Two of us split a pizza for dinner and the rest each bring a snack or some drinks for the rest of the night. It's been the ritual for like a decade at this point. Occasionally the snacks are home-made, which is a treat, but usually it'll be cookies or chips or something. It's an evening session so we have dinner, then game. During the game it's just hydration, but we might have a dessert we leave til mid-session if it's a convenient eat (cakes, cookies or a little pudding thingy).

Anyways, I wish people brought those vegetable platter things more often. The current group just brings pizza and peanut M&Ms and pretzel sticks and I don't like eating more than a little of that because of how salty and sugary it is. I want ranch dressing and peanut butter and celery sticks dammit. It's my own fault for not bringing that stuff though so what can you do.

Back when I cared about life I would cook chili or bolognase or stew or something for the group and we would have that at the halfway point of the game. That was cool.

These "what do you eat while gaming" threads always astound me with the amount vitriol they inspire. I just don't understand it. The association between food and gaming has been universal as far as my experience of the hobby and I've never seen anyone react negatively in the way people do here. I don't know if it's some unique form of /tg/ autism, ex-fatties hating current fatties/their old selves or insecure nerds flag-waving about at least not being fat, but it's very odd.
For most people, food is a natural part of socialising whether that's going out for dinner to catch up with old friends, having a picnic at the end of long hike or bringing out some snacks when you invite people over to watch the game. You don't need to be fat to appreciate food.

To actually answer your question OP, I'm in two groups at the moment. For both of them we'll usually break halfway through for a meal which will 50/50 either be something nice and home-cooked or simple takeout depending on how busy the two girls of the group have been.
We'll usually have some snacks out on the table which could be anything from olives and a cheeseboard to a bowl of sour worms. One of the guys on one of the groups always brings some homemade jerky or biltong.

At no point, ever, would ANYONE, EVER, look at those meat sticks and think they're a good idea or worth buying.

The only value they have is the rare chance to say "Hey, you wanna taste this minotaur meat stick?", but even that is completely fucked up by the fact that it's Pork and not Beef and it probably costs thirty times more than just an ordinary slimjim.
