Hey guys, hope you're all doing well. It's time for the september collage anchor posts. I'll try to post one each thread until the deadline. As always I'll check the archive too but submitting your models in reply to these posts is the best way to not be missed. If you submit the models to one of my anchor posts there is no need to repost the submissions, I see them, I promise. Here is the vote for next month's theme.https://strawpoll.com/BDyNzobWkyRVery freeform theme this month, excited to see what you've cooked up.
>>96606391you laid it too thick and fast on the parts of carapace in hurry and it shows, same with knees. Nothing that can't be retouched in the future because you can do better. Lascannon technically has the same issue but it works there as weathering since metallics do be funky like that

>>96606742It'd be so cool if everyone got access to the super mixed squads from current dw. I mean obviously you can now with any marines but as a main part of your force in another codex army
>>96606743This model is so good
>>96606748>>96606737I missed fug
>>96606748I think it's a level of complexity GW doesn't want for their main entry level army. That's part of why space marines are all aspect warrior squads now with names clearly defining loadouts. Deathwatch being the remix expert level space marines variant is perfectly fine.
>>96606745nothing's wrong with themm, honestly if i were ever to expand my 30k iron hands to 40k i think i would build around gravis armour as my army centre
>>96606726please don't send this attentionwhore to wip, thanks
>>96606746They'll just be space marines eventually. They'll remove the primaris keyword. It'll be no different than the jump from beakies to goodwin-style marines.
>>96606745their only fault is that anyone thought they were replacing terminators. Marines have always needed a heavy armor mark with the heresy crowd headcanoning marks 2 and 3 as heavy
>>96606745Some people erroneously believed that they were an attempt to create primaris Terminator armor right up until Terminators made a glorious return this edition. They have never really served the same role though.
>>96606763I wish we had stuck with beakies

