Back when the chaos codex for 9th was coming out there was rumours that GW was making a deal with Covercorp to do some sponsored streams to promote chaos, which coincided with one of their new EN talents who in their lore is the chaos manifest with a dice theme.
Given the rumours of Lorgar coming back and Warhammer becoming more popular in that space there's a possibility that British autism and Nippon autism have finally sorted themselves out with a deal.

>What makes a Warhammer 40k fanart piece a good fanart piece to you?
Honestly there are a lot of factors to take into but a lot of it goes down to personal opinion.

For me. I think the best fanarts show a genuine care for the setting while at the same time want to entertain the viewer.
Also when the visual quality of the art is good that is always a nice bonus.

Personally I think one "sector" of 40k fanart that is seldom explored is mimicking the ForgeWorld Imperial Armour model photographs.
Pic related is a fanart piece.
I think the reason is because not everyone can afford a large studio room to make the dioramas to make the ForgeWorld photoshopped images.

Painted my first model ever! Shitty picture because I live in a shithole.
I know he has two backpacks when he shouldn't... I fucked up while building and that's why he got to be the first one painted. Other than that, how's it looking for a first-timer? Most of the advice I see is for bigger models like space marines, I kind of wish I hadn't started off with guard.

How do I beat Drukhari as Black Templars? My army is mostly melee and they can blow up my anti tank rather easily. It’s pretty common for them to have around 14 dark lances. They get to decide when and where assault occur because they’re so fast. I do have some movement tricks in Companions of Vehemence but Incubi with dev wounds and lance are brutal. Granted, it’s rare to come up against them at all but they’re pretty strong. They’re easy to kill if you manage to mess up their plans, take out the raider before they can disembark. My blood angels have a much easier time because they’re much better at engaging with them but my foot slogging melee has trouble.

This is my Tau list for my first 1000pt game I'm playing this weekend, any recommendations on where I should go from here? I'm not sure if I should get a riptide or some broadsides next. I feel like it's maybe focused too much on anti-infantry firepower so I'm also thinking about getting a unit of fireknife suits for anti-elite shooting but that feels like it might be too many crisis suits. Also considering a unit of kroot carnivores for objective grabbing. Open to any suggestions

Anon should have said low influence, not low rank. An inquisitor's rank over all is often technically a technicality, and their influence is limited by their ability to intimidate, schmooze, have leverage etc the different Imperial factions in their area. Some Inquisitors barely can get any resources from their area of operations, others declare themselves Lord Inquisitor of entire sectors. There is a difference in the influence of Inquisitors.
>>
>>96611918
no. this shit sucked lol
>>
>>96612282
Case by case basis. Some work alone, some keep a small highly skilled crew around, some have a strike team or personal army, some requisition IG and PDF regiments.

So yeah you could have a bunch of penal legion tier branded chaff, or a team of elite stormtroopers.
>>
>>96612285
Even the lowest influence, shittiest inquisitor in the galaxy would never be used as canon fodder.
An acolyte, or even better a member of inquisitorial retinue absolutely would be.

Sauce/more?
>>
>>96611918
It has some issues but people get a bit dramatic about it. It's really not that bad, and as others have said it's a good starting point for further refinements in 11th. I would be very surprised if they don't make changes regarding psychic but it probably won't be a full return to how it used to be due to the fact many armies have little to no interaction with the mechanic. I could also see a return to wargear points for vehicles but I doubt they'll do it for infantry. It's possible they just continue the current strategy of splitting vehicles into multiple datasheets instead of adding points costs for options.
>>
Where do Firewarriors rank against Imperium troops anyways? Obviously they're better than Guardsman, but are they equivalent to Tempestus Scions?

Tau are sorta mediocre guardsmen carried hard by there gear, which gives them a big boost, but still lesser than scions and Kasrkin, though that could just because of the special weapons the humans get. A pulse rifle is much better than a hotshot lasgun in like 85% of scenarios. Id say there roughly equivalent to Ranger Skiitari

I know that Firewarriors aren't as biologically strong as humans but they're still trained from birth, as far as training goes they get as much as any human does, the only downside is they don't get as much accumulated experience since they only live to be like 40 and the ones that survive to get promotions tend to pilot battlesuits.

