in your game? Just do this.>In my setting / my version of the setting, any dragon can be any alignment Boom.
>>96562586ur boring
>>96562554>Good dragons resemble precious metals, having been created as living embodiments of various flavors of virtue>Evil dragons, spawned from a multi-headed hydra goddess, resemble their evil mother and carry within them the personality flaws that make her evilYou're a fucking FOOL if you can't make this work. Yeah, it's great not being able to tell outright if a dragon is good or evil. Thing is, good aligned creatures aren't always NICE. Copper dragons in particular will fucking imprison you until it's satisfied you gave it enough chit chat or funny stories. Silver dragons will fuck shitloads of people because they want to make a lot of halfbreeds for the purposes of ego, presumably leaving a lot of single mothers behind while they go off to do dragon shit. Gold dragons don't give a fuck and won't lift a claw unless the threat is cataclysmic. Bronze dragons will sink ships and presumably kill shitloads of people if you violate their NAP and go through their waters despite gentle encouragement to not do so in the form of summoned storms. A good creature being a dick is an interesting roleplay opportunity, it allows you to possibly reason with it and maybe make an argument to persuade it to stop being a dick, or it'll allow you to expand a little on the larger problems with the setting or factions within it. In short, get better at GMing.
>>96562780Good dragons are more boring than evil ones.
I think colour coded dragons are already retarded, so don't include that in my games.
>>96562554Would a crystal dragon make a good wife?
OP won't reply to any of you dumbasses other than to necrobump
>>96563195nah
>>96562586The most boring shit ever.
>>96562554What are some other ways to categorize dragons? I'm gutting the dragon color/alignment system in my setting, but I don't know what to replace it with other than the generic af fire/water/earth/air
>>96562554The game was made by people who believed in objective evil and biological determinism. An entire species being inherently evil made absolute sense to them.
>>96562586I'm gonna take it one step further than (you):Dragons that can talk are unfathomably gay. Maybe MAYBE telepathy for extremely powerful dragons (like any powerful monster) gets a pass OCCASIONALLY, other than that? No. Talking dragons is furfag shit.
>>96573407Nah, smaug is cool.
>>96573407Now that is some prime contrarianism there. Talking dragons is old as fuck and probably as old as the concept of dragons too depending on where you look.
>>96562586>Things can only be one wayRetarded take
alignment in general is fucking retarded and is right up there with faggy japs with "adventurer guild" niggatry.>>96573407complaining about furries in 2025? god you're pathetic, kill yourself nigger ;^)dont even bother replying this thread is dogshit, it goes in every field.
>>96562554Just look up Mystara Dragons there can have any alignment and canonically 20% of mystaran red dragons are either good or neutral
>>96562593It's because they're braindead normies who are too stupid to have the brain capacity to learn rules for any games besides D&D, or consider just changing D&D to suit their tastes.
>>96562554I can't remember the name of the story but it has the coeruel (or however you spell it) which was a creature that was intelligent enough to ghetto rig its own star ship but otherwise lives an completely animalistic life as well as killing off all others of its own kind. All that to say I prefer my dragons to be intelligent but have no need to interact with it or need civilization and leave the door open to a mindset that borders on indifference to outright cruelty for its own amusement with their moods and behaviours further augmented by their biological nature and environment which are all malleable
D&D's own Eberron completely detached dragon colors from alignments.D&D 4e made metallic dragons neutral rather than good. Morally grey, rather than outright good.
>>96562593D&D is iconic. It's to tabletops what lotr is to books. What's the point of talking about D&D? Nay. A thread about D&D is its own point. It's meaningful unto itself.