>>96606815you still trying with this, mate?
>>96606811I started before you children began using "grog" for all old tabletop players, instead of it only being used for experienced napoleonic wargamers
>>96606758No I agree on all fronts, I just think it'd be fun. I'm sure people wouldn't have an issue with people running dw squads in codex marine armies in friendlies
>>96606827Hakos Baelz will inherit the galaxy
I like how Drukhari lost access to Clowns and Corsairs so they are even lower on datasheets
>>96606830The DW specific mixed armor kill teams cant be run in normal marine armies. The only DW stuff that can be run in regular marine armies is the Deathwatch Veterans which are the old firstborn kit (amazing kit btw) that come in 5 or 10 through agents and don't benefit from the army rule.
>>96606783They should just put them in codex Aeldari, but the problem is they're just too big to squish into one alternative micro faction like Harlequins or Corsairs (Even with all their missing units). They're a subfaction that has subfactions (Kabals, Kults, Kovens) and just throwing them all in the codex to be used in every Eldar detachment with faction keyword "Aeldari" is going to create a nightmare of balance. Every detachment will be an Ynnari detachment. So you have to make them at least three detachments all on their own and limit how much they can be taken outside of those detachments except in the Ynnari detachment. And now you just have two codexes stapled together that you're selling for half the price you were before. So the answer must be to retire the Dark Eldar line entirely right? Well, that's some 55 good modern plastic molds (2-3 molds per vehicle and monster) that they would have to just decommission. That's about a $5.5 million investment that was making some small amount of money that is now making zero. That's a tough decision to sell to their shareholders even if continuing to sell an under supported army is giving them bad publicity.Basically they can't merge Dark Eldar and Eldar together until the shrink the line down more and they can't really cut any more kits immediately.
>>96606837you still have access to reaper's wager, they never put the grotmass in the codex
>>96606813One entry per person but you can enter a squad if you want. One picture
>>96606820The depressed type, but there are exceptions
Loyalist and chaos marines should be in one big codex together
>>96606841I'm aware. I'm saying it would be fun to allow that during your own personal games, not as a blanket thing for tournaments and all that
>>96606855We should have 3 big codexs, imperium, xenos and chaos.
>>96606745>What's wrong with Gravis?the basic design is just a chunkier normal marine with a hood, which doesn't stand out enough on box art. the ones that do stand out do so because their equipment is goofy as fuck. conceptually there's not much benefit from a slightly tankier version of a normal marine when normal marines are supposed to be tanky but aren't, and terminators are also surprisingly flimsy in 10th. there's nothing to work with in the gap between them.I like gravis heads and have used them on my jump pack guys. GW's one colour marketing paint job does the design no favours.
>>96606745They look fat and goofy
>>96606855I had heard many dumb take. This gotta be the dumbest take.
>>96606845they could keep craftworld eldar with their exclusive unit and put darkies, harlies, sairs and eventually dites into a agents-like codex: other eldar
>>96606855no reason for it, this isn't the Horus heresy, there's no overlap of units or cross compatibility
>>96606845Also there is the aspect of GW where unpopular model lines are1. still profitable2. create the ecosystem of niche armies and diversity that attracts people to a hobby that offers a robust diversity of experiences even if not every experience is appealing to one individualPeople think a model line being unpopular means its bad for GW. The truth is that its the opposite. Having a bunch of niche armies to be foils for the popular factions appeals to a massive amount of potential customers. There is no reason to squat dark eldar because they offer something to a certain kind of customer, and all they need to do is get you to buy a single kit to potentially convert you into a REAL customer (20k USD lifetime spent).Everything about GW is about conversion ratio between interested --> bought a kit or two --> became a whale with 20k pile of shame
I wish there was a point in running 10 man devastator squads. I always dig the big units but another 5 dudes with boltguns aren't really worth the points. Though I suppose between the bloated roster and power levels having any semblance of internal balance is a far cry.
>>96606862This unironicallyAnd also rules for units without models for kitbashing/third party sake
>>96606745Unnecessary and ugly.
>>96606855>Loyalist and chaos marines should be in one big codex together
Who does the "up armored space marine" look better.Gravis or centurions?
>>96606758There's nothing complex about squads getting weapon options. Basically every army works like that. Singling space marines out is dumb.
>>96606884With how easy space marines are to kill, running a 10 man squad gives you ablative models to lose before your big guns start dropping.
>>966068624 really>Imperium>Chaos>Alien Empires (tau soup, votann, necrons, eldars, gsc if they split from tyranid)>Whatever catchy names for tyranids, GSC-if-still-tyranid, orks
>>96606763Except all the classic units except terminators and scouts will be gone? How is that the same? Also you people keep saying that as if mk7 hadn't been the face of the faction for 30 years while beakies barely 2 years.
>>96606783We already know what will happen from ValrakCorsair expansion soonDeldar expansion in 11thEventually ExoditesDeldar will have their lost units refreshed and get new ones as well. Mandrakes already got an upgrade in addition to new Archon and Malys. Faction they want to squat wouldn't be getting such upgradesBut Lost and the Damned/Dark Admech may indeed arrive before them in 11th. Since edition will start with Xenos (Orks) as a main threat. Moving to Chaos from Orks and then back to Xenos (Deldar) is an obvious way to keep narrative fresh.
Let me guess, you *need* more?
>>96606899Getting another squad with another 4 weapons would still be more cost effective.
>>96606895Centurions are both hideous and retarded in concept. Gravis looks good when used right (heavy ints) even though 40k isn't really granular enough for it to be necessary gamewise.
>>96606905You do get a discount on the 5 bolter marines though

There is tournament attendance data but that is only a small subsection of the player base and only tells us one Army that each of those players collect.Probably the closest we have to market research data is Auspex Tactics borrowing sales data from some of his sponsors checking how many boxes from each faction were sold in a given period.Dark Eldar were the lowest of the major factions but still higher than almost all the Marines supplements besides Blood Angels if I recall. This survey was like a year ago though so Blood Angels were the new thing and Space Wolves hadn't been updated yet.
>>96606636>>96606659I considered getting it for the lore. But when I compare newer codexes to older, sofcover ones, the newer versions seem to have far less of it, although they do have some 'newer' content advancing the timeline.