I guess I just don't really get the idea that the Tau are bad soldiers.

Oh no I never meant to say Tau were bad soldiers, they are normal good soldiers, just like guardsmen. You have to remember that most guardsmen (and all of GWs favorites, Krieg, cadia, Catachans etc.) are also all trained from birth. I would hazard though that a Firewarriors training is a little more practical and less insane then most guardsmen. The age hurts them though, a Guardsmen has a (small) chance of living long enough to become a veteran whos a good shot, which is reflected in several of the datacards, especially in older editions, whereas BS 3+ is pretty rare in tau outside of commanders

First of all, every single source about T'au physiology said that T'au strength and pain tolerance levels are nearly identical to humans/average guardsmen.
Secondly, a T'au Shas'ui is said to be equal to a marine captain in skill and talent. A Ui is a fire warrior with four years of experience.
T'au Pathfinder teams are known to engage marines and inflict heavy losses on them if not defeat them.

Get strike teams or kroot for more infantry when you play bigger games because your going to need guys to sit back ontop of objectives all game, also broadside suits would be my go to for fuck you anti-tank if you find you need to deal with main battle tanks more. But your sunforges are anti-tank units and the ghostkeel has a S12 melta gun which should be sufficient for 1K points

I think your list is overeliant on battlesuits so you might have trouble with scoring on objectives and plasma/autocannon weapons are going to be a problem if your opponent can somehow take them en masse but since its 1K it shouldn't be possible to take that many to where your fucked.

Cadians are, and they're the sort of 'default' Guardsman regiment that's most typically thought of, but they're definitely not the most common. Your average Guardsman regiment is going to be a hiver regiment, composed of people that, while certainly grew up having a rough life that made them 'hard', they're not inherently more disciplined either. Hence the need for Commisars to provide 'encouragement'.

Really though, the biggest advantage Fire Warrior training has over Guardsman training isn't 'grittiness' or how much of a badass one is over the other, but as the other anon mentioned, simple practicality. A Kriegsman is a cold, hard soldier...who practices World War 1 style trench warfare. Regardless of how much of a badass he is, that is sa horribly inefficient way to fight. By contrast, a Fire Warrior practices much more modern techniques in combat.

This can give the impression that Fire Warriors are only good because of their equipment, but the truth is more along the lines of them training in what they're good at. What this essentially means is that on the tabletop, what makes a Fire Warrior's training good won't be represented in their stats, but rather in how their player uses them.
>>
>>96612634
nta but cadians and krieg are literally trained from birth and catachan is a violent death world and only the strong survive to adulthood so they're hardened killers before they even join the guard.

>Hotshot lasguns and imperial plasma guns are superior to pulse rifles because tau prioritize their plasma equipment being safe to handle over deadly so the firepower they output is much weaker than imperial plasma but still stronger than a boltgun.
Hotshot lasguns don't melt through power armor. new marks of pulse carbines do.

Comparing plasma guns to pulse rifles is retarded since plasma guns are used against heavy armoured targets and can fire only a dozen or fewer shots before going critical or needing hours to reload.

The plasma guns equivalents on the T'au side are the plasma rifles wielded by the T'au suits, which easily tear through marines and have the advantage of continious fire with no fear of expolding.

Pulse rifles are literally weaker plasma guns that don't produce as much of a punch but they don't fucking explode. Also are you dumb? The entire point of hotshot lasguns is that they are issued to scions because they CAN shoot through power armor. But unlike pulse rifles they're difficult to assemble and require and entire external power pack. And the tau mounting even stronger plasma guns on crsisis suits doesn't mean that pulse rifles aren't equivalent to imperial plasma weapons because guess what dipshit? Pulse rifles fire plasma.

Also FYI imperial plasma has been given like 6 different ways in which it works in the books so I would take alot of that with a grain of salt about it needing entire hours to reload after just 12 shots.
>>

Comparing Pulse Rifles to Plasma guns is retarded. Pulse Rifles are scaled to eliminate infantry. But given now that they can punch through power armor It's safe to say they are superior.

>The entire point of hotshot lasguns is that they are issued to scions because they CAN shoot through power armor.

> And the tau mounting even stronger plasma guns on crsisis suits doesn't mean that pulse rifles aren't equivalent to imperial plasma weapons because guess what dipshit?

