Instead of being in the jungle they would be in the frozen norther region and constantly harass and take captives from another tribe to use as sacrifice to stave off a curse put on them.When the tribe got help from the !French empire they slaughtered the snow aztecs which caused the curse to activate turning them into undead who continually come back to life and have to be kept at bay while expiditions are launched into the the ruins of their cities and temples to find a way to defeat them for good.
In my setting the aztecs only exists to have their women conquered by the conquistadors
