Whats up with TOW having so many dwarf players? Even my local has 3/4 Dwarfs.

One of the reasons I am not getting into them cause there are too many dwarf players.
>>
>>96621968
I mean dwarves are kind of a constant in fantasy. Plus its an aesthetic even the most unkempt obese neckbeard can percieve as achievable natty.

and a combination of The Hobbit, Diggy Diggy Hole and Windrose only made them worse.

>>
>>96621968
Dwarf player here.
It's because dwarfs are the best!

Actually I don't play TOW so I can only guess.
I'm assuming it's a combination of lore and popularity outside the game, a relatively easy approach to game mechanics, and ease of getting good looking models both GW and 3rd party.
>>
>>96622044
Diggy Diggy Hole is from like 2014 oji san.
>>
>>96622047
I got the Bugman mini from WHW and was going to get into them and truth be told, have half a mind to too if not for the fact that everyone in my local is more or less Dwarf.

I didn't even know the game had "editions" that would change.
I just thought "this is warhammer, these are its rules".

>>
>>96622047
We have 2 here as well as a chaos dwarf player.

I haven't paid attention for a while. Do we know what's next for TOW? Do we have leaks? Maybe more AJs?
>>
>>96622047
I think them being the second released forces of fantasy army somewhat increased their popularity somewhat. People who wanted gunlines went with them instead of waiting for empire.
>>
>>96622311
They'll release narrative focused arcane journals. The first one will be called Settra's fury. It'll bring army of infamies for Tomb kings, dwarf (slayer cult) and empire (borde princes).
>>
>>96622311
Next is some Tomb King models and the war in the Border Princes.
Not heard any leaks recently.
>>
>>96622311
outside of the upcoming TK AJ we don't really know anything, but probably more AJs focused on certain conflicts like the Orc Waggh in Brettonia or more Beastmen/morghur related stuff in next year, with Kislev and more WoC coming later

The guy who did all the undead stuff for AoS confirmed he moved over to TOW this year and after the 1.5 and faq's making Vampire Counts waacfag bait the assumption is the next WHFB army to get the love will be bringing back Vampire Counts. Dark Elves will be announced any day now. Any day now..
>>
>>96621968
Dwarf models are typically more expensive (or easily modified into more expensive models) compared to most other factions. So they're one of the cheapest armies to build especially with their battalion box which can be >1000 pts worth of models

>>96621968
I got into OW primarily because I wanted to play fantasy Dwarfs, rather than the other way around.
>If find humans and elves to be a bit bland (personally, not insulting anyone)
>Them being patently ridiculous in terms of aesthetics, culture, and worldview while taking themselves extremely seriously with the muscle to back it up is funny and endearing to me
>I find them to be the most relatable, in terms of simply wanting to be left alone to craft shit
>Them being one of the least random, most efficient and straightforward, but with options to run weird lists (like figuring out how to make gyros and miners work, anvil of doom + Bugman cart shenanigans to produce fast Dwarfs, etc.) appeals to my johnny/spike tendencies
If I ever do a second army I will probably go for goblin/trolls or ogres for similar reasons.
>>
Latest Rumours collected:
>Unique daemons coming only useable in HH and TOW
>Ogre Kingdoms and Vampire Counts leaving Legends next year
>Skaven and Lizardmen remaining Legends'ed forever, those are AoS lines now
>New Chaos army in the works but two years out on the schedule
>Dwarves, Empire and High Elves all getting one new unit and hero
>Some existing heros getting new sculpts as random refreshes showing up on Warhammer store for preorder over the next year

Which do you think has weight beyond generic cope?
>>
>>96625036
Probably Vampire Counts leaving Legends sounds the most unlikely, followed by Dwarfs, Empire and HE getting new character options, all three have a rather robust list for those already
>>
I'm pointing at the stands like babe ruth with my prediction:
>Can't use Lizardmen as they are locked to AoS
>Need a Mezoamerican line for Lustria
>They already brought Amazons back for Blood Bowl
>They were first introduced in Mordheim as Norscan Valkyries that fled their failing Lustria Colony and found an abandoned Lizardmen Ruin with some tech they figured out the use off including spawning pools to make new generations of warriors.
>Allows them to reuse ideas and aesthetics along with milking Mordheim nostalgia and like Cathay sell a new army.

Ids habbeding
>>
>>96625036

Depends on point value and the rest of your army.
IMO blunderbusses are better but the bonus for firing a bunch of them is not going to come into play.
In the long run, Fireglaives are also gonna suffer way more penalties and I don't think halberds are that good.

All the NAF version of Slaan need is a thrower, a 1:1 conversion from old 2016 edition just doesn't work without someone with a decent passing skill. If we want to go down the Kislev Circus route of completely refluffling them, I've always been an advocate for them being the Slaanesh Chaos Team, under the name Cirque Du Slaanesh.
The Blitzers get refluffed into some sort of monstrous clown, with a 3+ PA skill and some kind of Pie-Throwing ability that's basically throw a bomb but can only down the target like with Wrestle.
Annoying, but it's an action, it doesn't explode, and it still only works on a 4+ even if it hits. Can't be caught, can be dodged though.

