I genuinely do not know what people like about Black Templars outside of "They Look Cool" and super unfunny memes. They're as one note as you can get, outside of Grimaldus (Yes, I did read Helsreach, yes I did love it. And while it did scratch the surface of what you could do with BTs, it feels more like a reflection on what a Space Marine is than a certain chapter. Grim did not need to be a BT for his story to work, or any other character.)

It feels like they were already popular, and so people love them just because of that, any other reason. Basically, word of mouth, they feel like they have to like them because that's what they are. They are the thwell-likeded Space Marines. Real Imperial Fists are both more compelling and better.

So close, and yet so far.

I don't think there's a single thing I've seen a BT fan claim they like about BTs that don't apply to much, much better chapters. They're basically just an edgy aesthetic for tourists to latch on to because they don't actually engage with the hobby in any meaningful way,

Well, Anon, there are certain points where something is just "An Opinion" and there are some where you recognize it's a Meme/HIvemind take
Of course, there's nothing wrong with going with the stream. I'm sure some people really do think BTs look cool, but you also have to recognize that a lot of it is just people saying what others have said with no real opinion on the matter. Other chapters do what they do, but better, and I feel ike a lot of BT fans would get more into the hobby if they thought for themselves for once and checked other things out instead of just doing what others have said.

There's no Psyop its just common regrettable human behavior, im sure you would agree Marvel Movies are and were never the height of cinema just because thats what millions of people and money said.

Death Watch was just an example of two things
>Black Armor, but visually interesting
>People who really, really hate Xenos, but with some Nuance
Both of which mog the BTs in every way that I could go into, but would take several paragraphs you won't read anyway

But if it *has* to be Knightly Aesthic, there's a million Space Marines that are Knight-like and do it better than BTs. Dark angels are just the first that come to mind and are STILL interesting characters.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOxh36e1i5k
This is just a fan story (I believe) and it's still a million times more interesting then anything BT related.

I guess what this really all boils down to is wishing BTs weren't so popular, because I think it's overall damaged their image. If Black Temps weren't the fan favorite of tourists, I feel like they could be delved into more and explored to the limit of Grim in more ways than the surface level hell they're trapped in right now. Or maybe being surface-level is all they can be due to what they are. Its a shame GW seems set on killing them off because of their popularity and whats that has brought given the current retcons.

Grey knights are one of a million examples of other chapters doing what BTs do, but more interesting. That's mostly because BTs are as surface-level as you can get, so a lot of what they are applies to a lot of other factions as well, and of course, it's going to be expanded on eventually. Hell, it doesn't even have to just be Loyal. Deathguard and Wordbearers have many of the same concepts, but are still more interesting.

For those of us who dont give a shit about the lore, and actually hobby, which you guys never consider.

I can pick up a model, paint i black.. And drench the fucker in whatever markings and decals I want to - and somehow the autists accept that.

If I did that with whatever bumfuck «real» chapter, the spergs would lose their minds at the LGS and call me out for using that particular chapter’s rules.

in b4 «your dudes», see the above. CBA lore, and def. not having to make up some stupid shit to please whatever dude ask me what primarch they stem from.

>>
>>96564559
They are cool and its nice that they embody the unyielding rage of Rogal Dorn that is mostly lost in the other Imperial Fist successors. I know the others can hate just as hard (see the Crimson Fists with Orks) but none really embody it as much as the Templars.

Most people prefer to fight on the good side, so ugly demon worshipers and ugly rot men aren't exactly doing it for most.
>Grey knights are one of a million examples of other chapters doing what BTs do, but more interesting.
Grey Knight books suck, their models are old and ugly and their gimmick robs them of personality, as they lean too much into the monk bit character wise.
>>
As an older fag, Templars used to be more interesting when the lore clearly was all about how different they were from other chapters, how their crusades and oaths made them fundamentally different in temperament.

How they embodied the great crusade, so before the 60+ novel series, this was the best way to get an idea of how the Legions functioned.

They played as a marine horde army with their 20 man squads that ran at you as they were shot at, so they played completely uniquely.

Flat out restricted certain allies and unit choices.

Lore wise they were atheist, which was a fun contradiction between their physical looks and their ideological values that harkened back again to the Great Crusade.

A forced hero choice of the Emperor's Champion, who was a meatier hero then normal base marine heroes.

Now they have been toned down a lot, to the point where they are basically sword brethren spam, but back in the day, the 3rd edition Templars book was pure awesome.

I never played them, but they were easily one of my favorite chapters back in the day and compared to the other variant chapters, had the most visual differences with the upgrade kits and special heroes and such.

Well let's not be silly, there are good guys at least relative to the setting.

The Tau are the most outright beneficial as far as who it's best to be ruled by for most species.

The Eldar and Votann both have their dickish moments but they're relatively more likely to just leave people alone most of the time and look after their own.

The Necrons are supremacists but they're not as genocidal as the Imperium in most cases.

And even the Imperium even though it sucks still manages to be better than being ruled over by Chaos, as low as a bar as that is.
>>

>The Tau are the most outright beneficial as far as who it's best to be ruled by for most species.
Tau view themselves as a superior race to all auxiliaries, even to people in lower castes
To be a part of the Tau is to be a monkey in a cage, you will be treated well, better than other factions, but nothing more than a tool.
>The Eldar and Votann both have their dickish moments, but they're relatively more likely to just leave people alone most of the time and look after their own.
Eldar murder fucked a death god into existence, and continues killing millions to save ONE eldar
A good bit of Eldar are torture pirates who continue the rape murder to an even worse degree. Idk anything about the Votann other then theyre Dwarves so I guess they closer then other factions. Im sure theyre taking babies and smelting them into weapons or something.
>The Necrons are supremacists but they're not as genocidal as the Imperium in most cases.
Youre kidding
Necrons are only not as genocidal because they havent all woken up yet, they would be 100x more genocidal if they could.
>And even the Imperium even though it sucks still manages to be better than being ruled over by Chaos, as low as a bar as that is.
"To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim darkness of the far future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods."

I never saw any evidence of this. Granted, I only based my understanding of the chapter from the codex you posted. It's full of religious quotes and it very much seems like they are worshipping the emperor and spread his faith among the stars with their crusades.

A significant portion of the player base unironically likes the fascism of 40K and the ridiculously genocidal behaviour of the Space Marines. The Black Templar give the least fucks of all violating chapter size, cloaking psykers as "champions", and generally each marine is as freakish as a normal chaplain.

It's the GOD WILLS IT chapter. I like that shit myself but I find the people who think religious fanaticism should be a part of real life is incredibly troubling.

First off, that's more than enough.

but beyond that, they are what all Space Marines should be. They are true warrior monks, immortal religious superwarriors dedicated to an unending crusade. There are no excuses made for Black Templars like you see with other Chapters. They are zealots and all of their actions spring from that. Chaining their weapons to their hands is the best kind of Warhammer, a completely stupid and over the top expression of a concept so pure in it's intent that it becomes insanely cool.

I fuckin love Black Templars and would absolutely build an army of them if they weren't also the #1 Scare The Hoes Army.

Is it really that hard to understand why someone who likes space knights in power armor are drawn to the faction called "templars" and have very obvious knightly influence in the form of their color scheme/symbology (Hospitallers), equipment (commonly seen wielding power swords and heavy shields), and general theming around holy crusades?
I'm a dark angel player btw. I picked them for the exact same reason BT players picked BT - they're cool as shit to me. Only I just like the green and bone beige more than I liked black and white and I think the current Lion has a really fucking cool design
I also play a custom Sisters order kill team themed around a miko color scheme