No, they don't. It takes 50 lasguns firing at a single spot at the same time to melt through the power layers of power armour.

The novel expands on this bit of lore:

>With his battlesuit teams leaping out from graceful Manta missile destroyers and his ground forces transported en masse by the planet’s magnorail networks, O’Shovah was able to react to the vertical incursions of the Space Marines with impressive speed. Targeting data acquired on the far side of the Damocles Gulf had shown the Imperial shock troops to be extremely heavily armoured, and so Farsight had taken the precaution of having every Crisis suit under his command equipped with dual plasma rifles.

>It proved to be the right decision. The mass-reactive shells fired by the Space Marine squads deploying from each insertion pod were fierce indeed, but few penetrated the armoured shells of the battlesuits that arced down out of the skies. Under Farsight’s strict instruction, wherever one Crisis battlesuit was hit it would peel back to be replaced by a fully operational replacement. Wave by wave, the Crisis Teams descended, their numbers such that, from a distance, they looked like a Vior’lan seedstorm floating to earth. Hundreds of plasma rifles spat bursts of burning fire down into the ranks of the Space Marines, melting through ceramite and searing through flesh to scorch the ground beneath. The Imperial warriors were not so much shot as cored, the sizzling holes in their torsos exposing innards to the air.

Let me grab more quotes from the supplement and novel.

Anon go re-read my fucking posts I'm literally telling you that Tau plasma rifles are weaker than imperial plasma rifles on a shot by shot basis because they trade the firepower for safety measures and ease of production which is why tau are able to field them for all their infantry but imperial plasma weapons are relegated to special anti-armor roles. NTA but here's how it actually goes:
>Tau plasma rifles
Can pierce Space Marine armor but usually need more than one shot, not something that will one-hit kill them like a railgun but not also not something they can mostly wade through without concern like a lasgun

>Pulse blaster plasma and Railguns and Ion weapons and Fusion weapons
Will probably take out the Space Marine in one hit with good shot placement, although for Pulse blasters you need to be in close quarters range for that to happen

Tau Pulse rifles are like Space Marine bolters, bolters are not actually that great at getting through Space Marine armor, but they will get the job done if you lay on enough firepower. But, if you know that you're going to be going up against Space Marines, you'll usually opt to bring something heavier (even Space Marines would opt for that).

Serious question, why did Craftworld Elder get so much love recently?
Pretty much their entire range with the exception of kharandras, vypers and the fire prism/wave serpent has been redone recently. They added a new phoenix lord in addition to the others.
Meanwhile Drukhari got a new archon, and a special character, they got mandrakes a little while ago but they lost Urien, grotesques, beasts, and court. Why does one get so much favorable treatment and the other barely anything? Why are drukhari so consistently shafted?

GW can afford to update everyone now so they do. Eldar were due update for ages and always sold nicely anyway so they were updated. Deldar didn't get shafted, it's just resin getting rid off like it happens to everyone. All slots for refreshes were taken already for this edition so there was no room for Deldar this time. Next edition they will get their refresh wave alongside those who didn't this edition. Like Grey Knights and Catachans

Bean counters at GW are oblvious to the mountain of potential (read money) a dark eldar dark romance book would generation, otherwise they'd be first in line for the refresh and greatly expanded. Dark Eldar could be as proftiable to female audiances as space marines are to male ones. GW needs to show that giant titillating statues of gorgeous women are a not uncommon site across the imperium more. Like that scene in blae runner 2049 with those two statues of women sucking an invisible dildo between them.
>>
>>96613317
It was a Pathfinder team that was wrecking heretic kill teams.

A Nemesis Claw Kill Team was sent in to hunt down the Pathfinder team. The Nemesis Claw paid a steep price to defeat the Pathfinders. They used the captured Pathfinders as morale breaking tool by torturing them in front of the Fire Caste armies.

They did the exact same tactic in Cadia too.

I imagine the galaxy the Tyranids orignated from looked like this. (if you have the view they were intergalatic xenos they evolved somewhere and not a bioweapon that were created or Malal daemons when forced into physcial space after being exiled from the Warp by the 4).
Like the galaxy itself is similar to the alien chestburster symbol that GW has taken for tyranids. Just a giant version of a tyranid creature sitting in the void of space

You'd need stellar quantities of it, the volume of these would have to be significant relative to the mass of the star; it's too big to fit in an orbital.

