Is it worth it to buy recasts instead of GW shit?
Depends on the source of recaster. And whether the recasts are good quality or not.
>>96582912Have you tried stopping playing with toy soldiers and acting like an adult?
>>96582981Where do you think we are?
>>96582912It would be worth it if good recast sources were provided. Eyeing any potential recasters by chance, OP?
>>96582912depends on the model and recaster. i had a Chinaman who made really good quality stuff, i bought all my infantry from him and never had any complaints -- good prices, near-GW quality, fast shipping -- but i think he quit. haven't found anyone up to par since.that said, i wouldn't buy recast vehicles and superheavies, because the inevitable warping makes assembling them a huge pain in the ass. not worth the savings, unless you're super poor and super desperate to get a Knight.
>>96585160what country are you in?
>>96585257Canada.
>>96585327dark miniatures then
>>96585737Are they in plastic or resin?
>>96585750Resin of course Never seen a recaster do plastic
>>96585760Alright I'll need to think about this. Thank you for bringing Dark to my attention.
I appreciate Recasters making shit GW either doesn't make anymore or make difficult to get.I paid like $10 for the Brood Brothers upgrade sprue. I genuinely don't think GW sells it in any capacity. I haven't really done it since out of lack of interest, but it'd be nice to get a few Finecast characters in a better material.
>>96582981Toy soldiers started as an adult educational aid that trickled down to childrens' playtime for the better.
>>96582981Have you? You might have stopped playing with toy soldiers, but the "acting like an adult" clearly needs some attention.
>>96582981Go back to /pol/
The answer is always yes. GW kits are overpriced for what they are. I have 2 recasters I like one is cheap and the other is super cheap, but the quality is hit or miss sometimes and I need green stuff and some time to clean the model slips and flash. But even then, once painted, I’m happy with it.
>>96585760How common are recasters going for metal? I'll still take resin if it's the only option but I'd prefer old models in metal for nostalgia more than anything.
>>96582981No, I'm still playing with my action figures and being an adult. Why would I want to simply act like an adult when I could be one?
>>96588633Not that many sadly, of the 5 or 6 Ive used only 1 used to cast in metal and they closed a while back
>>96585760>Never seen a recaster do plasticSome of the chinese recasters are making their own chimera and lemanruss track unit sprues. They are quite obvious due to the soft detail.
>>96582912I like the originals, I like being able to do the original clean up myself, I like working with plastic, but I am at some point going to have to start getting at least some recasts. Some kits just feel like much worse value than others. Like I bought 2 war dogs recently and while yes its expensive at least you get some substantial things. Even like csm possessed are quite large on the tabletop, you get some substance for being wildly overcharged. But I have an old Eldar combat patrol, want to do eventually do a craftworld whose "thing" is having tonnes of howling banshees cause I like them, and I am not paying full price for 20 small, skinny models in boxes of 5. That's gonna be recasts if I ever get around to it. But I'll still buy like the eldar tanks or wraithlords in plastic because the cost to what you get ratio is bad but not quite as absurd.
>>96585760>>96588965They've started to "recast" bases in plastic too recently. This ones easy(ish) to spot because they fucked up and mirrored it by accident (right) but from the top and once painted the non-mirrored ones are totally indistinguishable.Hopefully glorious chinaman and his technology will continue to evolve and make more plastic clones of the most popular and profitable kits.
>>96589543True, Z's plastic Leman Russ' (I know I know, Z and vehicles) are indistinguishable.
>>96588908Have you ever used Tabletop Minis? He looks great but I don't know what material he uses
>>96588633Not that common, I've seen them somewhere tho, remember seeing all the old original IG and SM squads in metal, infinity models are often metal Black legion minis had them, not cheap
>>96592510Miranda Irene provided me all my Bretonnians in metal
>>96582981this is the worst board to post stupid responses like that, where the fuck do you think you are? you fucking retarded faggot
>>96582912Only if they're good recasts and in metal.
>>96582981Toy soldiers are an adult business.
>>96582964This. The last recasting I got were absolutely terrible, some place in china. All small details were lost/patchy/full of holes. Only decent thing about that purchase is they gave me way more than I ordered. I moved to 3d printing my own after that
In my limited experience the flash is annoying but the fidelity is pretty high
I've been eyeing up a couple of metal European recasters of Oldhammer stuff But I already have enough miniatures. Though in some ways it would be more logical to paint something like a rare, recast old Rogue Trader Inquisitor than another plastic 6th edition Orc
