Going to work soon. Sharing update I posted last night on my scheme progress.Gray basecoat that's only one I have durable enough on my flimsy oily-plastic models. Which has to be that way for the limbs to not break, I suppose.Pink, for highlights later, a coat and then more on the edges after it dries.Red speedpaint, sometimes a few layers as it's a little wonky.Tamiya Panel Liner to shade the whole model, and it gives a durability coat. Speedpaint+this panel liner helps the model from cracking paint it seems.(Lots of tests to confirm, fml)Then the abdomen(butt) turned black and I'm fiddling with the markings. From the images I've seen of the Red Widow I think I can just mess up a lot and fix it and not care.Steps left:Shiny topcoat, either the superthin glue(again, bendy models) or the X-22 tamiya clearcoat, have to test that.Basing the model and getting those bushes someone recommended me a while back to hide the pins holding them up.Coloring unit colors on the bases ring to identify which model belongs to which unit, I might do a pattern for the colorblind to see this easier, maybe metal and/or pastel colors to work against the darkness of the model.Thinking of doing an all-in-one base for these guys where theres a gray rock or two, maybe a pipe or something metal and small patch of grass and sand. The eye likes to pick out the similarity of each part under the legs so it'll blend with most board types. Unlike the rest of the army you can KINDA hold the midfield with heavy units ala a full terminator list. Also the one upside of the wraith detachment is you get access to Battle focus on wraiths which makes them actually not THAT slow. What you DO have is a roster that lets you turn that heavy build work horse into a race horse with all the fast smaller units, transports and movement tricks. As I said, if you go wraiths, you are the weakest Eldar, but you do look bloody good doing it.

Very few hordes can get a turn 1 charge, so they'll get massacred on your opponents turn unless you shove them in some kind of transport. If your opponent is semi-competent, they've done some screening to prevent you from doing too much deep-striking. If you put them in reserves, they will 'trickle' in get deployed in inconvenient areas. Hordes being shit isn't just a rule thing, it makes the game feel shit too. I learned this the hard way playing guard. I focused on bringing 20 blobs of guardsmen everywhere, and they all got zoinked immediately. I have a couple left on turn 2. Yea, they are cheap chaff and I understand that, but it's disheartening when several dozen adequately painted minis are zapped from the table because having a 5/6+ save means deathTLDR: Aesthetically and in army-theming, having massive blobs of troops seems awesome. In practice, it's annoying to buy, paint, transport, deploy, remove again and the rules are typically shit.
