Ruthabee made a video recently finally airing out the frustrations that are slowly choking the brand out. Interestingly he brought up Fables being playable but did NOT bring up the $350 price point. He instead said "what you guys don't like cards that cost 50, 70 a hundred dollars?" Dancing entirely around the real issue of card prices pushing into territory only a few can tread.

This isn't a coincidence, it is a turning point for the brand. They fucking know they pushed the collectibility side way too far and are killing the player side with stupid busted power scaling and living legend adjustments. The game has been on the decline despite these prices getting out of fucking control, and Papa White has to make the big call to start finally making the game accessible again.

at the end of the day you can talk about whatever the fuck you want, but assuming you actually want to find people to talk TO (perhaps giving too much credit) this will help you find your people.

for sure. they don't get spammed as much as the tcgs, but they've been here from day 1. a good chunk of the original /acg/ is anons who merged in from /anrg/ for fuck's sake.
the question is where you draw the line since it's a grey area between us and bgg at where exactly "heavily expanded cardgame without random packs" shades over in to "cardgame in a box". usually a question of how heavily expanded and how tcg-like the gameplay is. we've got keyforge and the obvious LCGs like ANR, Ashes, AGOT, etc. /bgg/ usually does the lane battlers (Omen, Radlands, Pixel Tactics) and the deckbuilders (Dominion, Ascension, Clank). if a box game has really heavy TCG elements like Blue Moon or Codex it will get mentioned here sometimes. actual discussion of those games is very rare though, it will just be a passing mention ("oh, this game has 2-side abilities like pixel tactics").

technically, I guess, but they've seen *very* occasional discussion here. I'm talking like, in 599 threads, you could probably count the number of times on your hands, and for the same time period on bgg it's been discussed hundreds of times. the games with a co-op mode stapled on (Lorcana, Keyforge, Alpha Clash, FAB in 2035) get talked here, but usually not much *about* the co-op mode.

Superslam looks fucking fantastic design-wise, just like Rosetta. There's a clear distinction between those two sets and everything else. It's like a completely different team built them.

It's very clear what it means to be Revered or Reviled, and they again chose to focus more on designing card pools over just hero-as-archetype.
Contrast with the confused mess that is Draconic, or the ultra-safe "introduction" of Necromancer. We don't actually know what it means to be a Necromancer in FaB - Gravy Bones is Gravy Bones. Necromancer might as well not exist yet.

Even the art seems to echo Rosetta in the way it's taking more stylistic risks compared to usual.

I haven't played since the first set (Beta), and it was quite fun at the time with lots of interesting builds. Haven't played it since though, because the 1 set per 2 years really kills any interest I have in the game, you really exhaust interest in a set by like month 4~6, let alone 12 or 24 months. Local scene also dried up.
I heard what they did with the Dragonlord mini set, which doesn't bode well (for those that don't know, they made an extremely limited print run of legal unique cards you can only get at some events, basically like an MTG secret Layer).

I think these heroes are inherently more fun to explore than say Rosetta heroes, surprising amount of nuance to how they all operate. I think people gravitated towards the brutes as being the easiest to identify if you have the pool for them or not but the guardians can do absolutely ballsy moves and out maneuver the brutes. The defensive tools this set are interesting without being outrageous, and you see some top deck manipulation as small upside. Games went to time for Brutes more easily, specifically tuffnut mirrors. I haven't got to really play everyone yet but the pools were very fairly open and not one sided. Lots of folks changed their first hero pics because they played differently than they let on, which is a testament to the nuance the heroes bring to the game. I still prefered high seas and hunted but this is a close third of the most recent sets, if you liked those you'll enjoy this I feel.

I have no one card to watch out for only know that Lyath can potentially push 20 damage in a sealed deck and even Kayo can win if you get low enough love (his charm is a reverse Wreckless Swing). is the anon who's making the duel masters simulator here? I just want to know how will be the UI? I think it is logical to put thelife pounts cards one by one (and not semi-stacked) face down and the mana cards have space between them but it tighten the more you have. cards in hand are at the bottom where you can see the cards of course.

