What's the verdict, elegan/tg/entlemen? From what I've heard it's fucking shit and it's making a mockery out of our favorite tone and setting. But that could be wrong.
>>
>>96600413
Where can you even watch it?
Most of the reviews I could find seemed to like it well enough, even if the Nepolean Dynamite guy gets grating, but I would like someone's opinion who isn't already in the hobby space on the film, even someone shitty like Moviebob
>>
>>96600540
>even someone shitty like Moviebob
You really wouldn't, dude is convinced he's the only sane and moral nerd in a sea of Chuds despite being, well, himself. Dude's too close to the subject via moral grandstanding and loathing to offer a more objective viewpoint.
>>
>>96600575
I guess he did get obsessed with trying to make Hopepunk a thing a few years back
>>
>>96600585
I keep hearing about hopepunk but I still don't know what the hell that's supposed to be

Return to reddit.
>>
>>96600594
No one does since it's too vague to be defined by any aesthetic or thematic work, unlike, say Raygun Gothic or Grimdark, which both have very clear aesthetic styles to draw from.
>>
>>96600413
The verdict is that it's too irrelevant to discuss.
>>
>>96600413
>our favorite tone and setting
No one actually likes you people or the shit you never shut up about.
>>

Nigga I've been here since 2009
>>
>>96600801
Idk chieftain, people adulate Grimdark soo much that any slight deviation, even if it's one atom, sends them into a frothing rage.
>>
>>96600909
That's exactly why no one likes them.
>>
>>96600909
>much that any slight deviation, even if it's one atom, sends them into a frothing rage.
You mean not covering your models in brown or grey oil paint so people can't see the bad paint job underneath it?

I've not bothered to see it yet myself, but...

Never mind 40k or GW fans, I'm talking like the actual "28 magazine" types this movie is mostly aimed around, which is probably a group of like 500 people at most who attend events like BOYL, Under the Dice, Necropolis etc

I'm not exactly in that 500, but I am mutuals with some people who probably you would say are, and even they think it's a bit of a hatchet job from what I can tell. Some people posting Stories about "Napoleon Dynamite" asking "is this grimdark?" like that meme with the butterfly
>>
>>96601186
lies and you would know that if you weren’t a pussy.
>>
>>96600909
I understand that you're a Star Wars refugee, but it's your own fault for picking 40k to run to just because it's popular.

>>96601255
I do have to wonder who this documentary is for.
It was created and financed by the guy who made 1490 Doom(they are producers for the film). Still, it has an actor play a sort of audience surrogate who doesn't know anything about Tabletop Wargaming. Hence, it's not for people who already know what Wargaming and specifically Grimdark is.
>>
>>96600413
"Our" setting has become a mockery of its former self, you moron
>>
>>96602197
it's for the producers of the film to piggyback off of Trench Crusade's success.
>>
>>96602355
by making a glorified ad for their game?
>>
>>96602197
Does it focus more on 40k and Blanche generally or is it like hyper-niche and namedropping Miscast, Ramshackle Games and /tg/'s Tanner Simpson?
>>
>>96602377
I think it's pretty GW focused, but I wouldn't know as I've not watched it outside of the trailer.
>>
>>96602368
yes, exactly
>>
>>96601255
>events like BOYL, Under the Dice, Necropolis etc
Son you best take the dame Bring Out Your Lead out of your damn mouth if you're going to be talking idiocy.
BOYL is an event with pedigree and class. The tattoo posers have never seen pewter.

Mormon marketing/pay-for-PR outfit scouting minis as the next D&D-style money extraction point.
>>
>>96602368
"I like Napoleon Dynamite, I'm being told non-GW toy soldiers is what the cool kids do now, 1490 is the game I just heard about."
Shit game btw
>>
>>96600413
Seriously though where can we watch it for free? I'll review it for my fellow /tg/ anons if I can get my hands on a link.
>>
>>96602219
Sure looks grim to me.
>>
https://n3cromancer.blogspot.com/2025/09/reviewing-grim-and-dark.html

Very good review, interesting crux to exactly why the Mormon 1490 Doom guys got fellow Mormon Jon Heder to stumble about interviewing people with no coherent plan. Hmmmmmm.

Meanwhile Mormon and ex-missionary Miniwargamer Dave or whatever his name is pays Wargames Atlantic to make a £40 (like double their normal price) celebrity sprue for Mormons for Trench Crusade
>>
>>96603942
What the fuck is it about goddamn mormons and running weird rackets with miniature tabletop games. There's this, all the shit with Catalyst... It's bizarre.
>>
>>96604041
Probably like those kind of people who can't enjoy anything unless they shove their ideology specifically into it so that it's "moral" now. Or just capitalism bullshit.
>>
>>96603942
huh didn't know Nepolean Dynamite guy was a Mormon, im surprised Brandon Sanderson didn't turn up to give his outsider opinon on Grimdark
>>
>>96603942
kek mormons out-jewing jews.
>>

>capitalism bullshit

You mean communism bullshit.
>>
>>96600413
>What's the verdict

I don't spoil my hobby by watching documentaries about it
>>

Nyayrt but what fucking part of this is communist?
>>
>>96604041
qrd on the catalyst situation with mormons?

RAYGUN GOTHIC IS NOT FUCKING REAL. IT'S JUST PUL SCIENCE FICTION. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN THAT. DON'T YOU DARE MISQUOTE THAT ONE GIBSON LINE DESCRIBING A DESIGN STYLE PRESENT IN THE FIFTIES. PULP SCIENCE FICTION. NAMED FOR THE STORIES AND COMICS PRINTED IN PULP MAGAZINES GOING BACK TO THE TWENTIES. But seriously, "Raygun Gothic" is as bad as just trying to add "punk" to everything. There are already names to describe these things. Don't give space to nonsense rebrands from people who don't know what they're talking about. Same as "Hopepunk". Sounds like Noblebright to me, which is again, already a thing.

I've been to both BOYL and UTDF (multiple times for each even) and it's literally the same people at both events. Obviously BOYL has a "better crowd" of old timers who've got an encyclopedic knowledge of every article published in every issue of white dwarf, Kev Adams shows up, John Blanche shows up, but the big blob of people playing Hellsreach in the centre tent are also going to be playing Mordheim at UTDF. I'll admit that they can be grating with some of the personality stuff, but they play games and they're willing to get on an airplane to show up to shit.