This is a problem purely of their making because they neglected the army. They probably were planning to fold them into Eldar with the ynnari stuff but they were even more unpopular and the plan to merge Eldar under ynnari was abandoned.

>>96607289Just because they're the best selling faction in 40k doesn't mean mk7 wasn't offputting & kept a lot of people disinterested in 40k itself. I thought your dumpy little frowny face fucks were ugly as sin compared to better looking power armor designs (eg starcraft, doom, halo) and they straight up kept me out of getting into the game & playing warmahordes instead until they came out with primaris. Now don't get me wrong- I don't think primaris are particularly great looking, since after going through all the 30k stuff there's other armor marks I wildly prefer over them. The thing is primaris just aren't offensively ugly the way mk7 is, and as a result they make game more approachable to anyone who doesn't have a raging nostalgia boner for the desire to continue playing with the toys the grew up with.

Chaos furies are more forgotten than the average deamon model, being undivided daemons (with marked variants).Being bat winged imps with dog heads is cool but you know isn't very greek inspired, they could borrow from another greek monster like the gorgons who were also winged orginally. Since furies are a real world greek monster, but were just winged women to kill oath breakers. They could be Gorgon inspired or lean into being monsters that take away and kill oath breakers of the chaos gods.
>>96607638Dunno I think you shouldn't radically change the look of a faction to try to appeal to people that didn't like it in the first place.

Why are there so many fucking posers who think 40k should have hope and want the setting to stop being grim and dark? By definition, grimness is depressing, harsh, merciless, and darkness is defined by absence of light, or in this case, hope. So 40k is, by definition, a depressing, harsh, brutal, hopeless setting. Why do people want to change that? For years, people have come into this hobby trying to poison it from within - and then they claim to be "true fans." Why aren't they being gatekept? They should fuck off back to star wars.

>>96607730because despite the opening quote, 40k has rarely presented itself as straightforwardly depressing as that, sure there's grimdark left and right, but the vast majority of stories are about honestly well meaning larger than life heroes facing objectively more evil foes and triumphing against the odds.it's not even a change that happened with the boost in popularity after primaris, it was all already in motion and carried out pretty much the same since 2nd edition, with a moment of grimdarker artworks (but not really stories) in 3rd; with the main difference being that since 7th we have had some major fluff developments, where we didn't use to have those.the setting may be doomed if we look at the metaphysics of the odds as presented at face value on a macro scale, but on a moment by moment and zone by zone view, it's not as downhill as that, especially because normal people are reassured by the meta knowledge that the setting and characters have plot armor.when I see people whining about grimdark it's not about, say, the ugly and depressing decline of civilizations or the body horror of servitors, it's mostly autists way too involved into their choice of faction and power levels who feel personally insulted or threatened when they aren't the best at any given point

>>96608184The issue is that with AP 0 Storm Bolters, Terminators will have a hard time doing any meaningful shooting into things that aren’t infantry. Maybe attach a Librarian to give sustained hits so you can brute force the odds, but Terminator shooting is the reason why everyone wants a buff for them, as their melee is fine, even powerful with the Assault Terminators.

>>96607914seems like a great way to boost their popularity then by giving them jagathai on a leash
>>96608424it should be like that one fan continuation of 40k where jaghatai has been cut up into a dozen pieces with his body parts held as trophies by powerful archons because charging into enemy territory with no support is the sort of thing that should get you properly fucked up
>>96608349The difference between 30k & 40k is in 30k you have weapons that straight up can't wound vehicles so you need genuinely dedicated anti tank (lascannons, powerfist, etc.) Alternatively in 40k all melee can wound vehicles on 6s, so you might as well take cheaper more anti infantry centric options like Bladeguard since wounding on a 6 isn't that off from wounding from a 5 the way terminator powerfists do into vehicles, so you might as well take the cheaper of the two with a few more attacks. They just shat the bed really hard on 'anti vehicle' melee options in 10th for marines- unless you've got tricks to boost your strength or hit averages like Blood Angels or CSM, you're better off not bothering with premier anti vehicle infantry guys like terminators.
>>96608137Pretty sure Gav is the guy who invented the Ynnead shit to begin with, in the 3rd edition codex. So no, not based Gav.
>>96608431im still more keen to the coven idea since primarch flesh would be put to better use even a component of stronger abominations or simillar hobby projects

