Is it possible to run a game that isn't Dungeons and Dragons without having to deal with online subhumans?
>>96612465Sure. But the answer depends on what you mean. For example, do you mean "all people online are subhuman?"Not all online players are awful, but it can be hard to sift through the trash players and find good, reliable people. The reason for that being that people like that are more likely to already be in games with people that they've found are also good. If you're looking for offline play, IRL play, you're probably best off going to an LGS in an actually well-populated area. Big store, game variety, maybe you'll find people who play something else for a change.
The real trick is to start a 5e game, and then get your players to swap to a new system with you.
>>96612465yeah, you've just got to start with total newbies with no preformed opinions (so nobody who knows teehee bard fuck dragon or watched anything from critical role) that you can mould into your ideal players
>>96612465To be fair pre-5e. Most people into tabletop were more willing to try new systems hints why Pathfinder got big. (Though to be fair it was just 3.5 with a few changes.) However today 4 out of 5 people are a tourist who just want to do something they saw on critical role and will last at most 5 sessions before getting bored unless you make that one the main character. Also the real gamer went underground. So unless you let into the club. You going to have to deal with the subhumans till you are scouted by real gamers.
>>96612491>"The real trick is to advertise in a way that is 100% going to get you shitty players, then try in vain to fix them by presenting them with a good game instead."I think I'd rather just start out with people who are interested in a good game from the start, rather than ones who show themselves as not worth the effort by being fans of garbage.
>>96612465I play different systems with my friend all the time.
>>96612465I played different system with my friends and they liked at least two of them, so we had two full campaigns. My friends also tried to GM themselves. However, we have never played D&D together. Maybe I wll run D&D 5e, but not for my friends and as a paid DM.
>>96612581Good god, you type like an insufferable, little faggot.
>>96612465just enter my magical realm bro
>>96612465Don't you have a group? Just run whatever you like.Over the past 2 years I've ran Blades in the dark, Cities without limit, Shadow of the demon lord, Vaesen, the Alien RPG, heavily modified Marvel Supers and pathfinder 2e. I've also been a player in 3 other systems, one of which was 5e, but I'm pseuod-foreverGM as you can tell. I don't have 1 single group, but around 13 friends and family members who like ttrpgs, and I just let them know whenever I want to run something and I can easily gather 4-5 people for any given day.I did the whole online play thing many years ago, and I met some very cool people - mainly through /tg/ gamefinder threads - but it's generally not worth the hassle.
>>96612465Why did they shill for TFA?
>>96612465Not running D&D will at least double the amount of non-garbage players you get, but since you're playing online this means you'll only go from 99% garbage players to 98% garbage players.
>>96612465if you're not blessed with a loyal group of nerd friends to play with IRL then the only option is to play soloonline is irremediably shit in every waysolo is the most fun I've had with tabletop in years which says a lot about how shit online groups are
>>96612465I never played Dungeons and Dragons actually. And while I would like to play in a setting, the system itself doesn't interest me at all.I wish I could play online, but I live in inconvenient location and are antisocial hikke to boot. That's suffering.
>>96612465Yeah.
>>96612465Yes but you have to have friends for that.
Run a game that isn't D&D, simple.
>>96612491What an incredibly stupid post.
>>96613494That was a decade ago, move on.
>>96614094Solo is a cope for people who are desperate to identify as tabletop games, rolling dice by yourself is just sad.
>>96614187>Nuuuu, you have to include me in your games or else it's doesn't countI play solo and group games and there's shit you can do in group games you can't do in solo and shit you can do in solo games that you can't do in group.Try being a little less 'Mom said you have to let me play too' and maybe people will take you seriously though.
>>96614187>identify as tabletop gamesWhy do people give me the most retarded waste of bandwidth replies every time? What the fuck does this stupid shit even mean?
>>96614187>rolling dice by yourself is just sadWhy? Do you never play video games alone, or watch movies alone, or read alone? If it's a fun activity, go have fun, you don't always need other people. Sure, it's better with other people, but you should be comfortable doing things alone to entertain yourself.
>>96614589Videogames, movies and books provide content prepared for you already.Whereas with solo gayming, you have to wank yourself all by your lonesome. At this point talking to AI is more healthy than that and provides more randomness.
