>he plays games made after the invention of paper>he calls them """traditional"""
>>96610395I love this game. Bought a replica set off etsy where the girl actually did the inlays with lapis and red stone. It's a legitimately nice table game and it even got me laid when I brought it to a bar once.
>>96610395>he calls them """traditional"""I don't.
Bought picrel many years ago, I’ve played it more than you would expect. It’s not made of historic materials but the rules are (supposedly) a good reconstruction based on what we know. For all the other basement dwelling nerd shit I own this one is one of the more embarrassing to me, it’s truly an intersection of my autistic fixations on board games and ancient material culture
>>96610395Central rose square is OP.
>>96610525isn't it basically just backgammon?
>>96610395Paper was invented at the dawn of time...
>>96611196>Matter and anti-matter collides>Confetti
>>96611021No they're very different. They're both two player race games with dice but that's where the similarities stop.Backgammon>can have multiple pawns of same colour on same space>space blocked if opponent has multiple pawns on it>space never blocked by own pawns>capture can be made on any space>all pawns can get to any space closer to the end>all pawns start on the track at multiple places along the track; there are table games where the pawns do start off the track, but they're not backgammon>captured pawns must be returned before moving any other pawn, lose turn if can't return captured pawnIn this *reconstruction* all due respect to Irving who is one of the coolest fucking people on the planet and this reconstruction might be how it was played somewhere, sometime in antiquity>one pawn per space>spaces never blocked by opponent's pawns>spaces always blocked by own pawns>pawns can only reach 14 out of 20 spaces>all pawns start off the track>captures can only be made on the middle 8 spaces>can return a captured piece or move a piece on the board
>>96610395I don't think anyone outside the 'chan calls them "traditional games", I think they just called it that instead of "tabletop" in case there's some game that almost fits but isn't tabletop (I think LARP can be /tg/?).