>>96613668
Fair enough. It's still dumb. The Death Star could only kill a planet and it was the size of a small moon and also had space magic on its side; any space magic that Erebus would employ to metaphysically murder the sun wouldn't work anyway because in the same book warpstuff isn't affected by science bullets.

>>

I would agree with this if it was mentioned in the chapter. There's no mention of any esoteric ritual or malefic blessing of the station guns in order to do that, unless we take this following passage to mean that the metaphysical planetary alignment mercury in retrograde shit somehow supernaturally charges the weapons. But the weapons themselves are still described in mundane terms in the last couple of sentences, which puts doubt on that interpretation. If that's what Dan meant, he wrote it very, very clumsily.

>Do you know how small a small city is compared to a star? It's like a microbe shooting a person.
yea, its still "big" to us. I don't expect sci fi to have the size conceptualization of an astrophysicist. The Neutron Initiator part of a nuclear bomb trigger is tiny in comparison to the explosion it causes. When it comes to highly compressed ongoing reactions a chain reaction of some made up far future science could conceivably spread throughout the entire star.

Also I didn't read the story so I don't know how the star is described but there are some very small stars out there, a brown dwarf is the same size as Jupiter. Neutron stars are even smaller (high mass, small physical size). If it's a Neutron Star you could even theoretically cause it to exceed its Chandrasekhar limit by yeeting a planet into it.

its simple, perfectly scientific. It can run the entire vehicle by putting a subway sub into the incinerator and takes any fuel conceivable including dead bodies. it does that because it says so, we can observe it happening therefore it happens. Perfectly scientific. We don't need to know how it happens to know it does.

I definitely thought Monet when I saw it, they just looked so much like hobbits I couldn't think of anything else they could be. If it's supposed to be the primarchs young I suppose this is an alternate timeline where the chaos gods didn't kidnap them and have them grow up all fucked up and traumatized.

Leman Russes are stupid, but they are simple mistakes made by someone who simply doesn’t know much about tanks which are extremely complicated pieces of machinery. HOWEVER it should be pretty obvious to anyone that causing a sun to go supernova would be impossible using a gun (even with big bullets) which is why it’s funny to rag on a professional writer for thinking that’s how it works.

Heroic scale was done, they made everything you could want in heroic scale pretty much. I respect you prefer that style, but its literally still there waiting for you if you want it.

Personally, the new scale and sculpts are superior in general. I say in general because both old and new ranges have amazing models and total stinkers.
>>
>>96614058
That's your very subjective opinion.
Personally I liked when everything was heroic scale because things weren't always accurate in height, but it was consistent and we weren't dealing with constant scale creep every other kit release.

Yeah I know recasters exist, I picked up some of the old mk3 marines, but fuck do resin casts if plastic kits suck to clean up and build.
NiB is pretty market dependant, you can't find any of the old cadians in my region anymore because a lot of players didn't like the new sculpts and bought entire stocks worth before they were discontinued.
>>
>>96614053
Heroic Scale existed due to limitations of techniques, not really what the artists wanted over true scale or higher fidelity models. You might prefer it, but it wasn't because it made better game pieces or it was a stylistic choice. It was because sculpting was harder than it is now with digital tools and more advanced injection mold techniques.

"Heroic scale" isn't actually a scale. It's just a made up term to describe the fact that the heads/hands/weapons are scaled up larger than they would be realistically to allow for more detail/visibility. All modern moderns are still "heroic scale" even though they're bigger.

>it can heroically intervene onto the point and put some hurt in
Hey! I'm noob, could you please explain me more on this tactical move?

Here's how i understand it:
- Opponent can charge his slaanesh seekers after charging it
- That guy could charge that opponent's unit immediately after it charges, by using the Heroic Intervention
- But charge via Heroic Intervention doesn't give Fight First. This means, that Bloodthrister can fight only after opponent finishes attacks (if he survives).
- So it means, that opponent will kill not only Seekers, but also that guy's Bloodthirster.
Is that correct?
I mean, to me it looks, like Bloodthirster can't just hit the opponent, he needs to survive for that.