Ideally I'd like to have the final UI look just like playing the actual game. Each player with a row for battle zone, shield zone, mana zone, and then hand below. I want every card to be fully visible, even the shield zone cards which are usually face down, because sometimes they aren't. I guess I can leave out the opponent's hand and just display the number of cards in it.
Though it might be a little tight; effectively seven rows of cards on-screen would probably make them appear pretty small. That's probably alleviated a little bit because it'll be 3D so due to perspective, your cards will appear a bit bigger being closer and your opponent's will be smaller, and reading the cards isn't gonna be a problem because like many simulators, it'll have the card pop up bigger with translated text to the side when you mouse over it.
I might see about doing some limited camera controls, like zooming in, panning, maybe some slight rotation. That might be very important because I intend on supporting more than two-player modes like Dueparty (DM commander equivalent).
I think I'll do some mock-ups some time to get an idea of how it will look. I'll probably be onto doing an initial quick UI soon anyway (pure 2D) because I'm getting close to finishing all the initial technical bullshit that I need to do (card scripts, server, redoing early game engine stuff).

Anyway I'm happy to receive any suggestions for UI ideas, or if anyone's got some examples of other simulators that have good UIs to blatantly rip-off of.

huh isn't that cheating? if you know what shield you have, you can work a strategy around it...so better let them face down without being able to know what cards as shield you have??

I swear I just can never fucking beat Blue/White blocker cancer in Gundam TCG. It's always such a crapshoot. I've been constantly tweaking my blue/red deck trying to find something that lets me consistently beat them, but i just think I'm struggling with strategy. LFrith is hard as hell to crack in the early game, then in comes the Kira and strike spam that has JUST ENOUGH AP for some fucking reason to block me out. I've tried the bog standard Cyber newtype red/blue and I feel like i still struggle with it and it still feels hard, so I thought adding Sayla for some extra "umph" would get me to the promised land and I'm just having no such luck. Any suggestions? Am I just missing the best way to win against these comps? Feels like it's gotta be a strat problem with how I'm using kshat and amuro and such. Maybe I'm focusing too much on just knocking down every blocker everytime I can. Current deck:

When I say visible I mean you can see the card on-screen instead of it being hidden or represented in some other way, so in the case of face down cards like most shields, you see the Duel Masters card back.
This would be opposed to something like Duel Masters Play's (pic related), where the creatures in the battle zone are abstracted to their art, a number, and some icons, the shields are represented with small blue rectangles, and the mana zone is just numbers.
I want everything to visibly be a full card.

I should really check out EDOPro more than I have. As far as I can tell, it and MTG Forge are the closest existing sims to what I'm planning on doing for Duel Masters.

I have the highest ratio of wins with that deck but also the biggest fumbles, just today I lost in the last mach (was going 3-0 ended 3-1) because couldn't play units till turn 4 despite more than half my deck having units of cost 1-2. And yeah I mulligan and also pile shuffle, then riffle then overhand 7 times

I feel like rush is the worst deck to come back after a bad start

I've kind of accepted needing to implement some camera panning in case you spew your entire deck into your battle zone.
I don't want to have to make cards tighten up to the point they overlap because it might be ambiguous whether a card is overlapping just because you're running out of space or because it's evolved onto, linked, or has some other rules interaction with the card it's overlapping.

Actually another solution might be just to add extra rows to the battle zone when it gets too big.
I'll probably have to do that anyway for when someone brings out this absolute unit.

Technically Duel Masters. My brother and I owned a handful of cards, but had no idea how to play. I don't have those cards anymore, but I do remember having one of these dudes.
As for acgs I've actually played, Force of Will was the first, but I had no IRL friends who wanted to get into it so I just played online.
Netrunner became the first acg I ever got my friends to try out, and while they enjoyed it, it didn't inspire them to actually get into the game.
