What do you think could be THE sport in a scifi space game? I believe that spacefaring civilizations should have their futuristic equivalent of soccer, a sport spread everywhere that can be played in a small scale among kids as much as absurdly huge events with tons of money exchanging hands. It should be in zero-g to make it feel space-y and it should be complex to the point people in the outside don't get what's going on.But I don't really have a picture of what it could be like. I've toyed with having sport stars at a station or a big match interupting time sensitive discussions, but I always fear players actually wanting to join in even though that'd be great. Whatever system is fine, I'm interested even if it's not gonna be something I could insert 1 to 1. Purely conceptual ideas are fine too.
The only space game I run is Mothership, I haven't seen anything sport related except racing and it wasn't too interesting.I'd try to include interactions for every stat, so it feels like the rest of the game instead of constantly rolling the same thing. In this case it means there has to be:>strengthmaybe wrestling? >speed this is the easiest one, getting to the other side of the field>intI guess this could be used to calculate a shot? It's not realistic but it's something.>combatGuns? Non lethal amunition... or maybe lethal?then the saves get harder>SanityMaybe if you get hit really hard and lose all direction you might need a sanity roll to get your bearings>FearWho acts first I guess?>BodyMaybe to get the ball or react to block it?All in all I guess I'm picturing pic related
>>96589850Pod racing. Not the Star Wars version but the slingshot racing from The Expanse.
Hover Lacrosse.Take a Page from batman beyond.Take a bunch of impoverished that want to be violent on hover skates. If you're doing space stations, always have two teams, the north team and the south team, have each of the north teams in one league, and have the south teams in a seperate league with two games a season where north and south clash. It could be an amazing thing if done right.
>>96590478>MemeshipNo thanks, I like functional games.
>>96589850It would be much easier to relegate your idea to fantasy, because spacefaring beyond our moon treads far into improbability, according to the current applications of the systematic study of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. And even trips to the moon take an unrealistically unsustainable cost of time and resources, with high risks involved with not just the launch, but the transit itself.I'm sure you could look into theoretical fuel sources that are plausible and haven't been disproven yet if you want to keep things scientific, but if you want to focus more on fun, just make it fantasy and don't worry so much about plausibility.
>>96590613Star wars version would be cooler though. We have to find a bunch of goofy aliens first however.
Maybe this is more cyberpunk than strictly sci fi, but I remember watching some kind of show where people had the ability to upload their consciousness to a hard disc located in the person's neck and you could switch between bodies at will as long as you had the resources to do so. One of the effects of this was that you could have combat sports that were essentially to death, so long as the disk remained undamaged. I feel like that could be interesting as errata and as something the players could get involved with or in.
>>96590746fuck, skate+sport is a really good one, but maybe more for a cyberpunk game.
>>96590811that's secondary, there are already space settings. The question is about sports played in those already existing settings.>>96590820Isn't podracing just nascar with PvP?Fun, but not really special.