>>96608453I think they were doing that as well as he was still alive because of advanced xeno tech, then vulkan had to use necron tech to patch him together if I remember right
>>96608442>wounding on a 6 isn't that off from wounding from a 5It's a 50% increase.
>>96608349The problem is overkill. You don’t need a Terminator Squad to deal with regular infantry, when a squad of Intercessors can do just fine for less than half the points. Elite Infantry tend to also have high enough toughness and good enough armor saves where the shooting phase feels like a formality. The reason why Assault Terminators are considered the better of the two is that they lean into the strengths of the Terminator at the expense of the lack luster shooting, being big chunky dudes with good melee profiles.
>>96608454They wanted to copy fury of the legion but fucked up.
>>96608467>It's a 50% increase
>>96608469So a good points discount would make them mote atractive? I'm just more familiar with 30k's stat breakpoints. They make a lot more sense to me than 40k's since 8th.
>>96608480Rolling a 6 is 17% success. A 5+ is 33%. That's literally double the odds.
>>96608454They need to give storm bolters a better statline
>>96608258>>96608280Wound and toughness creep isn't enough for marines, you need a huge damage buff to your baseline weapons too? Shut the fuck up.
>>96608492Yeah, but going from a 1 in 6 to a 2 in 6 really isn't a statistically significant increase, especially when you take into account the fact that melee units like jump pack intercessors or bladeguard have more attacks as well as other tricks to do damage
>>96608483Nah, people wouldn’t mind paying more if their shooting was better.
if im running space marines should i always go jump pack intercessors over regular intersessors? ik an argument can be made for assault but.......
>>96608483A points discount wouldn't fix the issue either I think since 'make thing cheaper' doesn't change the fact that terminators are really lackluster into tanks- they need a rule to buff them whenever they fight large targets to justify their existence since all they really do is overkill infantry.

>>96608563They're two different units with 2 different functions. Regular intercessors are something you use to sticky cap objectives and hold your backline points. Assault intercessors are objective contesters/chaff clearers.
>>96608531Anon it's double the chance. Unless those other units have twice the attacks of a powerfist they don't do more damage than powerfists. That's assuming they even have D2.
>>96608563“Optimal” lists usually bring one squad of each.
>>96608563>should i always go jump pack intercessors over regular intersessors? They do different jobs, but are both very good. I would need to know more about your army to give further advice between the two units.
>>96608619Bladeguard are (after a nerf btw) the same cost as terminators and have 10 extra attacks and a hit reroll with the same damage and ap. I don't even have to do the math to tell you that makes up for wounding on 6s instead of 5s against big targets, so when you take into account that they just clear chaff better by default they're always going to be the better option, doubly so when you take into account that they're faster and have more oc/bodies.>That's assuming they even have D2.Why even refute me if you don't know jack shit about these profiles and are just talking out your ass?

>>96608726And to make matters worse, you have Oath Of Moment giving a +1 to wound, which helps terminators a little bit sure, but for things that don't wound infantry on 2s already like Bladeguard or Jump Packs it's a MASSIVE all around buff to them compared to terminators, making termies feel that much shittier unless they have some specific boost like Deathwing Knights (who don't have to contend with a +1 to wound and have anti vehicle/monster) or (maybe) Darnath.
>>96608726termies reroll hits vs oath target. rerolling 1s is basically nothing, it just feels good.24 attacks vs 15 attacks that hit twice as often.but you can take 2x3 BGV