Come up with circus names for the Line-O's and Catchers, refuluff the Krox as a Fiend of Slaanesh or something, and you're good to go.

I have used Ironbreakers who I found were incredibly durable, but Slayers get a terrible rep, so curious if they are actually engaged, do they chop / hold good? Or are they just flat out bad?

Why does AoS look so cartoony?
>>
>>96629638
They work pretty well at killing stuff.

>>96629645
please compare any non-cathayan old world model to any recent AoS model and tell me which one looks cartoony

I meant the art, you big dingus, hence why I posted some WFB art

Depends on the artists I guess.

why are you animals even discussing something that isn't warhammer fantasy in the thread about warhammer fantasy

depends on the artists, depends on the tone thats trying to be conveyed. Also there's digital art playing an influence to it sometimes.
Personally I prefer 5th edition (cartoony) art more than post 6th edition art, but thats just me.

If you can actually get them to engage someone in melee, if they don't simply get shot off the board which is really trivial to do for nearly every faction that has some kind of shooting, they *will* die although they will also most likely take down an equal amount of models with them. The problem is then what. What did they actually achieve? They most likely hurt a unit but didn't plink it off the board, so now you're one unit short while the other player has a mangled unit that is still able to do something important like capture and hold a strategic location.

There's nothing wrong with being cartoony. As always it's all up to the artist to make a style work.

>WARHAMMER: Age of Sigmar, our youngest setting at just 10 years old, depicts a ‘post apocalyptic’ FANTASY setting where the forces
of death and destruction have triumphed. It details the fight back.
In all seriousness there's bound to be some overlap in discussion, especially when possible proxies are brought up.

As a beastmen player, they look very underpowered for their cost. They definitely fuck hard, but they'll get fucked just as hard back. They also appear to be worthless against armor. They're designed to fight monsters, which they should be good at, but they also rely on the monsters coming to them.
>>
>>96629788
>>96629902
Well that is kind of sad. They look really flavourful but no point throwing money at a near worthless unit. Which is a shame as I love the slayer aesthetic.

A single, naked dragon slayer with no runes has been a mainstay for all my games over 2k points I at least 3 editions (6th, 7th and 8th, which I'm still playing).

Give him a name and just run him in all your big lists. Use him recklessly. It will often do nothing but when it does something, you'll remember it for the rest of your life.

Mine has solo'ed steam tanks, taken down units of blood knights, killed chaos lords on juggernaut, slain vampires, destroyed manticores, held a unit of zombies for 6 turns, took out plenty of monsters and a greater deamon of nurgle.

Granted he most often dies and does next to nothing but he's always made my games more interesting for both me and my opponent.

Amazing project! Can't wait to see it completed.

Where are all your cannons from? Would love to add them to my ever increasing dwarf artillery division.

They'll release a slayer army with the next arcane journal, it might be good then
>>
>>96630443
From what I have read, last time they had a list slayers were mostly used as a screen for Doomseekers, and the entire list was focused on Doomseekers fucking shit up + goblin hewer + heroes
>>
>>96630394
That characters are good. Especially with the new tattoos.

The units of slayers themselves suck for their cost.
>>
>>96630210
You can try taking a small unit of them and using them as an expendable shock unit that only comes in *after* everyone else has locked down the enemy in combat, i.e make them stand behind someone else to make shooting them difficult / impossible.

I won't promise it'll make them super awesome, but at least it'll be enough of an excuse to put them on the table as that should be your main goal. I field shit units all the time (I play Skaven). The alternative is I could not play at all which to me is worse.

What things in Warhammer Fantasy would be straight up tough enough to withstand bullets like this?

Dragons I guess. Ogres seem like the bullet would pierce the skin, but not really do much damage through their fat and muscle.
>>
>>96631381
anything T4 and up if they're cool enough
>>
>>96629638
>>96630210
It's easy to understand the value of a unit when you compare them to something basic in the same army.

Take slayers and warriors, slayers are essentially warriors that cost 3 more points, lose their 5+ armour, and close order in exchange for always wounding on at least a 4+, unbreakable, psych immune, and get a free hit in if they die in melee.

To me that's not worth it, maybe +1 point at most if not just a side-grade.

>>96628175
They look like they're about as big as the LoA ones and their poses aren't too crazy.
>>
>>96631446
This.

How come Warhammer doesn't use casualty figures like historical games do? I think it's very cool looking and thematic, to leave a few dead guys behind when one of your units is destroyed or routed and litter the battlefield with the dead
>>
>>96631724
Dunno. They used to make some.
>>
>>96631724
You can do that if you want. There are casualty models for quite a few different factions to be found from third party makers, especially if you have a 3D printer handy.
>>
>>96631724
Brother, Warhammer players care so little about having a thematic game that they can't even be assed to paint their own army, let alone an entire second set of models just to represent casualties
>>
>>96631757
Do you happen to know of any for Skaven? I've looked around for those before, but never found much beyond a neat crashed doom-flayer.
