Are the quillons of power swords encased by the power field of the blade? If not, I can’t imagine them blocking the cut of another powered blade, which can canonically shear through thick ceramite armoured plates. Are the guards only useful against mundane weapons? If so, you’d think we’d see many more examples in the fluff of duelists getting their fingers lopped off when opponent’s edge slides down their own. If they are made of some sort of super metal you’d think Astartes would make a point of reinforcing their suits with it.

So weapons like power swords, power axes, mauls ect ect ect. Work normally just like a regular sword that was formed out of metal nothing special. The power part of it, is the activation of the disruption field that splits atoms and is what allows it to carve into things easily.BUT this part is my head canon, the activation of that field is on a charge, so like when you swing it you can activate the field but it only lasts for a few seconds which is why they cant just keep it on activated mode all the time. It being AP 3 is meant to be like "Hey thats you activaing it at the right time to breach their armor" where as if its a breaching attack, its meant to be "You activated it at the exact right time to land a critical hit."More refined weapons like paragon blades, and thunder hammers are more refined, and are in the case of hammers, able to be equipped with a more powerful power supply to keep that charge going, or a more sophisticated charge device in the example of a paragon blade. But with out the power field activated its just like a normal sword just being wielded by a fucking mega roid gorilla of a space marine.

Thats what seperates artisan weapons like paragon blades which have more sophisticated/powerful chargers to them, or TH which just have a bigger fucking battery to power the charge, OR in the case of a fist and or claws, the weapons is tied directly to the power pack. I think given how they've ordered turns (End phase resolves ongoing effects, then statuses, then scoring) you get to test to remove statuses right before you roll to clear objectives, which feels a little janky. If "end of turn" in the Command Vox Relay rules means "end of your turn" rather than "end of round, which they renamed to turn this edition for no reason" and you swap Vanguard onto a Line unit with a MOS/Damocles Rhino it swaps back before scoring happens and you get the benefit of both that turn, but if you swap Line onto a Vanguard unit you get the benefit of neither, which also seems extremely jank.

Also with tacs when yo uset them up, you get to fire right away but you snap shot only, if you are dispoilers, you get to charge after the set up, but its a disordered charge. Thing is if you set up with 20 tacticals even snap shotting. 60 shots is gonna fuck up a unit.

They're powerful but they're a real pain to transport even in small squads, or a larger pain in big squads that don't lose to most of their peer elite TEQ squads in an arm-wrestle because hammers strike before fists and if they take down one of the three Saturnine the Conclave lose a huge amount of their damage. They're definitely a peer unit with Justies/Lernaeans/etc, but I'd say it only bumps the WB as a whole up to average.

>>96604642Mechanicum has this free upgrade called Heterodoxist on cybertheurgists (archmagos, magos, and tech priests) (this is on top of their normal faction trait) that let's them choose to take the malefic subtype, take detachments with daemon engines in them, and most importantly gives them access to two cybertheurgies, one of which is aetheric amplification. This allows you to target any squad with the malefic type and apply one of the mech buffs to them (either +1 WS/BS, +1 S/T, or +M/I) for a -1 penalty due to targeting a malefic unit (you can just stick the malefic caster in the squad itself to ignore the no units with same faction casting penalty)
I wonder if they’ll make more combat forces, although it’s probably a miracle they even made the ones they put out now.