Yes.Get a real-life D&D group together.Play some D&D.Say there's another system you want to try.Run it.Or just put up an ad at the FLGS. I've seen ones for a GURPS game which I almost joined but didn't have the time to swing it. It's not hard, if you don't live in the boonies.
>>96613465Found the Tourist.
>>96615608>Get a real-life D&D group together.>Play some D&D.That's a good way to get trannies and drama kweenz.>just put up an ad at the FLGSWhere are those mythical LGS that have survived Cuckvid-19?
>>96612465I don't know what do you mean by online subhumansbut if you mean to play offlineyes, it is possible>be me>haven't played any ttrpgs since middle school>get the itch>on top of that get interested in a dying game [almost] no one is playing>get the core set>call-out for people who are willing to try out a oneshot for free in local online ttrpg/boardgame communities>do a couple of oneshots for different groups>got together enough players willing to continue a small campaignwe are all going to make it bros
>>96612465Part of the problem is people can play a bad game of D&D and go >Well it's probably the players, not the system since D&D is so popularBut if you play a niche game and it sucks, there's a high chance of them just assuming the system sucks.Only way I've played long terms games is by having a successful D&D group then trying something else after
>>96614650>He thinks AI are as good at random as someone who has spent a few hours training their schizo-muscles.Ah, I see the problem. You're retarded.Carry on.
>>96612465it's barely even possible to run a game that *is* Dungeons and Dragons without online subhumans.
>>96615809>made up story by a tranny
>>96612465Yes, but it requires you to have real friends.
>>96616607what exactly raises your doubts about my story anon?it's real and I'm certainly not a trannythe only thing that is omitted is that I started doing oneshots based on the free quickstart because I wanted to for the paper books to arrive before I read through the entire rules
>>96616182No, I think that living in your own adventures is as gay as wanking instead of the real thing. It will never feel as the real adventure because you control everything, dice nonwithstanding. Outside interference makes it a real thing.
>>96613401Yeah, me too, OPs problem is really that he doesn't have friends to play with.
>>96612465Just play single player JRPGs. You're not looking for social activity, you just want bots to move around.
>>96617170I believe you but you're definitely lucky or you live in a place where there's a decent scene.Something these retarded threads do not understand is that sometimes you're stuck in a place where there's 0 tabletop scene and when the scene is thin people will almost inevitably play online, even if they're close enough locally, because it's more convenient.Nobody wants to admit that playing tabletop in-presence is becoming a thing of the past. Tabletop in general is swtching to some sort of chatroom roleplay thing where you just act out your fursona or something
>>96616752>Yes, but it requires you to have real friends.this is also bullshit because you can easily have friends but not necessarily they give a shit about tabletop RPGsI was in several groups of friends and exactly 2 people among them were nerds who were interested in tabletop. the others were too normie to give a shit
>>96612465Have you considered playing with offline subhumans for a change?
>>96618213Sadly nowadays you'll get more dice rolling action on F-list then anywhere else, and worst that's as much time and energy they have to play if at all.
>hey anon can you dm for us>ok, this is the system we're playingworks for me every time.
>>96618213I don't think I'm lucky but I do have to make a remark that I do live in a 1M city and I poses the baseline communication skills and haven't done anything to alienate and make enemies of local tg community [well... not most of it]>stuck in a place where there's 0 tabletop sceneI can understand that>Nobody wants to admit that playing tabletop in-presence is becoming a thing of the pastI'm sorry anon, can we get one thing straight, are you by any chance American?
>>96621313The question you should be asking is which region of America are they. It's a whole lot easier than finding a tabletop scene in the North and the Northwest than it is in the south, besides California maybe but I don't live anywhere near the shit Coast. You're more likely to be "burned at the stake" for wanting to play a board game more complicated than Monopoly let alone bring up anything that has to deal with magic or fantasy less they start lecturing you on Harry Potter and pokémon being the work of the devil.
>>96612465yeah.
>>96614255there's definitely one thing you can't do in a solo game lol
>>96621313US is the only country that matters stay furious and irrelevant lol
>>96621313obsessed obsolete yuropoor
